'That was the worst.'
You were referring to high school. Everyone bullied and made fun of you--especially (B/N). She always bugged you, even during the classes you had with her.
You used to be a bubbly and sweet girl, who would always see the brighter things of life. Because of (B/N), though, now everyone saw you as the 'emo kid,' since you wore nothing but black and were always gloomy.
You got into your house after another hellish day of school. You then remembered that you mother would be working late and wouldn't be back until 10 PM, so you had the whole house basically to yourself.
You went into your room, which was pitch black--you loved the dark and thought that it was the perfect place to escape and hide from your everyday problems. You closed the door and carefully made your way to your bed.
You lied down, then started thinking as you stared up at the ceiling. You thought about all the things that (B/N) had done and said to you that day. You knew it probably wasn't good to dwell on those things, but you just couldn't let it go.
'No one loves you.'
That sentence stuck out to you the most. You knew that that wasn't true, but there was a small part of you that thought that maybe it was. Tears streamed down the side of your face and your lips quivered. You rolled over, crying as quietly as you could.
Two red eyes looked at you from the darkness. You couldn't see what it was, since your eyes hadn't yet adjusted to the dark, but you didn't need to, as you already knew who it was.
"What's wrong?" Nightmare questioned, making you close your eyes.
You didn't say anything. Instead, you clenched your eyes shut. He waited for a response, but didn't get one.
"(Y/N), what's wrong?" Nightmare repeated himself.
Again, he didn't receive a reply. He sighed, and you took that as a sign of defeat. You scrunched your eyebrows together, a bit saddened that he had given up on you that quickly.
You heard him walk away from you. You peeked your eyes open to see what he was doing. You could barely see his outline walking towards the door. That was when he flicked on the lights and you were suddenly blinded.
"Ahh!" you hissed, covering your eyes with your arms. "Turn that off!"
"May I get an answer?" Nightmare asked somewhat sternly.
"Okay, okay! Fine! I'll tell you everything, just please turn off the light!"
He turned the lights back off. You dropped your arms and cursed under your breath. It was going to take forever for your eyes to readjust to the dark.
Nightmare walked back to you as you sat up. You wiped away your tears, but a sharp pain made you jerk back and wince. Nightmare noticed the tint of one of your eyes.
"What is that?"
"What? Nothing!"
You brushed your hair back into place to cover it, holding your hand over the spot. He grabbed your wrist and pulled it away, brushing your hair out of your face. You tried to fight back, but it was too late. He could clearly see the black eye.
"What happened?" Nightmare slowly asked, his eyes glowing.
You sighed, dropping your head. "I was punched."
"By who?" he snarled as he released your hand.
"A bully," you admitted, rubbing your wrist.
"Is this regular? I haven't noticed any bruises before." Nightmare gently grabbed your hand, making sure he hadn't hurt your wrist.
"No, this is the first time she's hit me."
"So the bullying is common?"
"Yeah."
"Have you hurt yourself?" he worried, checking your wrists.
"No. No, I haven't," you assured him.
"What does she do?" Nightmare wondered.
"She usually calls me names, insults me and tells me that everyone hates me, and makes fun of me. It doesn't usually get violent," you explained, rubbing your arm.
"And have you told the teachers?"
"I've tried to tell them, but they never believe me. That, or (B/N) would cover it up and make them believe her."
"What about your mother?"
"N-no. I'm worried she wouldn't believe me either," you mumbled.
"What about me? Why haven't you told me?" Nightmare croaked.
"I-I-- . . . I'm sorry. I just didn't want to bother you with it," you admitted nervously.
" 'Bother me'?"
You looked down as tears streamed down your face. He sighed, then pulled you into a hug. You cried into his shoulder. After everything that you've been through, this is what you needed.
"You can't bother me, (Y/N). No matter how hard you try . . . You have to tell your mother about this," Nightmare told you. "She can stop it."
"I will," you promised. "Tomorrow."
You started to get tired in Nightmare's comforting embrace. He kissed you on the forehead, before you drifted off to sleep.
