Chapter 1- The Underwhelming Face Of Death

Jayde had been waiting on this moment for two years now. Two years full of planning and crafting, studying and practicing. After managing to sneak outside of the colony, she could finally do the one thing she had wanted to do for two years. Avenge her father.

He had been killed during a breach that was barely escaped by most Drones. A Disassembler broke into the colony and nearly slaughtered them all. Luckily, Workers are smarter than many are led to believe. They had been able to hide away from the murderer, even fighting it off with weapons, which clearly caught it off guard.

She sighed as she walked through the snow, stepping on a corpse every once in a while. After the core collapse, the entire planet had been driven into an unstoppable winter, freezing everything. She kicked a human skeleton, letting it fall to the ground with a clatter. Oh, how she hated the humans... They had caused Cobalt-12's core to collapse, they had enslaved her kind to do work, and what did they get in return? A bunch of murder-bots who were going to destroy them all. That's why she had to destroy them first, even if her main weapon was a sword. Yes, a sword. It was the only blade she could find, and she enjoyed using blades, so it worked out. But she still had things like guns and whatnot, most of which she had created.

As she kept walking, the spire of corpses in the distance seemed to grow larger. The closer she got, the more risk there was. She pulled her blade out of it's sheath, holding it in her hand. Better to be safe than sorry. After a quick scan of the area, she began to make her way closer and closer, keeping her eyes open. Now the red [FATAL ERROR] warnings on the dead Drone's visors were visible, making her shudder. She was surprised that she hadn't been ambushed by now, as she was practically right at the entrance. She looked up at it, Cobalt-12's three moons illuminating the sky above. It was tall and extremely intimidating, a show of strength from the murderers. But despite literally everything in her programing telling her to turn around and run away, she continued her hunt. The inside of the spire was just as horrifying, littered with metal scraps and Worker corpses. In the center there was what looked like a landing pod, the same type that the monsters had arrived in when they began to wreak havoc. Her eyes darted towards the shadows at every small movement, though most of it was from the wind.

This was surprisingly underwhelming for her. As far as she could tell, there was no one here. There was only silence. She decided to inspect the pod a bit. The outside was heavily damaged, as the inside would likely be as well. She peered through the shattered window, looking at the interior. There were a few screens and a control panel. This seemed to be the main part, but then she noticed a few add-ons. Three small, separate rooms had been built onto the pod as a sort of extension, though it was clearly done after the landing. If the Disassemblers had built this, she'd be surprised.

With a sigh she turned away from the pod, looking at a few torn up lampposts and metal beams that had been used to provide what looked like hanging or climbing spots, seemingly for entertainment. There were also a few cave-like structures around, and she could've sworn she saw a yellow light inside one of them. She jabbed her blade into one of the corpses out of pure annoyance. This was getting to be fairly disappointing for her.

Just as she was about to give up and go back home, she heard something. No, not the howling wind or her mind playing tricks on her, but actual movement. With a chuckle she held up her blade and began to approach the source of the sound, being met by two yellow eyes in the dark. Wait, not just two, but five more on the top of its head. Surprisingly enough, it looked scared of her, which she found amusing. A big bad murderer looking afraid of her? Highly unlikely! She continued to near closer and closer, though it only retreated further into the dark. It ran, but Jayde followed, preparing to land a blow of sorts with her blade.

It stopped for a moment, turning back to face her, before it flew off. Jayde was quite confused by this, as she expected it to try killing her or something. She turned to leave, finding no point in this any longer, but was met by the Disassembler. She shrieked, stumbling back a few steps and holding out her blade. "Stay back! I won't hesitate to strike!" Jayde yelled at it, though it came closer, putting a hand on Jayde's sword and inspecting it slightly before looking back at her with a hint of concern. It smiled slightly, moving a bit closer and patting her head. Jayde shoved it's hand away with a scowl. It tilted it's head slightly at this, it's tail gently swaying behind it. This Drone wore what looked like a dark gray winter jacket with fur on the bottom and the hood. Their hair was about medium length and fairly curly. Though none of this mattered, especially when you noticed the few oil stains and acknowledged the fact that it was a ruthless, bloodthirsty killer.

[Silly worker] it's screen read as it smiled, before it's eyes returned to normal. It booped her lightly where her nose would be before grabbing her. Ignoring Jayde's struggling, it brought out its bladed wings and took off. She kicked at it and shouted in protest as it soared towards the entrance of the spire before setting her down. [Go home], it ordered with a smile, nudging her away gently.

Jayde narrowed her eyes. "Aren't you going to kill me or something?" She asked, still on edge.

[No] the Drone displayed on it's screen with a shake of its head. She found it quite strange that it wasn't talking or anything.

This left Jayde utterly bewildered. She took a step back before cleanly slicing off it's head and running away. She sprinted as fast as she could back towards the colony, trying to get as far away from the Disassemblers as fast as she possibly could. The prior events still left her confused, as why would a Disassembly Drone ever act like that? There must've been something wrong with it.

After stumbling through the snow, she eventually got back home. She punched in a code to open the door, shutting it behind her with a sigh. She pulled out her blade once again and looked at it. A bit of oil dripped off of it, just as she had wanted. Well, at least she had done some form of damage. Thankfully, there were no guards out right now. With a sigh she retraced her steps through the colony, hoping to get home before her mother got worried, if she even noticed her absence. She probably would.

There was darkness for a while before S could once again see. She blinked a few times in confusion, glancing around at their surroundings. Her own oil stained the snow beneath her, helping her remember what had just happened.

The Worker had sliced off her head... After she had saved them... Was a friend too much to ask for?!

"Hey S! What happened here?!" A Drone yelled, flying down to her side. She recognized them as K, the leader of the squad. He was definitely a lot nicer than F, though he still was really strict and sometimes rude.

S looked up at him with a shrug. She really didn't want to tell him what had just happened, as it would be extremely embarrassing. [Can't remember]

K narrowed his eyes as F landed beside him, licking a bit of oil from his claws. F was the worst, and if anything that's an understatement. He was self centered, rude, and didn't care about anything. Worse yet, he didn't stop when K told him to.

"Idiots didn't stand a chance, shame your stomach is too weak to handle hunting," F teased, walking into the spire without a glance back.

S looked down guilty as K helped her up. She had always hated hunting, it just felt wrong on so many levels. Rarely, it brought weird, unexplainable dreams that she could hardly remember in the morning, though they all felt so real. [Sorry...] She apologized, though she didn't exactly have anything to apologize for.

K raised a brow and looked at her. "Why's that?"

S shrugged, looking at him with a slight frown. [I didn't help] she replied, her shoulders drooped slightly.

He just bat a hand at this. "Oh it's fine, as long as you don't just sit around all the time like F I'm fine with it," he assured her.

She watched K go into the spire as well, but S decided she didn't feel like going back into there at the moment. She flew to the top of the spire, where she decided to rest for a while. The sun wouldn't be up for a good few hours, which gave her plenty of alone time. As she looked up at the stars, she thought about that Worker from earlier. What was she thinking? Why did she save it? She understood why it was scared, but at the same time she didn't know why. She wasn't going to hurt it... All she wanted was a friend. An actual friend. Not forced, not bad, just a friend, someone who cared, someone who wouldn't judge her every move.

Luckily, S was great at sneaking into places.

Especially colonies.

A quick in and out trip would be fine. Who knows, maybe she would stay there for a while. Sure, the Workers would be absolutely horrified, but she just had to assure them that she ment no harm. Maybe she could be something other than a murderer for once. Maybe she could be welcomed and loved.

That would be nice...
