14: La Familia.

I was still overwhelmed when Benito came out of his dressing room. Laura and Carla didn't shut up about how they had been right and how they had screamed their lunges out in our booth. I was standing next to my two friends, still brushing away a tear every now and then.

"How fast can you pack a bag?" Benito asked me, when he approached the three of us.

"Uh, depends on what the bag is for and if I have help." I responded. Laura chuckled and shook her head.

"What do you think about a vacation?" he then wanted to know, grabbing my hand.

"I would have to take some days off from work, so I don't have to go to the office for the meetings." I gave back.

"Already done." he told me. I looked at him in disbelief.

"How?" I asked.

"I called your boss and told him what I wanted to do, he said you can attend the meetings online." Benito responded and shrugged. I started shaking my head. This day was only getting better. The longer I was with Benito, the more I got used to the fact that he had unlimited options to spoil me and that he would do it every chance he got.

"We should get going, Laura and Carla are gonna help you pack." Benito said, starting to move towards the exit. Since he was holding my hand, he was dragging me with him.

"You knew about this?" I asked the two girls who were following us. Laura smirked and winked at me while Carla just nodded.

"I hope you didn't drink anything because you're driving." Benito said, fumbling around in his pocket. When he had found what he had been looking for, he pulled it out. Very familiar car keys came to my view.

"You rented the Audi again?" I asked, when he handed them to me.

"I didn't rent it." he gave back as we reached the exit. The car was parked directly in front of the door and there was a big bow on the engine hood.

"No, Benito, you didn't!" I exclaimed in disbelief.

"You didn't receive a present yet, so here you go." he responded like it was nothing. I stopped walking and felt myself tear up again. Benito, still holding my hand, chuckled and pulled me into a hug.

I had pulled the biggest suitcase I owned out of my closet. Benito was sitting on my bed while Laura and Carla were going through my clothes. I was looking through my bikini drawer. Since I only had very basic ones, I got frustrated.

"Babe, can you help me?" I asked Benito, then sighed and put all of my bikinis on the floor. At first, he just stared at me and smiled but then he nodded. He got up from my bed and started going through them with me. I had multiple black ones, a white one and one with flowers on it and of course, he immediately grabbed that one.

"Don't worry, we can buy bikinis in San Juan." he told me, when I put the rest of them back into the drawer.

"We're going to San Juan?" I asked, turning to face him. Benito nodded and smiled at me. Both Carla and Laura shot us a look, when he leaned over to kiss me.

"Alright, I think we found a lot of stuff to wear on a tropical island." Laura told us after a few moments. She had spread out the outfits she had picked on the bed. I was one of those girls that had absolutely no style in winter but as soon as the sun came out, I looked like I could attend fashion shows. Benito nodded in agreement, when he saw the many sun dresses I owned.

"I like that one a lot." he said, pointing at the dress Laura had lent me in Las Vegas. Of course, he liked the dress he had married me in.

"Sadly, that's mine and she forgot to give it back to me." she mumbled, folding the dress and putting it to the side.

"Oh, wow, your wedding dress wasn't even yours?" he questioned in amusement.

"I didn't choose to get married in that dress in the first place." I gave back jokingly.

"Don't worry, one day you'll choose a nice dress and the man that gets to see it will be very lucky." he responded, sounding like it made him sad. My heart ached at the thought of not him being said man. I grabbed his hand and squeezed it. In the meantime Carla had started putting the clothes into the suitcase. It took us almost an hour to pack everything and by the time we got into the Uber Laura had called us, I was exhausted. The girls said their goodbyes, then we got into the car. About 30 minutes into the drive, I fell asleep on Benito's shoulder.

I don't know how long I slept, all I know is that when I woke up, I was in a very comfortable chair. Confused, I looked around and found Benito sitting on a seat across from me, reading a book. He had earphones in and looked very concentrated. It didn't take me long to realise that I was on Benito's private jet and that we had already taken off. I rubbed my eyes with one of my hands, causing the blanket that had been placed over me to fall down to my lap. I guess the movement caught Benito's attention because he took one of the earphones out and put the book onto the little table between us with its pages facing down.

"Good morning." he greeted me happily.

"How long did I sleep?" I asked and yawned.

"Around four hours." he gave back, taking the other earphone out as well and putting both of them into their case.

"Were are we?" I wanted to know, looking out of the small window next to me.

"Somewhere over France." he told me. I nodded in response and started looking for my bag. Benito watched me and reached underneath the table. I thanked him, when he handed me the backpack. Since I didn't know what else to do, I pulled out one of my books as well but I couldn't focus, so I placed it on the table and leaned back again.

"Thank you for tonight, by the way." I mumbled with my eyes closed.

"What for?" he asked.

"Everything. The cake, the car, this right here." I said and opened my eyes.

"Don't thank me for that, hermosa." he gave back and leaned forward, putting his hand onto the table.

"Why not? It's not something someone just casually does." I told him and yawned again.

"I told you that you deserve the world." Benito said and chuckled.

"Just know that I don't take it for granted." I let him know, causing him to nod.

"I know." he gave back and smiled at me.

"What are we gonna do on Puerto Rico?" I wanted to know out of curiosity.

"Whatever you want but I want you to meet my family." Benito replied slowly. I smirked and nodded. He had told me multiple times that his mom had continually asked about me and if she would ever get to meet me. The flight went by faster than I had expected. Benito had fallen asleep soon after we had talked and I had watched a movie on my laptop, read in my book and done some work. When we landed, I stretched myself. Benito grabbed our bags while a flight attendant took my suitcase. Immediately I was greeted by a a warm breeze when I stepped out of the plane.

Benito was rubbing his thumb over the back of my hand as we were walking through his mom's backyard.

"My parents always throw BBQs when I come home, so my whole family is gonna be here." he said, leading me towards the group of people gathered around the grill. I could identify his two brothers and their girlfriends since Benito had shown me pictures.

"Hola mamá." Benito greeted the woman standing closest to us, still walking towards them.

"¡Ay, Benito!" she cheered loudly, pulling Benito into a tight hug. I let go of his hand, so he could return it. Smiling, I watched as he greeted everyone, then he held out his hand for me to take. I let him introduce me to his family members one by one. It seemed like all of them were incredibly interested in meeting me because I got bombarded with questions immediately. Honestly, it overwhelmed me a little. I wasn't used to people showing this much interest in me. After the greetings, we sat down at a big dinner table. I was seated between Benito and his youngest brother, Bysael. Bernie and Gabriela were sitting across from us with their little baby on her lap. They were the ones that I talked to the most. Benito was sitting across from one of his aunts who kept repeating how happy she was that he had finally settled down.

"Is this the aunt that you mentioned in Tití Me Preguntó?" I whispered towards Benito who had to chuckle.

"One of them that inspired me to write the song." he responded and placed his right hand on my knee. Honestly, I had been nervous to meet his family but they had welcomed me with so much love that I felt comfortable around them. They gave me the feeling of belonging there.

"Are you alright?" I heard Benito ask me after dinner.

"Yeah, I feel great here." I told him and smiled.

"Mi familia es tu familia." (My family is your family.) he said, then leaned over to peck my lips. He knew that growing up I had never had an actual family due to my parents being divorced and that it meant a lot to me.
