Chapter Three: Two Sided
"What did you wanna talk to me about?" Ryan asked.
Leo and Harris glanced at one another.
"Well, I know you only got to see your birth father once." The technopathic creator started.
Ryan nodded. Leo got up.
"So...what if you could see your mom too?" He questioned.
Ryan slowly smiled at him. Did he just say that?
"My mom? Really?" He wondered in astonishment.
Leo nodded.
"How?" Ryan inquired.
Harris stood beside Leo.
"We were able to talk your dad again." He said.
Ryan looked at him and then dropped his smile.
"Wait, why didn't you tell me that you were with him? How did you do it?" He asked.
"I found him in the woods the night after he was saved. He told me everything about your mom. She's in hiding, but she's doing it differently. She might be in Bay City." Leo explained.
Ryan's eyes lit up with joy.
"Seriously? How is she still alive with Seth being here?" He questioned.
"Like your dad, she went under an alias. I don't the name exactly, but Seth won't be able to find her. " Leo answered.
Spyder walked up next to Ryan.
"But what about dad? How come it's more dangerous for him?" The pilot had wondered.
Leo sighed.
"Seth figures if he can get to Randall, he'll get to your mom faster. So, him hiding in depth is the safest." He clarified.
Ryan nodded. Mark crossed his arms and leaned against the wall.
"My mom is in the city? This is amazing!" The young teen stated excitedly.
Leo smiled. Harris and Spyder were happy for their friend.
"So, what does she do? Cause if she's with the school board, we need to talk about the school lunch. Mainly because it doesn't taste like food." Spyder commented.
Harris, though knowing it had nothing to do with the situation, agreed. Ryan looked at Mark, who was silent the entire time they were talking. He walked up to him.
"Looks like we're both having our own mom." Ryan told him.
Mark looked at him uneasy. He saw the excitement and joy spread across his brother's face. But even that didn't change his expression. His reaction confused the technopath.
"What?" Ryan wondered.
Mark forced a smile, in which the fifteen year old could quickly tell it was fake.
"Nothing." The jock reassured.
Ryan crossed his arms with an eyebrow raised. Mark put his hands in his pockets. They stared at each other for a few seconds before Ryan let it go.
"I just hope we can destroy Seth before he tries to reach them." Harris said.
Ryan nodded.
"Me too. And Grey." Spyder added.
"Once their gone, my parents can finally come out of hiding. We can officially meet up. And with both of their jobs doing so well, we could even live together." Ryan spoke hopefully.
Mark looked at him again. He let his arms fall. His eyes shifted forward as he stood up straight. He swallowed silently, but the small noise from his throat gained attention from Leo. He sighed. The jock walked up to the door.
"Let me know when your ready to head home." Mark said.
Ryan pried away from his friends. The trio looked at him. Mark turned and left out the door. That caused confusion and concern amongst everyone left. Well, not Leo. What was the problem? Was Mark not happy for his brother? Why did he just randomly leave?
"What? Does he hate that his name wasn't brought up? Cause it used to be like that." Spyder threw in.
The others shot him a look.
"That's so weird. Mark's never acted like that. What's going on with him?" Harris asked.
Ryan shrugged.
"I don't know. But we need to figure out where Grey went." He mentioned.
Leo snapped his fingers, signalling the others he had an idea.
"Since Grey fell in the ooze, we can track it." The older genius informed.
"We can? How?" Ryan inquired.
The kids followed him outside the robot. Harris and Ryan were Leo at the desk. Spyder took a glance at everything around him. He didn't see the oldest out of the four, so he might be somewhere in the machine. He quickly went over to join with the others.
"With this!" Leo answered Ryan's previous question.
He pulled out a blueprint of a new device. From the flat paper model of it, the tech looked pretty cool. Harris held onto the side of it to keep it from rolling back up. Ryan held the other side as well.
"Yeah. With this new toy, we can track Grey down and know her every move." Leo stated.
"Great! So when will it be done?" Harris asked.
Leo scratched the back of his neck.
"Well, I can't build it...yet." He replied.
"Why?" Ryan questioned.
"I need a sample of the zapped ooze. She is infected with it. Once I have it, I can make it." Leo explained.
Ryan nodded.
"Wait, now we have to find the ooze again? How can we sneak back into Harper's? They had guards last time." Spyder brought up.
"We're all going to have to go. Mark and Leo will be the muscle and the three of us can get the ooze and leave." Harris replied.
Spyder nodded.
"Okay, I'll let Mark know." Ryan said.
He turned and went back into the robot. Once he was gone, Spyder walked up to the desk. He saw all kinds of tools and chemicals. Curious, he poked at some of the stuff. Like the electric screwdriver. He picked it up, causing Leo and Harris to look. They ran up to him immediately.
"No! You stay away from everything." Leo ordered.
He and Harris separated the weapons specialist from the item. He whined as he walked away from the desk.
************
Ryan walked in every room of the robot. He couldn't find his brother anywhere. Then again, this was a pretty big machine. Some places were not even found yet. Like the one he came across. Ryan opened the door and headed in. Inside, he saw all kinds of cameras. This was a surveillance room. This would come in handy for spying.
That's when he saw someone sitting in a chair. He was in front of the monitors. Ryan walked up and tapped his shoulder. The person spun around in the chair and looked at him. Ryan had his hands in his pockets.
"Um, we all decided to go back to Harper's. Leo's gonna make a new machine to track Grey." He informed.
Mark nodded.
"Okay." He replied.
Ryan tilted his head to the side.
"What's with you?" He asked.
Mark got up and was about to leave, if Ryan didn't grab his arm. He pushed him back and used his powers to close the door. Mark sighed.
"Dingus let me out." He stated.
"Tell me what's up and I'll let you go." Ryan responded.
Mark shook his head.
"No, it's not working like that. Let me out, now." He demanded.
Ryan felt this sudden anger fester inside of him. He didn't know where it was coming from, but he had no control over it. He stepped closer to his brother.
"Your right. It's not working like that. You don't tell me what to do." Ryan replied.
Mark crossed his arms.
"Fine. But I'm still not telling you." He stated.
"Yes you are. Tell me now." Ryan urged.
Mark raised an eyebrow. He could hear the anger in his brother's tone.
"No. I said I'm fine. Leave it alone, dingus." Mark ordered.
"I'm not a dingus." Ryan sneered.
A spark went off in the room. Mark jumped back as it almost got him. He looked at Ryan, who's eyes were dark blue. He looked at the ceiling and watched as a huge explosion went off. Mark looked up and back at Ryan.
"Woah! Calm down Ry. I'm not doing anything to you." The jock reassured.
"Yeah right. You not being happy for me, not cool." Ryan spoke.
Another spark went off as the pilot walked closer to Mark. He was backing away from the technopath. Was he scared? To be honest, he just wanted to know what the heck was going on.
"What's your deal?" Mark asked.
"My deal? Really? Says the person who left the room and like a coward won't tell me why he did." Ryan responded harshly.
Mark looked at him up and down.
"What did you call me?" He asked.
"You know what I said." Ryan answered.
His powers caused Mark to almost get hit electrically with a keyboard. He ducked his head as looked back quickly. He faced Ryan again. His eyes stayed blue as this whole thing became serious.
"Alright, you need to chill out. Okay? I'm not Leo. I won't answer your questions half the time." Mark told him.
He walked to the door. He tried to leave, but it was still locked. The jock sighed. He never opened it back up. He turned around to see his brother standing right behind. It made him jump, mainly because he was by the monitors only seconds ago. Mark was up against the door as Ryan stood in front of him.
"Alright idiot, drop it. Now. What's wrong?" Mark asked.
Ryan raised an eyebrow.
"What's it to you?" He questioned in return.
"What?" Mark responded.
Ryan shrugged.
"I'm just supposed to tell you, but when I ask it's a whole different story?" He wondered.
Mark only blinked.
"Uh uh. No. Doesn't work like that Marcus." Ryan snapped.
Mark looked at him incredulously. Did he just use his full name? He hated that. He preferred Mark over Marcus. Why? I don't know, he just did. Ryan and his friends knew that. And for him to just randomly use it caused a realization for Mark. Something was really wrong.
"Ry, just take it easy. It's just a question. If I-"
"Just a question? Then why can't you look me in the eye and answer me?!" Ryan barked.
His eyes glowed brighter and sparked the color white every now and then. Mark took notice to that. This freaked him out. Not out of fear, but concern. What made the technopath so angry?
"How can I answer a question if the person asking me the question won't answer mine? Should I not be worried about you? Huh?! That'll make my life easier!" Ryan snapped.
Mark's eyes were widened the entire time.
"Oh well. If you won't answer me, guess I'll have to make you." Ryan threatened.
Mark shook his head.
"Make me? Really? Your gonna make me? How?" He scoffed.
That was something he shouldn't of said. Ryan let his powers do the talking as they flared up. A computer was lifted and thrown towards the jock. Mark dodged it, with a mouse coming next. He went to his right, feeling proud. The tackling part was unexpected however. Ryan was on top of Mark as the muscle of the group was shocked. Where did that come from?
"Answer the question and it'll all be over." Ryan demanded.
Mark returns with a shady stare.
"Lay off crazy. We've got Grey and Harper as it is. You really wanna drop to their level?" He questioned.
Drop to their level? Be like them? Like him? That statement went through Ryan's mind and turned his senses back on. He felt his eyes return to normal as he faced Mark. He saw how he was on the ground. The jock waited as his little brother got off of him. Mark stood up and crossed his arms.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
Ryan nodded. That's when Mark punched him in the arm. Ryan grabbed that arm and looked at him.
"Why'd you do that?" He quizzed.
Mark looked at him in disbelief. Is he serious?
"You just tried to kill me." He replied.
Ryan looked at him confused.
"Really?" He wondered.
"Yeah. Bro, what's up with you?" Mark asked.
You could hear the concern in his voice. Ryan looked back at him. He didn't believe the words that came out of his brother's mouth. That moment was so weird. That was totally unlike him. Mark sighed as Ryan bit his lip. What was up with him?
