31 - Slowing Pulses

SONG REC: "CHRONOSAURUS" - STRAY KIDS

The members were, for the first time ever, caught unprepared.

After leaving Lee Know, Yun grabbed a knife from the nearest room and crept around the base on her own. The sound of death consumed her. Gunshots went off. People screamed. She could only hope that they weren't her own members'.

She turned the corner to the kitchen. She found Felix fighting somebody. He grunted as he fought off the much bigger man in front of him. She furrowed her eyebrows and took a step forward–

A hand wrapped around her mouth. Other hands grabbed her waist, arms, and legs. She thrashed. Her body pumped adrenaline. Her breaths were erratic as she fought for her life.

"LET ME GO," she tried screaming. Her voice did not work. She took a deep breath through her nose. She let it out. In. Out. She couldn't turn around, making her feel even more blinded. With a tug, she twisted her body to face them.

She had slipped her knife into her shoes, and the three men restraining her did not notice. She needed a plan.

Plan, plan, plan.

They dragged her body to a different room. Her heart was leaping out of her chest. They forced her down onto a desk and ripped her eyepatch off. She let out a muffled scream and tried to get away. It was impossible; the men had too strong of a grip.

One man laughed. "So, rumor said that you're the half-blind woman that the leader took in. I didn't believe it. But just to make sure..."

One of the masked men grabbed a knife and sliced her blind eye. Slowly and painfully. Her brain was overloading. She was reliving the first time she lost her eye. The pain exploded.

With her good eye, she realized that the man to her right had a gun in his pocket. He was clearly distracted.

It seemed impossible that she could feel grateful at that moment, but she wanted to cry with happiness, knowing that her good eye would be safe.

She grimaced as the man cut deeper. I will kill you, she swore. After a second of thinking, she quickly reached forward and grabbed his gun.

And shot all three of them before they could blink.

Thud. Their bodies dropped to the floor.

She panted, staring at their bodies and holding back the urge to vomit. She grabbed what was left of her eyepatch and stuffed it in her pocket. She swallowed hard. There was no time to stop. There was no time to think about the pain raging in her body.

From the kitchen, she could hear Felix's voice. She ran, seeing him pushed into a wall with his hands and legs tied. The man behind him lifted a knife, preparing to stab her sunshine.

She threw her knife, but her aim was off. She tried to shoot the gun. It was out of ammo. Her pulse was skyrocketing as she got closer. The man hadn't even noticed her attempts at murdering him.

She tackled him, knocking the man onto the ground.

She punched him. Once. Twice, before he was able to grab her and twisted out of her grasp. He slammed her into the ground on her stomach. Pinned her arms down.

"You little bitch," he whispered, before digging his knife into her back.

Felix's muffled screams kept her fighting. She thrashed, trying to flip herself over. In her peripheral vision, she could see Felix untying the knots.

The man noticed and kept his entire body weight on her. He stabbed her twice before collapsing beside her. Her body was on fire. Everything hurt and ached and was killing her.

The world faded in and out as Felix took the chance to kill the man.

I'm dying.

The house was silent. All the attackers were gone.

Felix screamed for help. His voice was hoarse yet shrill. "Somebody! Somebody come help, Yun is DYING."

Hyunjin came running first, but now she couldn't hear much anymore. Her pulse thumped in her ears. She wished so badly that she could just die and get the pain over with.

Felix picked her up, with tears running down his face. "I'm sorry," he repeated over and over again. "Yun, I'm so sorry."

She mustered a smile. "Don't. I knew what I was doing when–" she took a harsh breath as pain racked her body, "...when I was recruited," she forced out.

He was running down to the basement. "I'm gonna bring you to Lee Know, okay? The medics will get to you asap," he promised.

Lee Know, she thought. "Tell him..." she began weakly. She wasn't sure if her pathetic whispers could be heard but Felix was nodding encouragingly. "...it's okay."

I had always been afraid of dying, she thought. But it's not that bad.

She smiled just in case she never would ever again. Felix pressed a kiss to her nose and ran.

The world faded to black as her heart slowed.
