CH 5
TW: self harm, abuse, death
I tried on a few things and settled on a simple black long-sleeved dress that hugged my figure and then flowed out reaching above my knees. I put on sheer tights and my boots and I headed to the boys' dorms grabbing my leather jacket on my way out.
I knocked on their door and Mat opened it letting me in.
"He's in the bathroom. Been in there for a while actually, we haven't heard anything either."
"Honestly, I wonder how you boys think." I took out my wand and muttered alohomora and the bathroom door unlocked. I went in and found him on the floor in his suit pants and turtleneck, with his blazer hanging off the chair in the corner. My heart ached at the sight and I walked in front of him, inconspicuously checking his forearms or anything sharp near him.
"Draco, what are you doing?"
"You really shouldn't come to dinner. It's just, I think-"
"Shut up. Don't give me some lame reason as to why you don't want me there. I have dealt with your father plenty of times, I have been to your house more times than my own. I will be fine. Draco, you will be fine. I am a buffer; he won't do anything to you."
I reached out a hand to lift him up and then I handed him his jacket. We left the bathroom and all their heads turned to us. We both went to Draco's side of the room, and we stood. I nodded, then he nodded, and we both put our hands on his clock that he never touches and that always has the wrong time on it. In a few seconds we began travelling back to London, well just outside of London, to Wiltshire.
It took about 15 seconds for us to get there and then we both landed at the front of his house. As usual I always fell and right before I reached the ground Draco caught me. Every single time. You'd think I'd learnt by now to use my two feet.
I turned back, far across the street and looked at my house, the Rosier Manor. I was staring, then Draco pulled my arm towards the front door, rubbing my shoulder reassuringly. Narcissa was already there and greeted us, and a couple elves came and took our jackets. She led us to their dining room where Lucius was sitting at the head of the table.
"Lucius, they're here."
"Yes, evening son, evening... Davina, was it?" Narcissa glared at him and so he cracked a smile at us, and we sat next to each other to his left. Lucius then lifted his cane and I saw Draco tense beside me. I reached for his hand under the table. His father just hit the leg of the table and an elf came from the kitchen and rushed to his side.
"Is master rea-"
"Do not speak unless spoken to!" He snapped and now Draco was squeezing my hand. "We are ready for dinner, hurry up." He yelled again and hit the little elf with his cane. It was silent until our food was served, and Lucius began eating which allowed the rest of us to begin as well. It was their famous roast with broccoli and potatoes. It was actually on of my favourite meals, and I distinctly remember Narcissa saying she would only organise it for special occasions.
"So how is school Draco?"
"It's fine."
"Are you doing well in potions? I remember you saying you'd want a career in that field, you as well Davina. I forgot how much you both were alike."
"We're both the best students in the class Mother."
"That's excellent."
"What about all your other subjects Draco, I remember you not doing very well in Divination last year." I remember him passing with flying colours, because I helped him, but apparently not to the standard of his father.
"My teacher gave me feedback on my work, and she seemed very pleased father."
"Well, we'll see how well you perform on your O.W.L.S."
"Oh Lucius, let's leave the conversations light. Shall we discuss other matters." Something glistened in his eyes, and he finished chewing to turn to us.
"Now, before you both were born, Draco, your mother and I were acquainted with the Rosier's across the street, which is why you two have known one another since birth. However, before you both were born, we knew that we were going to have a boy, and they were going to have a girl. From that, we decided that we would join both families with you two." I almost spit out my water and Draco had choked on his.
"Father what are you talking about?"
"I am saying that once you both graduate, you will get married."
"Father we're like family."
"That's wonderful, then you're one step closer to building your family." I wanted to convulse, and I think I was.
"Now Lucius, let me explain." She turned to both of us and used her maternal voice that was always calming, however there was no calming effect right at this moment. "Both families decided this, but it isn't bad at all. You both are already very close and in your next year you can think about changing the type of relationship you have."
"Davina already has-
"Draco." I turned to him and then I turned back to his parents. "You mentioned that both families decided this, then I'd like to hear what my parents have to say about it. It probably was their idea, they're probably home right now!" I was getting very riled up and nothing made me angrier than my family and Draco knew that.
"They haven't spoken to me since what happened, I haven't seen them since then either, so I'd like to know their thoughts on this. I want to know why they want to continue to ruin my life even though they don't have me as their daughter anymore." I got up, "I'm going to go ask them." Draco stood up.
"Davina."
"No Draco, let me go." I began walking to the door and I heard his mother trying to stop him from leaving. I grabbed my jacket and rushed out. I crossed the road and then began walking inside my family's entrance. I pushed the gates open with my wand and I didn't bother knocking on the door as I walked in. The paintings on the walls looked shocked to see me and a few of them have aged in the past couple years. Some even smiled.
I hurried all the way to the study where Evan Rosier always resided. I was about to rush in, but I'd like to limit the hits I'm about to get so I knocked. The door magically opened, and my father looked for a few moments before realising it was me. He stood up and walked around his desk towards me and slapped me across the face "you have some nerve to enter this house! After you disrespected me and your mother, her last words spoke about you, and I continue to wonder why she wasted her breath!" I rolled my eyes but then his words computed in my brain and I glared up at him.
"She died! My mother is dead, and you didn't even write me a letter. Or get the Malfoys to tell me! Are you fucking serious!" He slapped me again, harder, and I could feel blood dripping down the side of my face. His jet black hair hanging loosely on his forehead. Wow, something out of place.
"Again with your disrespect!" He accioed his cane and he slashed me across the face with the top of it which was pointy for this specific reason. I'm surprised its not blunt from all the years of misuse. More blood. I turned back to him and my eyes were filled with tears.
"Use your brain, or whatever is in that head of yours. I don't respect you. You are my least favourite person in the entire world, but I came here for one thing: can you tell the Malfoy's that you don't want me to marry Draco, that you don't want to go on with agreement?" He finally realised why I was there and he deep breathed.
"Davina, I will not do that."
"Of course you can't, why would I ever think you would do something that I want, or something that would make me happy?"
"Davina!" I stormed out of his office and went further down hall to my childhood room. It still had that pink wall my father had painted for me. My bed was still there and some of my old clothes, I saw a picture of me with my parents on either side of me. I was smiling uncontrollably because I had just gotten my Hogwarts acceptance letter. They looked proud of me, and I looked happy. What a disgusting picture.
I took it with me.
I rushed over back to the Malfoy's, Draco was sitting at the bottom of their staircase that was at the entrance, but I went to the dining room where his parents still sat.
They both stared at the gash on my face and the bruises that must be there by now. Lucius looked as if he expected this and Narcissa looked equally worried and scared to say something about it.
"Thank you for dinner, and I don't plan on living long so don't bother about planning for your son to marry me, I'm nothing." I walked out, not bothering to hear their answers and went back to Draco. He walked over to me and put his hand to my face. I grabbed it and moved it away.
"Why did you go back there?"
"I was so angry that even though they're not in my life anymore, they find ways to make it worse. By the way my mother is dead and he purposely didn't tell the Malfoy's so that I wouldn't find out." His expression showed that he wanted to kill our parents, hug me and comfort me about my mothers death all at once. He settled for the latter.
"Why didn't he tell you?"
"He likes to see me suffer. The first thing he mentioned was her death, just to tell me how disrespectful I am. I don't talk to him anymore so he punished me by not telling me when my own fucking mother dies." I started crying and so he hugged me. I swallowed them back and pulled away.
"What happened?"
"Well, he slapped me and then he got his cane. Also, he still wants us to marry, and if I don't, I'll get worse than his cane." I was shocked as to how all this happened so quickly. How Draco and I can't see our families without something drastic happening. They were our biggest source of trauma and I'm baffled as to how we turned out different from them. I think it was because we have each other.
"It's fine, we will work it out."
"Let's just go. I want this day to be over."
We used the port key to get back to his dorm and it was thankfully empty. Everyone must still be at dinner or in the common room. I put the picture frame on his side table and he went to his bathroom briefly and came out with a washcloth and some bandages. We sat on his bed and he turned to me and started to wipe the blood off my face. Magic could only do so much, on the face, if you magically heal it, there can be permanent scarring. I kept wincing as he did it and then kept telling him to keep going every time he stopped from the pain it was causing me. He put the bandages on and then threw out the scraps.
"You know the drill, grab whatever clothes you want, and you can sleep here tonight. Only if you want to, you might want to go to Mi-
"I'll stay, thank you."
"Always. I'm always here."
I put on one of his big jumpers and pair of his joggers. It was all hanging loosely on me and went inside his bed.
"Aren't you hungry we didn't get much time to eat much."
"No, I'm fine."
"Okay, well I'll be in the common room, did you want me to stay?"
"No, no, you can go, I'll be fine. Just come back." I had to make sure he knew that just because I'm in a relationship it doesn't change anything about ours. He walked out and I covered myself under his sheets.
After a while of me laying there, replaying the events of the evening and trying to lie comfortably so that I wasn't in pain, Draco came back and got into his bed next to me. He laid against the headboard and I felt him looking at me, I was turning the other way so I could have my eyes open slightly. He thought I was asleep and then the other boys came in, they glanced at us, used to this situation by now. Mat then walked in and saw me lying there, he kept looking at my face so I had to shut my eyes properly.
"What the fuck happened to her?" He whispered.
"Her father."
"Why?"
"She'll tell you tomorrow. It's not good Mattheo, it's like last time. I didn't know what to do and now I don't know what to do?"
"We'll figure it out. She has Michael anyway. Sorry to bring it up." I assumed Draco made a face.
"Does she though? I don't trust him." Of course you don't.
"Considering you're the only real family she has, you won't like or trust anyone she dates."
"Yeah I guess." There was a moment of silence but I knew they weren't done talking. "Hey, do you think she'll tell the Ravenclaw about tonight? About everything?"
"She might, though I don't know exactly what happened. I know she doesn't like to lie, but then again she just doesn't mention things so she doesn't have to lie or tell." I heard Mat walk over to my side of Draco's bed.
"That means that she's going to put up a front for him and to us to pretend she's fine so we don't worry." I was going to, but now I think I'll just be up front to them. I have no idea about Michael though. I did tell Cedric everything, but that's because it was kind of happening as Cedric and I started getting together.
"She is so smart and thick at the same time." Mat said, and I almost scrunched my face.
"I agree." Rude.
"Alright, I'm gonna crash and we can do damage control tomorrow. She is like a little glass figurine that I want to protect." I don't know how to take that, but I like listening to their conversations. I don't get to see their bond when I'm around because they're focused on me majority of the time. Which now I find extremely rude of me, but I think that's just how it is. I'm the glass and they're the protectors.
"Tell me about it." Mat kissed me softly on the forehead and I tensed trying not to wince. He noticed I think and he sighed heavily. I heard him walk off and I got cold so I turned over as Draco was getting into bed properly. He put his arm around me so I nestled into him.
He is the only constant thing in my life, apart from Mat. From the moment I started breathing he has always been there. I know I will always have Draco.
