Your most hated cliche becomes the biggest cliche.

You hated that stupid old saying that people always believed was true.

'He's only mean to you because he secretly likes you!'

No, he was only mean to you because he hated you for some stupid reason. Maybe it was from that time when you accidentally knocked him unconscious?
You didn't mean to do it but he was getting on your nerves and he wouldn't stop talking smack about Natsu or gramps. The guild was all you ever had and knew to be family, your whole world basically revolved around these people and the guild was your sanctuary.

You were a pretty tough wizard if you did say so yourself. You weren't S Class worthy but you didn't need the title to tell you how strong you were. You became the skilled Ice mage you were today when you were only eight years old and you joined the Fairy Tail guild along the way- expanding your powers that never stopped growing.

Mira constantly threw that sentence at you and you would've already knocked her out cold if it was someone like Lucy or Natsu, maybe Gray too. You didn't understand that stupid saying, why the heck would an arrogant boy like Laxus treat you like dirt because he liked you?

If the boy knew any better he would listen to his grandad and be a gentleman. Sometimes your mind often wondered back to that line more than you liked to admit and you always thought about how the Lighting boy wouldn't talk to you like a normal human being but you would sometimes catch him looking at you. Whenever that happened he would just looked around as if he wasn't even caught.

In return for his constant rudeness you would often freeze the floor beneath causing him to slip and growl in anger, you always laughed at the heat that took over his cheeks as he rushed away. You couldn't understand why he hadn't stopped his stupid nonsense though, when you were both kids in the guild you had always played around- sometimes even getting pretty close with the boy and you could've said he was your best friend about a lifetime ago.

Those days were full of playing around and testing each others magic- testing your weaknesses and strength and learning the true extent of your magic.

Getting close with the boy, you even remembered growing a little girl crush on him. You remembered when your ten year old self thought he was the most perfect being on earth. You imagined having dates and doing the most cliche couple things like a first kiss and then zooming into marriage and having thirty three kids.

The thought now made bile rise in you throat.

Maybe your younger self got zapped by lightening too many times and the fact that the She-Devil yelled out that sentence everyday may have had something to do with it.

But now, here you were sitting in the guild being bored out of your mind when the person who was suddenly consuming your thoughts entered the building, you turned to look at him. Laxus Dreyer most likely coming back from a solo mission, you were somewhat relieved to see he was fine but you would't dare say it aloud for the teasing you would receive in return.

His eyes seemed to scan the guild and right when they would've met yours you quickly turned around- cheeks turning pink thinking about if he caught you staring. Of course it would've only been the first time... maybe..?

You turned back to the wall and laid your head on your arms but then stiffened when you felt a presence looming over you as they sat in the bench beside you. You sighed- prepping yourself for either Mira's love banter, Natsu's eager lack of fighting complaints, Gray's complaints to everything in general or Lucy's whining of boredom.

Your turned your head towards the stranger already opening your mouth to tell them to go away but then the face the Laxus rendered you silent.

He gave you that grin that just oozes with arrogance and over- confidence while he wiggled his eyebrows, "Hey geezer- I just smashed some three- headed giant monster dogs, easy enough. And what did you do? Nothing but sleep like always."

"Shove off Laxus. Go find someone who cares and then you can talk their ears off."

"Oh come on (Y/N), don't be like that- remember the old times when we would play together- I have no idea what I was thinking back then, messing around and wasting my time with a person like you." He simply shrugged and looked at you like you were a bug he stepped on.

You growled in frustration and narrowed your eyes at the wall in front of you. How badly you wanted to make him cower away and apologise to you. Maybe even kiss the ground you walk on.

Lucky for him you didn't have telekinesis or mind control.

"Laxus I'm not in the mood for your stupidity, go away."

"Laxus leave the poor girl alone!" Gramps voice roared through the guild. You sighed in annoyance for about the billionth time as everyone else jumped and turned their attention to you and the lightening dragon slayer.

With a flushed face of embarrassment you quietly walked out of your seat as Laxus sat in silence and anger thinking about how Makarov just scolded him like a child. You were too bored and mentally tired to deal with that stuff. No matter what you did or what you didn't do- you were always being judged or criticised by the blonde man.

Not that you even cared anyway, seriously if he was going to treat you like that why did he even bother talking to you at all.

Maybe he didn't know how else to talk to you? No way, That's so something Mira would say. And then Happy would fly above you singing playfully, "He likes you!"

You kept walking away from the guild watching the cloudless sky and feeling the gentle breeze when you shoved you hands mindlessly in your pockets. You were thinking way too much about this whole Laxus problem that you didn't even notice that your name was being called by someone sounding familiar to you.

"(Y/N)! Geez slow down!" You turned your head slightly to see Natsu, your shoulders relaxed slightly- a slight smile coming to your face, happy that your friend decided to follow you. You didn't even notice a certain blonde headed man burning in anger in the distance with his eyes locked on you.

"Hey Natsu! How's it going?" You smiled when he finally caught up to you with Happy relaxing on his head.

Natsu smiled, showing you his pearly whites and chuckled as he answered, "I'm great! Just wondering how you are after all.. that?" He gestured to the guild that was well behind you now and you simply huffed out,

"I'm fine! Honestly I don't know why i'm so angry about it. It's all so stupid- just because that lightening head has communication issues doesn't mean he has to be all negative and rude all the time!"

Natsu gave you a questioning look, watching you almost as if he was analysing you. He watched you look down at your feet- observing the tired but sad expression on your face and also the way the blush unconsciously took place on your cheeks. Just like it always did when you were near or talking about Laxus.

It seemed everyone in the guild noticed this but Natsu didn't believe it- he didn't believe a strong woman like you would possibly fall for a person like Laxus but it seemed that your body language alone gave it all away.

He didn't want to speak his thoughts out loud, knowing that you would most definitely put him to sleep with your fist but he couldn't help the cheeky giggle escaping his mouth. Happy caught on and accidentally sang out, "You like him!"

You chocked on your breath with wide eyes at their sudden outburst, you growled and spun towards Natsu who suddenly really wished he didn't leave the guild. The scared expression on his face almost made you laugh but Happy's statement made you too mad for words.

"Natsu!!! I thought you came to cheer me up!" You bellowed loudly- managing to capture some peoples attention. Natsu laughed out awkwardly and scratched his pink coloured head. He avoided your eye contact but then stilled, realising your mistake.

He watched you with eyes wide as saucers and grinned an enormous grin, pointing at you with his index finger as he screamed, "You didn't deny it (Y/N)!"

You were gobsmacked when your blooper replayed in your mind, he was right- you didn't deny it but that didn't mean anything.

You grumbled out curses- giving up on fighting with Natsu who was dancing like he won a contest. You turned and walked away- the dragons slayers happiness clouding his vision to thankfully not notice your sudden absence.

You made it to the Solar Tree in South Gate, sitting by the tree with your back resting against the hard and bumpy wood. You dozed off- closing your eyes, letting the sun rays hit your face when suddenly the cool air of shade covered you.
You squinted your eyes open, noticing Laxus standing over you with a somber looking expression on his face.

You merely closed your eyes again- feeling exhausted even though you did nothing that day. Laxus surprised you when he sat down next to you- possibly too close for comfort and sighed out loud, looking everywhere but into your eyes.

"So.." He began.

You opened your eyes again, watching him in bewilderment. He sat their looking puzzled, unsure of what to say or how to begin. Hell, he didn't even know why he came here. He just knew that as soon as you walked out the door of the guild, he felt a slight twinge of longing for your presence to be near him again. He was angry, still angry at gramps and himself- but nothing prepared you his next words, even he was astonished when he realised what he said.

"I love you."

Laxus turned to you in shock, his face became so red it would put Erza's hair to shame. He hadn't expected to utter those three words- he wasn't even thinking about that but it seemed as though his brain was still catching up to what his heart already knew.

You simply stared, not knowing what to say- what if this was a joke?

"A-are you s-serious..?" You murmured, silently scolding yourself for stuttering at his bold and unexpected confession. He started nodding, you almost didn't even notice. His shoulders slumped when he remembered that you obviously wouldn't feel the same after the way he treated you.

"Uh, sure I guess- I mean- whatever." He noticeably cringed at his own reply. He knew he always felt slightly nervous around you but he wanted to punch himself in the face for saying right after confessing to you.

He looked at you from the corner of his eyes while you narrowed your eyes at him. He became slightly scared, awaiting your next actions. He didn't mean to make you angry, you just make him become slightly dysfunctional and that was the first thing out of his mouth. He didn't know how to be nice and talk normally to someone he liked- or loved actually.

"Urgh, this joke isn't funny, you can st- Mmph!"

You definitely weren't expecting this- Laxus shut you up. With his lips.

Those surprisingly soft and warm lips had rendered you helpless when you found yourself melting into it- he hated that he couldn't express his emotions normally so he hoped to god that you would feel what he was trying to convey through the kiss- his true feelings of repentance and love.

Laxus cupped you cheek, directing your head in a way that could let him deepen the intense kiss you both shared. He unexpectedly licked your bottom lip and sucked on it softly- asking for permission to let him explore your mouth with his tongue. You opened without hesitation letting his tongue into your mouth, and gasped at the strange pleasures you were feeling in yourself and your heart.

Laxus slowly pulled away- staring at your lips and then your eyes as you both panted from the kiss. Breathing in the much need oxygen you gently smiled at him and looked away from the intensity of his grey eyes.

He looked at you for some sign of your speaking those three words he longed to hear and he got excited when you began to open your mouth, listening to every word you had to say like it was all that mattered- it did to him anyway.

"Don't tell me you actually pretended to hate me cause you really like me and didn't know how to show it."

You blabbed on so fast he almost didn't catch it and when he did Laxus blushed like crazy- giving you your answer and you sighed,

Laxus.. I'm sorry I don't love y-you..-"

You saw his face drop and his hold on you soften like he was ready to let go of you before you quickly grabbed him and continued.

"W-wait! I wasn't finished- I don't love you, but I do really, really like you and I want to be with you.. And then m-maybe I w-will eventually f-fall in.. l-love with y-y-you..?"

At that Laxus laughed in glee, hugging you as he began apologising profusely for everything bad he had ever done to you. You smiled at this, taking in his words. You might love him but you wanted to make sure before you said so.

And so from that day forward, everyone in the guild grew confused but happy nonetheless at the sight of Laxus showing you how much he loved you everyday just so you would fall in love him him- and you were already well on your way there.
