Chapter Eight: The First

*Natsu's pov*

"I just don't know what to do" I sighed.

I sat in the guild at a table with Levy, Gray, Mira, and Erza.

"It sounds to me like you need to find out how you are going to tell her, just in case you a forced to." Mira said.

"That's the thing. I really don't know how to say that. It's not any kind of thing that I'd had to have done before." I replied.

"Lucy isn't ready for this kind of thing, Natsu." Levy pointed out.

I slammed my fist on the table as gently as possible, to keep from breaking it.

"I wish none of this had happened. I wish Lucy had never come to Fairy Tail." I groaned.

"Natsu. You know that's not true." Gray said.

I looked over at him. "No? Gray, I was there. I saw it happen. We were waiting on you and Erza! If you two had shown up when you were supposed to then maybe she wouldn't be in this mess!"

"Natsu!" Erza started. "You know we were doing our best to reach you two on time. But we had no control over wheat Lucy was going to do."

My gaze shifted to her. "We did this to her, Erza."

"Maybe this is all happening for a reason." Levy pitched in.

"But why Lucy? What did she ever do wrong?" I frowned.

"Bad things happen to good people." Gray said.

"Daddy.." I heard Amaya's voice as she approached the table.

I looked over at her. "Yes, darling?"

"Lucy told me to tell you that when you get home you need to go talk to her." Amaya repeated Lucy's words to me.

"Why is there something wrong?" I asked worriedly.

"I don't know. She didn't say." And with that Amaya walked away.

I looked at everyone. "I have to go see if she is okay."

I got up and ran out of the guild, down the crowded streets in town, back home. I barged through the doors.

"Lucy?!" I shouted.

"Natsu?" I heard her reply.

"Lucy are you alright?"

"Yes, of course!" She said back.

I walked through the house till I found her in the kitchen. She looked at me as I entered.

"Why are you in such a rush?" She asked as she noticed I was out of breath.

"Amaya told me you needed to talk to me. I just wanted to make sure that something wasn't horribly wrong." I answered.

Lucy let out a small laugh. "Oh Natsu, everything is fine. You don't have to be so on edge with me all the time, Okay?"

I put both my hands on her shoulders. "Yes I do. I cant let my guard down for one second."

Her smile faded and her expression changed to one of sorrow and defeat.

"Now, what did you want to talk to me about?" I asked.

She finished making her tea and sat down at the small table I put in there for her a few weeks ago.

"It was this dream I had.." She started.

I sat down across from her to listen carefully to what she had to say.

"It was so weird. I was in a tower, tied up and being held captive. This man came in and started telling me about if i was good he'd give me a real room, instead of a cell. I distracted him and ran for the giant window. But when I looked out I was to high to get out. I remember thinking about you. Wondering if I'd see you again." She wasn't finished, I could tell. So I kept quiet.

"So I jumped...and screamed your name. But just before I hit the ground I awoke." She said looking up at me.

It took me a moment, but then I realized what she was talking about.

"Lucy.." I started. She looked up at me in question. "That wasn't just a dream. That really happened."

Lucy's questioning gaze grew greater. "What do you mean?"

"I mean, that happened years ago. Your father wanted you back. He sent an Dark guild to come retrieve you, they almost destroyed us. They locked you in that tower you were talking about just now. You really did jump from that tower. Just before you hit the ground, I caught you."

My lips formed a giant grin. "Lucy that wasn't a dream. It was a memory! Lucy you remember something!"

I was so happy. Her first memory had come back to her. Which meant she was getting better right?

"You caught me?" She asked.

"Yes. I was on my way to save you from them. I heard you scream my name. I ran. You knew I'd be there to save you." I smiled.

She looked down at the table. "Wow..."

*Lucy's pov*

I knew Natsu was telling the truth, but I still couldn't wrap my head around it. I had finally remembered something from my life before the accident. I knew that Natsu did some pretty amazing things. But I never thought I could trust someone so much to jump out of a tower on the off chance they'd be there to catch me.

It felt so real in the dream, but I didn't expect to be told that it actually happened. I looked up at Natsu. He seemed so over joyed, it was quite cute actually.

He seemed so childish at this moment. The Natsu I have come to know was more focused and serious. It was a good change at times.

"Lucy. I'm going to do what ever I can to protect you and help you regain your memories, I promise." Natsu spoke when he calmed down a little.

"You don't have to Natsu." I said.

He shook his head." I do, and you have yet to realize that. But its okay."

Natsu stood up and looked down at me, a small smile spread across his lips. "I'm going to tell Master that you have regained a memory, Okay?"

I nodded. "Alright, Natsu."

Before he left I said his name.

"Yes?"

"Thank you for catching me." I said.

"Id do it a million more times if I had to." I replied before walking out.
