Chapter 20- The End of a New Beginning

Heyyyy! Long time no see! At least, me in person, not my stories 😅. I haven't been here these past few weeks, mostly because of chores.

But just for a quick update on my life, I've been doing pretty okay! I went to an amusement park for the first time ever, did my fair share of art and wrote on my personal book project (which is coming along great!)!

Now, enough of me, onto the story!

(Sorry if the time change confuses you. I think it's pretty clear though.)

Third POV

Kai had calmed down as he sat on the cold ground. He could almost feel the dragon's silent cries next to him. He looked at it, its eyes were tired. Its two heads looked at him, as if giving him an encouraging speech.

Suddenly, its heads turned to the entrance. He knew he wasn't alone. Two familiar figures entered the inside of the Temple. He looked down, hoping it wasn't Makia.

He could hear the figures approaching. Before he knew it, a sword came towards him. He closed his eyes, hearing the sound of it hitting something.

"So, are you gonna get up or will I have to carry you?" He heard a familiar voice say. He looked up to see-

"Skylor?" He looked up at her. She smirked and gestured behind him. The chains that were tied to his hands were broken. The dragon was free as well. He smiled at her. Upon scanning the room once again, he saw another figure. Pythor.

"I guess you and Pythor managed to convince me. I'm in for your big plan, by the way." She said and winked.

"What happened to you?" Kai said, turning to Pythor. His scales seemed like they were changing colors, becoming a bleach like white. He looked a bit hurt, though still maintained a sly look.

"Nice greeting to the people who travelled all the way here to rescue you." He scoffed, crossing his arms.

"Good to see you too, buddy." Kai chuckled. "Where are the others? Nya? My parents?"

"Cole and Jay are outside fighting the Vermillion with some dude I don't know. I don't know about the others."

Kai was about to say something, when another person ran into the room.

"Are you guys with them?" He said.

"That's the dude we saw before." Skylor pointed at him, confused. "Yeah, we're the good guys." She informed him.

"Great, I'm Ronin. What's the plan?"

"You and Pythor go to the main room. Nya might be there." Skylor said, handing him her sword. Me and Kai are going to free their parents."

"Got it. Come on, snake dude. You distract them while I free the girl, got it?" Ronin turned to Pythor, leading him away.

"First of all, I'm clearly a Serpentine-"

"Same thing, let's go!" Ronin said. "By the way, your friends outside could use some help!"

"We're on it. But first," Skylor turned to Kai, gesturing to the dragon. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Kai looked at her confused, then returned the smirk. "You bet I do."

The two got closer to the dragon, which seemed to act surprisingly friendly, especially towards Kai. Unlike the others, it had already be tamed by their parents. They could use that to their advantage, as the creature seemed to get hostile whenever somebody harmed their owners.

Kai petted one of the heads, the red one specifically. "You both are quite tough, aren't you?" He said. The dragon nudged its heads against him, pushing him down.

"I think we need to go now." Skylor said.

"Oh.. Right!" Kai said, getting up. They both followed the dragon to a small room, as they were feeling more and more warmer with every step they took.

They finally arrived at the room, but what they saw made the two gasp.

The entire room was filled with lava, as the only stable place for them to be was the rocky platform they were standing on.

In the middle of the room stood a metal cage that was hanging from the ceiling. Inside there were their parents.

"Kai, Nya? What are you doing here? How did you escape?" Maya yelled from across the room. Kai looked at her confused, then realized his mother's mistake.

"Wrong person, Mrs. Smith!" Skylor shouted back. "We're coming to free you, don't worry!"

"Okay, you've got this." She put a hand on Kai's shoulder, a slight blush appearing on their faces. "You and that dragon will rescue them. I'll stay here in case you die."

"Gee, thanks for the pep talk." Kai narrowed his eyes as he got on the dragon.

"Just go!" Skylor said.

'Okay buddy. You can do this. Just make sure you don't drop me.' Kai thought as he ordered for the dragon to fly up. It didn't have much space to move around freely, so it had to stay close to the ground, i.e. the lava. Kai just hoped this would be over soon.

"Okay." He said, grabbing onto the cage's bars. "I'm here." He sighed.

"What happened to your eye?!" Ray said. "We are so sorry-"

He got interrupted as Skylor shouted. "Sorry to interrupt, but I kind of need some help here!" Some of the Vermillion had managed to get to them, as she tried to defeat them by tossing them into the lava.

"Right.. Um, could you do something about that cage?" Kai awkwardly whispered to the dragon. The dragon nodded and sharply backed away, almost throwing Kai off of it. It began to charge up and let out a small flame blast, enough to melt the bars and open a hole large enough for them to escape.

They hopped onto the dragon, taking the lead this time. They went over to Skylor, who had been cornered by the soldiers.

"Back away!" Ray and Maya said to her. She teleported back on the stairs where they came from as the dragon shot another, stronger blast at the Vermillion, hot boiling water this time. To their surprise, they all melted to death, defusing into small snakes.

They both landed the dragon on the platform before casually continuing to go up the stairs.

"But how?!" Kai said.

"A fusion between two elements is much stronger than you think." Maya winked.

"Ahem." Skylor interrupted. "I'm Skylor, nice to meet you." She shook hands with Kai's parents.

Maya smirked, then whispered in her ear. "Are you his girlfriend..?" Skylor was a bit shocked from this, yet still responded.

"Soon to be, I hope." She smiled, Maya returning it. "Now, I believe we have a timeline to save."

"Pythor?!" Nya cried. The Serpentine had come to their rescue, however, he didn't look the same.

He gathered his strength and managed to push Makia away, knocking her to the ground.

"You think you can defeat me, traitor? Defeat uss?" She hissed, getting back to her feet. Pythor's eyes widened, as he turned his gaze back to Nya.

"The blade!" Nya said, gesturing to the weapon. "Grab it! She can't do anything without it!"

Pythor moved quickly towards the blade, grabbing it just in time before Makia could reach it. "What do I do now?" He yelled.

"You're asking me?! I don't know, throw it in the lava or something!"

Makia approached him, smirking. "You know, even with the blade, you're all alone. Who do you have?"

Pythor gave a signal to Ronin, he nodded. He had to find a way to distract Makia from seeing him.

"Well, I do have a lot of allies and old friends. Except for that Vermillion traitor, that one time." He scoffed. Makia hissed, she began to get angry.

Pythor quickly corrected himself. "Whose company I really enjoyed." He nervously grinned.

Ronin went over to Nya. She didn't seem to notice him until the very last second. "What are you-"

"Your brother's plan. You're coming with us." He cut off the final rope with his dagger, carrying her piggyback style.

"Hey! I can walk, you know!" She tried punching his back.

"We don't have time, come on! Pythor!" Ronin yelled. Both Pythor and Makia turned towards their direction. Pythor pushed Makia to the side, following the two outside.

Makia was furious by this point and barely managed to get one final scratch on Pythor's hand.

"What now?" Pythor yelled.

"We get the girl outside and wait for the others."

"Hey! I have a name you know!" Nya whined, much to Ronin's ignorance. All of a sudden, he saw a few people enter the main room. But there was only one person who had such spiky hair she could recognize them from behind. Kai.

"Let. Me. Go!" She punched Ronin so hard he was forced to let her go, after shouting a ton of curse words, of course. Both Ronin and Pythor knew it was too late to go back now, so they started going for the main enterance. He also shouted for Skylor to come and fortunately, even from a huge distance, she listened just in time. With the three of them standing in the enterance, they began to watch, when suddenly, two other figures came in the room.

"Dude! Why did you abandon us?!" Cole said at Ronin.

"You know, that dude's sister might have been dead if it weren't for me." Ronin smirked, trying to brush it off.

"Oh, don't flatter yourself, pretty boy." Pythor hissed.

"Wait? Where is she right now?!" Jay said, grabbing Ronin by the shoulders.

"I gotta admit, she is a feisty one. Look for yourself." He pointed far into the distance at Nya, along with the rest of her family standing there. "She probably has a death wish."

Suddenly, the dragon that stood in the middle of the family began to charge up, but not like Skylor had seen before. She was the only one to realize that over the guys fighting, so she quickly pushed all of them towards the exit.

"We've got to get outta here!"

~•~

"Okay, are you ready, honey?" Ray said.

"I was born ready." Maya smirked.

"Mom! Dad!" Nya cried, hugging them. Kai soon joined the hug as well, all of them enjoying the moment.

Suddenly, they heard slow clapping in front of them. They turned up to see.. Makia.

"Ah, yesss. Family reunion. I've missed these. I may not have an army, but I still have thiss!" She pulled out the blue Time Blade from behind her.
"Once I put thiss insside. I'm afraid this will be your very lassst moment together."

Ray and Maya glared at her, pulling their kids behind them. "Don't you dare touch them." They growled.

"Kai, we've got to do something!" Nya whispered, gesturing to the dragon.

"Come on, melt that machine! Your owners are in danger!" The dragon didn't react at first, but once it heard the last sentence, its eyes widened.

It began to charge up once again, but this time, it flew up in the air, flapping its wings like crazy.

"Mom, dad! Careful!" Kai signaled to them to come behind the creature and so they did.

"What iss thiss? Some kind of game?" Makia smirked, cackling at the dragon.

"The only game you're going to play today is the game of death." Maya smirked back, only to see her husband glaring at her. "What? Libby had an impact on me." She raised her shoulders, giving him a sheepish smile.

Makia charged at them, only to be met with the dragon's fire blast. It pushed her back, slowly melting her skin and armor. Even the time blades started to melt, but it didn't matter. Even one imperfection would flaw her plans.

The dragon stopped and eventually calmed down, returning peacefully to its place amongst its owners.

They looked around, only seeing broken pieces of metal. No Makia. No Time Blades. No nothing.

"Did we.. Do it?" Kai said.

"I-I think so.." Nya said, her lips begging to curve into a smile. "We did it!" She exclaimed, hugging her parents. "I can't believe you're back! Everything was so awful and-"

"I think we have a lot of explaining to do. But let's go outside for now. Your friends are waiting." Ray smiled.

They all climbed back at the top, the dragon following them. Once they got out, the entrance immediately closed, as a few boulders fell in front of it. They were glad they at least made it out in time.

Once they arrived, their friends happily greeted them, along with Ronin and Pythor.

The siblings turned to him, Pythor, seeing he began to leave. "We are sorry.. We shouldn't have blamed you for the murder.." Kai said, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Oh, it's fine. I can get over it. I will see you around, Ninja." He slightly smiled, before turning away to continue walking the dirt covered path.

"Are you okay?! We were so worried!" Their friends once again said.

"We're fine guys, really." The siblings smiled. "We would like to meet you our parents, Ray and Maya." They smiled.

"We have something to show you." Maya smiled. "You've clearly shown us that you're prepared."

"Prepared for what?" Nya said.

"For these." Two blades formed in their parents' hands. Both had golden handles, but they were far from similar. Their father's had a red metal used fire the blade, as flame floated around it, while their mother's had blue or almost cyan metal with water drops floating around the weapon.

"These are for us?" Kai questioned.

"I think you're ready to inherit our powers." Maya said. "Well, there is one other thing." She smirked and gestured at the dragon.

The previously two headed dragon had split into two separate ones, each one with its element's color. The water one was a cyan like color with hints of blue all around it. The fire one meanwhile, looked fierce, with various shades of red all over it.

"What.. Just happened?" Skylor wondered.

"You see, certain elements can fuse together to create even stronger ones. Water and fire, water and lightning, water and nature-

"You're just going to say all the water ones, huh?" Ray glared at his wife.

"Well, it is my element, after all." She returned the glare. "This is Reef, Nya." She smiled.

"And this, Kai." Ray grinned at the dragon's playful behavior. "Is Flame."

They went closer to pet the two. Each one was surprisingly calm, probably because they smelled like their parents. The others soon approached he dragon's as well, looking at them in awe.

"Come on little buddy, I just want to pet you-" Jay approached Reef, grinning. The dragon pushed him back before he could approach him though, making him land on the ground.

"I think me and you are gonna be good friends." Nya giggled as the dragon snuggled its head closer to her.

Ronin interrupted. "Just so you know, I'm still waiting on you two to fix Rex." He said.

"What? Why do I have to do that?!" Nya cried.

"Yeah! What about Cole?!" Jay said.

"Number one, you are the most annoying of the two and at least know how to handle mechanics." He raised a brow and then pointed to Nya. "You will help him as a payback for the bruise that punch is gonna give me."

After some more talking and awkward silence, Ray spoke up. "I'm surprised you managed to make it all alone for so many years. It makes us feel even more guilty about this.."

"Well.." Nya sheepishly smiled. "We may or may not have a criminal record.."

"You what?!" Maya exclaimed. "We will clear your name no matter what!"

"Um.. Thanks." Kai said. 'They took it a lot calmer than I thought..'

"I think we should head back to the Monastery now. Lloyd and Zane will not believe us!" Cole said.

"Yeah, I think it's a good time to go."

And so, everyone apart from Ronin made their way back to the Monastery, using the dragons to arrive there quicker. Ray and Maya will see old friends and make new ones. But the most important mission to them, is freeing their children off of the guilt they've been carrying for years.

See? I'm back on track now! Kind of.. Well, I hope you enjoyed the end to this subplot!

C ya!
