Chapter 1 - An Untimely End... Or Is It?

As I stepped outside of the walls of the Rainbow Kingdom, I heard Light call behind me. "Be careful, Sabre. We don't know what's out there."

I call back. "I will, don't worry!"

I was being sent to investigate some suspicious activity near a village outside the Kingdom. No one knows what it is, but it's been causing trouble. Probably another Corrected Sun member. Ever since we took down Sol, the few members that still shared his views that were left ran from the Kingdom, and we've been finding them around the area. They've all tried to attack me, of course, but the Colorless Guard always stop them before they get too close.  As I make my way to the forest in the reports, I look behind me. I swear, I just heard something. "It's probably just some wild animal, nothing dangerous," I tell myself, and keep walking. A while later, I reach a clearing right next to a rocky cliff. "This seems like the place, it matches the description in the report..."

I start looking around for the cause of the disturbance. A few footprints here and some left behind materials there, but nothing that gives away where this person might be. They've definitely been here, though. I sigh, and turn to look beyond the cliff, the forest behind me. Looking out to the sky like this reminds me of my times in the Hub with Rainbow Steve. I would look out like this on the balcony, while Rainbow played with Gerald or painted pictures, occasionally being called down to join in on the fun. Now all that's below me is jagged, dangerous rock and quite the life-threatening fall. I was never really given time to mourn his death, becoming corrupted soon after his funeral and all, so moments like these... they sting a little. I notice the sky and clouds darkening above me, as little drops come into contact with my face. I was hoping it wouldn't rain while I was over here, it always makes the journey back a lot harder, and it's usually too dangerous to be out in the rain anyway. I need to start heading back before the ground gets too mushy to see the trail-

I suddenly hear fast footsteps behind me. Quickly turning to see, I'm met with the sight of a Corrected Sun member rushing towards me, sword drawn. Before I can react, the member lunges toward me, plunging his sword into my body. I drop my sword in shock, or out of sudden, stinging pain. Probably both. I can't move. I feel the sword go entirely through me, and I start to fall, however the blade keeps me standing. I slowly look up to see my attacker, as tears start to form in my eyes.

All I see is a cold, blank expression at first, then he looks behind me, a smile forming across his face. The Corrected Sun member grabs my shoulder, and he begins to walk towards the cliff, almost dragging me next to him. I wanted to scream, shout for help, but I couldn't. All that came out were drops of blood. As my vision blurs, we reach the cliffside. He lifts me upward, pulling his sword from my flesh. I can't even feel it anymore. As I'm dangling over the cliff, I take one last look at the Corrected Sun member. Blood covers his hands, and he is grinning  manically at his actions. I manage for one word to form as he's about to drop me, extending my arm. "Why..."

All I get in response is a chuckle, and one word from him; "Revenge."

With that, I feel his hand shove me into the abyss below me, everything above shrinking from my vision as I fall. A few rocks hit me on my way down, but I can't feel it, my body going numb from the blood loss. As the ground approaches, I think of one last thing before I hit it.

"I'm sorry Rainbow, but I'm not gonna be able to see you again in death, either."

Then, my body collides with the floor, and everything turns black.

"Sabre... Sabre, wake up..."

I hear an echoey voice coming from somewhere, as I lay on the ground. Something is off... I was just thrown off a cliff after being stabbed, how am I not dead right now? Wait, am I dead? No, I can't be. This must be some sort of error. I was supposed to go somewhere worse than the World Beyond once I died again, so why am I not there? I try to ignore the voice...

"Sabre! Come on, buddy! I know you're there somewhere! Answer me!"

Wait, that sounds like... no way.

"Come on... I know this worked..."

It can't be him... can it? My eyes slowly opened as I braced myself for what I might see. All around me was a grey void. Standing over me, I saw someone I thought I'd never see again. He still looked shattered, but the Darkness was completely gone. He noticed my eyes open. Excitedly, he shouts.

"Sabre! Oh, I knew that would work! Hey buddy!"

"RAINBOW?!" I scream, shooting upright. He quickly wraps me in a hug, sobbing and apologizing profusely.

"I'm so sorry... I'm so sorry! I left you alone, just like that, without even thinking of what might happen to you..."

I can't believe it's actually him. Once I snap out of my shock, I return the hug, fighting back tears.

"It's okay, it's okay. It was my fault, not yours-"

"No, it wasn't your fault! It was my own, and only my own. Seeing you blame yourself for my death... you have no idea. The whole thing I did was really, really stupid of me. It was my fault, not yours, Sabre."

Okay, now it was time to cry. For a while, we just sat there and hugged. It was surreal, seeing Rainbow again. Then, I wiped my face and asked what had been tugging at my mind for this moment. "How are you even here?! How am I here?! We're both supposed to be dead!"

"I, uh, may have done something..." Rainbow says. "I couldn't let you die like that, especially after all everyone else put you through. You deserve to live. So, I broke out of the Spirit World, stole the Rainbow Crystal, and used it to save you. It should take more of an effect soon."

I'm frozen by the words that I just heard. I ask, confused, "You... what?"

"Okay, okay, I know that sounds bad," Rainbow says, "But think about it; they were just keeping it in a vault. And that is NOT what I want my last remnant to be, just stuck in a stupid box for the rest of time. I wanted it to be used for something good while I was gone." Rainbow smiles. "Besides, that thing was once part of me, I'm pretty sure it makes sense for me to be the one to dictate what it's used for."

"Yeah, makes sense." I say. "But, now what? We're stuck in an abyss."

"That's what I meant by it taking more of an effect soon." Rainbow answers. He waves his hand to a space below us and says, "Look at this."

I look through the new little portal... thing, and see my body at the base of the cliff. It's... disorienting, to say the least. "Holy cheese, that's my body." I say in shock.

"Yeah...but the good thing is, you'll be able to use it again once the Crystal fixes it in a few hours. I planned it so it'll reconstruct your body almost to the way it was before you got yeeted off the edge!" Rainbow excitedly blurts. He immediately has a look of regret. "Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry-"

He's cut off by my laughter. "Nah, it's okay dude, that was hilarious." I respond. Rainbow giggles.

"Hey, uh, Sabre?"

"Yeah, chief?"

"You don't mind sharing once you get your body back, do you? Cuz I don't really have one to go back to..."

"Only if you don't snore like back at the Hub."

"Wh- hey! Screw you too then!" Rainbow laughs, then punches me in the arm.

"Yo, chill!" I laugh, and the grey abyss is filled with our laughter.

[Light's POV]

The Guards have been searching for him for days. After that storm, Sabre never came back from the mission. At first, during the first few hours he was gone, nobody panicked much. "Maybe he just got lost in the storm, he'll be fine." We all told ourselves. He got lost all the time before, he would find his way back if he was. The Leaders and I started worrying the next day, and search parties were sent to find him. One by one, they all came back empty-handed. No sign of him. As more search parties were sent out, we started fearing for the worst. The Leaders started to remember what has happened to him, and regretting what they have done. I've been keeping strong around everyone, but I'm fearing for Sabre's life as well. I've been searching with the Guards, and on the most recent occasion we found a bloody sword near a river after catching a Corrected Sun member there, who was also covered in blood. There's a meeting about it today, as it's causing a lot of panic. Walking into the Citadel, I take my place, and the meeting begins.

"Have you found out anything from the member you caught?" The Yellow Leader asks. I was hoping that wouldn't be the first question, but I answer.

"Not really. He has said something worrying, though. When asked if he knows what happened to Sabre, he said 'You'll know soon enough', and stopped responding to us."

A feeling of dread envelops the room. Has the Corrected Sun done anything to Sabre, or was the member tricking us to cause fear? The Orange Leader breaks the silence.

"So, what is that supposed to mean? Have the Corrected Sun that are left captured Sabre or something, then?" He says.

"...We don't know," I answer. "We've tried getting him to answer us again, but nothing's working."

"Maybe he's just bluffing?" the Violet Leader asks. "I mean, the main tactic they used was fear, so maybe he just doesn't know where Sabre is either?"

"It would make sense, but the fact that he was covered in blood-"

A Colorless Guard suddenly bursts into the room. Everyone turns to look at him.

"Sir, your Leaderships, sorry to interrupt, but one of the search parties found something." He exclaims.

"What is it?! What did they find?!" The Blue Leader says.

"It's Sabre," the Colorless Guard answers, sorrow in his voice. "He's been killed."
