CHAPTER 42
FAINA STARED OUT AMONG THE MOUNTAIN PEAKS, TEARS DRIED TO HER CHEEKS,
He was supposed to show her so much. Teach her things that her parents never got to. Now he was gone. But she knew she wasn't the last. There was one more to save.
It had grown dark and most had gone to bed.
Geralt had sat next to her, "We can still leave."
Faina shook her head, "No, we have to see it through."
He stared at her face, examining the tears on her cheeks and the shakiness of her breath, "Will you tell me why you're so worked up?"
She kept her eyes on the horizon, "I don't want to be alone anymore."
He reached for her hand, "Faina... you're not alone."
She wiped the tears from her skin before giving him a sad smile, "You're right, I'm not." Faina climbed into his lap and reached for his hair binder, letting his hair flow free,
She wanted to feel something other than heartbreak.
Faina tugged on his hair, bringing his lips down to hers. He grabbed her hips, more tender than he ever had, and let her take control as she ground herself down on his crotch,
"I won't break." She whispered against his lips,
He switched the control, grabbing her and laying her down on the bed of rocks. Faina let out a small gasp as they dug into her back,
"Shhh." He whispered, ghosting his lips down her neck, "Don't wake the dwarves."
Faina let out a small whimper as he tugged on her trousers, pulling it down her hips. He placed one last soft kiss to her lips before flipping her over on all fours.
She bit her lip to keep herself from crying out as Geralt entered her. Faina lowered her upper body, resting on her forearms as Geralt grabbed her hips with a bruising grip and began pounding into her.
Tears fell from her cheeks as Geralt continued. She thought the sex would take her mind off of what had happened to Borch, but now she was just overwhelmed with emotion. Grief, pleasure, all of it.
She felt like she was going to blow.
Geralt grabbed her hair and pulled her upper body off the rocks, leaving her knees to bare all of her weight.
"Please." Faina gasped, her nails digging into his forearm that was wrapped around her waist, underneath her bust.
He kept thrusting into her at a brutal pace as his other hand reached down and flicked at her clit.
Faina let out a cry as she reached her climax, and Geralt's teeth latched onto her shoulder as he followed soon after.
The two paused, trying to catch their breath. Geralt pulled out and Faina fell onto her hands once again, tears running down her cheeks.
He tucked himself back into his trousers before helping Faina with hers, "Are you alright?" He asked, running his hand up and down her back in comfort,
"Mhmm." Faina sat up and wiped her face before he could see. She turned and placed a kiss against his cheek, "Thank you."
He nodded, "Let's find a more comfortable place to sleep."
The two found an area with softer dirt and laid down. Faina placed her head on Geralt's chest and he wrapped an arm around her.
She laid there, eyes open, as Geralt fell into a sleep. But she couldn't. Not when she had this feeling in her chest. This wasn't the grief she was feeling for Borch earlier. This was something else.
It was the dragon.
She was close.
Faina sat up, glancing around the make sure everyone in the group was asleep before giving Geralt one last kiss.
She needed to protect the dragon.
Faina spent the night travelling through the passages, tripping over rocks and twigs, just to get to the cave.
With each step, she could feel the dragon's presence grow stronger.
It had been a long time since she had felt something so pure.
She reached the caves entrance and inside, she could see the glow of the dragon. Once the glow subsided, the green dragon stood, her egg on the ground between her legs,
The dragon let out a large purr upon seeing her. Faina smiled, reaching up to pet her,
"You've found us at last, little dragon." The green dragon spoke, "Don't be shy."
With a grin, Faina shed her clothing. She let out a cry of pain as she fell down to all fours, her bones shifting. Skin turned to pearl white scales, and fingers turned to claws. She began to grow before her true form shined in the fire light,
"Welcome, child." The green dragon greeted, "I am Myrgtabrakke."
"Borch sent me." Faina said as she rubbed up against the green dragon,
She rubbed back, "It has been centuries since I've met a white dragon."
"My people were killed long ago." Faina stated sadly, "I am the last."
"Then we must stick together."
They spent the morning hours speaking to each other, Faina asking questions and Myrgtabrakke answering anything thrown her way.
She never evolved, unlike Faina and Borch. She stayed pure for centuries. Myrgta told tales of her life, how she stayed hidden in the mountains.
It was near midday when Myrgta went to sleep, still recovering from the attack by the villagers. Faina stayed close, watching the green dragon sleep curled up around her egg.
Two figures entered the cave and the white dragon's eyes widened, "You're alive." She stated, staring at Borch's soldiers, and behind them stepped in a beautiful golden dragon,
"I'm a dragon, dear child. It's nearly impossible to kill me." Borch stated, while Téa and Véa bowed, "You're just as beautiful as I imagined." They rubbed up against each other in greeting, "Your Witcher isn't with you?"
She knew Geralt would be awake by now. And he would be concerned. She knew she wouldn't be able to keep her secret for long.
Faina felt another presence enter the cave. The white dragon raised her head to see Jennifer at the mouth of the cave, a dagger in her hand.
The white dragon stood, "Stay where you are, Mage."
"Don't test me, little sun."
Borch's soldiers unsheathed their swords, "Stay where you are!"
"You should've stayed dead." Yennefer growled,
"Stop!" They all turned to see Geralt enter the cave. He paused when he spotted Borch's soldier, "How?"
"Sir Witcher," Borch growled and Faina curled up behind him, trying not to be seen, "Hello again,"
Geralt shook his head, "Impossible."
"When the dragoness was injured, her cry was heard by Villentretenmerth." Téa began,
"But the egg could not be moved or the life inside of it would die." Véa finished,
"That's why the dragon attacked." Geralt assumed,
"She was protecting her baby." Yennefer said,
"And then we heard about the King's hunt, we realised we had to keep our enemies close."
"So I came to find you, the white-haired Witcher," Borch stated, "the knight who was taught to save dragons instead of kill them. And I found much more than I bargained for."
"Where's Faina?" Geralt asked desperately, his eyes glancing over the white dragon's form,
Reavers entered the cave behind them, "Looks like we get to fuck up the whole family. Slay the dragons."
They attacked. As Geralt and Yennefer fought, Faina was not afraid to step on the Reavers or turn them to barbecue.
"Behind me, now." Faina ordered and Geralt stared at her in surprise.
Yennefer dragged the Witcher behind Faina before she let out her dragon breath, turning them all to ash.
Geralt stared up at her, "I don't understand."
"We don't have time." Borch stated, "There are more coming. Go." He told Yennefer and Geralt, "We'll protect the egg."
The humans left the cave, keeping the attackers out. Faina stayed close to Borch, killing anybody who came close to his mate, who was now awake and protecting her egg,
"Geralt!" Faina heard Yennefer call out from outside the cave.
"Go." Borch ordered her, "Go save your mate."
Faina spread her wings and flew out of the hole on top of the cave. From above, she spotted the lead Reaver holding a spear over Geralt's heart.
She dove down and snatched the Reaver from the ground, crushing his body between her jaws. She quickly spat his body out, throwing it down the mountain.
Faina landed on the ground, her eyes searching Geralt's body to make sure he was okay,
He stared up at her, "Don't make me come up there."
Her body began to shrink and break once again. Smoke filled the air before all that was left was Faina's naked body, kneeling on the ground. She wrapped her arms around herself, protecting herself in her vulnerable form.
Yennerfer held out her fur coat, "Here."
Geralt took the coat and wrapped it around Faina. She nodded in thanks.
He brushed her hair away from her face, "We've been travelling together for years and you've never..."
Tears filled her eyes, "How was I to know you wouldn't see me as a monster too?"
