Chapter 4- Can we trust them?
I've been waiting to write this chapter for a long time now!
Third POV
The teen stood there in shock as they tried to process what was happening.
"Wait, Ignacia?! That's, that's so far away from Jamanakai, let alone home!" Jay panicked. "No, no, no, this can't be happening!"
"Calm down kiddo. Ignacia isn't that bad." The man sighed, slightly offended. Lloyd quickly apologized for his friend's reaction, as they went on their way, heading deeper into the village. People were looking at them like they were homeless, considering their clothes had gotten so dirty from that fight.
Lanterns were placed at the entrance of each house, as it was getting pretty late. Lots of farmers were around, gathering food for their families and animals. Although they were sad about Wisp abandoning them so far away, boy, were they glad she wasn't here right now. She would surely eat every last piece of food, not to mention scaring away all the villagers.
"I.. have an idea.." Lloyd awkwardly started. "We will need to fight more dragons in the future, but since I don't have a weapon.." Jay was getting ready to snap at him, but he decided to let him finish first. "Could we maybe buy me a weapon..? I don't know how to use it but.. I can practice!" He sheepishly smiled at his friend.
But instead of him snapping, he sighed and nodded a 'yes'. Even though they were going to have to spend a big chunk of their money on that weapon, he still needed one. Yes, he wouldn't know how to use it, but to be honest, Jay didn't really know how to use the Nunchucks properly as well.
"We're going to buy the cheapest one okay? And after that, we're going to find a place to sleep. Got it?" Jay informed him, giving the blond kind of a strict look.
"Whatever you say, mom.." Lloyd joked, making him roll his eyes.
They asked a bunch of villagers if they had any spare weapons to sell, but all of them seemed to respond negatively and point to a small shop on top of a hill. They seemed pretty confused as to what that was, but after many tries, this seemed to be their only way for them to get a darn sword.
They took a path which was probably the only safe way they could reach the top of that hill. Though walking was exhausting for them, it sure was better than climbing, so they had no right to complain. As they reached the top, they finally saw the shop. There was a sign reading 'The Four Weapons', as the place was lit up by a few lanterns, just like every other building in the village.
Inside, there was a young man, about Jay's age, working on a sword. They mentally facepalmed once they realized this was actually a blacksmith shop all along.
"Hey! What can I do for you? Haven't seen you around here.. Are you new?" They jumped a bit, as the boy suddenly turned around, greeting them to his shop. They got to take a closer look at him, as they noticed his brown, spikey hair, as well as his green eyes. His clothing really wasn't that much, just a red jacket over a white t-shirt, as well as black jeans and sneakers. Though it seemed kind of weird to them that he didn't wear any 'blacksmith' outfit.
"Oh, uh, hey! Yeah, we're not from here.." Lloyd replied, making the blacksmith a bit nervous.
"We would just like a sword." Jay continued, offering money to him.
"Are you sure you don't want anything else? We've got nunchuks, daggers and even knives!" He tried to offer them, though they politely declined. He gave a plain sword to them, which to their surprise, was really well made. They didn't expect someone his age to be able to do such a detailed and sharp design on just a cheap metal sword.
"Come back again!" His cheerful voice exclaimed as they said their goodbyes.
Though his voice sounded a bit too cheerful. But they didn't bother to question it for now.
As they were walking through the town, they realized that it was night time. Well, they were over exaggerating a bit, since it was late afternoon, but watching the sky get dark was what scared them the most.
They weren't sure of what they'd be encountering. Who knows? Maybe Lloyd's father knows he's alive and sent an assassin to kill them.
"Lloyd.." Jay patted his friend's shoulder. "I just want you to know.. that I think someone is watching us right now.." He whispered over to Lloyd, making him shiver.
They looked around, but no one was there. In a matter of seconds, they realized that the sword they had just bought was gone. "W-wait! It disappeared! I was just holding it!" Lloyd started freaking out.
"Show yourself! We don't want to hurt you!" Jay took a defensive pose. He normally would try his lightning powers, but he was not going to risk killing someone, as he didn't know the strength of his power.
Suddenly, a shadowy figure jumped off a rooftop, landing on the ground. It walked further into the light to reveal that boy from before, looking dead serious. And he was holding their sword. "What are you doing here? Why are you holding our sword?" Lloyd strictly enquired.
"Listen, I'm not playing any games." The young blacksmith's friendly speech was gone. "You better not tell anyone about this, or else.." He threatened, pointing the sword at them. "I know why you're here. You want to arrest us, just like everyone else in this darn country." He growled.
"Let's just talk peacefully." Jay tried to sound friendly, though he couldn't help but feel sparks coming out of his fist. "We're not reporting you to anyone. We have a good excuse for coming here, I swear!"
"What is it then?"
They didn't answer. The blacksmith glared at them, but then tried to calm down, walking closer towards them. "I still don't trust you, but.." He hesitated to continue. "I'm Kai. Kai Smith."
"Go back to the shop. You better have a good excuse or else we're going to have a bad time.." The two teens gulped as Kai started walking away.
"Where are you going?"
"You just go there and wait for me. I have some business to finish. Don't you dare steal anything."
As the two slightly nodded and started walking away as well, they heard a faint shout coming from Kai. "Oh and be careful of-" Lloyd cut him off before he could even finish.
"Yeah, yeah, we'll not stab ourselves with these pointy weapons, we know!" They started to walk a bit faster, not being able to hear the blacksmith's last words. "Her."
As they went all the way back to the shop, they realized that the lights were still open, even though Kai was out. They could hear strange noises once again, but this time, they were louder.
"Is anybody-" Lloyd shouted but was cut off mid-sentence, avoiding an attack. Another man tried to sneak attack them, but this time, they weren't hesitating at all. He tried to hit them with a long katana, but to their advantage, the Samurai-like armor he was wearing slowed him down a lot more.
Luckily for Jay, he was able to avoid plenty of attacks, as he was really fast. Lloyd had managed to land a few hits with one of the swords he found, as he tried to protect himself with a shield.
Though that luck didn't last long as the man managed to catch Lloyd's wrist. Not being able to get out of his grip, Jay tried to free, only to get hit and thrown back, landing on the wall. At this point it all seemed lost to them once again, as they were too hurt and tired to continue battling. 'Was this a trap after all..?'
"What are you doing?! Let him go this instant!" They both sighed in relief as they heard a familiar voice call out. Kai. The man immediately let go of Lloyd, who rushed to check on his friend, helping him get up and standing next to Kai. But he still looked mad.
"What do you mean Kai?! They tried to break into our home!" The man took his helmet off to reveal a teenage girl. She had raven hair, along with chocolate brown eyes. And Kai, as they assumed was her brother. They both gasped at the sudden reveal as Lloyd tried to speak.
"Wait.. You're, you're-"
"So hot.." Jay let out a dreamy sigh, receiving a slap by the her instead.
"Call me like that again and I cut your head off." She hissed at Jay, who couldn't help but notice the slight tint of red on her cheeks. He groaned in pain, as she received a glare from Lloyd.
"Okay then, care to explain why you brought them in here Kai?" The girl questioned.
"Well, I was going to do our usual, but it looks like they're from a different place. They said they had a good excuse to come in this town, so I recommend telling us now." He glared at the two, as he opened a trapdoor in the corner of the room.
They all went downstairs as they sat down. Lloyd couldn't help but notice the water and fire banners on the wall, making him think. 'Could they be the ones?'
"So? We're listening." The girl crossed her arms, waiting for a response. They then followed on to explain everything up to this point. The Oni, the dragon, Lloyd's uncle.. And to their surprise, they seemed to believe it. After they finished, the siblings both looked at each other and then back to them.
"And if we did believe you and we came along with you.. What's in it for us?" Kai wondered.
"Well, you'll clear your name and uh.. Get some money..!" Lloyd lied. He had to convince them to come along, if they wanted to win. "Now, your turn." He pointed at them.
"Fine.. I'm Nya and this is my older brother Kai. I'm two years younger, making me 17." A slight yes came out of Jay's mouth. "Our parents are missing, so we live alone here. That's why me and my brother and I were forced to steal." She frowned a bit. "And since we don't know how to properly make swords, we just sold our parents' weapons and then stole them back. We are wanted in all of Ninjago and this is the only place where people don't know us, so you better not betray us."
They were both taken aback from the sudden and quick reveal."We're very sorry to hear that, but if you join us, I promise you that your lives will change for the better." Lloyd offered.
Nya turned to her brother. "What if they're one of them?" She whispered in her brother's ear.
"Do they look like one of them?" He whispered back, as they took a few moments before taking their final decision.
"We're in."
It's 5AM.. And also yay! I released another chapter early! Now I gotta sleep!
