Changing the World One Murder at a Time
"C'mon! Pick up, pick up!" Veronica found herself muttering through gritted teeth, clutching the phone tighter in her hand. She tapped her foot impatiently on the ground. JD is one to call her every day to see how she's doing, you'd think he'd pick up faster than this.
Veronica sighed in relief once the phone stopped ringing and someone picked up.
"If this is Mrs. Handerson, I am not responsible," JD sighed out in reply, his voice holding a firm sense of honesty to it. Veronica wasn't sure whether to be impressed or terrified at how good he was at lying.
"No, dumbass. It's me," She said quickly, hoping this wouldn't turn into an argument she didn't have time for. She sighed shakily, her breath heavy with fear and guilt. "Look, I need you to come over right now-"
"Veronica, it's only been two days since we last... did it. Isn't it a little too soon for another round?"
"Not that!" Veronica snapped, her tone lightening at the few endless moments of fearful silence following this. She knew at this point she had to control her emotions. Whatever shit JD was putting into her mind was starting to make her think killing was a normal thing- but it wasn't! It wasn't okay to kill people and she was under way too much pressure by this. "I... killed Heather Duke.."
"Haha! Finally!" Was of course JD's reaction to this. Veronica puffed out her cheeks in irritation at the way he chuckled relentlessly. "I had a feeling you were doubting me, but I'm glad you're starting to understand everything."
"I didn't mean to!" Veronica managed through tears of guilt and fear. She didn't want to do this. She wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing she took four innocent people's lives. Well... maybe not so innocent, but still- they were teenagers. Teenagers that had their whole lives ahead of them. She didn't want to believe what she was becoming.
"Alright. I'll be right over. I'll be at your house soon... you forge a suicide note. Got it?"
"Got it..." Veronica managed out tearfully. She shakily hung up, her hand slowly slipping away from the phone to cup over her mouth. She didn't want to be a murderer. JD was a murderer, sure, and she got involved, but they had made a promise to stop... it was scary to think that her life would forever be different because of all this.
She couldn't sulk over this now, though. There was a job to be done. She stepped over to find a pen and paper, where she forged a note as genuine as she could make it given the circumstances.
I just wanted to fit in with the popular people. Was that too much to ask? First, Heather dies, then Ram and Kurt, now my best friend tries to commit suicide because I want to be popular like everyone else? There is only one way to be truly popular now. I must follow in Heather's footsteps. This is my final goodbye to a cruel and unforgiving world.
Veronica decided it looked convincing enough.
