Chapter 13

Lmao whoops

~~

I followed the sound of screeching, opening a door to one of the lounges. Ryan and Brendon were arguing when I peeked inside.

"What are these fucking scratches on your back?!" Ryan yelled. "You fucked someone!"

I left quickly, heading down to find Tyler. He was sitting at a table, a cup of coffee in front of him.

"Hey," he muttered. "What's up? Why do you look so panicked?"

"Uh, it's nothing," I lied. "What's new with you?"

"Well, I think Josh and Debby are really dating now," he said.

"Do you want me to just kiss him or something and see if he's actually gay or not?" I asked.

Tyler bit his lip and looked at me.

"You're not serious," I muttered.

He shrugged and I sighed as I stood up. Josh was over by the coffee machine when I walked up.

"Hey, are you gay?" I asked.

"No," he denied. "I'm pan though."

"So you're dating Debby then?" I asked.

He shook his head and I walked back over to Tyler.

"He's single and pan," I stated before walking out.

It seemed like there was absolutely nothing to do. There were no classes today and I had no missions coming up to prepare for. There was just a whole lot of nothing. As I walked passed the lounge, I could still hear Brendon and Ryan arguing. Suddenly, the door burst open and Ryan glowered at me.

"You bitch!" He shouted, shoving me.

"Hey," Brendon said, stepping in between us.

Ryan gave a small scream of frustration before storming off.

"I'm sorry," Brendon apologized. "He can have a bit of a temper."

"A bit?" I asked.

"He isn't that bad," he said. "Although, I've never seen him so mad before. Anyways, what are you up to?"

"I'm trying to look for something to do," I said.

"Well, Patrick told me they were gonna watch some movies down in the lounge on the fourth floor," he suggested.

"Is it really such a good idea for us to really be seen together?" I asked. "It'd just be like rubbing it in Ryan's face."

"I guess you're right," he agreed. "So, I'll see you later then?"

I smiled and nodded before walking off down the hall again. Eventually, I went back up to the lobby and sat down next to Jamia.

"There is absolutely nothing to do here," I complained.

"You think I don't know?" She asked. "I sit here all day deterring people who walk in."

I chuckled softly, leaning back in my chair.

"How many have walked in today?" I asked.

"No one," she grumbled. "And that's the problem! If a lot of people came in then at least I'd be doing something other that just scrolling through facebook. I'm tired of these bullshit news articles and looking at parents just bragging about their fucking kids."

I smiled, as she handed me a chocolate bar.

"You have kids?" She asked.

"I used to," I said. "My daughter and my wife died in a car accident."

"Well, we've got that in common," she said. "We've both got dead kids."

My eyes widened as I looked at her.

"That's something I can drink to," she said.

She opened the mini fridge underneath her desk and pulled out two beers.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Frank happened," Jamia stated. "I knew I should've fled the second I found out just what kind of business he was in."

I didn't say anything more as I took a swig of the drink.

"When did it happen?" I asked.

"I don't even know anymore," she muttered. "First it was the accident then the funeral then the divorce, it's all just kind of blurred together now."

"I'm sorry," I whispered.

"On the bright side, the workers would always bring in things like plates of brownies and cookies for me," she said. "On the downside, that did horrors for my waistline, I just kind of ate my feelings. I've been working it off though."

"Good for you," I said.

Jamia smiled, handed me another bar of chocolate.

"Is that why you're giving me all this?" I asked.

She laughed and nodded. "I can't have these temptations around me."

I laughed as she handed me two more candy bars.

"Well, the guys down there are going to thank you," I said.

"Speaking of, shouldn't you be heading to lunch soon?" She asked.

"Yeah," I agreed. "What do you do for lunch? I've never seen you down there?"

"Oh, one of the workers brings my lunch up for me," she said.

I nodded, standing up.

"Well, if you ever want some company then you should come down and join us some time," I suggested.

"I think I will," Jamia agreed.

I smiled, heading towards the elevator. I got down to the lunch room, grabbing a tray. I sat down at my usual table and dropped the candy down as they all snatched for it.

"Where'd you get this from?" Tyler asked. "Frank doesn't usually have a lot of sugary junk like this."

"Got it from Jamia," I said.

We all sat, talking quietly until the door burst open. Ryan stormed in, a Colt AR-15 in his hands. My eyes widened as his eyes locked with mine and he pointed the semi automatic rifle at me.

"You slept with my fucking boyfriend!" He shouted.

"Ryan, baby," Brendon said jumping up to hurry to his side.

"You fuck off!" Ryan yelled.

He shot Brendon in the leg, making him stumble to the ground. Patrick hurried to his side, trying to stop the bleeding.

"You fucking ruined everything!" He yelled. "I trusted you! I thought you were my friend!"

He aimed the gun at me again and I completely froze. I saw two hands on either side of his head as they twisted it suddenly. There was a sickening crack as Ryan's body fell limp and I saw Frank standing there.

"R-Ryan? B-baby?" Brendon whispered, looking at his dead body.

I gulped as Frank stepped forward, picking me up by the collar of my shirt.

"You keep causing a lot of fucking trouble around here," he growled. "If head anything about you one more fucking time you'll be dead like Ross."

I nodded quickly and he let go of me. Frank walked off while Billy dragged Ryan out.

"Come on, I'll help you to the infirmary," Tyler said.

Him and Patrick helped Brendon out of the room.

"What the fuck just happened?" I asked.

"You'll get used to it," Ray said, patting my back. "You'd be surprised at how often things like this happen. Frank should really do mental health screenings before handing people guns."

"He was killed and Brendon was shot," I said. "These are my friends."

"Don't worry," he said. "Brendon wasn't hurt that badly. And yeah we'll miss Ryan but dying happens a lot around here so it just doesn't feel that sad. It'll be the hardest on Brendon."

"Does Frank kill workers a lot?" I asked.

"Yeah, if they cross him," Ray stated.

"That's kinda fucked up," I said.

"I mean, his dad used to beat people to death," Ray said. "At least frank gives people a quick death. One time his dad was even so mad and hated someone so much he burnt him to death."

My eyes widened as I gulped. "A-and Frank doesn't do that, right? Because he doesn't like me."

"No, Frank actually likes animals a lot, he's a vegetarian and everything," he said. "So he kills people humanely."

"Oh yeah, that makes me feel better," I muttered.

"Come on, just don't make him mad again," he suggested.

"I don't mean to do it," I said. "It just sort of happens. It's like all these sort of shitty things keep happening and I'm always at fault."

"What was he saying about how you slept with Brendon?" He asked. "Did you actually?"

"I...I might have," I mumbled.

"Why would you do that?" Ray asked.

"It's complicated," I said.

Yes, I promised someone I'd break the two of them up.

"Well, no offense but you kinda fucked up," he said.

"Yeah, I already knew that the second we finished," I said. "Is Brendon gonna be okay? I feel awful."

"Yeah, he'll be fine, I've seen worse," Ray said.

"They have an infirmary here?" I asked and he nodded. "Would I be able to see him at all? I want to apologize."

"Yeah, in a little bit," he said. "They've got a hell of a lot of rules down there. There's people with missing limbs so they don't wanna risk anything with germs and infections."

"Okay good," I said. "Maybe I can bring him some cookies?"

"To make up for his boyfriend shooting him and getting killed?" He asked.

"Well, I don't know what to fucking do," I muttered. "And now if I make one more mistake Frank is going to snap my neck."

"You're friends with Jamia," he said. "She might be able to protect you. Her and frank don't get along but Jamia is still able to boss him around. I don't know how she does it, one time she even got him to let us all have an entire week off."

I nodded my head pushing away my food.

"I think I lost my appetite," I said.

"You'll get used to murder," he said, taking a bite of his sandwich.

"But he was your friend too," I said.

"You learn not to get too attached to people around here," he said.

"Okay," I said. "I'm gonna go, actually. I'll talk to you later."

Ray nodded and I dumped my lunch, walking out of the cafeteria. I walked through the halls, going down to my room. I sat on my head, grabbing my notebook. I've been making a profile on Frank, and now I can add about how his children are dead to it. Soon enough he'll be dead too.
