7 The Village of Hogsmead

POV Elsa

“Finally a free weekend!” Anna squealed in excitement when we were walking towards Hogsmead which is a small village near Hogwarts, the school of magic. “I really love the colors of fall!” Punzie looked around her. I really had to agree with her, the leaves were colored in red and orange shades.

WHOOMP.

We had to jump back when something flew from in front of us, hitting against the tree and making the leaves fall down. “Flynn?” Punzie gasped when she saw that Flynn was laying on the ground unconscious.

A whirlwind was gathering on other direction and I looked at the sight. I saw Jack Frost walking towards us, gritting his teeth and rolling his sleeves up. He held his wand in fighting position. For my horror I saw how his eyes turned to blue momentarily many times. He is using his Winter Spirit powers.

“Take it back!” Jack yelled and pointed at Flynn. Punzie was kneeling next to Flynn who was her partner in the classes. “Take what back?” Punzie looked first at Jack and then Flynn who wiped a stain of blood from his chin. “I just said that your mother--,” Flynn got cutt off when Jack send a spell towards Flynn. Flynn grunted when his body hit against the tree.

Anna run between them, “Stop it! This is stupid!” She demanded both of them to stop. “Get away,” Jack hissed and pointed at Anna with his wand. “Watch out!” I yelled and pushed Anna away. It was the limb locking spell and I fell to ground. I couldn’t move a muscle.

“Serves you right,” Jack said while he stepped over me and I felt angry. Anna hurried to kneel next to me. “What is wrong with you! What could be so bad that you would react like this!” Punzie looked at Jack. I saw the ground frosting under him. “Jack!” I yelled so hard that I possibly could.

I saw Jack turning around, “WHAT!” He yelled at me with fury in his eyes. Oh god, his eyes turned to blue now. ‘Your eyes Jack’ I spoke to him with my lips. He frowned and walked to me. Anna had already ran to Punzie to help her to protect Flynn.

Jack kneeled in front of me, “Did you try to say something? Ice girl?” He stared at me and I pulled him closer from his shirt. “You’re turning back to Spirit,” I whispered and I felt him startle. Suddenly he lifted a hood to cover his head and he ran away.

“Chicken!” Flynn yelled after Jack. Jack didn’t turn around. The effect from the spell faded away and I was able to sit. “What did you say to him?” I sighed to Flynn who was wiping sweat from his forehead. “I said that his mother must have been a muggle as well as his family since he isn’t talking anyone,” Flynn shrug his shoulders.

I looked at the direction where Jack storm off. “I will come with you next time,” I smiled to others and waved my hand. I went back to the school grounds and then I found the tree. Here he usually is laying down in the grass.

After going around the big tree I saw him, just as I predicted. He had a potion bottle next to him and I saw him flinching in pain, gritting his teeth and clenching his hands which made him pull grass lumps from the ground. “H-hey?” I whispered and I saw him opening his eyes, panting and staring at me. Now his eyes were back to brown.

“Does it hurt so much?” I nodded towards the potion that I assumed being the one to change looks. He quickly wiped some cold sweat from his forehead. “How long did you stand there?” He hissed to me and stared at the ground. “Long enough,” I said while I sat next to him. He flinched when our legs touched.

He was clenching his wand between his hands. “Why are you still there?” He glared now at me, his brown eyes were piercing looking. “I was worried about you, he shouldn’t have said that,” I said carefully to him and he hummed. “Nice try ice girl,” he had a sly smirk.

“What try?” I said quickly. “Trying to be friendly,” he stood up and wiped his clothes with his hand, there were some leftovers from the grass that he accidentally pulled out from the ground. “I would like us to be friends, I mean we all need at least one,” I smiled to him but he stared at me like my words would have been poison. “That will never happen,” he said blankly. “What if I as your master will order you?” I cocked my eyebrow and suddenly his determined and headstrong attitude wiped off.

He was vulnerable looking. “No, please.. nothing like that, I am not me if you force me into stuff by using your power of being in control over me,” he whispered. A sting of quilt pierced my heart, Jack kept staring at me and I saw how his breathe fastened. “I will not  but..” I smirked to him and he gulped.

“Be my teacher Jack,” I said with sound of being proud.  I stood up and stared him in the eyes, he looked me from my head to toe and back again. “With what to be exact?” He crossed his arms. “Controlling my powers,” I said and he chuckled. “Nah, I won’t,” he laughed and turned around. “I order you!” I snapped, I really need to know more about him. I am still not sure if he works for You-know-who or not.

Slowly Jack turned around, his eyes were wide, “Did I just heard it correctly? You order me to teach you?” I nodded to him and he sighed. “Fine but do as I say,” he said and walked fast towards me. I took a step back but I hit my back against the tree trunk. His hand grasped my wrist and he pulled my hand in front of him. His eyes were keenly staring at my palm and with his other hands finger he brushed the surface.

“W-what are you doing?” I gasped when I watched him. He gave me a sly smirk before his left hand pressed on my chest and his right hand went to my forehead. He closed his eyes and I saw how his body glowing. The hair on his head turned to white and when he opened his eyes I saw his cyan blue eyes. My heart just fluttered for few moments.

“You’re holding it back,” he said suddenly and startled me. I sighed, “Of course or I would hurt someone.” He shook his head, “That is not the right way. Accept yourself and the power you are holding, it is the first step towards control.” He walked behind of me and I felt his body against mine when his arms came around me. “W-what are you doing?” I gasped.

He chuckled, “You wanted me to teach you?” His hand went to my hands and he made me move my hands in the air, like I was doing a circle. When I was wondering why I saw how powers of winter were forming between our hands. “Oh no, no,” I whispered in panic. “Just calm down and watch,” he whispered to my ear when he leaned his chin on my shoulder.

I was nearly panting when I saw a snowball being created. “We are doing this?” Now I felt hopeful, perhaps I could actually get control over my powers. “You are the one who is doing it,” Jack said while he let go off me and backed up. Panic was reaching me, what if I screw up.

“Umm.. Jack,” I begged him when I was losing control. “You’re doing great,” he told me. The coldness was now spreading from me, ground is freezing. “Help!” I yelled in panic when ice spikes appeared from the ground. Jack sighed, “Being afraid won’t help.”

“Please,” I begged once again and for my relief he walked in front of me and stopped my powers. “Lesson one is now finished, next we well learn a few things about you loving your powers before we can continue with you using them,” I saw him grinning mischievously and my cheeks turn red.

He took the potion bottle with him when he was about to leave. “Stop!” I yelled after him, he turned around holding the bottle. “What now?” He exhaled. “I want to see when you change your looks, it is something I would really want to,” I clenched my hands into fists. I hope that he will let me.

I saw how he gritted his teeth angrily and then he took a sip from the bottle. Now I realized that I had ordered him. The bottle fell from his hands as he fell to his knees, holding his stomach. His breathing was shallow and fast. He didn’t yell aloud since he muffled himself by pressing his hand over his mouth. His eyes were wide when he glared at me. Then his eyes rolled into back of his skull and he fell to lay on the ground.

“J-Jack?” I whispered when I went to him. His hair was now brown and he was laying there his face towards the ground. I turned him around and wiped the hair away from his face. Gladly he was breathing.

“Mmmh..” Jack was now waking up. “I am sorry”, I whispered when he started to sit and rub his head. “Oh.. It just isn’t easy to change looks,” Jack shrugged his shoulders when he stood up. His balance went off for a bit and I lend him my shoulder. “Why you changed into spirit?” I asked him.

He hummed, “When I use a large amount of my spirit power the potions effect wears off. It kind of sucks.” I saw how he raised his other eyebrow and gave me a playful looking smirk. “By the way, when you are better with your powers I want a duel,” he laughed and my eyes widened. A duel?

“No way!” I crossed my hands. “As you say, master,” he mocked at me and jerked his head to right. “Anyway I must go now,” he walked back towards the castle. “You’re not going to Hogsmead anymore?” I yelled after him. “NO!” He yelled back to me.

I shrug my shoulders and I ran to the direction where Hogsmead is. Maybe I could reach the others and go to the best candy shop in the whole world. I always visit there when I go to Hogsmead, there are the best chocolates.

On the horizon I suddenly see smoke. It is coming from Hogsmead. “JACK!” I yelled and  I heard a loud groan. “What now ice girl, you want your pet to carry you?” He snapped at me. “No! Look!” I yelled and I heard him walking to me.

“Is it burning?” I whispered to him and he nodded while standing next to me. “Anna is there!” I gasped and my whole consciousness was filled with images of my friends trapped in the middle of flames. “Who is Anna?” Jack interrupted my thoughts. “My sister! She was the one who tried to help you out earlier this year!” I slapped him to his shoulder and he startled to my sudden reaction.

“Chill out!” He exhaled and nodded towards Hogsmead, “Don’t you think that we should go there? Check on your friends?” He was right, why am I still standing here. I ran as fast as I could, Jack was running next to me. “There is a faster way,” He lifted me up suddenly and told me to wrap my arms around his neck. I felt how the ground vanished from beneath of me. We were flying. “J-Jack?” I gulped and looked at the ground which was moving fast beneath us.

Then I looked at him. His eyes were flashing from brown to blue and back again.  “I swear that Hiccup really needs to get a grip from his dragons or,” Jack mumbled to himself. It felt weird when he carried me in his arms. I mean he could have gone by himself. His skin felt cool and he held me tightly.

When we arrived to Hogsmead I realized that the ones to blame weren’t dragons. Whole village was burning, the flames were rising high to sky. People were screaming and running, some of them hiding. I saw the dark mark in the sky having a green glow around the edges.

“You-know-who’s minions,” Jack whispered and took out his wand. He didn’t change to spirit this time, his eyes remained brown when we landed. “Watch out!” Jack yelled and turned around, going in front of me. When I turned around I saw him doing unarming spell to a wizard who wore black from head to toe. He was one of the You-know-who's minion.

Jack managed to knock down the wizard and then he glared at me, “What are you waiting for! Find your friends and get the hell out from here!” He gritted his teeth and ran towards other workers of You-know-who’s, his movement was smooth and fast when he set out a series of spells.

The heat from the flames was horrible, I felt sick from the smoke and my eyes were hurting while I walked on the streets. I tried to cover my face and yell after Anna and Punzie. “We are here!” I heard Anna yelling from my left and soon I saw her with Punzie.

“What happened in here?” I yelled to her. The sound of burning log houses cracking was loud. “They just appeared from nowhere! They tried to abduct some people but then some of the grownups put out a fight!” Anna gasped. “Yeah, it was crazy and now they lit up the whole village!” Punzie looked around her, being alert to possible threat.

Two wizards suddenly walked across our path and grinned to us. “Are you going somewhere, girls?” The man laughed. A chubby looking woman pushed him while laughing, “Of course they are, Hook.” The man called Hook widened his grin and clenched his hand which held a wand that looked like metal. “It seems so, Ursula,” Hook pointed his wand towards us and was about to do a spell when my powers went out of control. I was scared that he might hurt Anna.

Hook and Ursula seemed surprised when they had to avoid a hit from flying icicles. Then they seemed happy, so happy that it creeps me out. “I guess that we found what You-know-who is looking for. A blonde with powers of ice and snow,” Ursula said and Hook nodded. They were walking towards me, I barely managed to avoid the limp locking spell.

Anna and Punzie tried to stop them but they got knocked out by sleeping spell. I was all alone now. I held my wand and tried to protect myself. All for nothing, they were too fast. I closed my eyes and then I felt how Hook’s skinny hand wrapped around my arm, it hurt when he squeezed.

“Hey!” I heard a yell which made me open my eyes immediately. Jack was there, pulling the man called Hook away from me. He wasn’t using his spells, he was talking with his fists. They couldn’t hit Jack with their spells, he was fast and seemed to be random in his moves.

Someone whistled and the wizards who Jack was fighting with left a trail of smoke. I couldn’t see where they went. They had disappeared when the smoke vanished. There was only Jack, looking at me with a worried look.

“Why are you staring at me?” I gasped, maybe he is trying to be clever again. “Sorry,” he said which was odd. “Why are you sorry for? You just freaking helped me out!” I snapped at him, it was really embarrassing to need someone else’s help. “Now they think that you’re me,” he whispered. “Wait WHAT?!? Do I look like a guy to you!” I yelled at him, my voice was high and I almost hit him with my hand which waved in the air angrily.

“Not a guy, they don’t know much about me. Just that I am the child of Aria Frost, the half spirit who has powers of winter. They think that you’re me, “ he stared at the ground, his eyes moved nervously and his breathing fastened by every second. “Agh! This is why I avoid people!” He yelled and he looked somehow scary when the flames from nearby building gave light to his figure.

“They are after you?” I whispered and he nodded. “Yeah, for years. That is the reason for me hiding my appearance and my powers, I don’t have people close to me so I cannot be blackmailed,” he stared at me now. Feeling bad for him, that is how I feel now.

He lifted his head, “Time to do something about this fire.” I felt how he gathered the wind and I knew that he would use his winter powers soon. “Stop!” I yelled and he glanced at me, slowly placing his arms on his side. “What not?” He said angrily.

“I will do it,” I said. “It is better if they believe that I am the spirit, not you. They might be watching still,” I smiled to him and went in front of him. Oh god, what am I doing. Can I control it? What if whole Hogsmead ends up frozen eternally since I am bad at this?

“You will be fine,” he said. He broke my broken record of misbelieve towards myself. “Remember to believe in yourself, love the powers you’ve got and have some fun,” he whispered to my ear. It caused me to shiver, his breathe was cooling and so was his body in the middle of the hot flame sea. “Keeping your powers at the minimum was the reason why the potion wore off, I can’t do it for long so now you’re on your own,” he whispered again. I  had to swallow the lump from my throat.

I closed my eyes and inhaled deeply, I pointed at a house that was burning wildly. “You can do it,” his hand touched my shoulder. I let go. I let my powers go. “See!” He laughed happily and I peeked with my right eye. The snow that I tried to create was there, just the right amount and it put out the flames. I cried from happiness. I did it.

I jumped onto his neck. “Thank you, thank you!” I hugged him tightly and he grunted. What am I doing?! Quickly I backed up from him and I wiped some imaginary dust from my skirt. “S-sorry about that, I got excited,” I smiled and I felt blush on my cheeks. He didn’t show much of a reaction, he nodded behind of me. “You know that the village is on fire, don’t you?” He chuckled and placed his hands on his pockets.

My eyes widened, the village. I had an idea.

STOMP.

I hit my foot on the ground. It started to freeze, then I waved my right hand on the air in circles. A crystallized enormous snowflake appeared in the sky and it destroyed the dark mark. The sky immediately brightened. Jack seemed to be amazed, his jaw drop. Then I spread my arms to my sides and the crystal snowflake exploded on the sky. It started to rain snow that put off rest of the flames. Jack let out a muffled, “Oh.” I felt quite good about myself right now.

“Here!” I heard a voice yelling at the sky. Some people were flying to the village with their brooms. They landed in front of us. “What on earth happened?” A female wizard asked from us, pointing at the smoke that was still rising from the houses that were just put off from the flames. “You-know-who happened,” Jack shrug his shoulders.

“That can’t be! There haven’t been a sight of him for years!” A male wizard spoke. “Am I right Jasmine?” The male wizard asked from the woman. “That is right Aladdin,” Jasmine responded to him. “We are from the Ministry of Magic, we need an actual explanation to the burning village,” Jasmine looked at us with serious gaze.

I tried to speak but Jack stopped me. “Well, someone was playing with a firecracker or you could just ask from anyone else. They would tell you that it is You-kno-who who we are dealing with,” Jack smiled deviously and grabbed my arm, he was guiding me away. Ministers Aladdin and Jasmine were left standing there. When I glanced over my shoulder I saw them questioning other people from the village.

“Take care of your friends,” Jack stopped walking and let go of me. I saw Anna and Punzie still sleeping on the ground. I kneeled next to them, “Anna! Punzie! You’re alive! Thank you!” Jack sighed, “Oh for goblin’s sake do a waking up spell already.”

Quickly I took out my wand and did the spell. Anna opened her eyes slowly, “W-what happened?” I shook my head, “Everything is alright now, the You-know-who’s minions retreated.” I hugged her tightly. Punzie was yawning and stretching herself. “Thank you Ja--,” I looked over my shoulder but he was already far away, walking towards Hogwarts. I sighed.

“Who were you talking to?” Anna sit on the ground now. “No one,” I whispered. I think that I need to speak with him again. I need to know more about You-know-who and his connection with him.
