CHAPTER 26
ODO URGED THEM INSIDE HIS HOME ONCE THEY REACHED HIS FENCE,
Faina watched him carefully has he swayed side to side. He was clearly drunk, "I'm not sure I trust you. You could be spies."
"Why would we be spies-" Geralt stepped on her foot and she hissed,
"Have a drink with me, Master Geralt, we all know spies don't drink." Odo said,
Geralt and Faina glanced at each other, "Let's drink then."
They moved over to his dining room table, where many bottle of booze laid. Odo inspected him as Geralt guzzled the bottle in his hand. Faina took a sip of her drink, not wanting to be intoxicated when they do their job. She winced as the liquid burned her throat. Whatever it was, it was strong.
"I have this gardening problem." Odo stated, handing him another bottle,
Faina narrowed her eyes. This man brought them all the way out here to pull some weeds?
Geralt took another drink, "I'm no gardner."
"No, no, let me finish." Odo laughed, drinking more of his alcohol, "Some time ago, strange plants erupted in my garden. These plants, they're alive!"
"Aren't they supposed to be?" Faina muttered and Geralt elbowed her. She glared up at him,
"Let me speak." Odo urged, "They used to be useful at first, eating moles and insects."
"Then what's the problem?" Geralt asked,
"Now they're as big as a man with giant branches, luckily they're buried underground during the daytime, but I'm afraid to go near them."
"I'll see what we can do for 120 orens." Geralt smirked,
"Okay, 50 orens. Let's drink to that." The two downed their bottles and Odo handed him another one,
"Geralt, you should ease up on that." Faina muttered,
"I can handle it." He growled in her ear, causing her to shiver,
"120, no more, no less." Geralt responded,
"Two weeds for 70 orens."
"I said 120." Geralt stated,
"I need to live! To drink! My final offer is 80." He held up his bottle, "Cheers." The two clinked them together before drinking more of the alcohol,
Faina saw the glazed over look in Geralt's eyes. He was intoxicated.
"Strong stuff." Geralt muttered, setting down the bottle, "How about 100?"
"Deal! One last shot, good sir." The two finished the bottles and tossed them aside,
Geralt patted her shoulder, "C'mon, we have weeds to deal with."
Faina stood up and watched as Geralt slowly walked to the door, stumbling slightly, "Geralt, is this a good idea? You don't seem-"
"I'm fine." He growled as they stepped out the door.
Outside, multiple plants popped out of the ground. Their stems were purple and at the end was a flower... with teeth. Faina took out her sword, "Fine. Don't blame me if you get swallowed whole."
She twirled around the plant, dodging its attacks. She swung at the stem, trying to cut it down. The plant creature smacked her sword from her hand. Faina reached out with her hand, grabbing the stem and burning it.
The plant screeched and while it was distracted, Faina rolled over to reach her sword and with one last swipe, the creature was killed.
Faina looked over at Geralt, who was struggling to land a blow to his plant monster. It unarmed him and went to attacked,
"Geralt!"
She tackled him to the ground, narrowly missing the jaws of the plant monster. Faina flipped over onto her back and reached for her dagger. When the plant creature attacked, she jabbed her dagger into its mouth, kitting it instantly.
The two panted, laying on their back. Faina glared over at her partner, "What's wrong with you?" She scoffed before standing up.
Another plant creature popped out of the ground and Faina lifted her sword before slicing off the flower bud and catching it.
She stomped inside, throwing the flower bud on the dining table where Odo was still drinking,
"Ah! That was fast. Here's your 80 orens." He stood and went to grab the coin,
Faina narrowed her eyes, "We agreed on 100."
"We drank some ale, but my memory rarely deceives me." Odo swayed,
Faina stalked forward and pinned him to the wall, "You got a Witcher drunk, risking his life, and now you're trying to take advantage of him? Think again, merchant." She growled, her eyes glowing,
Odo stared at her in fear, "Fine! Fine! Here's you 100 oren."
She grabbed the sack, "Maybe you should work on your drinking problem."
Faina stomped back outside, where Geralt stood by the door, still swaying slightly. She shoved the bag of coin in his pack before helping him onto Roach. She climbed on in front of him and took the reins, "C'mon, girl."
"Thank you." Geralt mumbled into her hair,
"Just... don't, Geralt. Just work on sobering up before we reach Rozrog." She sighed as they made their way towards the village.
Once they arrived at the inn, Faina led Geralt in, holding both of their packs.
"Ah, my monster hunters have returned! Come, sit, let's enjoy a drink and tell me of your conquest." Jaskier smiled, his arms over various women,
"No drinks." Faina tossed him the bag of coin, "Room key?"
Jaskier handed her one, "There were only two rooms available. I took the liberty of having my own-"
Faina let out a frustrated groan before leading the large, intoxicated, man up the stairs, not letting Jaskier finish.
"You're mad." Geralt mumbled as Faina dropped her sack off in the corner of the room,
"Of course I'm mad." She sighed, "You got drunk, and for what? You could've gotten yourself killed if I wasn't there."
"I know... I'm... I'm sorry." He stated,
Faina paused. Geralt wasn't one to apologise.
"It's fine, Geralt. Just go to sleep." Faina moved to her bed and pulled back the covers. She sat down and began removing her boots.
"Shit." She glanced up, watching as Geralt struggled to untie his trousers.
Faina stood and walked over to him, "Let me help." He removed his hands, returning them to his side as she untied and loosened his trousers.
She led him over to his bed and bent down, untying his boots before removing them. He kept his intense gaze on her, observing her movements.
Once the boots were off, she stood and grabbed the hem of his tunic, lifting over his torso. He lifted his arms and she pulled it off.
He reached up, running his fingers over her skin,
"Geralt, you're drunk." Faina whispered,
"That doesn't change the way I see you." He muttered, reaching for her tunic.
She bit her lip and slowly removed his hands, "Sleep."
He laid down and she covered him with the blanket. His amber eyes followed her as she went over to her own bed, "I missed you." He muttered,
Faina gave him a small smile, "I've missed you, too, Geralt."
