Edward didn't what had gotten into him but he couldn't stop; not that he really wanted to. He had met you through Winry when you visited your old friend after you moved away when you were eight years old.
Your parents took you with them when they moved to Xing for seven years to learn alkahistory. But now you were back and to your surprise, Edward and Alphonse actually remembered you. And you could say that you were extremely surprised to come back to a burnt down Elric house, Ed and Al's mother having passed away and having a large metal tin man hug you like there was no tomorrow and then came the half metal older blonde brother who approached you with a huge smile and blushing cheeks.
Winry had grown immensely happy now that you were living with them while your parents stayed in Central; all that begging and pleading was definitely worth it. Winry also happened to notice that Ed and Al would visit Resembool more frequently, knowing that you would be there waiting for them. Ed had always found himself staring at you for no particular reason; maybe it was because he thought you were absolutely amazing or how you seemed to be so damn enchantingly beautiful without even trying.
He hated and loved how much you caught his attention and how he never wanted to look away. You messed with his mind and caused his brain to turn to mush. His sparring with Alphonse had gotten quicker because whenever he caught you watching him playfully brawl with his undefeated younger brother he would turn frozen earning a nice jab in the gut. Queue the flustered cheeks due to the embarrassment Alphonse would always have the pleasure of causing for his older brother.
You always smiled and giggled at his bizarre behaviour that caused his eyes to grow wide at your innocent and adorable sounding laugh. He would then smile; it was like routine between the two of you and no words had to be spoken. He would do something silly to embarrass himself in front of you which caused you to laugh and that only made him smile bigger. Happy when he knew that he- and only he was the cause of your unique smile that seemed to be the light of his darkness.
Edward had already admitted to himself that you were his universe. He hated that you didn't know though, he hated it because wanted to tell you so bad and continue to scream it from every mountain top in Amestris. He had also told his younger brother while they stayed in their apartment about his insane feelings for you and he had surprised Edward when his only answer was,
"I know, I'm pretty sure she does too brother. You're aren't the best at hiding it."
Alphonse was dying to tease you and Edward about the stares and lack of doing anything about it. He just had to wait until his silly brother spilled it on accident or finally grew some and told you. Alphonse knew that Edward shouldn't be too concerned on the fact that rejection was always an option because Alphonse knew it wouldn't happen anyway but that didn't stop the oldest Elric from fidgeting as he freaked out; thinking his heart was going to jump out of mouth every time he approached you.
Edward loved the fact that he swore he could see the galaxy in your eyes. It was almost as though you put the stars in the sky but you also caused the thunderstorms during a sunny day. To him you were dangerous but also so sweet and fascinating that only knowing you were in the same house as him turned him into some fidgety; but frozen at the same time, freak.
When he could finally react normally; knowing you weren't around he would get so angry and frustrated with himself. He didn't like how unconfident you made him and he wanted to stop it immediately; but if stopping it meant that he wouldn't get to be with you then he would just have to deal with this for the rest of his life. And honestly, he would be delighted to.
It was just a casual day in Resembool, you had been sitting at the table and reading your favourite romance novel for about the fiftieth time and Winry had informed you that Edward and Alphonse were visiting for the fourth time that month. You smiled at her words and she giggled at your reaction when she caught you hiding your red cheeks behind the book in your hands from the kitchen where she began cooking some stew for Edward; knowing Alphonse couldn't eat.
Winry didn't know why she felt annoyed at the excessive amount of times Edward had decided to come home ever since you had been home. She was annoyed and confused at the feeling because before you had moved back here from Xing, only Winry got to endure the pleasure of having Edward and Alphonse over the rare times they decided to head back to Resembool to fix Ed's automail.
Now that you had came to live with Winry and Granny Pinako it seemed that Ed wanted visit you more. It was like every time he left the house to go to the train station; he was even sadder than before when he was only saying goodbye to Winry with a simple wave of his hand. This time he would take his time to hug you, molding your body in his so he could remember every curve of your perfectly structured frame. Edward seemed to walk away more slowly, staring back at you longer each time before you finally disappeared from his sight.
Winry liked the thought of you and Edward finally getting together; in fact she encouraged it and couldn't wait for the opportunity to rise when she could finally force Edward to spill everything, making you do the same in return. But she was also a bit down in the dumps about it. Maybe Winry also liked Edward but just not as much as you. Winry knew that there was someone made for everyone and she could only see her beloved ending up with you and so she had to let go.
Hence the reason why Winry constantly made those cheeky little comments about you and Edward. They always made you blush with embarrassment and want to hide away from her smiling face. She constantly caught Edward staring at you with those wide and amazed eyes like he was witnessing the most incredible thing he had ever seen- and so this time Winry was going to call him out on it.
Hours later Ed and Al had finally arrived with smiling faces; whereas Ed's consisted of red cheeks and Al had been holding his giggles in. Ed earned a wrench to his forehead and you couldn't help but laugh out loud causing Edward to freeze and stare at the source of the sweet melody that erupted from your mouth. Shoving past his odd but insanely cute reaction to your laugh, you jogged out towards him and got Den off of his body, helping him off of the ground where he abruptly embraced you in a tight hug which you eagerly returned.
Winry playfully whistled at the moment you and the boy shared as you pulled away with your heart thumping it's way to a heart attack. You then recovered and grabbed Ed's hand while he froze before slowly entwining your fingers and letting you drag him into the kitchen to eat some stew that Winry finished as you read more chapters of your novel.
Sitting at the dinner table you caught little glimpses of Ed's golden orbs stuck on your form. You looked back so you could watch him blush and quickly look away as if he hadn't been caught but that didn't happen. It was like he was in some sort of trance; and unknowingly to you, he was.
For dinner you had decided to let you hair down from it's usual tied up style. And so Edward couldn't keep his eyes off of the way your soft tendrils of hair shaped around your perfect looking face. His heart couldn't stop beating faster and faster and he grew worried, thinking that you could hear it.
You looked away and continued to eat your stew that was placed in front of you. Edward hadn't made a move to pick up his fork and he didn't even react when his stomach began growling; earning everyone's attention as they smiled at the sight of Edward continuing on how he always did around you.
"Like what you see Edward?" Winry asked mischievously as she nudged your shoulder from the seat next to you. Across from her was Alphonse who sat and watched with what you would imagine would be a smile on his little adorable face. And without no hesitation Edward answered,
"Yeah."
You chocked on your food that you were chewing; not expecting such a bold answer and drank your glass of water to relieve the pain in your throat. Edward however perked up at the sound of your choking, realising only seconds later what his answer was and only to cringe to himself and muttered incoherent words to himself.
You finished you food in a rush to leave the awkwardness that surrounded the dinner table. You then rushed to put the plates in the kitchen sink and rushed up the stairs when you were excused thanks to Granny Pinako. After feeling Ed's eyes follow your every move he finally finished his stew also- leaving the full glass of milk where it was, untouched, and he ran up to your room he found you sitting on the bed staring at the wall.
He immediately rushed in; ignoring the palpitations of his heart and kneeled in front of you with his hands on your knees as looked up into your eyes watching the stars in them, even in the dark room that was only lit up from the moon.
"Hey Ed."
You voice came out raspy and Edward sighed in relief; content to know you weren't angry or sad for some reason- maybe for what he said downstairs.
"Hey (Y/N), sorry about what happened downst-"
"Why are you apologising?" You asked immediately as you stared directly into his golden eyes; your hearts slowly starting to beat together in sync.
He raised a questioning brow and answered anyway with a huff, "For what I said, I didn't mean to embarrass you or anything like that."
You giggled at his sheepish comment and ravelled in how vulnerable he looked while he kneeled on the floor in front of you. You gently held his hands that were resting on your knees and he eagerly grasped them; smiling at the opportunity to hold your hands just as much as you wanted to hold his.
"You didn't embarrass me at all Ed. I love it when I catch you staring at me."
Ed smiled at your answer before he finally registered that you said you caught him staring. He stared in alert, his mouth dropping opened and closed trying to formulate an excuse before he could further embarrass himself.
You continued to laugh and he went quiet at the sound, smirking lightly at how much you loved to turn him into a mushy mess and squeezed your hands tenderly. Your laugh died away slowly and you opened your mouth to elaborate on your previous statement.
"I love it when I catch you staring because it's like I'm the only girl in the world in you eyes-"
"Well, you are."
With flaming cheeks you mustered up the determination to continue, watching his eyes shine with tender love, "It's like you aren't even ashamed to have been caught staring and it's like you find me the most amazing being in the universe, I absolutely love it when you stare at me Ed."
Ed's smile grew with every word, loving how you got all of that correct just from witnessing his helpless stares. He knew he wanted to scream out those three words and confess his deep love for you but he was afraid of scaring you away because of your reaction from dinner which only happened moments ago.
"I.. I really, really like you (Y/N)" He confessed as his lips turned to a thin line, holding his breath and waiting for you to say the words back to him. You only smiled in glee and grabbed his hands, pulling him up so you could wrapped your slim arms around his neck and hug him. Puzzled, he returned the warm gesture and you pulled away just to look into his eyes as you moved towards the middle of the bed so Edward could take a seat before you.
"I wish I could say the same Ed," You continued; watching his face drain of colour when lips turned to a frown. Smiling, you continued- knowing the next words would make his night.
But.. I'm afraid I've fallen in love with you."
He gawked at your answer, falling in love even more at your boldness when he grasped your neck with his hands- causing you to flinch slightly when the cool metal met your warm skin and squealed slightly when his lips met yours in a forceful and heated kiss. Being the inexperienced teens you were, you moved your lips and let him take the lead, loving the way his warm and tingling lips exceeded all of your expectations and fantasies.
Taking a breath, he pulled away slightly panting but still staying close enough to feel your lips on his. Breathing in each others oxygen he muttered those heart-stopping words to which your only reaction was to kiss him again.
"I'm in love with you too."
