Chapter Four- Highway Star

~*~*~

Braedey was preparing to go for a drive in his new Ferrari. He looked through his closet for an outfit.

"Let' see here. What looks good?" He asked, as he dug through his closet. It didn't take long for him to find what he was looking for. "Perfect."

Braedey put on his black leather outfit and looked at himself in a mirror.

"What's shakin'? Oh, not much. Just goin' for a drive in my sexy new car." He said, as he grabbed the keys. Braedey took a whiff of his breath and popped a pair of mint-flavored Ice Breakers into his mouth. "Let's roll."

Braedey put on a pair of Aviator sunglasses as he walked to the garage.

Braedey opened the garage and smiled at the Ferrari.

"Heading out for a drive?" Karen said from behind him.

"Yep. Gotta make sure everything works. Plus, I wanna cruise for the hell of it." Braedey answered.

"Well, go crazy. Just stay outta trouble." Karen said.

"Will do." Braedey replied as he climbed into the driver's seat and fired up the engine.

Suddenly, Roxanne came outside and stood in the driveway.

"You, outta the car, now. You aren't going anywhere, and we are gonna have a long talk about authority." She ordered.

Braedey flipped her off and scowled.

"Shut your fucking mouth, bastich. Now get outta my way. Because if ya don't; I'm gonna take you down Know Your Role Avenue, that's right at the corner of Jabroni Drive, and check you straight into the Smackdown Hotel!" Braedey replied.

Roxanne grew angry when Braedey talked back to her.

"How dare you?! If you won't get outta the car, I'll drag you out myself!" Roxanne said angrily.

She stormed towards the Ferrari. But before she could reach for the driver's side door handle, Braedey floored the accelerator and the tires screeched. Roxanne coughed as Braedey raced out of the driveway and left a cloud of smoke in his wake.

'Wow. He really does love race cars. I think that Ferrari suits him well.' Karen thought.

Roxanne coughed as she waved her arms, trying to clear away the smoke. By the time that the smoke cleared off, Roxanne saw that Braedey was already gone. She was furious, and she's had enough of Braedey refusing to obey her.

"That's it! I have had enough of that disrespectful bastard!" She yelled, as she stormed into the house and confronted James. "That boy just disrespected me and left in that stupid blue car!"

"My son knows what he's doing. And what he said to you yesterday was true. You should've let me handle fixing her car instead of making a slave of him and hiding the parts to keep him at home." James replied.

"Are you..." Roxanne began.

"Choosing my son over you? Yes! My wife is gonna be home soon. And I don't need you anymore!" James answered.

"Are you leaving me?!" Roxanne asked angrily.

"Yes! I'm also kicking you out of my house! So pack up your shit, get into your ugly-ass Lincoln Navigator and get the fuck out of my life!" James answered.

Braedey raced down the road, enjoying the rush of driving at 70 mph. As he came closer to town, he slowed down and played Highway Star by Deep Purple on the radio that he installed. People noticed him and many of them took pictures of his car with their cellphones. Braedey came to a red light and smiled.

"Hey handsome. Nice car." A girl said, as she approached the driver's side window.

Braedey looked outside and his smile faded when he saw that it was Billie Eilish.

"Well, look who it is." Braedey replied sarcastically, as he changed the music to Billie Jean by Michael Jackson.

She was more like a beauty queen from a movie scene
I said don't mind, but what do you mean, I am the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round?
She said I am the one, who will dance on the floor in the round

"Come on. A man as handsome as yourself would be lucky to have me as a girlfriend." Billie said.

She told me her name was Billie Jean, as she caused a scene
Then every head turned with eyes that dreamed of being the one
Who will dance on the floor in the round

People always told me be careful of what you do
And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
And mother always told me be careful of who you love
And be careful of what you do 'cause the lie becomes the truth

"Nice try, Billie Jean. But you're not my lover. In fact, you're better off with that girly-boy, Justin Bieber." Braedey replied.

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son

For forty days and forty nights
The law was on her side
But who can stand when she's in demand
Her schemes and plans
'Cause we danced on the floor in the round
So take my strong advice, just remember to always think twice
(Do think twice, do think twice)

Billie's smile suddenly faded. If there was one thing that she hated to be called, it was Billie Jean.

She told my baby we'd danced 'til three, then she looked at me
Then showed a photo my baby cried his eyes were like mine (oh, no)
'Cause we danced on the floor in the round, baby

People always told me be careful of what you do
And don't go around breaking young girls' hearts
She came and stood right by me
Just the smell of sweet perfume
This happened much too soon
She called me to her room

"Let me explain something to you. I do not take kindly to anyone calling me Billie Jean." Billie said angrily.

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son

"Do I look like I care? Like I said, you are not my lover. Which is why I refer to you as Billie Jean." Braedey replied.

Billie Jean is not my lover
She's just a girl who claims that I am the one
But the kid is not my son
She says I am the one, but the kid is not my son

She says I am the one
You know what you did, (she says he is my son) breaking my heart babe
She says I am the one

The light turned green and Braedey drove off, leaving a very angry Billie Eilish in the dust.

Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover (don't Billie Jean)
Billie Jean is not my lover
Billie Jean is not my lover

Billie Eilish just scowled as she watched Braedey drive away.

'You can run, but you can't hide. I will find you, Braedey Martin. And you will be mine.' She thought.

Meanwhile, Braedey pulled up to a StarBucks coffee shop and parked in a parking space. He shut off the engine and got out of the car.

"I'm just grabbing a coffee. I'll be back." He said smoothly.

As Braedey strutted into the coffee shop, the speaker system began playing Bad To The Bone by George Thorogood and The Destroyers. A few minutes later after paying, Braedey came out with a hot cup of coffee. As he headed for his car, he noticed his friend Tyler. Tyler was a Caucasian American with green eyes and black hair. He was wearing a blue denim button-up shirt, blue jeans, cowboy boots and a bullhide hat.

"Yo, Tyler. It's good to see ya." Braedey said.

Tyler came over and smiled.

"Likewise, old friend." He said.

Tyler noticed the Ferrari and felt his heart skip a beat.

"Yo, that is a sweet ride. Where did you get that?" He asked.

"Dad and I bought it from The Rock in Miami." Braedey answered.

"You mean, you went to Miami, and bought a Ferrari from The Great One? Dude, that's awesome." Tyler said.

"Yeah. So how are you?" Braedey asked.

"Pretty good. Just out looking for a date." Tyler answered.

"Really? Who do ya have your eye on?" Braedey asked.

"Rebecca Tannen. She may not be the nicest girl, but I would love to date her." Tyler answered.

"Yeah. If you're into psychopaths." Braedey replied.

"Whatever floats the love boat works for me." Tyler said.

"Whatever. Ya still got that Rally Fighter, so you're likely to get a date with her." Braedey replied.

"Oh, you mean that Local Motors Rally Fighter that I have at home? Yes. I still have it." Tyler said.

"Very well. I'm headed for Lookout Point. It was nice to see ya." Braedey replied.

"See ya around." Tyler said.

Braedey climbed back into his Ferrari, fired up the engine and drove to the Lookout Point overlooking the city.

At the lookout point, Braedey sat next to his Ferrari and had his arm resting over the front-left fender as if he was holding a girl. He stood up and walked towards one of the machines with binoculars, when he felt something bump him from behind. Braedey turns around and sees his car parked three feet in front of him.

"Huh? What's going on here?" He asked.

"There's no need to be afraid." A woman's voice said.

"Who said that?" Braedey asked. He was not scared, but he was rather confused.

"It's me, Veronica." The voice said through the radio.

"Veronica..." Braedey said in realization. "Are you... Alive?" He asked in confusion, as he went to the driver's side door.

"I am much more than an automobile. It's a long and dark story. Let's go somewhere more secluded." Veronica answered, as Braedey climbed into the car and drove to an area deep in the forest. Braedey got out of the car and sat in front of the front bumper.

"So, how did you become... Who you are now?" He asked.

"I was once an average person, around your age. My mother was a nice lady. But she left me with my abusive father when I was a teen. He abused me in every way that you can imagine. But that all ended for me when he killed me. All I remember was standing up to my father, and then he stabbed me four times in the chest. One stab wound pierced my heart. My injuries also caused me to bleed profusely into my lungs. So I ended up dying by literally drowning in my own blood." Veronica explained.

Braedey felt tears welling up in his eyes when he heard this story. He couldn't believe that Veronica had gone through such pain.

"I'm sorry that you had to go through that." He said sadly.

"It's okay. I found myself in the body of this 250 GTO and I eventually learned that I can drive myself without anyone behind the wheel. Sometime later, I found my father and found out that he buried my body in a field close to the Ferrari manufacturing plant." Veronica continued.

"What did you do?" Braedey asked.

"I killed him in revenge. I knew it was wrong, but I was so mad at him, that all I wanted was to see my own father die. Luckily, I was able to restrain myself from killing more people. I had many owners until I finally came to rest in The Rock's garage." Veronica answered.

Braedey stood up and hugged the hood of his car, and Veronica warmed up her engine in return.

"I'm sorry that you had to go through so much trouble. But it's okay. I know what we can do. If we can find your original body, we can bring you back to life and you can live again." Braedey said.

"Yes. I would love that very much. Don't worry, the car will still exist. My injuries will fade as well, and there won't be any scars. But for now, can you please keep me a secret?" Veronica asked.

"Of course. We'll keep this between us for now." Braedey answered, as he climbed into the driver's seat and began driving home.

Veronica played The Look by Roxette on the radio. Braedey smirked at her choice of music.

One, two, three, four

Walking like a man
Hitting like a hammer
She's a juvenile scam
Never was a quitter
Tasty like a raindrop
She's got the look

Heavenly bound
Cause heaven's got a number
When she's spinning me around
Kissing is a color
Her loving is a wild dog
She's got the look

She's got the look (She's got the look) She's got the look (She's got the look)
What in the world can make a brown-eyed girl turn blue
When everything I'll ever do I'll do for you
And I go la la la la la she's got the look

Fire in the ice
Naked to the t-bone
Is a lover's disguise
Banging on the head drum
Shaking like a mad bull
She's got the look

Swaying to the band
Moving like a hammer
She's a miracle man
Loving is the ocean
Kissing is the wet sand
She's got the look

She's got the look (She's got the look) She's got the look (She's got the look)
What in the world can make a brown-eyed girl turn blue
When everything I'll ever do I'll do for you
And I go la la la la la she's got the look

Walking like a man
Hitting like a hammer
She's a juvenile scam
Never was a quitter
Tasty like a raindrop
She's got the look

She goes (na na na na na na)
She's got the look

She's got the look (She's got the look) She's got the look (She's got the look)
What in the world can make a brown-eyed girl turn blue
When everything I'll ever do I'll do for you
And I go la la la la la she's got the look

What in the world can make you so blue
When everything I'll ever do I'll do for you
And I go la la la la la (na na na na na na)
She's got the look
She goes (na na na na na na)
She's got the look, she's got the look
She goes (na na na na na na)
She's got the look, she's got the look
She goes (na na na na na na)

Braedey and Veronica returned home by nightfall and Braedey parked his car in the garage. He smiled at her.

"You get yourself some rest. We've got a lot of planning ahead of us." Braedey said.

"I look forward to returning to my body. Don't get me wrong. I look good as a Ferrari, but I would rather be human." Veronica replied.

"Don't worry. You will be. We'll bring you back. But your body is way out in Italy, so we're gonna need to think of a plan." Braedey said.

"You're right. It'll take some time, but I can wait. Good night Braedey." Veronica replied.

"Good night Veronica." Braedey said, as he closed the garage door and went inside.

Braedey snuck his way into his bedroom and managed to get there without being detected. He changes into cobalt blue pajamas and climbs into bed. Braedey thinks about Veronica for a minute, and then drifts off into a deep sleep.

~*~*~
Veronica's POV

Braedey is a very sweet gentleman. He's agreed to help me return to my old body. I am so glad that he promised to help me. I miss being human, and I want to feel his warm embrace on my skin. I want to spend the rest of my life with him. But first, I must eliminate that bastich named Roxanne. And although I may feel regret afterwards, I will kill anyone who torments Braedey. Same goes for any girl who flirts with him.
