Four
He objected to it, but he was outnumbered on the subject. The sixteen year old rinsed and washed off any blood escaping his brother's body. All of the cuts were covered by bandages. Knowing the hospital staff and being taught on how to apply the proper care for moments like these came in handy. Once the two were finished, they exited the restroom. The pilot was on their heels, but stopped when he reached the mirrior.
Staring back at himself, he took a gander at his wrapped arm and legs. Accepting wasn't the same as accepting. Reason being is that he was aware of what he was and that he is in fact a non-human. The only thing was having to be used to this adjustment and how he has to actually deal with it. Sounds odd, but life throws curveballs that either make sense or ends up being crazy. It's facts. Peeking his head in, the daredevil himself checked on his best friend.
"Yo." Spyder said.
Ryan turned his head and looked at him. The jokester leaned against the wall.
"Look um," Spyder started, "I know it's weird. I mean I never thought mutants could be real. But uh, would it make you feel better if I said I think it's really cool?"
The male technopath silently chuckled a little.
"Yes, mainly because if it didn't come from you, I'd be surprised." Ryan replied.
Spyder nodded.
"Fair point," he agreed. His best friend walked out of the bathroom and closed the door, "least you're not sick anymore."
Ryan raised an eyebrow at him.
"Why do you say that?" He asked.
"I mean, you're not puking anymore and I'm pretty sure you're not tired." Spyder noted.
"I am a little," Ry corrected him a bit, "but yeah I guess it's not that bad."
The two began to head back downstairs. They saw the sixteen year old putting his jacket back on. He turned back at the sound of footsteps.
"Let's head to Mech X4," Ryan said, "I wanna talk to Leo anyway."
Mark gave him an unsure look.
"I feel better Mark," the pilot quickly reassure him before he spoke, "might as well take advantage of it."
Sighing, the jock allowed him to go. The three of them headed out the door and into the car. Sitting in the front seat, the adopted child buckled up. After they were all ready to leave, Mark started up his car and drove off.

"Dad I'm back!" Kenzie yelled once she and her friend walked through the front door.
The two headed for the kitchen. Taking a glimpse at the place, it was beautiful yet simple. The floors were wooden while the light tan walls complimented them nicely. The black haired boy noticed the backyard, which was big and had a patio for picnic tables. It was a cozy house overall.
"Ya want anything?" Kenzie questioned as she was opening the fridge.
Harris looked over at her and shook his head.
"No I'm good," he replied. He sat down in one of the chairs, "nice place. Would it be wrong if I said I'm that your dad being a doctor means you should have a bigger house?"
"Funny, my dad gets told that a lot," Mack answered as she pulled out a plum and closed the fridge, "yeah we have good money, but we like more classic things rather than big, fancy buildings. That's what Hollywood is for."
Harris nodded in agreement.
"Where is your dad?" He wondered.
"Somewhere. Most of the time I have to try to keep him from working so he doesn't break anything else." Mack responded.
"How's he feeling by the way?" Harris inquired in concern.
"Better, but his leg still needs time. So does his neck and arm. It's healed pretty well overtime." Kenzie told him.
"But can't you heal him? I mean, you healed yourself in twenty minutes." Harris mentioned.
"Yeah but I want my dad to have a break. He doesn't know about that ability," Mack spoke, "if he did, he would want me to heal him. He works so hard and I don't want him to wear himself out."
Harris smiled.
"That's nice of you Kenz," he retorted, "I don't blame you for that. I mean, everyone needs a break from time to time."
"Mackenzie!"
The two turned to see Liam up and walking around. Well, crutching around.
"Dad!" Kenzie reacted in slight annoyance, "you're supposed to be resting."
"Mack it's ok," Liam reassured her, "I gotta be able to do things for myself too. Trust me, you've been a big help."
"Hi Mr. Ross." Harris greeted.
"Hey Harris." Liam replied.
He sat down in one of the other chairs while Kenzie helped him despite his pleads of not needing it.
"So what brings you by?" Liam quizzed to Harris.
The child shifted his chair to face Kenzie's father.
"I had a question for you." Harris riposted.
He then turned his head towards Mack.
"Is it ok if we-"
"Sure, yeah just let me know when you're done." Mack allowed.
She left the area and went up to her room. Once she was out of sight, the nerdy kid was prepared to ask his question.
"What's up kiddo?" Liam wondered.
"Well," Harris began, "you said that you and Randall are brothers. But we found out that Randall was the one who protected Ry as a kid from Seth and gave him to Leo."
Liam bit his lip.
"Doesn't that mean that Ryan and Mackenzie aren't cousins?"
The doctor sighed.
"Oh man. I knew I would have to bring this up," Liam slowly replied. Harris raised an eyebrow, "truth is, I knew what happened that night. Randall saved Ryan from Seth and gave him to Leo. But..."
"But what?" Harris asked.
"But...Mackenzie isn't my blood daughter."
Harris's eyes went wide.
"Woooaaahhh-"
"Harris you can't tell her okay?" Liam begged him, "it would hurt her so much."
"Wait then, how did that go down? How did you-"
"Seth was on a rampage. He was trying to find any kid that inherited technopathic abilities," Liam explained to him, "Randall has a best friend who's wife was pregnant. She was going into labor that night..."
*(Flashback)*
"Aahhh!" A woman screamed.
"Jeannette it's okay! We'll be there soon!" A man reassured her in attempts to calm her down.
"Will, I have to go. Seth is on our tale," Randall informed him. He turned back and heard voices. Pulling out a piece of paper, he gave it to his pal, "call this number. He's like family to me. I told him all about you guys. Trust me, it's your only option."
"Let's check over there!" One of Harper's goons yelled.
Randall picked up the kid.
"I have to find Leo," he said. Looking at the baby, he only made noises and sucked his thumb. He had no clue on what was happening, "be safe and call when you can."
Will nodded as his buddy bolted out of their secret space. He purposefully drew attention to himself so the couple could have time. Dailing the number quickly, the man waited for the person to pick up.
"Hello?" The voice greeted.
"Randall said your like family to him. I'm Will. We need your help." Will quickly responded.
"What's up?" The guy asked.
"My wife, the baby is trying to come now and we're on the run. Do you know who Seth Harper is?"
The doctor sighed.
"Yes unfortunately," he replied, "okay first off, close every door there is and draw no attention to yourself. Make sure she lays somewhere comfortable. Until I get there, you're gonna have to deliver this baby."
"What?!" Will questioned incredulously, "I can't do that! I never delivered a baby. Only time I ever saw that was when I was in eighth grade health class. I still can't get that image out of my mind."
"I'm getting in my helicopter now," the guy told him, "you're gonna have to learn today. It's risky to wait. You really want this to end with you possibly not having a baby?"
Will sighed and looked at his wife, who was holding back moans of pain.
"Guide me through it." He said.
*(Pause mid-flashback)*
"I'll save you those details." Liam stated.
"Thanks." Harris appreciated it.
*(Back to Flashback)*
"She's adorable." Jeanette cooed.
Will nodded as he wiped his forehead. He was a little horrified at the entire process.
"Yeah...cute kid." he agreed as he tried to calm himself down.
The sound of a helicopter caught their attention. Getting up, Will ran outside and shut the door to make sure no one would look inside. He saw the medical expert arrive. He had a bag in his hand, along with a few more people tagging along.
"Thank god," Will thanked, "Seth and his workers left a while ago, but they'll be back soon."
"How's the baby?" Liam asked.
"She's good." Will told him.
Liam smiled as he followed the man inside of the temporary safe space. The two saw Jeanette holding the child, who was still a bit of a mess all things considered. Liam chuckled a little.
"Let's clean her up." He said.
*(Pause)*
"So Randall and his friend were both protecting babies from Seth?" Harris put together.
Liam nodded.
"Scary thing," he replied, "Will and I made sure the girls were all good before we talked. And boy was that a hard conversation."
*(Back to Flashback)*
"We can't raise this baby Liam," Will told him. He looked back at his wife, "we love her, but she won't be safe if Seth is around."
Liam nodded.
"I know," he said, "it's not easy but, it's better than having her in Harper's hands."
"Yeah," Will agreed. He pressed his lip together for a second before popping the question, "hey, could you do me a favor?"
"Sure, anything." Liam responded.
"Randall says he trusts you and you clearly know what you're doing..." Will began.
"Yeeeaahh?" Liam inquired suspiciously.
Will shrugged.
"Would you be willing to take her in?" He inquired.
Liam was surprised, but didn't hate the idea.
"Will I move a lot and-"
"Even better," Will cut him off, "the farther she is the better. Please Liam, Randall has his own stuff to deal with. I don't know who else to go to."
Sighing, the doctor took another look at the bundle of joy. She was smiling and laughing. Though she was in her mother's arms, she was staring at the two men the entire time. Mainly the white coat wearing medical expert. Her smile made him grin.
"Alright," he allowed it, "she can come with me. I'll make sure to take great care of her."
Will smiled.
*(End Of Flashback)*
"15 years later and it's like we just went through it yesterday." Liam commented on the matter.
Harris was in shock, which has been happening a lot recently. The news was just...crazy. Then again, we were talking about the man who literally can be the definiton of crazy. He looked back at the doctor.
"Wow," was a word that could perfectly describe this moment, "so...so she was adopted like Ryan was?"
Liam nodded.
"Yeah," he confirmed, "but to answer your other question, yes, Mack and Ryan are definitely family."
"But something doesn't make sense," Harris brought up a point, "wouldn't that mean Will and Seth are brothers?"
"Yes," Liam assured him, "if you haven't noticed, it's Harper we're talking about. The guy can lie."
"Clearly." Harris responded, not even surprised.
"But Will is a good guy," Laim continued, "he had no intentions of hurting people. He volunteered himself and his wife for the process. When it didn't work, they stayed around anyways to help Leo. Once Seth went all crazy, they had no choice but to leave."
The male brains of the team contemplated this. He has wished he could go back and time to see how all of this played out. It was complicated and weird. Much like how understanding dimensions was. Before the defensive operator could ask for more, footsteps were heard as they came down the stairs. The young blonde headed back over to the boys and smiled.
"Okay, we should head back," she decided, "I wanna see Ryan and the other guys."
Harris gave her a smile, though really trying his hardest not to blurt out the information right then and there. He stood up and followed her out. Liam watched them go. Noticing the looks on their faces, Mack became curious.
"Are you guys okay?" She asked.
Harris looked at her.
"Yeah, yeah we're good." He retorted.
Giving the medical expert one last look, he flashed the guardian a convincing grin and headed out the door. Tilting her head slightly, Kenzie stared at her father for a little bit before catching up with her friend. Liam sighed with worry.
