CHAPTER 36
FAINA GASPED AS GERALT POURED COLD WATER FROM THE RIVER OVER HER HEAD.
Geralt brought them back to the river where the djinn was trapped in to clean the blood off of her and rest. Night was falling and they he didn't want to travel in the dark with her in that condition.
"It's too cold." Faina mumbled, huddling closer to Geralt's chest as he wiped the blood from her skin,
"You told Jaskier to grab me and run." Geralt growled,
Faina moved to sit up, "She held a dagger to my chest, I thought it was over. I thought the least I could do was make sure you and Jaskier got out safely."
He brushed her wet hair away from her face, "You should have known I would come back for you."
She stepped back, "Why are we even talking about this? It's over."
"It's not over until that mage is dead." Geralt stated,
"She won't mess with us anymore, Geralt. It is over." Faina moved to exit the river but Geralt pulled her back,
"There's something you're not telling me." He grunted,
She shook her head, "She was going to sacrifice me to the djinn, there's nothing more." Faina stared into his golden eyes, "I have no reason to keep anything from you."
Geralt lifted her and laid the white haired woman down in the grass next to the river. Faina gasped his name as he entered her.
"Sh." Geralt covered her mouth with his hand, "Do you want the bard to interrupt us?"
"Better make this quick then." Faina smirked as he removed his hand,
"Is that a challenge?"
Once satisfied, Geralt covered her with his cloak and led her back to the camp site. Jaskier sat against a tree, playing with his instrument,
"About time you come back. I was about to send out a search party." Jaskier joked,
Faina rolled her eyes and went over to her horse, searching the saddle bags for some clothes. She found a pair of trousers, but no tunic, "Shit." She must've left her last one back in Rinde.
Geralt handed her one of his own and she thanked him before slipping his cloak off. He stared at the cuts on her abdomen, anger boiling in his stomach. She caught his stare and slide the tunic on, "I'm fine, Geralt."
He let out a grunt before moving to sit by the fire. She ignored the looks from both men as she pulled on her trousers and tucked the tunic in.
Faina moved to sit next to the white haired Witcher. Geralt held a bag of jerky out to her and she took it, taking a bite before leaning her head on his arm, "So where to next?" Faina asked,
"We need coin." Geralt stated,
The woman hummed, "We should follow the river. There's bound to be a river monster terrorising a village."
Geralt nodded, "Agreed."
The next morning, the trio set off to the east, following the Pontar River. For weeks they traveled, stopping in villages and offering their services. It wasn't long before they made it to Murivel, one of the larger towns along the river.
They found a place to sleep and eat, and Faina was starting to feel better. The farther they got from the mage, the better.
Jaskier was performing in the pub while Faina and Geralt sat in the corner, drinking their ale. She felt the eyes of many patrons on them and knew that they felt uneasy with their presence.
"You're the White Wolf, aren't you?" Two men asked, walking over to their table,
Geralt eyed him, "What about it?"
"I have a job for you."
The two glanced at each other, Faina shrugging. Geralt sighed before turning back to the man, "With what?"
The men explained the monster that hid in a cave in the base of the mountains in the north. The flying monster had come out of its' home to attack their livestock and poisoned them.
To Faina, it sounded like a basilisk. But why it was this far south, she didn't know.
They planned to follow the men the next morning to the creature's cave and agreed on a fee of 250 crowns.
The couple left Jaskier to his performance and retired early to their room. Faina had put out a few of the candles when she felt hands gripping her hips.
"Geralt." She moaned as he brushed her hair away from her shoulder and placed his lips on her neck, "We need to rest for tomorrow."
He sat down on the bed and turned her around. She moved to stand between his open thighs and ran her fingers over his shoulders,
"I'm not tired yet." He smirked up at her, "But I know something that can tire us out quickly."
Faina smiled and rolled her eyes, "You're insatiable, aren't you?"
He raised an eyebrow, "Only when it comes to you." Geralt lifted her tunic from her torso, throwing it onto the floor before placing his lips gently against the cuts from the mage that had begun to scar over.
The white haired woman pushed him back against the bed and climbed up to straddle his waist. She leaned down, her hair creating a curtain as she brushed her lips against his,
"Perhaps..." She whispered against his skin as she trailed kisses down his neck, "You'll get a reward after killing the basilisk tomorrow."
Faina quickly climbed off and Geralt laid there for a moment before scoffing, "Really?"
"We need the energy. Basilisks are poisonous." Faina commented, reaching for her tunic and pulling it on before removing her leather trousers, "And afterwards we can put the remaining adrenaline to good use." She winked at the Witcher before getting under the covers,
