Chapter one: I'm Sorry Lucy.
*Natsu's Pov*
"Lucy please stay back!" I shouted as my favorite blonde went running head on to the enemy, a determined look sparkling in her eyes.
"I cant, you always risk yourself for everyone, Natsu! This is my turn!" She cried as she gazed back over her left shoulder before returning her eyes to the foe.
"No! Lucy please!" I darted right after her, hoping to stop her from doing anything stupid.
This guy was way out of all of our leagues, there's no way we are going to survive if we stayed. But Lucy didn't seem to have caught onto that simple fact.
"Lucy, retreat!" Ezra ordered from a distance as she struck down her opponent.
"No!" Lucy pulled out her golden keys.
No, please.
She shouted something and the gate to the Celestial world opened letting none other than Loke, the leader of the Zodiac's, through to this world.
"Hahaha, your tiny spirits are no match for me, girl. You really should have listened to your friends. Now you will pay the price for your sins." The demented man Lucy was still charging at chuckled with complete amusement.
Suddenly, before I was able to get any where near her, a blinding beam of light came crashing down apon Lucy. Causing her to vanish from my sight.
From the pillar, Lucy's ear piercing wail filled the air around me. Loke, the strongest spirit she had a contract with, disappeared without a single trace.
I knew Lucy well enough to know she would never have forced Loke's gate closed like that, not before he had a chance to go through with a counter attack.
"LUCY!" I shouted in unison with Gray and Erza.
I went running, running toward the blinding light that filled the sky and had directed its power to the Celestial Wizard.
"Lucy!" I yelled again with no reply. All that was heard was screaming.
The light abruptly disappeared, leaving Lucy standing there as if she was lifeless. My heart stopped. Lifeless. Her head was bent down as if she was looking at the ground. Her pigtails must have been blown out by the blast.
Her clothes wear tattered and torn, they seemed scorched. As her head hung, I felt tears well up in my eyes.
"Lucy?" I asked quietly.
Please, Lucy. Answer me.
But there was no answer from her. I watched her as her body fell, flat on the ground as if she had no control what so ever over herself.
"You should have listened." The man spoke coldly, a heartless look in his eyes.
"LUCY!" I sprinted to her, as fast as I could force myself to go.
Bending down to her side, I noticed there was no defined movement. Her eyes were shut and her breath was very very slow. Her chest hardly raising up and down at all.
I shook her." Lucy, wake up!"
No response.
"Lucy, wake up!" I shouted, anger growing deep down inside me.
Again, no response. I laid my head on her stomach, tears fell from my eyes uncontrollably. Wanting, no, needing to hear a heartbeat.
*Back at Fairy Tail*
"Wendy, please tell me she is okay! PLEASE!" I cried to the small blue haired Dragon Slayer we had recruited a while back.
"Natsu, you have to calm down. I'm doing all I can for her!" Wendy shouted as her glowing hands seemed to be doing nothing to Lucy's mangled body.
We sat in the infirmary. It had been several hours since we were attacked, yet Lucy didn't make one single movement. This nerve racking situation was driving me to the point where I felt as if i'd lose my mind at any time.
"Wendy hurry and do something!" I yelled, my voice harsh and demanding.
"Ezra, get Natsu out of here!" Wendy shouted angrily at the red head behind us.
Ezra came up to me, grabbed me by my black vest and dragged me out of the room. I tried to fight it but her grip on me was way to tight. She threw me down outside the infirmary door. Her gaze met mine and I could see the seriousness in her eyes.
"Don't you dare come back in." She said, her voice was stiff and nearly threatening.
Tears filled my eyes once more as she slammed the door in my face. Something must be terribly wrong if they are acting like this. I didn't know how much long I could handle this.
"How is she, Natsu?" Gray questioned from a few feet down the hallway.
I stood up and turned my head to look him in the eyes. I attempted to force the tears from flowing from my eyes, but it seemed there was no stopping them.
"Hey, are you okay?" He asked as he stepped closer.
"I..don't know..." Was all I could manage to say.
I collapsed on the ground. Landing on my hands and knees. All I could do was picture the way she looked after the light had vanished. I clenched my fist. Powerless. I've been so powerless.
"Please, Lucy. Please, be okay." I whispered though my breaths.
Gray leaned down beside me and put his hand on my shoulder. Normally him and I would constantly butt heads, no matter what the situation. But this time, I could feel the comfort straight from his touch.
"Hey, she'll be fine. I'm sure of it." Without looking up I could feel his worried gaze on me.
But the only thing I could think of was the beautiful girl that came in to my life, what seemed like forever ago. I was reckless as always and let her run off, now she's here. Her motionless body won't leave my mind long enough for me to collect my thoughts.
This is all my fault. I should have stopped her before she got close to him. I shouldn't have taken her on that mission. She didn't wanna go in the first place. She wanted to stay home and I should have let her. If I would have just accepted no for an answer.
Gray pulled me up a bit and leaned me against the wall. He sat next to me as I buried my face in my knees and wrapped my arms around them.
"I should have stopped her..." I muttered through the heavy tears.
"Its gonna be okay, Natsu. Lucy is a strong girl." Gray tried to be reassuring, but his words seemed meaningless until I knew she was safe.
"Natsu! There you are!" Happy's voice rang in my ears as he came down the hall to me.
I didn't say anything, though. I couldn't, words were something I wasn't sure I had anymore.
"How is Lucy?" Happy questioned, noticing I hadn't answered him.
"From Natsu's reaction to all this I'd say not so good." Gray replied dully, emotion had slipped from his voice.
"Don't say that." I muttered beneath my breath.
"What?" Gray asked, obviously not hearing me.
"DON'T SAY THAT! Lucy...Lucy...she's fine..." I cried. "She just has to be."
I felt Happy's small paw on my arm. I looked up at him. A sad expression washed over his normally joyful face.
"We are all worried about her, Natsu. You have to be strong. She wouldn't want you to cry." The tiny cat 's words hit me.
I wiped the remaining tears away and forced a smile."Yeah, you're right. I have to be strong. Strong for her."
"That's the spirit, Firebreath!" Gray grinned.
*Three and a half hours later, in the pub*
"Natsu, we have the results." Ezra and Levy came up to me as I sat down at one of the tables.
I perked up, hoping that it was good. But when I looked at their faces, they didn't have the expressions I wished they did.
Ezra still had that stern look that always seemed to terrify me, but today that look had a different meaning. Levy was on the brink of tears, her watery eyes were red and swollen. Though it looked like she was trying to fight them back, and her bottom lip was trembling.
I stood up to face what they had to say like a man. I took a deep breath to be prepared for anything.
"How is she?" I questioned hesitantly.
"Ezra can you..." Levy chocked out. Obviously her emotions were getting in the way of talking.
Ezra nodded and pursed her lips. "Natsu, Lucy.."
"Is she alive?!" I interrupted her, thats really all I wanted to know.
Ezra smiled faintly, as if my questioned amused her. I felt my heart jump at that. "That's the good news, Lucy is not going to die."
A smile spread across my face instantly. I wanted to scream I was so happy. Lucy was going to live!
"When will she recover?!" I questioned.
"That's the bad news, during that battle, Lucy was knocked into a very deep coma. We don't know when she'll wake up." Ezra's face went back to the pained stern look.
My face fell and the gut wrenching pain from before had come back. A coma.
"Oh god, I'm so sorry, Lucy." I whispered as my head hung in disappointment.
"Wendy and I will look after her in the infirmary. But Wendy's magic seems to be having no effect on Lucy's condition." Levy said as she gathered herself.
"Can I see her?" I asked, looking up with tears swelling in my eyes.
"Come with us." Ezra nodded and spoke softly.
I followed the two through the guild and to the infirmary door. Erza and Levy stopped and turned to me before opening the door.
"Wait here, we must make sure it's okay with Wendy." Levy spoke and then walked in, Erza followed closely behind her, shutting the door in my face.
I could hear the faint voices of the girls, it was very hard to make out what they were saying. But I did manage to hear the very last part of the conversation.
"We need to tell him."
"We cant, he can not know. What if she doesn't live and it dies too. He'll have to deal with that as well."
"Are you sure it's his?"
"Well, I'm not sure actually. But I know she is."
"How far along?"
"From what I can tell, about three months."
"Are you sure you don't want to tell him?"
"Yes, I'm positive."
"Tell me what?" I whispered to myself.
Whats wrong with Lucy?
I backed up from the door to make it look as if I hadn't heard that conversation. The door suddenly opened and Levy, Ezra, and Wendy stepped out.
"You may have fifteen minutes with her alone, while we talk to the Master. Please, don't try to wake her. It won't work. You'll only end up disappointing yourself, Natsu." Wendy spoke softly before walking off in the direction of the pub where Master was sitting on the bar counter.
Ezra and Levy followed her after a minute and I entered the room. I looked around at all the empty beds searching for the one with Lucy on it. I spotted her in the bed on the far left. I slowly walked over to her after shutting the door behind me. As I got closer more of her features became visible.
I stopped at the side on the bed and look down on her. Her pretty face had no expression. Again, she seemed lifeless. Wendy had bandaged up several of her wounds and wrapped her forehead too.
I sat down next to Lucy on the bed, placing a hand on her cheek my tears began to creep up on me again.
"I'm so sorry, Lucy...I didn't want any of this to happen. I should have let you stay home like you wanted to. Then this wouldn't have happened." I spoke gently.
I wasn't sure if she could hear me or not. But I guess i didn't care. I will be telling her this again when she wakes up anyway. I just need to say it, get it off my chest. I bit my lip to keep it from trembling. A small salty tear slipped from my eye and down my warm cheek.
Lucy's brown eyes were shut gently and her lips were parted only slightly, letting small amounts of air into her barely breathing body.
She looked peaceful, her golden strands of hair were scattered over the plain white pillow making them seem brighter.Suddenly A figure appeared next to the bed. I looked up.
Loke.
"Finally, I haven't been able to pass through the barrier. How has she been?" Loke asked me as he studied her.
"She'll make it, but..." I trailed off.
"But what?" Loke looked me in the eyes with panic.
"Lucy has been knocked into a very deep coma. They don't know when she'll wake up." I sighed.
"What?! No! That cant be!" Loke cried.
I grabbed Lucy hand and stroked it lightly with my thumb as I looked down at her.
"I don't want to believe it either, Loke." I let yet another tear fall.
Loke placed a hand on my shoulder, it was surprisingly a comforting grip he had. We sat in silence as both of us cried over the damage that had been done to our Celestial Wizard. I tightened my grip on Lucy's hand. I never wanted to let her go.
"I wont ever let any happen to ever again, I promise." I whispered to her.
"Well, Natsu. I must get going. Take care of her okay?" Loke spoke as she stood firmly behind me.
"Of course."
With that, Loke disappeared back into the spirit world. I returned my gaze back to Lucy's sweet face.
"Lucy..I...I love you."
That was something I had always wanted to tell her.
Ever since I first met her. I just hope she does live to actually hear it.
