FOUR;
After the last customer left, Rhett stood against the wall behind him. In the midst of his thoughts, his phone rang.
Not paying attention to the caller ID, he answered.
"Hey, uhm tell me why I just got a call from Erica telling me to feel better," Hawke's voice came on the other end of the phone.
Rhett chuckled, "Yeah I had to take off of work today."
"Why though? You alright?" Hawke ask, worry clear in his voice.
"Yeah, I'm good. I'm at the gas station down a few miles from work. I let that guy from the store the other day use the truck and home to check on the other one."
"Is Dawn alright?"
"I don't know, I heard something about him being cut up but that was it... the other one went to go check on him," Rhett says.
"Damn, I hope he is ok... should I go check on them? I know where they live..." Hawke said slowly, expecting Rhett to say no.
"Yeah, just be careful. The keys are on the hook," Rhett said as another costumer walked in.
"Hey I gotta go, but let me know if everything is alright."
Dawn had to watch Eden leave, sadly. His smile left his face once Eden closed the front door.
Upon Eden walking out, he bumped into Hawke. He backed up and said "Sorry, I heard what happened and I came to check up on you guys." He fixed the black mask on his face.
Eden looked back at the door, "you're not busy, right?" He asked
He shook his head, "Nope."
He grabbed his keys, "can you look over Dawn? Someone tried to steal him, using a knife, accidentally cut him and ran away after that." He handed Hawke the key to the door. "He doesn't like being alone."
He nodded, "I don't mind at all, just tell Rhett I'm here with him." He looked back as Eden got back in the truck and he waved and headed into the house, locking it behind him. He walked into the house, "Hey... Dawn?" he called out.
He heard little footsteps run downstairs, his eyes twinkling with happiness, "Hawkie!" He shouted happily, running into the male's chest, hugging him.
Hawke wanted to smile so badly, his heart smiled instead. He hugged the little elf back, "I heard what happened, I'm so happy you're okay."
He pulled back to look at the little male, his eyes fell to the bandage on the boy's palm. He frowned through the surgical mask. Changing the subject so he wouldn't upset Dawn, "So what were you up to before I walked in?"
"M' watch - watching t.v. in my ro - room. Y - You can join!" He said happily, using his good hand to drag Hawke up into his room.
He let Dawn pull him into the room. He looked around, "Nice room." The little elf pulled him onto the bed, causing him to fall backward proceeded to sit down beside him.
"T - Thank you!" Dawn said, smiling widely, "what you wa - wanna wa - watch?" Dawn asked, looking up at Hawke.
Hawke shrugged, "Whatever you want, I'll watch anything."
Dawn nodded, grabbing his remote, turning it on, the screen flashed before showing up a scene of two males making out. "O - Oh, I was wat - watching a dr - drama." Dawn blushed.
Hawke held back a chuckle, biting down on his tongue. He laid back on the bed pulling a pillow under his head. "Fill me in on what happened up until this part," he says.
"O - Oh, um, the on - one, he - he hates himself, he doesn't like ho - how he looks. B - But the other gu - guy taught h - him how to love." He said, his cheeks painted a light pink.
"Ah, I see," Hawke says laying his head back down, he pulled the little male closer to him.
Dawn instantly snuggled into Hawke, rubbing his cheek happily against the male's chest in content. Dawn definitely got attached easily and was already so comfortable around Hawke.
"I wa - watched this be - before, it make me fe - feel less alone. I don't like th - that I can't talk no - normal." Dawn admitted, "but th - that doesn't mean I - I don't deserve l - love. 'Cause wh - what I might not like some - someone could love." Dawn spoke.
He rubbed Dawn's back to console him, "Exactly." "Besides, I like the way you talk. I adore a good conversation," he says placing his other arm behind his head.
Dawn nodded into his chest, "I - I like you." Dawn spoke, "but y - you hide things. I can tell."
He nodded, "I like you too, and you got me there."
"Like th - that mask." Dawn said, looking at it, "it hides s- s - some - something, b - but I hide m - my ears too. Eden said - said it's to pro - protect me."
Hawke met the elf's eyes. "I guess we have something else in common, but I hide my face to protect everyone else." He knew Rhett would be upset for him telling Dawn this, but he wanted the little elf and Eden to trust him.
"I hide my mouth, because I'm a gorgon..." he sighed, sitting up. "Like my mother, Medusa. Her looks turned people to stone, my smile does too." He looked at Dawn, "I wear this mask so I'm not tempted by emotions," he says scratching his head.
Dawn's eyes widen, but not out of fear, it was out of curiosity. "Y - You're rare, like E - Eden. I hide my ears to pro - protect myself and Eden said th - they are s - s - sensitive to touch." Dawn said, "if - if you could smil - smile I bet it wo - would be just as pr - pretty as you!"
In order to keep himself from either crying or smiling the largest he's ever smiled, he took a deep breath in. "So, I would like to tell you that I do not mean to talk so dull. Also if you must know, every time I see you I want to smile. I hope that's enough reassurance," he says lightly nudging the male playfully.
Dawn smiled widely, "I'll s - s - smile for us both!" He said proudly.
Hawke shook his head, trying extremely hard not to smile at that response. "I think you're my favorite person on the planet right now." He leaned in closer to Dawn, he whispered, "Don't tell Rhett that."
Dawn did the gesture of locking his lips, "s - s - secrets s - safe with me!"
"Did you eat today?" Hawke asked trying to change the subject, again trying not to smile at how precious Dawn is.
"Mhm! I had gummy bears!" Dawn said, a small dimple appearing on his left cheek, from his wide smile.
He shook his head, "Nutritious..." he said getting up. "Hmm..." he says thinking. He knew that going out somewhere with the smaller male would cause attention, so the other options were food delivery or making the male something to eat here. He turned back around and looked at Dawn, "Is that your favorite food? Or what?"
"N - No, silly! I like sour worms! T - That's my favo - favorite food! But I - I like cheesy stuff too!" Dawn said sitting up on the bed, his legs crossed over each other as he watched Hawke with his big pale eyes.
He stared at Dawn and nodded. "That's doable... cheese pizza, grilled cheese, macaroni and cheese perhaps?"
"Pi - Pizza?" Dawn asked, tilting his head sideways.
"Score," Hawke said throwing his fist in the air. He paused, "Wait... or are you meaning you haven't had that before?"
Dawn giggled, "of c - course I've had it! I was as - asking if that's al - also what you want."
"Yes," he says, not letting himself give it away that he was lactose intolerant. "I wonder if you guys have the ingredients for that here..." he says walking out the room. He stopped midway down the hall and realized he left Dawn in there. He immediately walked back into the room and scooped the male up, causing Dawn to giggle.
"I can w - walk!" Dawn said, "m' not baby! Just cause m' little!"
His mind screamed he wanted to smile or laugh so badly. He jogged down the stairs and set the male down onto the hard wood floor. "I just wanted an excuse to hold ya," he winked.
Dawn's face turned light pink, "O - oh, um okay." He said, his hands covering his now hot cheeks.
"So..." he says walking into the kitchen, he looked in the fridge. Used to mainly making every meal he ate in a day, cooking wasn't something new to him. The foster home him and Rhett lived in when they were younger were strictly organic based when it came to food. Rhett being a carnivore, hunting and all made them eat a more natural diet. He also figured making a pizza with Dawn would be fun.
He grabbed the ingredients and did a little happy dance when he saw some store bought dough in the fridge. He set everything down on the counter and looked at Dawn across the way, "Wanna help?"
Dawn bit his lip, before nodding, "Yeah!"
Hawke walked over and preheated the oven, he unwrapped the packaged dough and put it on a plate and discarded it into the microwave. Letting it warm up a bit, he took it out and placed it on the counter. He looked in the kitchen for a rolling pin, when he didn't find one he decided on using a glass. He poured flour on the large wooden cutting board and laid the dough on top. He handed Dawn the glass, "So just roll this over the dough to stretch it out and then we will play a 'lil frisbee with it."
Dawn giggles, "Wanna watch you! Y - Your mus - muscles fle - flex and that's cool!" Dawn said, watching Hawke's arms with big eyes.
He shook his head, fighting a smile yet again. "Making me do all the work, how rude," he says playfully. Once the dough was stretched out enough he placed flour on his hands, rubbing them together. "And then we take this big boy, and we throw it up in the air like we don't have common sense," he says tossing it upwards.
Dawn watched for a moment, before quickly leaving the room. His face felt hot and so did his body in an area he wasn't use to. Watching Hawke's muscles, made his whole body feel different. It was like when Eden touched his ears, but Eden couldn't help him like he did the last time.
