Request from Discord. This is am attempt at exploring what Basil was thinking in his last moments.

Basil held the gardening shears, the metal blades glisten in the moonlight. His grandmother is dead and Sunny is leaving. Who's he gonna have then? Polly? Polly would hate him, and she's just here for money she doesn't actually care at all.

Or so he beleives not knowing Polly cares deeply for him and would keep his secret if he ever spoke it.

Kel? Kel never reached out to him and if he knew the truth he would have left Basil to drown. Kel didn't save him as is, Sunny did. Sunny was the only one who jumped into to help him. Kel? Kel never cared, not really.

Or so be beleives, not knowing Kel always cared and always will.

Hero? What about Hero? Sure Hero jumped him to save him and Sunny, but keywords AND SUNNY. If it was just him, just Basil, Hero would have left him to drown in that lake just like Kel did. Hero doesn't care and even if he did he would strangle Basil if he learned the truth. He loved Mari and was devastated when he heard of what happened. There's no way he would ever forgive Basil or Sunny now. Would most likley hang him from a noose if he learned what really happened to Mari. If Hero learned what Sunny and Basil did he would kill the both of them without a moment's hesitation.

Or so he beleives not knowing Hero would be relieved to learn Mari's death was not his fault and find solace in knowing Mari is at least in a better place.

Is steel is cold against his flesh and feels as though it could cut his artery without even closing. It feels so easy...

His hands are shaking. This is hard, because it's wrong and deep down he knows that yet isn't able to stop himself anymore.

Wait what about Aubrey? Aubrey... She just bullied him for years. As much as he wishes things could return to normal, amends thing, he doesn't beleive it for a second. If this isn't some plot to bully him even more, she's gonna bash his skull in when she learns the truth. She loved Mari so much, and that bat can't just be for show... right?

Basil is right the bat is not soley for show, but it's for protecting what Aubrey cares about, such as Basil himself.

And Sunny...

It wasn't his fault, it was SOMETHING behind him. Now Sunny is leaving with that SOMETHING still behind him. He can't save Sunny from that and he can't be alone again.

He doesn't realize Sunny can come visit or that by coming clean he can free everyone from this pain.

Every lie Basil has told himself drives him to make a horrible mistake, the shears press against his flesh, a shooting pain warns him to stop but he makes the final mistake of pressing on and...

Well...

He at least gets to see Mari again...
