The time was approaching, you knew it and you could feel it. The dreams were on repeat as if they would have no end and you couldn't wait until it became a reality. You knew people had it different, no one was the same after all but you would still ask others about it. The dreams people would consistently get throughout the night when your soul knew what was coming.
It meant it was finally time for you to meet your other half; your Soulmate.
As a child the thought scared you at first, why and how would your own soul know before you did and why did it always come in dreams- buts that how it was here and everywhere. People had soulmates; those that they were soulfully and spiritually attached to ever since birth.
Your mother told you about it when she would tell you some bedtime stories. You craved them and you loved to watch the smile grow on her face when she would reminisce her first dreams and interactions with your father.
You were a ghoul from the twentieth ward and you recently moved to Tokyo only a few months ago. You felt as if you had made the right decision and you were beyond glad about that. You found this cute cafe, Anteiku and you grew to love it dearly. Their coffees were absolutely splendid and the people were so kind. It was even better when you found out it was ghoul and human friendly.
You half hated the fact that you could only live on human flesh, the taste was delectable but this was who you were and you figured being mopey and upset about it wont change anything at all. You only regulated your meals to roughly once a fortnight and you would only feed on the weak or unfortunate, sometimes suicides too. They made you upset but it was also apart of the food chain. It's how you survived.
Almost every night you went to bed with a small smile on your face knowing the inevitable was going to occur. You swore you almost screamed out of excitement the first night you had that dream, it was like an epiphany you woke up from and you couldn't wait. The dreams were becoming much more frequent now and more detailed as you slept.
First it was a place; a dark alley only lit by some dim street lights in an unknown place. Then in another dream you could see people, a human and some blood too. It frightened you and you knew in your heart, you probably wanted a more romantic meeting but you couldn't really defy fate. Next it was a voice; the voice brought chills through your body and it was fairly off because it felt like you were watching through a television screen and you couldn't do anything but watch and listen.
The voice was distorted and dizzying, shifting from high to low pitch but as the dreams eventually got more vivid, they also became much more clearer and you only thought about what your soulmate would be seeing. What did you seem like to him? Were you everything he wanted? Did your voice seem to ignite a fire inside of him as his did to you?
These very thoughts had you daydreaming everyday as nothing would help to clear your mind, your late mothers words were also constantly ringing through your skull; memories of when you were a child began to resurface as silent tears came to your eyes when you remembered your mother.
- Flash Back -
"Mommy! Tell me again please, the stories! Just before sleepy time!"
A woman of (H/C) - coloured hair and (E/C) - coloured eyes laughed softly when she watched her young child leap into her bed, snuggling under the blankets when she observed the large, beady eyes glowing from the pink lamp on the bedside table.
The woman slowly made her way to her daughter, taking a seat on the bed and proceded to lean forward and place a tender kiss upon your head. You smiled a toothy grin and shifted in the blankets more to get comfortable, awaiting your mother to begin,
"Well.. Let's see, it started when I was younger- the dreams. You will get them too honey, and they will fill you with so much warmth and love. They begin slowly but as the time comes closer, you will begin to see more and more every night. There will be a person in your dreams and they will be speaking to you, looking at only you. This person is the one who you will be spending the rest of your life with. Cherish them with every fibre in your being."
By the last sentence, the woman noticed her daughters eyes slowly drifting closed. Her long eyelashes fanning over her cheeks as slow breaths left her nose as she became slowly embraced with sleep. The woman smiled at the sight and smoothed her hand over her daughters face lovingly before she turned off the light and walked out of the dark room, closing the door behind her.
- Now -
By now you were blinking in surprise, feeling the wetness drifting down your smooth face as you wiped the tears away. Your mother had passed away only a few years ago but she lived an amazing life, you couldn't deny that, she was one of the most kindest woman you knew and you aspired to be like her. That's why you were quite cautious when thinking of having a feed.
Your mother usually took care of you and provided food when you couldn't but you weren't sure if the way you were doing it was making her happy and not upset with you. Maybe she had a better alternative, or maybe you just shouldn't eat at all- after all, who were you to go off and take another person's life for your own benefit.
It was five in the afternoon and now you were making your way into Anteiku where Touka, Nishki and Kaneki had greeted you with their signature smiles that they always used to greet a customer. They relaxed slightly when they saw a face they immediately recognised and already had your coffee being made, knowing your order off by heart.
You smiled in return, greeting your recently made friends and made your way to a table placed by the window overlooking the street outside. You smiled in your seat, placing your belongings by your side on the floor and got comfortable as you leaned forward to rest your head on your arms on the table. Feeling the warm sun rays on your body, you couldn't help but fall asleep.
- Dream -
You were tired, panting as you were seated in the dark alleyway you had grown used to appearing in. Your stomach was grumbling to no end and you were too exhausted to move. You couldn't remember the last time you had eaten but you didn't care because this was only a dream- though it felt so damn real and looked so vivid you knew it was going to end all in a few moments.
The familiar yelling was heard; a man coming to your aid when he noticed a fragile looking woman sitting in a fetal position in the alley. You only held your body tighter so you wouldn't lose control and rip him apart. You could feel your kagune ready to burst but you weren't about to lose your restraints on your ghoul.
The familiar warmth of the wet blood was then splattered on you, you shook in fear- jumping when you watched the man's head slowly roll to your side. You stood up slowly as you used the wall behind you for assistance and watched as a boy approached you, his eyes being pitch black with his red pupils glowing in the darkness. His mop of hair was tinged blue in the dim street lights and his kagune was shining like sharp butterfly wings until they faded away.
He slowly sauntered towards you, his narrowed eyes watching your form like you were more inferior to him- even though he didn't even know you. You cowered away and your mind was frozen. Should you run or should you jump on him, hug him and begin your lives together. He analysed you for the longest time and you knew that he knew who you were. You were his soulmate, just like he was yours.

"(Y/N)-Chan, wake up"
"Aye, sleep when you go home."
Your eyes squinted open, smiling lazily when you noticed Touka and Kaneki standing above you as Kaneki held your coffee while Touka stood with her hands on her hips. The girl watched with hard eyes but they softened when your eyes met hers. Kaneki smiled slightly as he placed your warm beverage in front of you and walked away to tend to other customers, leaving Touka to also smile and walk away- leaving you to enjoy your drink.
"Thanks guys, taste amazing as always!" You exclaimed, not worried about the other strangers who watched you strangely. Kaneki nodded in gratitude from behind the bar and the others simply ignored you or nodded in reply. You continued to sip the drink, until the last drop and sighed in content watching the time tick by as different customers entered and exited the cafe.
The sun was now below the horizon and people were getting restless, your cup had gone cold beside your arm and all you could do was play boring games on your phone or watch as people would interact with others.
You yawned to yourself, grabbing your belongings to stand up. You pushed the chair back into the table and smiled at the employees of Anteiku. Touka smiled slightly, Kaneki waved with a smile on his face and you only giggled in an embarrassed manner when your stomach began growling loudly for food.
You exited the store, strolling through the streets as you watched the once lit sky was now turning to the blue you had grown fond of since it always reminded you of the hair your future lover had. Thinking of the man, he seemed young- but then again, you were also quite young at the ripe age of fifteen. He seemed stiff in your dreams, you hoped your meeting wouldn't add to it. Maybe you could help make his life easier, you would only pray to God that he wasn't one to reject his soulmate or just abandon them completely.
Those stories were newsworthy because how could any dare to defy the one that they were forever bound to since the moment they came into this world? You never, ever wanted to experience the feeling.
Feelings.. How were you feelin-
'Grrrr'
You blushed and looked around when you heard your stomach rip you from your thoughts and you only weeped internally at the pain of the hunger that slowly began to consume you. You sat down, not taking notice of your surroundings when suddenly everything happened piece by piece like it was all part of a puzzle waiting to be complete.
You were tired and hungry.
The man came and called out to you.
The dim street lights made you catch sight of the red blood that was now sprayed throughout the dark alley.
The decapitated head, those lifeless eyes now staring up at you- his eyes forever opened wide with fear.
The blue tinged hair and that butterfly- looking kagune.
He approached you when you slowly got up, you could feel your eyes changing to those of the red and black that you despised but intrigued you at the same time. He seemed to 'tsk' at your appearance and he forcefully grabbed your hand. You gasped at the feeling, watching his face contort with an unknown emotion but he never met your eyes. His hand; his touch seemed to ignite that fire inside you and you smiled lightly when you knew that the both of you knew you were now together.
"Hurry up and eat, we're leaving." He uttered when he dragged you to the dead body. You stared at the boy, feeling a bit embarrassed since you didn't even know his name, but he only nodded as to let you know it was okay to eat. He knew that he definitely didn't want you to die from starvation, he would do anything in his power to prevent that.
You did as you were told, eating the dead mans flesh as the boy watched with an unreadable expression. He looked somewhat shocked when you offered him some but he kindly declined and took your hand again, picking you up from the floor to walk away with you in his hold, now and forever.
".. Ayato Kirishima.."
You only smiled back when you stared at the flustered looking boy and answered when you squeezed his hand in joy, "(Y/N) (L/N)"
