Chapter 3

I'm laying on the floor with my eyes closed and my hands on my stomach. "Are you, are you coming to the tree? They strung up a man, they say who murdered three. Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be if we met at midnight in the hanging tree." I sing softly to myself. "What is she doing?" I heard someone whisper. "I don't know ask her." I heard someone else whisper back, I sighed as I kept going. "Are you, are you coming to the tree? Where a dead man called out, for his love to flee. Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be if we met at midnight in the hanging tree." I heard some foot steps coming my way. "Are you, are you coming to the tree? Where I told you to run so we'd both be free. Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be if we met at midnight in the hanging tree. Are you, are you coming to the tree? Wear a necklace of hope, side by side with me. Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be if we met at midnight in the hanging tree." I sang as the footsteps stopped.   "Are you, are you coming to the tree? Where I told you to run so we'd both be free. Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be if we met at midnight in the hanging tree. Are you, are you coming to the tree? They strung up a man, they say who murdered three. Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be if we met at midnight in the hanging tree. Are you, are you coming to the tree? Where a dead man called out, for his love to flee. Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be if we met at midnight in the hanging tree." I sang before sitting up and making direct eye contact with the people in front of me.

"Hello Mary I-" A man said but I cut him off. "Margaret." I look at the man in front of me emotionless. "Right. Margaret. I'm agent Ross fro-" He said but I cut him off again. "I know who you are and what you're from. Why am I being detained? What did I do to make me so untrustworthy?" I pushed myself against the wall still looking emotionless at him as I kept sitting on the floor. "Well we've never seen you before and all of a sudden you're there using powers, it's just a precaution really." He said and I scoffed. "So why make the Avengers question me first? Only to lock me up afterwards waiting for your judgement? You know what it doesn't matter." I shake my head. "I'll wait here till you made your judgement." I looked at him trying to read his expression. "Mary, I mean Margaret, I came to tell you that you are free to go." He said and I raised an eyebrow. "Then why is the door still locked?" He sighed. "Because I first wanted to talk to you but I can see you're not up for that." He said and opened up the door for me and I slowly got up. I walked out of the room and walked away, keeping an eye on them.

I walk up the stairs and 2 guards walk my way, I look at them and they look determined. I sighed as I just stood there, I realised this is a test to see if I would attack them. They stopped and stood in front of me. "Margaret Jacobs, you're under arrest." One of them says as they turn me around and put my hands behind my back. Agent Ross came walking up the stairs. "I'm being arrested for what exactly? I didn't do anything wrong." Agent Ross shook his head and looked at me. "I'm sorry Margaret but you're under arrest for obstruction of justice" He said and I look confused as the guard put handcuffs on my wrists. "Obstruction of- what?" I tried to figure out what I did wrong as I heard running footsteps. "You can't take her with you." Nat said as she stopped next to me. "I can she is under arrest for obstruction of justice." Agent Ross said and Nat looked at me just as confused as me. "How exactly? There is no criminal case and she isn't withholding information." Steve said and I looked at him, not expecting him to defend me. "She just is, I can't discuss this with you. Let's go." Agent ross said as he motioned the guards to walk. I looked at Nat and she nodded at me to reassure me. I sighed and nodded back before walking with the guards. They lead me to a van and sat me down. They attached the handcuffs to the wall of the van and walked out. I sat there by myself and I knew if I really wanted to I would be able to escape but I also knew if I did I would only make it worse for myself so I just sat there.

We drove for a while and I tried to look where we were going through the window but it was impossible. I just closed my eyes and started singing hanging tree again. "What is she doing?" One of the guards said as he looked back at me. "Wasn't she part of the red room program? Maybe it was something they got taught?" The other one said, looking at me through the rear mirror. I just kept singing, not paying attention to them. "Okay we're here." One of the guards said and I just kept singing. "Hey lady, stop singing, we're here." The other guard said and I opened up my eyes and looked him up and down. "So? That won't make me stop singing." I said before closing my eyes and kept going with my singing. They pulled me out of the van and dragged me inside and into a cell. "We'll see how long you can hold on with that." The guard said before locking the cell. I looked around my cell and laid on the floor again before continuing to sing.

"She has been singing for days now, no break at all not to use the bathroom, eat or drink. She hasn't even moved positions, she laid down right there when we brought her in and never moved again." I heard one of the guards say. "Okay open up." Agent Ross said and I opened up my eyes at that and sat up to see Agent ross walk in. "Are you ready to talk to me?" He asked as he sat down on the bed. I sighed and sat up against the wall. "What is there to talk about? I did nothing wrong." I looked at him emotionless. "Well by not talking you're committing obstruction of justice." He said and looked at me empathetically and I rolled my eyes. "You and I both know I'm not as there is no criminal case you need information on. I saved 100 people the other day. That's all it was. You just can't accept the fact that there has been someone with powers living right under your nose all this time." I looked back at him and he blinked a few times before getting up again. "I guess you'll stay here a little longer." He said as he walked out again and nodded at the guards before looking at me one last time and walking away. The guard locked the door again and I laid back down before singing again.
