so it's pretty obvious that these characters don't have very modern names. this is because i based each character off of a prominent figure in roman history. octavian was a seemingly innocent child who was the adopted son of julius caesar, who was responsible for thousands of deaths during the republic. he even used proscriptions - if you were proscribed, you would be killed and it wouldn't be viewed as murder, and any wealth you had would go to the state. octavian eventually became the first emperor of rome under the name augustus. messalina was the third wife of claudius and was famed for being quite the seductress - apparently she had a bet with prostitutes to see who could sleep with the most people in one night, but the source this comes from is very likely to be biased against her. she even planned to have her husband killed so she could marry somebody else. curio is a quieter character in roman history. he was the apprentice of cicero - a famed public speaker who was viewed as a man of principle - and willingly spoke out against the triumvirate - a trio of romans dominating the republic - when cicero had caved to their influence. finally, locusta was a prisoner who was recruited by the emperor nero to poison brittanicus, a possible replacement for nero if he were to die. he actually gifted her a school to teach her students how to create effective poison. 

each of these names were chosen by purpose. each oc has similar traits to these notorious players in roman history and this was honestly so fun to write. as you can probably tell, im a huge history nerd.
