"Kaneki-Chan! I'm so bored!" You whined from your spot on the floor in your apartment with Kaneki who was seated comfortably on the single love-seat by the window. The way the midday sunlight was shining upon him caused you to openly stare but you couldn't help it when the one you were staring at was your best friend; Kaneki Ken.

The boy looked up at you after a short while when you became silent from your obvious ogling. His cheeks became a faint pink colour when he noticed you but answered nonetheless as he placed his bookmark into the book that he had in his grip.

"Well what would you like to do, (Y/N)- Chan?" His sweet voice filled the void and you smiled when you thought about everything you could do with him.

"Well Kaneki.. -Uh Huh! We need to go now!" You exclaimed as you wildly jumped from your position on the ground to run into your bedroom and grab your shoes. Kaneki hadn't moved but gasped lightly when he watched you speed right at him, his book now fallen on the floor, to grab his hand and lead him right out of the door without a say.

Out of the apartment building now, Kaneki and yourself held hands as you walked through the streets of Tokyo. You were totally oblivious to the stares and smiles received but Kaneki only embarrassedly avoided them and focused on getting rid of the blush when you wrapped one arm around his forearm as the other was tightly gripping his hand.

"Uh- Wh-where are we going (Y/N)-Chan?" The tall boy asked beside you. You smiled at the sound of his soft voice when he stuttered slightly. You always loved being overly-affectionate towards Kaneki because his reactions were absolutely adorable and it was even better because he never rejected your actions.
You looked up the boy and only smiled wider when you saw that he was avoiding your gaze so you wouldn't catch the rosy tint on his face and snuggled into him further which made him feel all sorts of warm and flustered on the inside.

"You'll see Ken-Chan, patience is key." You giggled out.
Kaneki grew another fifty shades of red at the intimate nickname but revelled in the way your smooth voice spoke to him. He chuckled nervously at the sight of people staring but only held your hand tighter for reassurance. Kaneki had grown used to your constant child-like behaviour and grew to adore that about you, ever since the two of you were kids you had always been so open with affection and smiles and Kaneki couldn't help but cling onto that light you gave him.

It was like his life was so dark but you were the constant light at the end of the tunnel. It also helped when he found out that his other best friend; Hideyoshi, claimed that he harboured no feelings beyond platonic ones for you. The thought made him happy because he knew he wouldn't get hurt- unless you rejected him but that's different.

You continued to watch and observe everything you passed, unconsciously squeezing Kaneki's hand every few minutes just so you could feel the way his dainty fingers tightened around yours. Every time this happened, Kaneki would take a nervous glimpse at your face to observe what type of expression you held but all he saw was smiles- not that he would have it any other way but he also wanted to know if you held in the same type of feelings that he did for you.

You stopped abruptly from your bouncy skip-like walk and turned, surprising Kaneki when he noticed the both of you had made it to the new pound in one of the less commercial streets of Tokyo. You gave a toothy grin to Kaneki, giggles spewing from your throat when you took in his slightly shocked expression and only became louder when you dragged him in and heard a louder gasp erupting from the boy behind you.

Kaneki was didn't know if he should've felt surprised or disappointed when you let go of his hand the second you entered the establishment filled with domesticated animals. He only knew that he shouldn't have been that startled because of your over-whelming love; or more like obsession with dogs. Especially (F/B).

You gasped loudly, causing bystanders to turn in surprise but they only went back to what they were doing when they saw you were only excited because of the animals. Kaneki smiled at how much you resembled an overly-excited child on christmas morning but he only followed and waited for you to speak.

"Ken-Chan! Look, look at these beautiful creatures! Can we get them please, please! Pleeee-"

"Okay (Y/N)-Chan."

"-eese, I re- wait what?!"

You almost choked, turning from the glass you were previously crouched in front of to turn back to your best friend who stood a few feet behind you to watch your actions in front of the cute puppy that hadn't taken it's eyes off of you. Your wide eyes bored into Kaneki's and he slowly but surely grew nervous from your gaze when you didn't speak. You then opened your mouth to squeal in delight causing Kaneki to jump from the sound and make an 'oomph' sound when you quickly ran into his body and hugged him tight.

Your arms wrapped themselves around the black-haired boys waist and he was stunned into silence, dozens of thoughts going through his inexperienced mind before he finally returned the hug and smiled when you nuzzled your face into his warm chest, embracing yourself in the warm feeling and staying there to hide the large smile that had grown on your face from the fluttering feeling in your stomach.

You slowly let go, staring up at Kaneki as he also stared back. Your breath hitched when he seemed to move forward slightly, only enough for you to actually catch the action and you did nothing but let it happen. He seemed to take that as a sign of approval and continued, watching your eyes slowly drift shut and then-

'WOOF'

You jumped, shrieking in the act when your hand met your chest to calm your wild heart. You knew you face was blazing red when you avoided Kaneki's gaze and smiled in an embarrassed manner at the sound of the puppy barking for your attention.

You quickly made your way towards the glass again, mentally cursing yourself at the thought of making your relationship awkward with Kaneki who also had fiery red cheeks and couldn't stop fidgeting, already silently scolding himself for his abruptly bold and stupid actions.

- Next Day -

Kaneki and yourself had left the pound yesterday before any purchases could be made. It slightly upset you, but not more than the obvious awkwardness that surrounded the two of you. You had no idea what Kaneki was feeling, all you could think about was the fact that you got to feel just a light graze of his top lip on yours and you knew he was probably thinking about how much of a stupid mistake it was.

He probably had the hots for Touka anyway. You had always seen the way they looked at each other when you insisted on walking Kaneki to work at Anteiku. You liked to think you were his cute girlfriend and you would accompany him to work so he could be happy when he arrived back at your apartment.
You couldn't remember the last time the two of you were separated, apart from when he went to work, but now you couldn't help but think all that was gone now and the quiet void from your apartment seemed to be suffocating you, hence your arrival in a neighbouring park.

You made the silly and careless mistake of walking towards Anteiku to walk Kaneki home but then thoughts of your current predicament hit you like a truck and you didn't want to go home alone so here you were.

It was getting cold, people had already gone home for the night but you couldn't go there by yourself. You knew you had been incredibly stupid for coming here alone at night when you knew ghouls were bound to come out but you wanted to stay. The paranoia had set in a while ago and the sound of soft patting steps on the ground didn't help.

You turned quickly, holding your breath to listen as the quick steps came quicker and nearer, it sounded like four steps at a time and the thought scared you beyond words. You walked away in a haste, reaching the street light to stand right below it and you spun around to watch as a dog came clumsily walking towards you.

It wasn't just any dog though, it was the one you saw yesterday- your favourite breed and also the one who interrupted your almost kiss with your best friend. Speaking of best friends, Kaneki appeared. Scaring you when you grabbed the dog and prepared to run all in one movement before your eyes finally adjusted to the light from the black night and the white light of the street lamp.

"Ke-ken-Chan."

Kaneki smiled lightly at the nickname again, happiness and relief filing his system when you called him that endearing name that only you would say to him. If it hadn't have been for the stutter in your words then Kaneki wouldn't have notice how much you were shivering now, hugging the puppy into your torso as its fur coat felt warm and fluffy against your bare arms.

"You're freezing, c'mere (Y/N)-Chan."

"I'm okay, Kaneki, its alright." You uttered in a weak voice, you were too tired and cold now to object to the jacket now being wrapped over your shoulders and all you could do was bask in the scent and warmth of Kaneki Ken.

"(Y/N)-Chan... What does it say on the puppy's collar?"

Your brows furrowed at his question when you saw Kaneki's eyes trained on the collar of the dog. You stared a while longer, sighing when you figured he wouldn't elaborate and grabbed the collar anyway, bringing the new tag into the light to read the name.

Reading it over, your eyes widened. You felt your breath stop in your throat and all at the same time you wanted to run away but then jump on Kaneki and kiss his face.

I love you, (Y/N)-Chan, Be mine?

You found yourself nodding before you could comprehend it and you couldn't see Kaneki smiling as his shoulders slumped in relief while he watched your reaction.
The lack of action confused the ravenette slightly when he lifted his hand to place it under your chin to lift your face so your eyes could meet his, he smiled wider this time at the wondrous sight of your (E/C) - coloured orbs and leaned in closer to finally close the gap, this time with no interruptions.

And that was when he knew that you had already agreed to his question the moment you two had first met when you were only children.
