Today I went to where we first met, Harriet. I took a seat outside on the half-ruptured swing set by your house as the rain cascaded down, soaking my clothes and shaping my hair to stick to my face like an envelope seal.

I took a swing, felt the cold intermittent breeze flush my cheeks, and sighed. I watched the drops of water land on the deck powerfully with a sharp thud, but it did nothing to silence your voice in my head.

I looked down at my calloused hands, both slightly red and swollen. Droplets of water fell delicately into the wounds, but Harriet, they weren't from the clouds.
