Prologue- Where did they go?...

Just a heads up for the whole book, I'm not exactly the best writer so some things might be confusing or the plot might not be good... But yeah I'm trying my hardest to make this actually good.

Molly swung the door of the shop open, throwing her bag to the floor. "Aunt Cass, I'm back!" She called out, removing her gloves and boots. She absolutely hated the gloves, as they were often really uncomfortable to wear all day.

A woman with messy hair moved her goggles to her forehead, smiling at Molly. She wiped a bit of dirt off her face before coming over to her. "So, how was the trip?"

Molly shrugged, she didn't exactly enjoy the trip that was mandatory in the school curriculum. "Could've been better," she replied.

"Oh..." Cass looked her in the eyes, "what happe-"

"Hey boss, back's all cleaned up!" Called a worker Drone who was just coming out from the back, cutting off Cass.

Cass turned to face them. "Thanks K!" she said to him with a smile. Cass and K had been friends for a really long time, probably since before the accident that had claimed Molly's left hand and foot. Aunt Cass also had a few of these metal replacements, but hers were less than Molly's. Three fingers on her right hand were replaced. Molly, on the other hand, has most of her left arm replaced, and a good portion of her lower leg and foot. Heck, for all she knew she could also have internal replacements.

"I'm going to go pick up the order from the storage facility, I'll be back shortly!" K informed them, heading towards the door.

"Alright, have fun!" Cass told him with a wave. She turned back to face Molly. "Almost forgot to tell you, your friends stopped by earlier wondering where you were, they said they'd meet you later tonight."

"Oh! I should probably get going then!" Molly looked around in a panic. She had completely forgotten that tonight she was supposed to meet with them.

Cass handed her the gloves. "Alright, just stay clear of the Elliot's, they're having some kind of fancy party or something like that. Stupid fancy stuff."

"Okay!" Molly slipped on her coat and boots, followed by the gloves. "See you later!" She rushed out the door and began to make her way to the clearing.

A gentle breeze rustled in the leaves above, creating a peaceful ambience as Molly made her way through the forest. She took determined steps as she neared her destination. This path had been traveled by her many times before, as it was the only way to see the ones who treated her as an equal. The drones were practically her best (and only) friends.

Society never treated people like her with respect, often seeing those who required the metal prosthetics as less human, and therefore they didn't matter. That was why she had to meet with them. The drones were the only ones who didn't treat her like crap, as they actually understood.

T and S were the best. They always went out of their way to make sure Molly was happy. T was determined, defensive, and quite knowledgeable. S, despite the fact that she couldn't talk, was the biggest sweetheart, and quite artistic as well.

As she made her way into the clearing, she noticed it was surprisingly empty. "Huh... I'm sure they'll be here soon..." She muttered under her breath. Worry pressed at the back of her mind. What if something happened to them? No, don't even think about that... She thought to herself. But the worry was still there.

Time passed slowly, almost tauntingly. She kept telling herself that they would get here soon, but she felt like they might not. It's okay, they'll be here soon. Molly told herself. She needed to stop worrying so much. They probably just had extra work to do or something. She brought out her knife and began scraping it against the edge of a fallen branch, just to relieve her worry.

Over time, the sky began to lighten. But not because of the sun. It glowed in a dark orange color, which was concerning. She backed up against the trees to get a better look, but quickly wished she hadn't.

"What the..."

A chorus of ear-piercing shrieks broke the silence, along with the sound of alarms and gunshots. There was something going on, and Molly needed to know what it was. Within a few moments she was back on the path, rushing back towards the city. As she ran she noticed what looked like planes in the sky. Upon closer inspection, they were drones with wings. She ran faster. So what if she could be running towards her doom, there was something going on.

She ran straight into the cover of an alleyway, gasping as she saw what was happening. There were drones with wings and freaky tails, killing and eating the humans. Despite her slight hatred towards the 'normal' humans, she still wanted to do something. Sadly, if she tried, she would likely be killed just like the rest of them.

Many of the humans were killed in gruesome ways. Torn to shreds, shot to death, blown up, decapitated, so on so forth. Worse yet, they were devoured by the Drones afterwards.

She could feel her heart in her throat as she clasped her hands over her mouth. Her stomach grew uneasy, threatening to make her throw up at any point. She'd never seen this much blood and violence before...

She froze as one of the things flew into the alleyway that she hid in, her heavy breathing coming to a halt. It looked around, clearly searching for any escaped humans. She held her breath as she watched it prowl around. To her surprise, it almost looked familiar in a sense. The drone neared her hiding spot, digging through the pile with its sharp claws. It seemed to grumble something in annoyance. In the darkness, the '><' replacing it's eyes was extremely visible, and extremely terrifying. Molly stayed completely frozen, but clearly that wasn't enough. It looked straight at her, it's mouth curving into a wicked grin.

Molly squeezed her eyes shut, anticipating the pain of death, but it never came.

Instead, she was grabbed surprisingly gently and lifted up off the ground. She opened her eyes to see the city below her. She could already see the blood and bodies all over the streets, sending shivers down her spine. The drone must be bringing her somewhere more convenient to kill her... Right? She was just another human, just another poor, helpless victim. They were now just above the outskirts of the city, where the drone began to descend. Molly closed her eyes again, not wanting to see her doom. It was probably going to drop her or something. To her surprise, rather than a violent death, there was just a gentle landing as the drone placed her down on her feet.

The drone sighed in relief. "Glad I got you before anyone else did..."

Molly began to back away from it, holding her knife out in shaky hands. "Who- Why- What are you!"

The thing looked at her, it's brows furrowed. "Huh, people are bad at recognizing faces, aren't they... Then again a lot has changed since last time...."

Molly didn't reply. She backed off more, still gripping the knife.

"What? Oh come on... It's not that hard!" The thing came closer to her, shoving it's face infront of her own with a smile. "You do recognize me, right?"

Molly shook her head. "Why would I recognize a killer," she hissed in response.

The thing stepped back. "Come on, you saw me two days ago, is your memory really that bad?!"

Molly narrowed her eyes. This drone claimed to know her. This drone thought it was smart. "My memory is rather good, maybe you're the one with memory problems if you can't remember killing people just a few moments ago!" There was a thud as something landed behind her. She was grabbed from behind and swung around, and she couldn't tell if it was trying to kill her or it was just hugging her.

The drone rolled their eyes. "You remember S at least, right?" He gestured towards the drone who had just placed her down. Molly looked up at the drone who they claimed was 'S'.

"S isn't a murderer." Molly glared into so called 'S' eyes. "This is just an imposter. You're trying to trick me, aren't you! Well it's not going to work, I-I-"

"You really are clueless, aren't you..." The other drone muttered, gazing up at the orange sky. "You don't know what's going on. You don't know what horrible things they've done to us..."

Molly took a step away from them, looking at the black hole. "W-what is going on... Why is this happening..." If this drone said stuff like that, they must have some sort of an idea of what's happening.

The Drone let out an irritated groan. "I thought you would know... Because I have no idea," they hissed.

"Why would I know!" Molly retaliated. "I don't even know who you are and you expect me to be able to explain this?!"

The drone facepalmed themselves. "I thought you'd come to the conclusion yourself, but no..." They backed off a bit. "S, T, Molly. Best friends, meeting in the woods to escape society. If you haven't figured it out, S," he pointed to S, "Molly," he pointed to the human, "and T." He pointed to himself.

Molly took a step back. "No. No no no no! That's not possible!" She immediately put her knife away as she put together the clues. "What did they do to you?!"

T scoffed. "So you finally understand, didn't expect it to take that long!"

"Hey! In my defense you look totally different!"

"Sure, make excuses."

The two hugged eachother tightly, with S joining in. This was all too much for her to comprehend at the moment. For a moment, everything was okay. Everything was normal. No one was dying. There was peace. But reality was quite harsh compared to the short-lived fantasy. Before she could pull away she was struck in the head. Everything went dark.

S flinched back slightly. She hoped that she didn't hit her too hard. Well, at least Molly was knocked out and they could continue with their plan. She gently picked up the human, throwing her over her shoulder.

"Well, now we just need to sneak her onto one of those ships..." T muttered as he pulled an outfit out of his bag alongside a helmet. They couldn't force the human to wear it, so they would just have to hope she would put it on herself.

S looked at a small ship in the distance that wasn't being guarded or anything. There was no one nearby either. T had noticed this as well, so the two flew over to it. To their relief it was in good condition, so they brought Molly inside. T strapped the human down with care and precision, as she had to be safe for the takeoff. He set the suit and helmet on the ground nearby.

"I hope I get to see you again..." T whispered to Molly's unconscious form before leaving the ship. The doors locked, and before long she was gone, gone off the face of the Earth.

Something felt wrong.

And it wasn't just the throbbing headache or the occasional beep cutting through the silence.

Molly's eyes snapped open and she awoke in a cold sweat. She noticed that she was strapped down to a chair, but where was she. Was that all just a dream? Was everyone alive? She unstrapped herself and walked over to the window, her hopes fading instantly.

Home was gone.

Blown up.

Tears formed in her eyes and she began to panic. She couldn't stop staring at the exploded Earth. All she felt was fear and confusion. She turned around, noticing a spacesuit. Knowing that this was only the beginning of the pain, she reluctantly put it on.

She wanted to see S and T, but she didn't know if she would make it.

If she did end up running out of oxygen or something, would they even miss her? Or was this all just false hope?

Well, only one way to find out.
