Chapter 5
Cutting back over to the Walker household, it was currently 9:08am. The pilot finished his food and was peering his head around every corner. He was checking to see if anyone was around. It seemed to be all clear. Adjusting his jean jacket, the young man tiptoed down the stairs. He was in the home stretch from where he was standing to the door. Taking a chance, the male technopath ran for the door. Unfortunately for him, as he ran, he was quickly scooped up. Not seeing who had him in the air, he found himself moving away from the door.
"Nice try," Mark said as he put his brother on the couch. Ry watched as he sat down beside him, "you leaving the house when you're sick is not a good idea."
"I'm not sick," Ry tried to argue. Although, that small sprint to the door caused his head to spin a little. He should've listened to that alternate clone, "I feel fine. I just wanna go to Mech X to see the others."
"Dude, you threw up yesterday and today, you're sweating, you told me you've been having headaches, you don't wanna eat, you're paler than the wall, and you're tired," Mark listed. Ryan shrugged, "Call me crazy, but that sounds like you're sick."
"First off yes you are crazy," Ryan responded. Mark gave him a look, "and second, I'm not puking now so I'm good."
"So you're telling me you could run to the robot if you wanted to?" Mark queried.
Ryan nodded.
"K go." Mark challenged.
"What?" Ry asked.
"You heard me," Mark retorted, "if you can run to Mech X4 then I'll leave you alone."
Deciding to go with that bet, the fifteen year old hopped off the couch and ran out the door. His older brother, after a few minutes or so of waiting, went after him to see if he could actually make it. Upon closing the door, he found his little brother panting while he was bent over. His hands were on his knees as if he just ran 12 miles. Chuckling to himself, the former jock walked down to get his sibling.
"How'd it go?" Mark teased.
The teenage hero glared at him.
"Shut up." He snapped a bit.
"It's shut it," Mark corrected him while taking no offense to that, "now go to bed stubborn butt."
Not willing for a round two, the young man complied to his brother's wishes. With a little help, he went up the small stairway to the door. The mechanic opened it up for him. The two headed inside, with Mark shutting the door behind them. He watched his brother only make it to the couch. His body flopped down on it. How was it possible that his clone, which was basically him, told him not to do this and yet he still didn't listen? The sixteen year old let out another chuckle as he joined him.
"You still wanna go to Mech X4?" Mark teased once more.
He recieved another glare in response.
"Thought so," Mark proudly stated. He liked to be right. He looked at his brother, who was reaching for a blanket, "you're no marathon runner."
The skinny big shot gave Ryan the blanket he was aiming to grab. He covered himself up, letting his head rest on one of the couch pillows.
"I thought you were going to head to Mech X4 anyway?" Ryan brought up.
"I was," Mark replied, "but then I remembered that I was taking care of you. And you would've snuck out and tried to follow me."
The freshman sighed.
"Yeah I'm smart." Mark added in with a proud grin.
Ryan rolled his eyes as he snuggled into his blanket.

"Kenzie!"
The young blonde guardian was carrying everyone's food. She whipped her head around at the sound of her name.
"Hey Spider-Man, what's up?" Mackenzie greeted.
"Yeah, I like that nick name," Spyder approved of. Mack smiled, "and I was heading to the Mech. What's all that?"
"Food from Wawa," Kenzie told him, "everybody wanted something from there."
"And you didn't call me?" Spyder whined a little.
Kenzie giggled.
"You can eat some donuts. They pack a lot in these bags," she responded. She handed hin the treats whild she handled the drinks, "oh and Veracity and the others figured out the blood situation."
"Cool," Spyder reacted, "so what did they find out?"
"The blood's purple and has weird blobs in it," Mack explained, "V took it to Mech X to talk with Leo and Harris about it. Harris was freaking out over it a little."
Spyder nodded.
"He's not gonna die right?" He asked.
"No," Kenzie riposted, "that's the good part. And in other good news, they found a way to reverse it. So chances are, Ryan's gonna stay human."
"That's cool, but it'd be pretty awesome to have a non-human friend," Spyder slightly hoped for the opposite. Kenzie gave him a weird look, "I mean, you're a guardian and all that. Just because he's not one doesn't mean he can't be something else."
"True, but it's good that they found a cure," Mack didn't fully agree with, "he shouldn't have his powers freaking out like that."
"Or like before." Spyder muttered.
"What?" Mackenzie heard.
The jokester of the bunch stopped. He wondered if it she should know. Though he promised Ryan that he wouldn't say anything, this was his cousin. His cousin who has dealt with some things that they could relate on. Also, the young blonde has not given any reason, at least so far, on why she cannot be trusted. Knowing he might be put on the spot for it later, the daredevil still took the time to reveal what he knew to the second female on the team.
"Uh," Spyder tried to find the right words to say. Kenzie stood in her spot, waiting for an answer, "ok so...this wasn't the first time Ryan's powers went all nuts."
"Wait, this happened before?" Mackenzie asked.
Spyder pressed his lips together and nodded a little.
"Ever since the fight with Tregear in the Arctic, his powers have been wacky and he said sometimes he couldn't sleep at night or control his powers right," He admitted to her, "he only told me about it because I caught his eyes turning purple."
Mackenzie took a few moments to ponder over this. The two started to walk again so they could arrive at the robot with their treats. They weren't as far as they thought they were since the ferry soon came into view. The silence was short lived once Mack knew what she was going to say.
"Maybe that's why his blood is purple trying to transition into blue," she put together, "it's evolving."
"Ryan thought they were getting stronger." Spyder told her.
"That's what I mean." Kenzie retorted.
"Oh," Spyder realized. He helped Mack walked through the bits of trash that covered up the ferry, "well if that's it, should we really try and reverse it?"
That was a question that had both of them thinking.
