Chapter Two

As Drizzle turned his back, Emerald made a face at Scorpion. Scorpion's tail swished, deadly and evil.

Ugh! How dare she?

Drizzle had gone to talk with a Sandwing couple that had just flown in, looking for a satchel, leaving Emerald and Scorpion to sit and glare at each other with disgust.

Drizzle quickly came back, blue tail swishing, looking nervous.

"Please get along. Em- my friend Scorpion. Scorpion- this is Em. We've been friends forever and she's my fiancee."

Scorpion stumbled back feeling as if Drizzle stabbed her. Blood rushed to her head, and everything went black.

"Get a wet cloth!" Scorpion heard Drizzle cry. She seemed to immediately react to hearing Drizzle's voice and it jerked her back to life.
Scorpion blinked her eyes blearily. She focused on Drizzle standing above her, and a throng of Seawings surrounding her.

Drizzle saw her green eyes open and sighed loudly with relief. "OH you're okay!"

Scorpion smiled, so happy that Drizzle cared so much about her.
But what about 'Em'?

She looked towards Cod, a Seawing in charge of keeping Drizzle's money.
"What happened?"

Cod looked towards Drizzle, who nodded. Emerald stepped into the crowd, smirking at Scorpion, and draped her wings on Drizzle's.

Scorpion wrinkled her nose.
"Ahem. Um, Miss- Lady- Scorpion. You passed out suddenly, I believe from shock? And Drizzle carried you here and started giving us instructions."
"Oh, I did?" muttered Scorpion.

"ha, what kind of assasin faints?" scoffed Princess Emerald. Scorpion didn't have the strength to do anything to glare at Emerald.
But then she saw the Seawings nodding in agreement with the Seawing Princess.

Her heart sunk. Everyone loved Emerald. Drizzle was gazing at Emerald lovingly.

"I-I should go.." Scorpion rose unsteadily and headed for the entrance. Drizzle blocked her path.
"Wait no!"
"Drizzle!" Cried Scorpion. "Oh Drizzle, do not stop me. Just leave me be."
"Um, it's not that, there's a sandstorm outside." returned Drizzle.
"O-oh." muttered Scorpion, for the second time, heat rose her face and her wings flared. Out of the corner of her eyes she saw Emerald give Cod a knowing look, and Scorpion restrained herself from trying to stab the fish-face.

"Stay awhile!" said Drizzle cheerily. "We have food."

"What time is it?" wondered Scorpion aloud.
"Mid-afternoon." responded a deep voice. She turned to see Cod.

"Ok."

I should be heading back to Cobra... it's late. She'll want a report... and I did no missions today. I need to get her some dried mango to soften her up on me...

"I'll go." stated Scorpion, face blank.

"Huh?!"

"I'm strong. I'm not weak. I'll be fine in a storm." Scorpion's eyes stormed at Emerald, who had slipped a dagger into a pouch by her left foot.
Did anyone else see that? Did Drizzle? I should stay and protect him- no.

Drizzle held out a claw. "Wait!-"

Scorpion turned and flew out the tent, shielding her eyes from sand. Tears streamed into the storm below.

Drizzle will never know how much I-

Scorpion woke up in a familiar home. "I'm back!"

An old, yet fierce looking dragon stomped into the room. "You sure are, snail."

Only then did Scorpion realize there was a cold cloth on her head and she was in bed.
"Found you lying across the road like a dead possum. Passing out while flying- you idiot! You aren't like yourself today!" snarked Cobra, daughter of Vulture, and a feared assasin in her day.

Much like Scorpion. Scorpion sat up.

No. I'm not like myself today.

"Ugh, well did you at least bring me a mango?" questioned Cobra.

"Well-"

Cobra smacked Scorpion in the head. "GET IN YOUR HEAD!" and stormed off.

At least- that was how Scorpion imagined it would go. She blinked open her eyes, and realized she was still flying, beating her wings hard against the sandstorm.
"AHH!" she cried running into a cactus, not realizing how close she was to the ground."

Scorpion flumped off the cactus covered in prickles. "Ouch...."

She realized that she was home. A mango sat on the in the road. Scorpion snatched it up wondering just how lucky it could get.

She ran into the home, calling for her foster mother.
"Cobra! I'm back! AND I BROUGHT YOU A MANGO YOU SACK OF BONES,"

"Cobra?"
Scorpion went to the next room, looking for the old, sandy dragon and gasped. She covered her mouth with her claws, in shock.

Scorpion was an assasin. She killed tons of dragons. Young, Old, Dragons she knew, and Dragons she didn't. She knew death. She knew the kill. But the corpse on the floor wasn't her work. Too messy.

Cobra's guts had been gruesomely spilled out and made a message.

Do Not Lie

Scorpion wouldn't cry, she never would since her mother was taken. But now another mother was gone too, and Scorpion fell to the floor. She sat numbly by Cobra's side, knowing that the old assasin would not wake up again.

Finally, after a few hours of vigil, Scorpion crossed over to the Sandwing, her foster mother and closed her eyes.

"You've taught me well. But it's time to end this. I'll never hurt another dragon again. I don't want to murder someone's mother, now that I know what this feels like. I swear by you, Cobra, I won't lay a hand on my dagger again."

In anger, Scorpion wiped her eyes, and flung her rusty black dagger across the room. I banged into the wall and fell, spinning to the floor.

Scorpion buried Cobra outside with all the weapons.
She made a fist to the swirling, dissolving sandstorm. "I'm not lying. The last dragon I will ever kill is- the one that killed you."
