CH 31

"You said 5." I thought back to the letter I had written this morning, telling him I'd be coming today. He usually didn't care, but the portkey takes me straight into his room and I didn't want to see anything I shouldn't.

"I was um, held back."

"Ah, no matter, come here." I went towards his open arms and hugged him. His tall lanky figure hovering over me.

"You home alone?"

"Sort of. My father is obviously not here, but Enzo is staying here." I swallowed.

"Oh, okay."

"What was that? Did something happen?"

"No, nothing it's fine. What are we doing?" He didn't believe me but he didn't push me on it.

"I was thinking an old time favourite." He suggested.

"Definitely."

"I'll go set it up, can you get Enzo downstairs?"

"Uh, yeah, sure."

"Um, it's the room next to yours." I nodded and he walked out. I grabbed my bag and went out shortly after and I dropped it off in my room before knocking on Enzo's door.

"Yeah," he said loudly, signalling that I could come in. He probably thought I was Theo, or did he know I was coming; if he did he probably would've come to the door. I went in and he was laying on his bed in just his joggers, reading. He looked up at me and then he practically jumped off his bed and came towards me. "Oh, hi."

"Hey."

"You look beautiful."

"Enzo," I said, warning him about what I said. "Also I'm in sweats." I said and I looked down to re-check that I looked like crap.

"Still." He said and he finally met my eyes. "So what are you doing here?"

"I thought Theo would have told you, but I'm staying here for a couple days."

"Oh, nice, great, that's good. Did you know I was here?"

"No."

"Oh."

"It wouldn't have made a difference, I'm not avoiding you."

"Good to know. So did you just come to say hi?"

"No, Theo is setting up for our tradition, I was just coming to get you."

"Oh right, how long has it been since we've done this"?

"A long time." The whole time I hadn't looked at his torso but he had grabbed a shirt and put in on in front of me which made it difficult. I guess I have a type, Cedric, Michael and Enzo all have the same type of muscular body, so did Mat but he was bigger.

"Let's head down."

"A royale with cheese," we all said in unison and then laughed. I went to grab a handful of popcorn, and Enzo had the same idea. Our hands bumped and he smiled.

"Sorry," he said, for my benefit because he seemed to enjoy the encounter; I, however, snatched my hand away.

As we kept watching and Theo and I acted out the scene where Mia Wallace tells the tomato joke, as always, I started to fall asleep.

I fluttered open my eyes, watching the credits scene play on the television and then he clicked off, I realised it was Enzo because Theo was already gone. I was still half asleep so I didn't notice at first that I was lying on his thigh. I started to move so I could get off him but he stopped me.

"Yeah I know, I'm going," he said softly, knowing I had just woken up. He gently lifted my head and put a pillow underneath it to replace his leg, and then he covered me with a blanket. He tucked it in too which was unnecessary.

"Night Claire." I know I told him to call me that again but a part of me misses him calling me by my full name.

"Night Lorenzo," I mumbled and then fell back asleep.

"Oh for fucks sake," I rumbled as I hopped out of bed. I rushed upstairs and put on my shoes, grabbing my jacket on the way to Enzo's room.

"Convenient huh," he said and he put on his jacket.

"So we just apparate?"

"Yeah, here, I'll take us." He took out his wand and I flinched as he went for my hand. "I kind of need to touch you for this."

"Mhm, yeah right, sorry," I said as we started to warp through space.

We landed at the Riddle Manor and we went to the meeting room downstairs. All the parents were there and then us two. Everyone looked tired and bothered seen as how it was 3 in the morning. The witching hour.

"I thank you all for coming, this is a momentous occasion. There was confusion as to why I hadn't recruited my son yet, and it was because I wished to recruit him at this time, which is the time that he was blessed as a child all those years ago." My heart sunk to the bottom of the earth.

The door opened and there he was, in cuffs like me the other day. He had a cut on his cheek, it was bleeding, probably because he resisted the trip here.

"My son," he said and smiled as if he actually loved anyone or anything. Voldemort then turned his head straight to me and Mat followed his gaze. Voldemort lifted his wand and aimed it at me, I knew I needed to cooperate otherwise he would hurt Mat.

"Imperio."

"Father no."

Every atom in my being fought against it and it worked, he wasn't controlling me. But I knew I couldn't reveal that, otherwise like I said, he'd hurt Mat.

"Walk over to us." I did as he asked, making him believe he was controlling me. "Take out your wand." I was standing between Mat and his father, I looked at Mat, he looked so beaten. Voldemort grabbed my arm and lifted my sleeve to reveal the mark

"This should be shown, proudly."

"Apologies, my Lord," I said as meaningful as I could and he scoffed.

"Cast this spell." He muttered a spell that I had to repeat, then he nodded at his lackey who then forced Mat to his knees and lifted his sleeve. "Cast the spell, and aim your wand on his forearm."

Merlin's beard, Voldemort is making me give the mark to Mat. I aimed my wand above his forearm and I winced. Mat knew I wasn't being controlled and he looked deep into my eyes. It's as if he was telling me that it was okay. I muttered the spell and he tensed.

His jaw clenched and then the mark started to form onto his soft skin. After a minute or so it was over and I could breathe.

"I'd hoped I was the one to complete this ceremony, however, I thought this was more... ironic." I rolled my eyes as he couldn't see me and I let out my hand to help lift Mat up. He stood and I stepped closer to him. Voldemort 'let off' the imperium curse and so I grabbed Mat's hands, which were shaking.

"I'm so sorry," I said, trying to hold back tears.

"I'm sorry, I know how hard that was."

"Welcome," Voldemort said and a few moments passed, people clapped, and then Voldemort shouted at everyone to leave. "Son, my little Davina, you stay." Enzo looked at me, not wanting to leave, so I nodded to him and he left.

"You are such a fascinating couple, so powerful. Davina your task is somewhat void now and I don't have another for you... yet, however, I did want you to witness me give my son his task" Mat squeezed my hand. "I want you, my son, to be my second, you will do all that I ask. This means that you will be staying here for the time being. It also means that you will not see Davina because you are required to keep everything I tell you, and everything I tell you to do a secret."

"Please father."

"No." He snapped. "You will do as I say. Miss Rosier you are free to leave now, the Berkshire boy is waiting outside the door for you. Such a shame how he loves you deeply yet you love my son. The days of youth, how touching."

The way he said 'Rosier', reminded me of when Morana said to me, which then made me think about Hogwarts and my friends... Michael. I missed them, and now I don't know if I'll even make it to my final year.

"Can we say goodbye?" Mat asked.

"No." He said but I didn't listen and I turned Mat to me and kissed him briefly. I whispered in his ear and cupped his face, tracing my thumb along his cheek; his lip quivered.

"I love you, hold on, you'll get through this."  I turned away, not giving Voldemort a glance.

I found Enzo outside, just like Voldemort said.

"Where's Riddle?"

"He has to stay here, fathers orders." I tried to joke but my current mood made it sound depressing rather than humorous.

"Are you coming back Theo's?"

"Yeah, but I need to write a letter to Draco so he knows what's happening. But I'll cut the visit short and go back home tomorrow."

"You okay?" I shook my head and he grabbed hold of my hand.

"Lets go."

<><><><><><><>

We'd arrived back at Theo's and I wrote to Draco from Enzo's room. I was sitting on the edge of his unmade bed and he was leaning on his door, across from me.

"I should pack, and shower," I said trying to remove the tension.

"You can shower here if you want." If we were just friends, I'd say yes because I didn't want to be alone, but our situation makes me want to risk it and head to my room.

"It's okay, I'll just go. Thanks Lorenzo." The use of his full name made his jaw clench. He got out of my way and I opened the door as he stood next to me.

"Davina." I stopped and turned, looking up at him. "You look like you've seen a ghost, and then that ghost took the form of your mother." On a normal day I'd laugh at what he said, and he thought the same thing which is why he looked even more worried.

"Come on, can I at least hug you?" I nodded and he opened himself up to me and I wrapped my arms around him. I started to sob, so he rubbed my back and he leaned on my head, trying to comfort me. I swallowed my tears and exhaled, letting myself relax.

"I should go." I made it out of his room, he still stood in the doorway and we made eye contact.

"It's not your fault. You guys will find a way back to each other." He deep breathed, as if saying these words to me was physically painful for him. I didn't respond, I just walked the last few steps to my room.
