"This is a bad idea."
Jungkook turns to me with a smile, waving for his friends to walk ahead without us before facing me again.
"What's wrong?" He asks.
"My mom's supposed to get me after school," I say, fidgeting anxiously with the strap of my backpack.
"Seokjin will make sure we make it back before school lets out," Jungkook says. "Your mom will never know, we do this all the time."
"Make up your mind or we're leaving without you," Seokjin calls from the drivers seat of his truck.
"Come on," Jungkook says, taking my hand. "I'll look out for you."
"Last call!" Jimin calls, hanging out of the window and drumming on the roof of the car.
"Jimin, you're supposed to be in the back this time." Jungkook pulls me along with him.
"You snooze you lose," Jimin says, sticking his tongue out before sliding back into the car and rolling up the window.
"Come on," Jungkook says, climbing up onto the back of the truck.
"O-Oh," I say watching him for a moment. "Jungkook, I don't think~"
"Oh, I'll help you," He says jumping down. "Just step right there and I'll lift you up."
"Okay." I step onto the bumper before Jungkook pushes me up with his hands on my waist.
"Got it?" He asks, making sure I don't fall.
"Yeah," I say as I sit down. "He's gonna drive with us back here?"
"Yeah." Jungkook stumbles down beside me. "You don't get car sick do you?"
"No," I say, feeling anxious as Seokjin starts the car.
"Here," Jungkook says, wrapping me in a blanket that sat folded in the corner. "The drive is short, and we'll make Jimin sit back here on the way back."
I nod, offering him a small smile as Seokjin pulls out of the lot. Jimin lowers the back window so that he can yell at Jungkook from inside the car.
"You still owe me for that time I took you home after that party," He shouts over the loud wind.
"I didn't ask you to take me home, you insisted," Jungkook shouts back.
I hug the blanket around myself tighter, wanting to keep as warm as possible as the air whipped around me. If mom could see me now her heart would stop.
Speaking of~
mom:
Temp update?
tae-bear:
all good!
I sigh as I send the message, guilt instantly consuming me. My mom goes out of her way so often to make sure I'm taken care of, and here I am putting myself in harms way.
"We're here," Jungkook announces as Seokjin brings the car to a stop.
"What's this?" I ask—moving to get out of the truck.
"This is our spot." Jungkook climbs out first before holding his arms out to me.
"The train tracks?" I ask, placing my hands on his shoulders and letting him support my weight as I climb out of the truck.
"Yeah," He says, reaching into the truck and grabbing the blanket I was using before. "Keep the blanket. I know you never get cold but I don't want you to get sick again."
I smile softly as I take the blanket, keeping it wrapped around me.
"Hey, you guys go without us," Jungkook says to his friends. "I'm gonna show Taehyung the bridge."
"Don't get lost, school's out in a couple hours," Seokjin says, walking hand in hand with Namjoon in the opposite direction.
"Are they together?" I ask nodding at them.
"Sometimes," Jungkook laughs as he leads the way.
"So, what was it you wanted to show me?" I ask following him.
"There's this bridge that goes over the lake," Jungkook says pointing in the direction of a small overpass.
"Does the train not come by anymore?" I ask as we go uphill.
"It does sometimes, I hope you're a fast runner," He says looking at me as he laughs. "I'm kidding," He says when he see that I'm not laughing. "The train stopped coming years ago I think. It's pretty much abandoned around here."
"Oh," I say forcing a short laugh as we make it to the top of the bridge.
"Jimin first brought me down here when we were freshmen," Jungkook says leaning against the railing, looking down at the water. "This is where we first met Namjoon and Seokjin."
"Ah." I nod, leaning beside him. "Were you skipping school then too?"
"Maybe," He laughs. "I hope you don't think too lowly of me now."
"I could never," I chuckle. "I just didn't think you were the type."
"I don't know," He shrugs. "I like school most of the time, but sometimes it's just too much. Y'know?"
"Yeah, I know," I say, looking down at the water. "It gets tough sometimes."
Jungkook nods, falling silent as we look down from the small overpass.
"Seokjin told me that you liked me," I say, I wasn't going to bring it up but it has been on my mind since I left the cafeteria.
"He did?" He asks, looking at me with wide eyes.
"Yeah," I say, smiling at him. "He said you'd never tell me yourself."
"Oh," He says looking away, I can't tell if his face is flushed from the cold or because I called him out.
"You don't have to confirm or deny whether it's true or not," I say. "I just wanted to tell you that he mentioned it."
"Okay," He says, looking up at the sky. "I think it's gonna snow one of these days."
I try not to let my smile falter too much as I look forward. "Yeah..."
We stand there for a while in silence, Jungkook staring off deep in thought. The more time passes in silence the more awkward I feel. Why isn't he saying anything?
"Guys!" Jimin yells getting our attention. "Seokjin's math teacher is calling around looking for him, we gotta go!"
"Shit, really?" Jungkook calls, already headed back in that direction.
I follow behind him, feeling a bit awkward. Even though I said he didn't have to confirm or deny his feelings, I guess I was still hoping he would.
"Jimin, in the back," Jungkook says, pulling him away from the backseat.
"Screw you, we all can fit," Jimin says crawling into the backseat anyway.
"Fine, but Taehyung you're in the middle," Jungkook says gesturing for me to go first.
I climb into the truck, thankful that I don't have to ride in the back this time. Jungkook gets in after me, it's a bit of a tight squeeze but it's better than riding in the trunk.
When we get back to the school Seokjin and Jimin go off to make it to their last class, Namjoon deciding that he was just going to go home rather than finish out the day.
"Wanna hang out in the library?" Jungkook asks. "Hardly anyone goes there anymore."
"Uhm," I start, shrugging my backpack on. "I'm gonna go to my last class."
"Oh, okay." He nods. "Well, I'll see you 'round then."
"Yeah, see you 'round," I say, forcing a small smile before turning and walking in the direction of my last class.
The last thing I wanted to do was sit through a lecture, but I really didn't want to be alone with Jungkook right now.
