Chapter 7

Time had passed a little faster as it was now 10:15am. Arriving at the machine that practically saved the world twice, the mechanic entered through the ferry doors. He saw that the others were indulging in their goodies. Leo was walking up into the robot while Harris looked over the mixture that was created to fix Ryan's blood. Spyder was sitting up top on the table as Mackenzie-

"Hey, you want a donut?"

Appeared right in front of him. The sixteen year old happliy took the sugary treat.

"Thanks." Mark replied, "so where's the antidote?"

"Right here," Harris gestured him to come over. Mark plopped the dessert in his mouth, "Leo's going to get the other chemical. Once he does that, he'll add it to this and it'll be able to control the unstable technopathic mutation."

"And he'll stay human." Spyder got to the point.

Harris took a donut from the bag and ate it.

"How's Ryan anyway?" Mack asked the older brother.

"Sick," Mark simply riposted, already finished his treat, "he's sleeping on the couch at home."

"Aww, stomach virus?" Mack assumed.

"Something like that yeah," Mark answered back as he went for another donut, "he threw up again and nearly passed trying to run to the robot."

"Seriously?" Harris inquired after finishing his small, sugary dessert, "you let him do that?"

"He said he was fine so I had to test it." Mark replied while biting into the donut.

"And?" Spyder questioned.

"Didn't make it passed the house," Mark let out small laugh making sure not to choke, "he only made it down the stairs."

"Ha," Spyder reacted as he smiled, "well how far did he think he was-"

"Guys!"

The others looked to their right to see that Veracity was standing in the foot of the robot.

"You need to see this." She urgently encouraged.

The gang immediately followed her inside. Using the elevator, they made it to the control center where most of the action took place. The female brains of the group led them to the lab. Leo was already there, looming over the beaker. He turned back when he saw the others. They all shared a glance.

"What's wrong?" Harris queried, seeing the looks Veracity and Leo had on their faces.

The two of them shared a worried yet slight astonishment look. Instead of going up together, Spyder made the first move and took a peek at what they were fussing over. And what he saw made his eyes go wide. He faced the others in shock.

"What?" Mark demanded to know.

He, along with the rest of the team, checked on the beaker. They all were taken aback. The blood had gone through another change. However this time, it wasn't swirling. It had stopped at a specific stage. The final stage. It became clear that time had not been on their side. Reeling from the discovery, the young blonde walked up to the older male scientist.

"You can still reverse it right?" She inquired.

Leo gave her a stare and shook his head.

"No," he retorted as he took a closer look. He swallowed a little, "it's been in him for months. Years for that matter. His blood, bones, and system has grown accustomed to it now. There's nothing I can do."

Mark picked up the beaker and examined it for himself. It all remained the same. He shook it around to see if anything would happen. Nothing did, which made a feeling in him tick. He almost smashed the beaker all together in anger.

"So what? You just make this power and give it to a bunch of people and it made them sick! And for my brother finding out fourteen years later that he's adopted and can't do normal things because of his powers!" Mark ranted. Leo stood in silence, as did the others, "what the hell were you thinking?! Huh?! Why in the world would you let a kid risk his neck everyday just to save people who give us crap?! He's always been in the shadows because of me and now he's literally going to put himself in the shadows because he's never going to be the same!!"

"You don't know how he's gonna feel-"

"And niether do you!" Mark snapped at Harris before facing the older scientist, "but anyone would feel like a freak if they found this out! And thanks to YOU, he's going to stay like this forever!! Not for now, FOREVER!! And there's nothing we can do about it!!"

Leaving it at that, the mechanic stormed out of the room fuming. It was that moment that he began to realize what it might like to be his little brother. Growing up in his teen years only to have bombshell after bombshell being exposed to him at certain times. The great Mark Walker didn't have those problems. Besides the adoption, which is the family situation, the sixteen year old had nothing to worry about. He's part of the team and had to deal with Mech X related duties, that's a given. It's the more personal and mental advocates that he never stressed over. And now...now he was beginning to understand the postition his family member was in.
The room had people in it, but no voices were heard. Everyone either glanced at each other or back at the beaker and the floor. Leo let out a sigh. He was to blame for Ryan getting his abilities. The pilot was only a baby at the time. The classic science related backstory where an "accident" takes place that gives the person extraordinary power had played out and ended up bringing everyone together as a team. The former jock had a right to be upset, seeing that was his little brother. The little brother who now, officially, would not have any human DNA left in him. It was a secret that they all knew they could not keep.
