2 Magical Creatures
POV Hiccup
Knock. Knock.
Someone just knocked my door and I threw away my sweet ass apron that protects my clothes when I handle the muggle equipment. Yeah, I am one of the people who actually know how to use tools that non wizards use in the muggle world. However my biggest lack is that I cannot do magic even though my mother was a witch and my father is a wizard. Both of them were good ones. I am not, other wizards might call me squib. I am a person who cannot use magic even though he has magic in his blood. Stupid.
"Wait! I am coming right up!" I yelled to the knocker. Maybe it is Jack at this hour? I watch at the clock and it is midnight. He always comes to chat at this hour if he comes. It depends in what place the moon is that night or how the earth spins around. Yeah, he is unpredictable.
I opened the door and I saw nothing, I look down and I see a big box. It was a hard one to pull inside, heavy and too big in every direction. I opened it and there were things that looked like smooth rocks. One of them was black as night with blue glow and others were white with blue stripes, green and there was a brown one. So, there are four weird looking rocks in one box. I touched the surface of the black rock and it felt warm. Are these actually something else? Something super cool and special?
I knocked once the black one and then I leaned my head against the surface. I listened. Something sure was moving inside! "DRAGON EGGS!" I yelled in excitement and I danced around the room. But who had left them? Ah! No matter, I will take care of these babies anyway. I just need to do some sort of hatchery and then..
Someone just tapped my shoulder, "Why are you dancing around and grinning so weirdly?" I turn around and I see Jack. "Whoa! Dude! When did you sneak behind of me?" He chuckled, "Just like few seconds ago to see your show." I push him, "Never do that again! Oh, look at my babies!" I spread my hands and show him the eggs.
"Nice," he says arrogantly, "What those are exactly?" I sigh, "Dragon eggs. They are dragon eggs, can't you tell?" He cocked his eyebrow, "Really now?" He sat on my sofa. "Hey, when you teach us tomorrow some magical creatures stuff mind not pairing the class up? I hate that they're doing that in school now," he leans to his hand as he watches the moon outside.
I rub my neck, "About that.. Can't do that because it was an order from principle Mr. North." He straightened his back, "Nothing to be done, huh?" I shook my head, "No." He stood up, "Well then, I must be going." He waved his hand as he walked outside.
I have known him from his first day. He is a cold and lone person, many say that he is actually evil and will turn his back to goodness after finishing school and being educated about the magic. When the sorting hat stayed quiet in the ceremony when it was placed on my head everyone laughed. They knew that I won't fit to do magic since I do not have it. Sorting hat knew it since it told me that I should focus on other things. When many people mocked me when I walked to corridor he placed his hand over my shoulder for few seconds and told me that I shouldn't care about others. Then there was a girl being selected to Ravenclaw and after that it was his turn.
We are friends, at least sort of. He tells me stuff about his school but he never told me why sometimes his body was all bruised. Sometimes his packets are delivered to my place and I hand them to him. Mr. North was a nice person since he let me stay near the school in this cabin so I could make friends and when he found about my thirst for knowledge and love to magical creatures he made me be the new magical creatures teacher. I was at age of 14 when I started my job.
The next morning I would be giving lessons to Slytherin and Ravenclaw. My students are the ones who laughed at me back then but many of them are really bad with my magical creatures. Sometimes it is really fun to follow and tomorrow will be a field trip day, a perfect way to see if they have improved at all during summer.
POV Elsa
I watch to my right and Astrid seems really excited, she loves the magical creature lessons. "So! I wonder what creatures we will see today! I mean it is our first lessons and already field trip!" She laughs and her eyes shine. I chuckle to her, "Something cool if we consider who is teaching." Before Hiccup Haddock took over the lessons we were just reading stuff from books, he changed it.
When we walked to a small field near Hiccup's cabin I saw them. There were thestrals, the winged skeletal horses. "Oh," I exhaled. "What?" Astrid looks at me, she can't see those weird looking things. "N-nothing," I whisper.
After everyone had arrived Hiccup was walking in front of us. "So class, let's get down to business. Who have witnessed death?" He looked at us and raised his hand. Some hands raised from his students and I lifted my shaking hand. "Good for the class but not for you," Hiccup laughed nervously. "SO! This class is about Thestrals. The breed of winged horse that looks kind of ugly but sweet at the same time with bat wings and sorts," he chuckled. "Check out if your partner from previous classes can see them, keep your hands up! If you or your partner both cannot see them you should mix," he walked around us when people got organized.
Jack wasn't holding his hand up, he was standing and staring at the ground. I went to him. I heard Hiccup clearing his throat and I looked at him. "Next you should get the thestral and help your partner to pet it and feel how it feels like," Hiccup smiles. I glanced at Jack quickly before I went to a thestral. I saw steam coming out from its nose, I swallowed before I grabbed the rope that was tied around its neck. I went to Jack.
"Now take your partner's hands and let them feel the thestral, explain what they're feeling. Is it wings or something else," Hiccup said and then I saw Astrid going to him. "My partner was sick and I can't see," Astrid whispered and Hiccup nodded. "Well, for your relief I can see them and can help you with that," I looked at Astrid who smiled. Hiccup took a hold of Astrid's wrists and he placed her hands on the thestral, explaining its features.
I look at Jack's hands and I bite my lower lip. Slowly I reach to his wrist and my hand is shaking from the insecure feeling, He glares at me immediately when my fingers touch his wrist. "What do you think you're doing?" My cheeks blush, "H-Hiccup told us to help -," I started but he interrupted with a loud sigh.
He shook my hand off and I saw how his hand went to pat the thestrals head. "You can really see them?" I gasp and he nods. "Why didn't you raise your hand?" I look at him and he stays silent. "I don't want people to know about my past," he says shortly.
For my amazement the thestrals suddenly spread their wings and started to fly away, "W-why?" I looked after them. Jack took out his wand when he watched at the sky. It was coming dark. "Everyone quickly to the cabin!" Hiccup yelled as a swirling wind blew above us. Storm was forming up and the trees bended in the wind. Some of them even snapped from the middle. We ran to Hiccup's cabin and we locked the door.
"What was that!" A student from Slytherin yelled. "Storm makers," Jack whispered as he clutched his wand. I look at him, "What?" He turns around, "The storm makers are here, they breach the magical barriers and support he-who-must-not-be-named." He narrows his eyes as he points outside, "They are horrible and dangerous creatures, if their wind and electric storms won't finish you off they can claw you to death," he opened the door. "I have seen them before, I will lead them away if you get help from the teachers," he ran outside and we all were frozen solid. I see how he sends spells towards a tornado that has lightning bolts coming from it.
Astrid runs outside, she is going towards the castle. There are three storm makers, their skin is shining grey and it is wrinkled, their nails are like claws and they're hairless. They're wearing brown rags to cover themselves. Jack is avoiding their strikes and casting more enchantments. Suddenly a blast of wind knocks him down. He can't do it alone, soon we all would be in trouble. I shoot a spell to knock down one of the storm makers. I did it, one of them flew against a tree.
Jack is panting on the ground and his eyes widen when he sees me. "Idiot! Go away! This has nothing to do with you!" He gasps and I see how the other two storm makers look at me. They show their yellow, sharp teeth and their laughter is like creaking. I back up as I see lightning strikes closing to me.
A flash.
It was all I could see. When I opened my eyes I saw that Jack was in front of me, his eyes open wide and his mouth opened in an 'o'. His chin was quivering and some smoke was slowly coming to air from his back. Then I realized that he had just protected me with his body, he had taken the lightning strike on his back. He fell to his knees and I whimpered.
His head fell against his chest. The storm makers laughed with satisfaction. "Just a moment," he said with rough voice and he was holding his hand in the air and front finger up. Then he lifted his face and he smirked, he turned around and I saw how the fabric had burned away. His skin however was intact. How could he survive from that kind of force, electric, with so little damage?
I felt cold air around us. Then I saw an unusual spell, Jack released a blast of ice and cold air that caused the storm makers to hit against the trees of the forest. Jack was panting after that. I heard spells being yelled, I turned around and I saw principle Mr. North walking towards us with his wand lifted up and pointing at the threat. He was joined with teachers Sandy and Toothiana, even Bunnymund came. We were saved.
"Thank you Jack," I whisper to him when he is catching his breath. "I don't know how you did that but-," he just lifted his hand up to show me to be quiet. "I am still angry that you came in my way, to slow me down," he glared at me. "And don't even consider us friends," he said coldly while he stood up and limped back to castle.
Mr.North sighed in relief, "I am so happy to see everyone alright! Rest of the day is free." When we walked back to castle people were chatting a lot, some were excited and some nervous, even terrified. Ariel told Astrid that Jack protected me and it was the rest of the days subject number one.
"I wonder if he actually likes you," Ariel said happily. I shook my head, "I hate him and he hates me. Why else would he be like that?" I sighed, "Besides he might be a wolf in lambs clothes."Ariel and Astrid nodded, they agreed on the fact that he loved being alone and the reason might be the fact that he plans to be one of he-who-must-not-be-named's evil doers. I mean he loves the fighting against dark arts classes more than anything.
We went to our normal spot to lay on the grass and I could smell the autumn coming already. Jack was again leaning at the same tree as yesterday. He was reading again. "Are you sure that there is nothing going on between you two?" Astrid pushed me from my shoulder and laughed. My cheeks burned up, "There is nothing going on! I just think that there is something odd about him." Ariel and Astrid burst into laughter, "Of course, no one knows anything about him!"
At the evening I still stay awake and I sat in our house's living room. I am looking at the flames of the fireplace that are calming me, making my head feeling dizzy. I am still curious to know that how he cured his back so quickly and why he had seen those storm makers before. How did he do that odd spell of wind and ice? I fell asleep on the sofa when I got myself tired because all of my thinking work. My back was soar on the next morning when Ariel woke me up.
