Chapter 1
Bangtan members are the only original characters in this book. Rest are all fictional and created for the purpose of the story. I use similar names in all my fics to maintain stability and it's easy for me to follow.

The weather was so pleasant, not too warm or cold, slightly windy with a clear sky. Just the way he liked it. The air was crisp, fresh, and smelled homie. Does Seoul smell the same?
Busan, I'll miss you so much.
"Jungkook-ah, don't forget to call Seokjin once you get there," his mother reminded him for the umpteenth time as he loaded his luggage into his brother's car.
"Sure, mom." He closed the trunk of the car and turned to hug her, sighing into her warm embrace. "I'll miss you so much."
"I'll miss you too." She kissed his cheek. "Now get going before you are late for your train," she urged him, patting his arm. "Call me or Junghyun if you need anything." She kissed his cheek one last time before gently pushing him toward the car.
"I will."
Soon he was inside the car, waving at his mother with a heavy heart and staring at his home growing distant through the rearview mirror. Jungkook had never left Busan. It was his first time in Seoul and he was nervous.
He had never lived alone, let alone be housemates with anyone. But now he had to get used to it. Jungkook was terrified. But he wasn't going to let his fears ruin one of the best opportunities.
He had always been ambitious and worked hard for it. His family wasn't even surprised when he landed an internship at one of the up-and-coming indie game developing companies in Seoul immediately after graduation. This fall internship was everything he needed to get started and much more.
As a child, Jungkook was interested in video games just like any other child in his age group. However, as he grew up, he began to wonder what went on behind the scenes. While everyone admired the map in The Legend of Zelda, Jungkook found the open-source map editor to tinker with. He began drawing character sketches and naming them. He created universes and gave a background story to each of his characters.
He was also at the top of his class, taking a particular interest in computers and programming, always asking questions. While the others only saw him as a kid with an obsession with games and drawing, his computer teacher knew differently. Their encouragement had led Jungkook to pursue game development as a career and here he was, on his way to begin a new journey.
"Feels like it was yesterday you were asking for a new gaming console," his brother who was five years older than him said, his gaze glued to the road. "Look at you now." He grinned, throwing a glance at Jungkook. "All grown up and ready rule the gaming world."
"Hyung..." He chuckled. "It's just an internship. I have a long way to go."
His brother just rolled his eyes. Ever since their father succumbed to a terminal illness ten years ago, his brother had taken the mantle of taking care of the family. He'd worked multiple jobs along with their mother, supporting them in any way he could. Now it was Jungkook's turn.
"Seokjin will pick you from the station. Don't hesitate to contact him if you need help with anything while you're there."
"Ok, dad." Jungkook leaned back with a smile, gaze flicking out of the window.
Busan was such a beautiful place with stunning beaches, hot springs and so much more. It was everything he has known. Their home was close to the beach and he would miss that a lot once he was in Seoul.
He heard a lot about Seoul from his brother who went to the university there, which was where he met Kim Seokjin, who was now an up-and-coming actor and model. Seokjin had visited Busan a couple of times over the years. Jungkook knew Seokjin and his two younger brothers Namjoon and Taehyung well. Namjoon was a research scholar while Taehyung took after his elder brother Seokjin pursuing acting and modeling.
The youngest of the Kim brothers, Kim Taehyung was also Jungkook's only friend in Seoul. Taehyung and Jungkook grew closer when they learned their mutual love for Overwatch. Though they didn't talk much these days because of both their hectic schedules, he was looking forward to meeting him again.
Once at the train station, his brother hugged him and wished him all the best again. He boarded KTX and into the first-class, his brother booked for him. The next few hours passed by in a blur with Jungkook sketching in his sketchbook he always carried in his bag.
Excitement bubbled within him as the view of lush mountain capes and green fields faded to take him along the famous Han River and high-rise buildings into the heart of Seoul. He quickly shut his sketchbook and packed his bag, double-checking everything.
When he stepped outside, it was Namjoon who was waiting for him instead of Seokjin. The eldest flashed a dimpled grin, greeting him with a warm hug before leading him to one of the taxies.
"Jin hyung had a last-minute schedule so he sent me," he said as he helped him to load his luggage into the trunk. "Taehyungie is in Japan for a show. He'll be back in two days."
"Okay."
The ride to Seodaemun-gu took less than twenty minutes with mild traffic. "Come on. Jimin isn't home now. You can meet him in the evening." Namjoon helped him with the luggage and led him into a residential complex. The five-story building looked old but decent. They entered the clean lobby and then into the elevator. "Your apartment is on the third floor. Jiminie owns a café down the street," the older continued. "He works seven to nine on weekdays and twelve to eight on weekends." He opened the door.
"Is he your friend?"
"Yeah." Namjoon grinned. "We are coffee buddies actually. Trust me when I say he makes the best coffees. You should try it out."
Jungkook nodded, smiling as they entered the moderately spacious two-bedroom apartment that opened to a living room with an attached balcony on one side and an open concept kitchen on the other. A large black leather couch sat in the middle of the living room facing the thirty-six-inch flat screen and a small coffee table. A few magazines and newspapers were littered on the table.
The apartment was clean and smelled like a pastry shop, warm and slightly sweet. The kitchen was well-equipped. There were so many things on the counter that were used for baking. They were left as if the owner was in a hurry and a single coffee mug sat at the sink.
"Don't mind the kitchen. Jimin usually does the cleaning at night," Namjoon said. "It has two bedrooms with one bathroom." Namjoon pointed at the common bathroom that was between the two rooms. "Both rooms have huge windows and an in-built closet. That's Jimin's room and this one is yours." He pointed the room closer to the balcony. "I already texted you Jimin's contact number." He strode to the coffee table, picking up a small diary. "The Wi-Fi password and the important contact numbers like maintenance, security, and landlord are in here." He handed it to Jungkook.
Sure enough, the contact information was written in neat handwriting. There was even a number for the laundromat and restaurants. Everything was well organized. "This is nice," Jungkook found himself saying as he took in everything. There weren't any decorations outside. Still, the neutral beige walls and furniture set a cozy atmosphere Jungkook liked immediately.
"Jimin's old flatmate likes the things in a certain way," Namjoon said as if reading his thoughts. "So he never decorated the living room. But he's a very nice person, Jungkook-ah. He's only two years older than you and he's also from Busan. Moved here six years ago. You'll like him."
The youngest nodded. "Thanks for this, hyung."
"Alright, then." Namjoon checked his wristwatch. "I have to go now. Here's your key. I texted you our address. We live fifteen minutes from here. Feel free to drop by whenever you want to. I texted you the code to our door too. Jin hyung already added you to our approved guest list. Just give your name at the security desk and come up."
"Okay," Jungkook beamed, already feeling at home. "Hold on," he said, suddenly remembering the package his mom gave him. He rushed to his luggage, fumbled through his items to find the homemade kimchi and other items. "Here."
"Wow, thanks." A wide smile brightened Namjoon's face. "So, when are you joining?" he asked as Jungkook followed him out.
"I start working on Monday, but I have to go in today around four to sign some documents."
Namjoon pressed the elevator button. "Ah, you can take a taxi. It takes around ten to fifteen minutes, but the subway is cheaper. It takes about forty-five to fifty minutes though." The elevator arrived on cue and Namjoon smiled again. "See you later, Jungkook-ah."
"See you soon."
Jungkook waved his hand and retreated to his apartment once the elevator doors closed. He took a quick look around and organized the coffee table being a neat freak. He left the kitchen as it was since it looked like his flatmate was in the middle of something, but he cleaned the spilled flour and washed the dirty mug before placing it on the wire rack.
Next, he proceeded to stock the items his mom packed him into the refrigerator which was almost empty except for the eggs and a few items used for baking. He frowned wondering if Jimin ever cooked at home. There were cooking pans, but then he found an overflowing stock of ramyeon and instant noodles in one of the cabinets.
Jungkook clicked his tongue as he made a mental note to go grocery shopping on his way home. He didn't think he could live on outside food for too long. He was used to home-cooked meals and now that he was on his own, it was better if he cooked for himself. As he made his way to his room, he prayed that this Jimin was indeed a nice person like everyone said.
***
The day was a blur with Jungkook calling his mom and going to the company to sign some documents and grab his ID card. It was around eight in the evening when he stepped outside the subway station in Seodaemun-gu. The ride took fifty minutes just like Namjoon said. He'd have to buy a car once his internship was over.
He was dragging his tired feet to the apartment when he heard the merry jingle of a doorbell and a wave of sweetness flooded toward him. Toward his left was a café with glass doors on three sides. There were small round tables inside with three chairs. His eyes lit up and his stomach rumbled.
Jungkook had a sweet tooth and the pastries on the display shelf looked so yummy. Cold air hugged him as soon as he stepped inside, but the atmosphere was such a pleasant contrast to that of the air-conditioned space, which was warm and inviting.
He headed straight to the counter, going through the items on display. Jungkook was too lost in cupcakes when a melodic voice reached his ears.
"Good evening, sir. What would you like to order?"
Jungkook's head whipped up, ready to reply only for his breath to be knocked out of his lungs. He sucked in a sharp breath, his jaw visibly going slack. In front of him, stood an angel in fluffy pink hair and a white fuzzy sweater covered by an apron.
"Hello," the angel called again.
Jungkook blinked. Once. Twice. Thrice. No words came out of his mouth and his brain slowly registered that he was staring.
"You can try on our samples if you can't decide," the angel sang again and Jungkook was a goner.
His soul ascended and he didn't think he could come down anytime soon. However, he broke out of trance when another customer pushed past him. The slight brush of their shoulder was all it took for him to come to his senses. The angel was now talking to the new customer, bending to pick the pastry of their choice, packing it nicely in a paper bag, and smiling as he bid him good night.
"H-hi," Jungkook said when the angel's attention turned toward him again.
"Hi..."
Oh, God!
What was with his voice? It felt as if he was singing with each syllable.
"I-I'm new here," Jungkook blurted out.
What the heck, Jungkook?
"I moved here today." He fidgeted with his hands, shifting from one foot to the other.
What the fuck are you doing?
"Oh, welcome to the land of morning calm," the angel greeted with a blinding smile that rendered Jungkook speechless once again. "Choose a drink of your choice, it's on the house."
Jungkook nibbled at his bottom lip. "Um..." His gaze flicked around. "Can I have a vanilla latte?"
"Of course," the café owner beamed. "Take a seat. I'll bring your order right up."
Jungkook nodded wordlessly and looked around before heading to one of the corner tables that overlooked the street but also seemed cozy. It didn't take long before the pink-haired angel approached him with his order.
"Thank you," he murmured, watching him leave with the same smile.
How could someone be so beautiful?
The café owner whose name he was yet to learn was the most beautiful man he had ever set his eyes on. His soft monolids with long lashes looked so dreamy and formed a crescent shape when he smiled.
Oh, that smile...
He had a perfectly straight nose like that of centuries-old sculptures. Jungkook longed to trace that perfect plain down to his plump, pink lips. He hadn't dared to look at his voluptuous lips after the first time. He didn't think he'd be able to look anywhere else if he did.
Jungkook forced his gaze to the street when he realized he was staring again and sipped his coffee. A moan almost slipped out at how good it tasted.
Wow.
That was the best fucking vanilla latte he ever had. A huge grin stretched his lips as he sipped the heavenly coffee making a mental note to never drink coffee anywhere else. The coffee was over in a matter of minutes and he was a little sad that it finished.
With a defeated sigh, he stood wondering if the café owner would think differently if he ordered another cup. Then he remembered it was free. He should come back tomorrow. The man was just being nice and he didn't want to take advantage of his kindness. At the same time, he didn't want to leave empty-handed either.
"Hi," the angel greeted again with the same smile. "Did you like your coffee?"
"It's the best coffee I ever had!" Jungkook praised.
The angel chuckled. "I think you're just being humble."
"I'm telling you the truth. Nothing can even come close to your vanilla latte. I swear I'm never drinking coffee elsewhere," he said with such seriousness that the café owner dissolved into a fit of laughter.
Jungkook stared as the man slightly bent, one hand covering his mouth and one hand planted on the counter. The merry giggle sounded like that of a wind chime.
So beautiful.
Jungkook smiled just happy that he was the reason for that laughter. The angel stopped after a moment and they stared at each other for a long minute before the café owner blinked his eyes and cleared his throat.
"Do you need anything else?"
Jungkook schooled his thoughts and looked around. "Um...Can I take those?" He pointed at the cupcakes he was eying on earlier.
"Excellent choice!" The angel smiled before proceeding to pack them in a nice confectionery box. "How many pieces do you need?"
Jungkook nibbled at his bottom lip. "I'm not sure. Ah...it's um...for someone else."
"Oh, is this someone so special?" He cocked a brow curiously.
Jungkook's eyes widened at the former's innocent question. "N-No. I-I'm single." His cheeks flared as he averted his gaze to the cupcakes. "It's um...for my flatmate. I thought it'd be nice to bring something." He fidgeted with his fingers.
"Okay," the café owner chimed. "I'll pack six. Is that okay?"
Jungkook nodded eagerly. "Y-Yeah. That's fine."
"That'd be ₩ 24,000. Will that be all?"
"Yes, thank you." He pulled out his wallet to pay. Jimin would like them, wouldn't he? He had no idea who his flatmate was but he thought it was a nice gesture to greet him with something sweet.
The café owner handed him the change and the confectionary box. "Please leave us a review if you like our coffee and pastries." He slipped a pamphlet into his paper bag. "Thank you for visiting Coffee Bloom. Good night."
Jungkook nodded jerkily, already feeling sad that he has to leave. "Good night." He stepped back half-heartedly. This place was on the way to the subway from his apartment. He could visit every day. The thought alone brightened his mood and he waved at the café owner. "See you tomorrow."
The café owner only beamed with a slight wave of his hand as Jungkook walked out of the café with a permanent grin on his face.
The grocery shopping took longer than he expected as he decided to stock everything he needed for a month apart from vegetables and meat. He didn't think he would have time for cooking breakfast or lunch, but he was determined to make dinner.
It was when he reached his apartment that he realized he hadn't asked for the café owner's name. Such a shame. That could be rectified tomorrow. He could always have a cup of coffee. With that he got to work.
Jimin arrived by the time Jungkook was putting away the last of the sauces he bought. Most of the cabinets were empty, the majority of which he stocked to their full capacity now.
"Hello?"
Jungkook thought he imagined the voice or perhaps his mind was too occupied imagining his café crush that he was hearing everything in his voice. He stood hurriedly knocking his head on the counter before turning around with a hiss of pain. His jaw fell open for the second time that night as he saw the angel standing in front of him with a look that mirrored him.
"Jungkook?" His flatmate asked and he could only nod. So this must be Jimin.
Jiminie owns a café down the street.
Namjoon's words replayed in his mind. How could he know? There were at least two more café down the street.
"Um...you're Jimin?"
Jimin blinked before rewarding him with that eye smile. "So those cupcakes were for me." He pointed at the confectionary box he left at the counter earlier.
Jungkook rubbed the back of his neck, his cheeks flaring. "Ah, yeah. Um...I-I didn't know it's you."
Jimin walked closer. "It's okay. I do love cupcakes." He eyed the box. "Especially the ones I make."
Both stood awkwardly in the kitchen with a small smile before Jimin broke the silence.
"I'm sorry about the kitchen. I was in a hurry this morning." Jimin moved to the counter and hurriedly began to put the items away.
"It's fine."
"Oh, you washed the mug." He paused at the sink, head tilted to the side as he looked at Jungkook.
"Um..." Jungkook scratched his head. "It's nothing. A habit I guess."
"You didn't have to do that," he said softly, his expression changing something akin to fondness.
"I don't mind." Jungkook offered a smile. "I do it all the time back home."
Jimin pursed his lips, looking down at his feet briefly before those brown orbs flicked up to meet his gaze. "So, do you like the apartment?"
"Yeah. It's cozy and nice," Jungkook answered.
"Do you need help with anything?" Jimin looked around.
"No. I'm all done."
The silence stretched before Jimin broke it again. "You can decorate the living room if you want," he offered. "I normally use the bathroom around six in the morning and around this time in the evening. Just tell me if you want to make any adjustments."
"That's fine. I don't have to be at work before ten."
His gaze traveled down Jimin's slender frame now that he wasn't behind the counter like earlier. He was a few inches shorter than him but looked fragile. Though there was a permanent smile playing on his lips, it wasn't radiant like the one he saw in the café. Probably it was because he was exhausted.
"That's cool." He looked around for a moment. "I need to shower."
"Okay." Jimin turned around and Jungkook realized he needed to cook dinner. "Wait."
Jimin stopped, looking over his shoulder.
"Um...did you have dinner?"
"Not yet. Are you going to cook?"
"Yeah." Jungkook looked around belatedly realizing he forgot to buy cooking pans. "Shit. I forgot the pans."
"You can use mine. It's the cabinet down to your left." Jimin pointed at the cabinet. "I don't mind. I also have ramyeon. It's on the top right shelf. You can take as much as you want." He smiled.
"I...um...okay." Jungkook looked down at his feet. "I brought Kimchi." He wasn't ready for Jimin to disappear from his sight again.
Jimin's face lit up. "Yeah?"
Jungkook nodded. "It's in the fridge. Mom packed me a few things. You can take whatever you want."
It only seemed fair to offer his things when Jimin was being so kind. First, with the coffee and now offering to share his stack of ramyeon. That brought him into another realization. Jimin probably was surviving mainly on ramyeon and instant noodles than actual food. His cabinets were nearly empty save for the baking items.
"Thanks, Jungkook-ah." Jimin's words brought him out of his thoughts. "I'll keep that in mind."
The youngest nodded curtly as Jimin headed to his room and then to his shower. He continued to stare at the direction Jimin disappeared into before making a split decision to cook for Jimin. He grabbed three packets of ramyeon and the pork he bought.
If they were going to stay together, they have to get along well. What better way than to start if it wasn't for a nice dinner? Besides, eating alone didn't sound appealing to Jungkook. He was used to eating with his family.
He was good at everything he tried his hand on and that included cooking too. He learned to cook at the tender age of thirteen when he noticed how exhausted his mother was after a long day at work. It was hard to watch her cook dinner for both of them while hiding her tiredness.
The young Jungkook just wanted to do something to help his mom. So he thought of a way and one day cooked a dish he learned at school. It wasn't anything fancy and he didn't recall it tasting that good. But his mother praised his skills nevertheless. The reward was his mother's proud smile and a warm hug. That day she also had more time to spend with him and Jungkook made it his mission to cook for her every night just so she could rest and spend that time with him instead.
Cooking was also something that relaxed him after spending hours in front of a computer. It was how he showed the others that he cared. Being an introvert, the action came easily than words for Jungkook.
Though he was the youngest, he had gotten used to taking care of them in his own way. Probably it was one of the reasons he felt the need to care for Jimin as well. The older's exhaustion and weariness didn't sit well with him.
By the time he divided the ramyeon and broth into two bowls he found in the cabinet, Jungkook was proud of his cooking skills. He added the enoki mushrooms over the hot broth, followed by the pork slices, half-sliced soft boiled egg, and the chopped spring onions giving it a final touch.
"Wow! It smells wonderful in here."
Jimin was fresh out of the shower, his wet towel hung from his shoulder and he was in a plain white t-shirt and black shorts. His pink hair was wet and disheveled.
Once again, Jungkook forgot to breathe. He was just perfect. Even with a bare face and unkempt hair, his beauty knew no bounds.
Jungkook belatedly realized he had a severe crush on his flatmate now. It had been ages since he felt this way, but there was no mistaking the feelings. His heart raced inside his chest and he couldn't look away from the fine specimen of a man standing in front of him.
"You made two bowls," Jimin observed, coming closer.
Jungkook broke out of his stupor, nodding vehemently. "I thought we could eat together."
Jimin eyed the food and then at Jungkook. For a moment, Jungkook thought the older would put up a fight and he'd have to persuade him to share the meal with him. He watched the conflicted emotions swirling on Jimin's face as clear as a day before his shoulders slumped in defeat.
"T-That's very nice of you." He pulled a chair to sit at their small dining table with a forced smile. "I don't remember the last time someone cooked for me."
"I will cook every day if you want," Jungkook blurted out before he could make sense of his words. Jimin froze slightly in his chair. "I-I mean...I like to cook and um...we live together. I can...cook?"
Jimin stared with a look of disbelief before shaking his head with a small smile. "Don't spoil me," he mumbled, his voice barely audible as he grabbed the chopsticks. "Sit. I'm famished. You must be hungry too."
Jungkook pulled the chair hurriedly to sit and grabbed a pair of chopsticks for himself. He waited for Jimin to taste the food, wondering if he liked his cooking. If the look of pure bliss on Jimin's face and the appreciative hum was anything to go by, Jimin loved it. The youngest beamed and dug into his food.
They ate in comfortable silence, both too hungry to strike a conversation. They polished the dishes in a matter of minutes and Jimin leaned back in his chair with a contented sigh.
"Thank you so much, Jungkook. It was delicious." He rubbed his stomach with a contented grin.
Jungkook beamed. "You're welcome. So you'll let me cook for you every day?"
Jimin chuckled. He looked thoughtful for a moment before he replied, "I'm not saying no to that. But only if you let me make breakfast for you."
He wasn't a morning person, so that was a decent bargain. "And coffee," Jungkook added.
"And coffee," Jimin readily agreed.
As Jungkook glanced at Jimin, he just knew this was going to be wonderful. His crush turned out to be his new flatmate and he was determined to win him over. Well, if he was into a man that was. The question almost slipped out before he stopped himself.
Too soon, Jungkook.
Too soon.
***
Jimin couldn't believe he got lucky with his new flatmate this time. The young gamer was down to earth with such a lovable personality. Jimin has been living in Seoul for over six years now and has been through all sorts of roomies. Some made him want to pull his hair or made him want to choke them, some were downright infuriating, some distant and lost to their own world, some friendly and got along well.
His previous flatmate Hwang was an oddball with a specific way of living who made Jimin feel like a stranger in his own apartment. But as a struggling entrepreneur who exhausted all his life savings to open up a café, Jimin couldn't afford the rent alone. He barely made the ends meet as it was with only breaking even each month. So he had put up with his overbearing ass as long as he could.
That was until his coffee buddy Namjoon told him about Jungkook, who was moving to Seoul. The research scholar had vouched that Jungkook was the sweetest boy he ever met and Jimin would have no trouble with him. Also, the video game artist was from Busan as well. Jimin hadn't thought twice before asking Hwang to vacate.
However, when the day came he was more nervous than anything. He didn't want a repeat of last time and he hadn't even met his new flatmate before he had agreed. He solely trusted Namjoon and Namjoon alone. It wouldn't be too hard now that his business was picking up and he had seen a little profit in the past two months.
His Yoongi hyung often said he was too good for this world. That he loved without expecting anything in return and was too kind. Perhaps it was true. His history with the past three relationships was proof enough. His luck with them was shit.
Jimin was a sensitive lover but also a generous giver in a relationship. When he loved he loved harder and went on all out. Yoongi often chided him for wearing his heart on his sleeve. Perhaps it was why he got hurt often. His lovers only took and took, never giving anything back and taking advantage of his kindness. In the end, he was always left with a feeling of being used.
He was miserable in his last relationship so much so that it made him swore off men. These days he focused only on getting his café to a good place. So when the cute doe-eyed stranger entered the café like every other customer, he should have minded his own business and did what he would do with any other customer. However, when he saw how flustered the stranger was, he hadn't thought twice before offering a free drink.
If Yoongi was there he'd have tsked at him and berated him for being weak. But can you blame Jimin? Jungkook wasn't even his type in general but he couldn't help but swoon at the doe-eyed man with the most innocent smile. His eyes were such a perfect shade of brown just like his favorite shot of espresso.
When he ordered cupcakes, Jimin couldn't help but ask if he had someone special though it was none of his business. A part of him chastised him for being too upfront, but a part of him was too curious and prayed that the stranger was single. Jungkook's response had made his entire day for some unknown reason. The rush of warmth was all too familiar but also something much more.
No, Jimin. Get your shit together.
Once Jungkook left, he had reigned in his thoughts and told himself that it was just the heat of the moment and he wouldn't let it happen again. But the human heart was strange. It dared to hope even when things were dire and he would be hundred percent sure it won't happen. Before long, he was shutting down the café and hoping that the stranger would stop by his café again. He hadn't even asked Jimin's name yet.
Jimin had smiled wanting to gush all about him to Yoongi already but held back knowing what the older would say. He met Yoongi, who was his senior in school. They lived in the dorm together and had eventually become close friends.
Yoongi, though appeared cold on the outside was truly caring and the only person he could rely on in Seoul. They stuck through thick and thin and he was Jimin's only emotional support. The upcoming music producer now played with big leagues, but always stayed humble about it. Their friendship was still strong and he always made time for Jimin.
When he reached his apartment he couldn't help the anxiety twisting in his gut. The guy would be inside. He went over a few things he wanted to discuss with the guy in his head and opened the door, immediately finding the guy crouched in the kitchen in front of the cabinets.
This time Jimin was the one who was rendered speechless because those wide doe-eyes that haunted him on his way home were now staring at him in a bewildered manner. He managed to push through the initial awkwardness and strike a conversation, taken more by this shy man in front of him.
Jeon Jungkook was sweet.
He was everything Namjoon said he was and maybe more. Because none of his past flatmates had offered a meal to Jimin before. They had shared a few take-outs and watched a couple of movies some rare days, but this...
He swallowed the thick emotional lump that formed in his throat, deeply touched by this thoughtful action. After a long, tiring day at the café, the only thing he had in mind was how soon he could get to his bed. Despite being a great cook, he barely had any energy left after work to make a decent dinner.
But being greeted by two bowls of steaming food, waiting to be consumed was such a delicious blow to Jimin. He was damn near tears when Jungkook offered him a bowl. It reminded him of his dear mom who always had food ready when he came home.
They finished the food in silence and Jungkook had once again surprised him by saying he'd do the dishes. He hadn't allowed Jimin anywhere near the sink and despite his protests proceeded to wash the dishes.
When they resigned to the couch for some TV time, Jimin's eyes were already drooping and Jungkook once again forced him to go to sleep early. With his stomach full and mind content, he had slept with a smile on his face.
The following day, Jimin stuck to his word, making breakfast to Jungkook before he left and in turn, he always had dinner ready when he came home after work. The weekend was gone in a jiffy and by now Jimin could only hope that their harmony lasted long because whatever they had was too good to be true.
***
Jungkook had woken up too early for his liking, his brain too excited to stay asleep on his first day at work. He'd begrudgingly dragged himself out of bed and proceeded to do his daily workout routine. Jimin had left early being a weekday and he found the note stuck on the fridge.
Stop by the café on your way to the office.
-Jimin
Jungkook smiled to himself and went to get ready for the day. He'd gotten to know Jimin more during the past two days. The older's beauty ran deep and he had the kindest soul. Jungkook also met with Jin and Namjoon on Sunday. Taehyung was still in Japan and was expected to be back tonight.
He paired his white button-up shirt and grey fitted slacks with a black, grey, and blue striped patterned weave tie. It was a gift from his mother.
Jungkook confidently began to tie his tie around his neck only to curse when he messed with the knot. He followed the YouTube tutorial to the dot, then why? He pouted glaring at the two ends. He should have done this last night but it had totally slipped his mind.
He was running late. Not really. He still had time, but he wanted to spend some time in the Cafe and eat his breakfast in peace. Hands down Jimin made the best sandwiches. Well, whatever Jimin made was great.
He tried to tie it again, failing miserably, and gave up. With a huff, he left it as it was around his shoulder. He will try it once he was in the subway. Maybe watch a video or two again and follow through.
Jungkook grabbed his bag and checked if he had everything he needed before leaving the apartment. Jimin greeted him with his trademark smile and melodic voice when he entered the Cafe. It was moderately busy with working people stopping by for a quick bite or ordering coffee to go.
The older beamed at the sight of him, beckoning him over.
"Good morning, hyung," he greeted.
"Good morning," Jimin chirped. "Come in here." He opened the small door that separated the counter from the general area and invited him in before handing him a wrapped breakfast roll. "I'll get your coffee."
Jungkook peeled the wrapper and took a huge bite, letting his gaze scan the Cafe, the part-time staff whose name he learned as Hannah flitted around taking orders.
Jimin came back with his coffee to go. "Aren't you tying that?" He pointed at his tie.
The younger grabbed the wide end of the tie, a pout forming in his lips. "I messed up," Jungkook complained. "The knot is too complicated."
Jimin chuckled. "Come here. Hyung will do it for you." He grabbed the ends of the tie, tying it expertly before securing the knot against his neck.
Jungkook forgot to chew, staring at Jimin. Up close he was even prettier. His skin was flawless and smooth like butter. The youngest swallowed averting his gaze with huge difficulty, not wanting to come off as a weirdo.
"You're fast." Jungkook took another bite to keep his mouth busy and stop it from blurting out something embarrassing like how delicious Jimin's cheeks looked. He would totally munch on them.
Jimin only smiled in response, proceeding to smooth his shirt as if he had done it before and the youngest melted at the gesture. He could definitely get used to this. Damn. He would never learn to tie his tie properly if it meant Jimin would do it for him every day.
He polished off his breakfast roll and grabbed his coffee, sighing contently as he took a sip and checked the time.
"Thanks, hyung," he beamed. "Wish me luck."
"All the best," he chirped before turning to Hannah who handed him a paper bag. "Here. I made gimbap for lunch. Enjoy your first day."
Jungkook's eyes grew round at the gesture and he took the bag, quickly surveying its contents. "You packed lunch for me?"
"It's the least I can do."
Jungkook was speechless for a moment and he had to shake his head to clear his thoughts. That's it. He'd be a fool if he let this man walk away. However, their moment was broken when someone cleared their throat.
"Oh, Yoongi hyung!" Jimin greeted, his smile suddenly growing bigger and he rushed out of the counter, hugging the man. The other man eyed him or more like glared at him making him squirm in his place as he wrapped his hands around Jimin's waist.
Jungkook pursed his lips, slightly deflated at the open show of affection. He ducked his head before putting his lunch inside the bag and grabbed the coffee.
"Hyung, this is Jungkook, my new housemate. Jungkook, this is Yoongi hyung."
"Hello, nice to meet you." Jungkook forced a smile, bowing as he greeted the man.
The man nodded curtly before turning to speak to Jimin, dismissing him just like that and Jungkook took that as his cue to leave. All the happiness he felt that morning seeming to drain away at the simple encounter.
What did he think? He should have known better. Maybe they were just friends. Maybe they were more than friends. Maybe Jimin behaved that way to all his friends. It reminded Jungkook how much less he knew of Jimin. Hell, he didn't even know if Jimin was into men yet.
That cheered him up a bit. But he felt how Jimin treated him differently. He didn't imagine all that. The lunch box in his bag was proof. He was sure Jimin didn't do this for his previous flatmates.
Don't conclude anything now Jungkook. You should know better than that, he chided himself and hitched his bag higher.
It was still too soon. He had enough time to figure that out. He was keen to figure Jimin out.

"What was that?" Yoongi's voice was deep, etched with irritation but it sounded overprotective than anything else to Jimin. The older was always like that. He didn't trust easily.
"What was what?" Jimin feigned innocence as he prepared Yoongi's iced Americano.
"You're whipped for that boy. It's not even three days and you're fawning over him already." Yoongi cut to the chase not even bothering to hide his disdain.
Jimin sighed. "Hyung, it's not like that."
"Then what is it like?" He planted his elbows on the counter and leaned forward. "Enlighten me, Min."
"He is not like the others."
"Sure." Yoongi's pursed lips told him everything he needed. His hyung was pissed.
"Hyung..." Jimin called exasperatedly. "It's really not what you think. He's sweet and I'm just being nice to him."
"Yeah. Since when did you fix breakfast and pack lunch for your flatmates?" Yoongi retorted. This was one thing about his best friend. Yoongi never sugar-coated things and he never held back. His words were honest to the core and always a bitter pill to swallow. Perhaps, if he had listened to him, he wouldn't have ended up with an asshole.
Jimin's shoulder hunched and he decided to be truthful. "Since he started making me dinner."
Yoongi's brows shot up in surprise. "That kid made you dinner?" He pointed at where Jungkook was standing earlier.
Jimin put the iced coffee on the counter pushing it toward the older. He waited until Yoongi had taken a sip. Yoongi with caffeine in his system was more approachable and reasonable. He watched as the older sigh and drank more of his coffee. The grumpiness in his face faded to some extent.
"Yeah." Jimin smiled. "He moved in last Friday and um...when I came back from the shower, he invited me to share the meal he cooked. He's been cooking every night after that. So we struck up a deal. I make him breakfast in return. Today was his first day at the job so I thought I'd pack some lunch." He shrugged looking down at his hand. "I'm just repaying his kindness, hyung."
"Always going the extra mile, aren't we?" Yoongi regarded him for a long moment. "Is that all?"
Jimin sighed. Nothing escaped his hyung's eyes. "He's nice. Really sweet," he mumbled. "There's nothing more. It's just three days, hyung. It's too early to say anything."
Yoongi nodded after a while. "I just don't want you to get hurt again. Just be careful and don't let anyone take advantage of your kindness again."
"I won't. Besides, I just thought we could be friends. Makes my life easier you know." It sounded convincing even if his heart was hoping for something different.
Yoongi hummed non-committedly. Jungkook was different. He knew it. The younger was the first to show an act of kindness toward him. Unlike with the others, it went both ways and Jimin respected that. If everything went well, he would have another friend. It was a win-win.
"He's my housemate. We have to get along," Jimin continued. "I don't want a repeat of Hwang."
Yoongi grunted but said nothing.
"Here, hyung." Jimin handed him a croissant knowing the older preferred something light in the morning. "You sure you don't want lunch?"
Yoongi waved him off. "You know I can always get lunch at my company cafeteria. I'll forget to eat even if I carry it anyway."
That was true. Making Yoongi eat was a task in itself. The older often forgot to eat his food when he worked. He could go for days without eating or sleeping when he was immersed in something. And he can also sleep for hours at a stretch like a bear in hibernation.
Fortunately, Yoongi had become friends with one of the company's choreographers who always made sure he ate on time. Jung Hoseok was a ball of sunshine with a permanent bright smile on his face. They'd met only a handful of times and Jimin had no doubt they'd soon become close friends. Their busy schedules prevented them from meeting often, but they got along so well.
"Alright, see you then."
"Take care, kid," Yoongi said. "Just be careful."
"I will."
Jimin watched his hyung go with a smile on his face. The door jingled and more customers walked in. With a smile, Jimin quickly got back to work.
The day was busy as usual and by the time evening rolled around, Jimin's back and legs ached from standing for too long. The sale was pretty high today with more customers coming in. He was excited but the exhaustion didn't let him rejoice. He needed to hire one more staff to work full-time but that'd have to wait until he could get back on his feet.
Exhausted and overworked, he hardly had any strength as he shut the café that night. He dragged his tired limbs to his apartment which was a ten-minute walk. He was really lucky that he found his apartment at an affordable rate.
At first, Jimin was just an employee at the bakery that was there. When his former employer decided to sell the shop and retire early, he decided to buy it himself and turned it into a café. So far, it had worked out well.
The delicious aroma of food greeted him as soon as he opened the door and an involuntary smile lifted the corners of his mouth. His stomach rumbled reminding him how hungry he was. The sandwich he had sometime around three had kept him going till now. He has to take care of himself more. If Yoongi hyung found out he wasn't eating properly again, he'd flip. Jimin really didn't want that.
"Hyung, you're home." Jungkook's hair was still wet from the shower. His smile turned into a frown when he raked his eyes over him. "You okay, hyung?"
Jimin blinked, looking down at himself. "Yeah. Why?"
Jungkook approached him with the same concerned look. "Nothing. You look exhausted. Hard day at work?"
Jimin smiled, warmth spreading in his chest. No one except Yoongi hyung had bothered to ask him that. "I'm a little tired," he answered honestly. "The sale was good though."
Jungkook wordlessly took his bag. "Come on. The dinner is ready." He put the bag on the couch and headed to the dining table. His mouth watered at the sight of hot Kimchi Jjigae and sticky rice cooked perfectly.
Jimin's stomach rumbled again and he didn't think twice before he dug in, shoveling the hot spoon of heaven into his mouth. He almost moaned at how good it tasted. "This is so good," he mumbled with the food in his mouth.
Before he knew he had finished the food and was leaning back in his chair with a contented smile. Oh, how good it felt to eat a proper meal after such a long day. His energy was already replenishing.
"Thanks, Jungkook-ah." He sighed as he closed his eyes briefly. "How was your first day?" he continued without waiting for the younger's reply.
"It was good."
Jungkook was already clearing the dishes. Jimin didn't even try this time knowing Jungkook wouldn't allow him to do the dishes. Also, he barely had any energy left. He contemplated if he should shower or just wash up for the night.
"Namjoon hyung told me you're a video game artist." Jimin opened his eyes leaning forward on his elbows. "What do you do exactly?"
"I'm a concept and character artist," he answered while his hands worked. "I make concert art sketches and character sketches. I'm also good at Animation."
"That's nice. So you draw a lot."
"I do." Jungkook grinned.
"You must be really good at it."
Jungkook shrugged as he put all the clean dishes on the wire rack and wiped his hands. "I like to think I am. My brother and mom say I'm the best. But I have a lot to learn though."
Jimin smiled at his humble response. "Will you show me your art?"
"Sure. Gimme a moment."
Jungkook's smile was so bright that Jimin had to look away for a moment as the former skipped to his room with a bounce in his steps. When he came back with a sketchbook, Jimin was already on the couch. The youngest plopped beside him, their knees touching as he opened his sketchbook.
Jeon Jungkook was freaking talented. His sketches were full of life and Jimin felt his passion at every stroke of those pencil lines. It was so beautiful. Though Jungkook called them rough sketches, it looked so perfect to Jimin. If the rough sketches in Jungkook's words looked like this, he could only imagine what finished work would look like.
"I do most of the drawing on my tablet." He picked the tablet that was already on the coffee table. He tapped on it, revealing the incomplete art he must have been working on. He quickly went back to his folders, pulling up the completed ones.
"These are beautiful." Jimin was gaping. The character sketches were just so perfect that they astounded him. With pops of colors, they looked so vibrant. Jungkook had so many characters ranging from the cute, big-eyed ones to the warrior-like characters with weapons and some different creatures he didn't recognize.
Jimin hadn't seen Jungkook so enthusiastic before. His beautiful doe-eyes were wide and twinkled every time he explained about art he created. It was so contagious that Jimin genuinely wanted to know more about his art.
"You're so talented. I was right. You are so good at it," Jimin mumbled sleepily when Jungkook put away the tablet. He felt guilty for yawning and the younger had caught onto his exhaustion, stopping his story and urging him to sleep.
"Thanks, hyung. You have a long day tomorrow. Come on, let's call it a night."
Jimin climbed to his feet, his eyes already drooping. "I'm sorry, Jungkook-ah. I wish I could stay a little longer. Your art is fascinating."
"It's okay, hyung."
But Jimin couldn't shrug off the guilt. He yawned again. He really tried to hold it in but he let it slip somehow giving in to his body's urge to rest. "Will you show me the rest later?"
Jungkook smiled softly at him. "Of course, I will. Good night, hyung."
"Good night." He blinked his heavy eyes, slowly heading to the bathroom to relieve himself and wash up quickly before he fell asleep and skipped the routine altogether. Ten minutes later, when he climbed under the sheets in only his boxers, too tired to change, he was out like a light the moment his head hit the pillow.
***
In the following weeks, Jimin and Jungkook had fallen into a routine. It wasn't like there wasn't any disagreement. They had a lot of them.
Jimin made breakfast and packed lunch for Jungkook while the latter cooked a nice dinner for the former. But the first argument came when it came to the grocery. While both had settled to share the expenses equally, Jimin insisted that he'd buy while Jungkook insisted he'd do it.
Jungkook's reasoning was valid. He had a weekend off while Jimin worked even on weekends. So, Jungkook didn't really mind doing grocery shopping. Jungkook also had taken over laundry and cleaning, since he liked doing that despite Jimin's protest.
Well, it wasn't that easy. Jungkook just finished everything before Jimin could. After grumbling for the first few times, Jimin gave up. Because Jungkook was just stubborn when he wanted to be.
Jimin in turn refused to charge for his coffee or anything he ordered from the café, which was fine. He now ordered different types of coffee every morning, but vanilla lattes were still superior.
Jungkook still hadn't learned to tie his tie properly. Perhaps, it was on purpose. He liked it when Jimin did that for him. It became their little routine he always looked forward to.
Two months had passed and Jungkook had settled comfortably in his new home, Seoul. His team was wonderful with fresh graduates just like him and was super friendly. Their supervisor was a middle-aged woman married with two children and an absolute sweetheart. Jungkook learned a lot of things and loved his new job. Work was fun. When he boarded the train to Seoul, he definitely wasn't expecting to enjoy his work so much.
He spent the weekends mostly with Taehyung playing overwatch or having a movie marathon with the Kim brothers. On a rare day when all the siblings were present, they went clubbing. Since Seokjin and Taehyung were among popular folks they went to the high-end clubs that offered privacy and Jungkook did enjoy it very much. He was young, out of his nest, and on his own. He loved this freedom and everything that came along with it.
It was one such weekend. Taehyung had to leave early in the morning for a shoot so Jungkook left home instead of staying over like he did. The apartment was silent as ever when he arrived, the lights were off with the TV running in the background.
Is Jimin awake?
Jungkook toed off his shoes and padded through the dark living room, illuminated only by the TV and the little light coming through the balcony door. He frowned pausing to take a proper look at his housemate.
Jimin was asleep on the couch, one knee bend and one arm folded to support his head. He was still in his work clothes and hasn't even removed his socks or washed his face. His lips were slightly parted as he softly snored. Pink hair formed hallow around his head with the lights from TV making his skin glow. He looked ethereal even in his exhausted state. On the table were an empty pack of chips and three empty bottles of soju.
Did he not eat anything else?
The youngest mostly left on Friday nights after dinner and came back on Sunday. Jimin was usually asleep in his room by when he came home. So he really had no clue as to how Jimin spent his weekends. He contemplated for a moment before proceeding to clean the table out of habit and switched off the TV.
He checked the kitchen and he was right. There were no used pans in the sink or the drying ones in the rack. It looked the same like he left it last night. He checked Jimin's instant noodles stack, quickly taking inventory and noticing he hadn't used it. A sigh drifted off Jungkook's lips.
The position Jimin lay would surely give him pain the next morning. With a sigh, he bent supporting an arm under Jimin's upper torso and knees, hoisting him up with ease. He was surprised at how light he weighed. Jimin stirred lightly in his arms, settling against his chest. Jungkook marveled at how perfectly he fit in his arms as he strode to Jimin's room.
He'd been here a couple of times, mostly to collect dirty laundry and clean. Jimin's room was so cozy with warm colors and decors that were so like him. And it always smelled clean and nice. Jungkook laid him on the bed, pulling the covers over him and tucking him in gently.
For the first time in two months, Jungkook wondered how Jimin spent his weekends. Was he always alone? He knew for a fact that he worked on weekends too, but he thought he'd at least have some friends who'd come over or he could go for a visit. It also bothered him that Jimin might have slept on an empty stomach.
Jungkook pursed his lips, an unknown emotion surging through him. Did he have a bad day? Jimin looked so peaceful in his sleep that Jungkook couldn't help but admire him. He had to shake his head a couple of times to break off the trance and soon he was out of the door.
Jungkook hadn't given it much thought earlier. They spend their weeknights after dinner watching TV and making small light-hearted talks. Their conversations mostly surrounded Busan and their childhood. Now that he recalled all the times they talked, he realized Jimin never really mentioned any other friends except for Yoongi and Hoseok. He met Yoongi a couple of times when he stopped by Jimin's café for breakfast, but that was all.
It wasn't his fault, but he felt so stupid for leaving him alone. Perhaps, he should have checked in on him and asked about his plans for the weekend. Perhaps, he should have invited him over. He was sure Taehyung wouldn't mind. The model would love Jimin immensely. Or maybe he should invite Taehyung over instead of him going there.
With all these thoughts clouding his mind, Jungkook quickly got ready for bed and slid under his covers, soon giving into the arms of sleep.
***
Jimin woke up around ten on Sunday morning, stretching his exhausted limbs only to realize he was in his bed. He blinked wondering how he made it to bed last night. The last thing he remembered he was mindlessly watching something on the TV.
His head was pounding and he rubbed his temples to relieve some pain. If that wasn't enough his stomach growled, reminding him he hadn't eaten anything since lunch yesterday. Yoongi hyung would be furious if he found out.
He sat up with a groan, searching for his phone, finding it on his bedside table, plugged into charge overnight. His frown deepened. He definitely did not do that. Odd.
Was Jungkook home last night?
He must have come because now he saw a glass of water and a hangover pill beside it. Jimin popped the pill into his mouth and washed it off with water, sighing when he realized how parched his throat was. There was a bad taste in his mouth reminding him that he had dozed off without brushing his teeth.
Crap.
He grabbed the phone, unplugging it from the charger and checking the few messages he received from his hyung.
Yoongi hyung:
I'm sorry I couldn't come over last night.
How are you feeling now?
Jimin:
I'm fine, hyung.
Just woke up.
He noticed Yoongi typing immediately.
Yoongi hyung:
I'll order food.
Don't forget to eat before you leave.
Just then he heard a small clatter outside his room and the heaviness he felt since yesterday lifted off just like that. Jungkook was still here.
Jimin:
I don't feel like eating anything, hyung.
I'll have an apple or something.
Yoongi hyung:
Min...please I know you haven't eaten anything last night.
I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you yesterday.
This is the least I can do.
Jimin pursed his lips as his shoulders sagged. Yoongi always knew him.
Jimin:
Hyung...
Please don't say sorry.
You've always been there for me. Last night wasn't that bad. I drank soju and fell asleep while watching a movie. I promise I'm fine.
I'll eat something at the café.
It's just my stomach is a bit upset.
Yoongi hyung:
Okay, Min.
I trust you. Eat, please.
Jimin:
I will, hyung.
Yoongi hyung:
I'll come over tonight.
I get off work around seven.
Jimin:
Okay.
Bring lamp skewers from that place near your office.
He vaguely remembered Jungkook telling him he loved lamp skewers during dinner one day and this place sold the best he ever tasted. Jimin wasn't sure if Jungkook would leave again but since it was Sunday he hoped not.
Yoongi hyung:
Sure.
Take care, kid.
The door to his room creaked open and Jungkook entered with the laundry basket only to pause when he saw Jimin. "You're awake." His lips formed an involuntary smile. "Did you take the pill?"
"Yeah." Jimin returned the smile, running his hands through his hair in an attempt to tame it. "You're home early."
Jungkook nodded as he opened the curtains to let the light in and went to Jimin's laundry hamper. "Taehyungie hyung had an early shoot today. So I came home."
Jimin shifted in the bed, rubbing his eyes. He must look like shit, he sure felt like it. He tiredly watched Jungkook filling the basket. "Did you...um...carry me to bed last night?"
"I did."
"Oh." Heat stung his cheeks and he looked down at his hands on his lap. "You didn't have to do that," he mumbled, his voice low and barely audible.
"Your position looked uncomfortable." Jungkook straightened before turning to face him.
Jimin nibbled at his lip and met Jungkook's gaze hesitantly. "I'm sorry."
A frown pulled at the corners of Jungkook's mouth. "For what?"
Jimin looked away, the insecurities he tried hard to keep at bay pushing forward at a full force. He didn't want to look this way in front of Jungkook. He wanted no one to see this side of him. "For being an inconvenience."
"You're not," Jungkook said. "Don't say that, hyung."
Jimin's head whipped up, searching Jungkook's face for something but only to see genuine confusion and he was frowning. "Oh."
A silence settled between them for a moment and Jimin sat awkwardly wondering if he should say something else.
"Why don't you shower and change? I can wash those along with this too." Jungkook broke the silence and pointed at the clothes Jimin was still wearing.
Jimin nodded. "Yeah. Just give me a few minutes."
"Wait. I'll bring your coffee. I know how much you need that in the morning."
Jimin smiled at that. Jungkook was already walking out. He threw his legs off the bed with a sigh to sit at the edge, rubbing his face tiredly. Last night was emotionally demanding for Jimin.
While Jimin didn't like to dwell in his past, the past always had a funny way of catching up to him. His last break-up was messy and it left a scar. Jimin swore he moved on. He'd forgotten those days. He learned to never think of his short-lived relationship with Lee Minseok. But as short it was that one year had left more invisible wounds than any other relationships he had.
Seeing him yesterday had reopened a few and Jimin had spiraled down the emotional roller coaster that left him reeling. Jimin wasn't ready for the confrontation after what happened the last time. It was unfair for Jimin. Why was life unfair?
There were so many cafés in the town. Why would he stop by Coffee Bloom? Jimin was shocked to see his ex-boyfriend in the café, but he wasn't surprised to see Minseok hasn't changed a bit. He was still the same controlling; overbearing asshole who took any chance he got to take a dig on Jimin's insecurities.
Jungkook walked in right then, breaking his line of thoughts. The tantalizing aroma of fresh coffee filled his nostrils, chasing any other thoughts away.
Jimin liked his morning coffee black and plain. He also liked it a little warm and not too hot. It was hard to enjoy the coffee when it was scalding your tongue. While many thought it tasted bitter or ashy, Jimin enjoyed the natural taste that was unique to that coffee.
He inhaled the deliciousness before taking a sip, left it in his mouth relishing the flavor before swallowing it. When he opened his eyes, Jungkook was watching him intently. It was clear he wanted to ask something but holding back.
"What is it, Jungkook-ah?" Jimin took another sip, feeling his nerves relaxing a bit.
"Um...nothing. I just..." Jungkook fiddled with his fingers, shifting from one foot to the other. "Is everything okay?"
Jimin blinked. He was amazed by how Jungkook could tell when something was off. So far, only Yoongi hyung could tell that about Jimin. "Yeah, why would you ask?" The older tried to act nonchalantly suddenly feeling conscious. Am I that obvious?
Jungkook shrugged, but his gaze was full of concern. "You didn't eat anything last night and I saw you drank three bottles of soju. I was just wondering if you had a bad day." His voice was so gentle and he was looking outside the window thoughtfully.
Jimin's shoulders slumped. Yeah. It was a bad day. Was. Not anymore. Suddenly, there was clarity and a soft smile stretched his lips.
"I had a bad day, but now I'm okay." He smiled genuinely. Just the presence of Jungkook eased his mind in an unexplainable manner and Jimin didn't know why. Perhaps, he was just comfortable with the youngest.
Jungkook's gaze met him, still thoughtful. "Wanna talk about it?" he asked softly.
Jimin had to avert his eyes and take a sip of his coffee to hide how his throat constricted suddenly and how his eyes had stung. He didn't have many people who showed some concern for his well-being. It was just his mom, younger brother, and Yoongi hyung. But his mother didn't know he was suffering. Jimin was just so good at hiding.
"N-not now," he whispered, his heart clenching painfully. His grip on the coffee mug tightened as he looked down. "I-I'm sorry. It's just hard for me to talk about it."
Tears threatened to spill at the sound of Jungkook's genuine concern and Jimin didn't know what to do about this sudden emotional breakdown. He blinked repeatedly to clear the tears and bit hard on his trembling lips.
But then he was being pulled into a warm chest, the coffee mug gently being pried off his hand. Warmth blanketed him as a soft floral scent of Jungkook's fabric conditioner filled his senses. He always smelled so good. Jimin sank into the embrace, his fists bunching around Jungkook's t-shirt as he fought hard to contain the tears.
He wasn't usually like this. It was just a moment of weakness. When shit happened in his life Yoongi hyung was there to catch him. He got drunk and released his emotions to his hyung so he was fine by morning. But last night was awful and he had kept everything bottled up. Now Jungkook was here asking a simple question and his dam broke.
Jungkook's hold tightened around him and he rested his cheek on top of Jimin's head as they stood in complete silence. How long had it been since someone hugged him like this? Probably before he moved out his parent's home.
Jimin breathed in his scent and let it comfort him. He allowed himself to relax in Jungkook's hold. It felt so good to be held this way. Yoongi wasn't much for physical affection as opposed to Jimin who was a tactical person. But he did make some exceptions for Jimin. However, this...this was what he exactly wanted. No. This was what he needed.
Perhaps it was because he was deprived of a human touch for so long. It had been ages since someone held him properly. Well, if he didn't count the hugs his mom gave him last year when he visited her for Chuseok or the brief hugs he received from Yoongi. But those were different.
As he stood there in Jungkook's embrace, he couldn't help but compare. While his mom's hug was full of warmth and motherly love, Yoongi's hug was a blanket of assurance. His tight yet brief hugs with a pat or two on his bags always made him feel protected. This hug was a mixture of both.
Jungkook rubbed his back, soft fingers trailing up and down in a soothing motion while the other stayed hand wrapped around his waist. Jimin melted further into the hug, suppressing the urge to sob again. His hold tightened around Jungkook and he breathed his scent deeper, his nose buried into his warm chest. So warm and soft yet firm.
When Jungkook scratched his scalp, Jimin let out a sigh of content and completely relaxed. It felt so good. He didn't remember the last time he felt so relaxed.
Jimin didn't know how much time had passed before Jungkook spoke. "It's okay." His voice was gentle, so soft in his ears. "Next time when you're sad...call me."
"Why?" Jimin's voice was muffled into Jungkook's chest.
"Because I don't like to be alone when I'm sad," Jungkook responded without missing a beat. "And it pains me to know that you were alone last night when I could have been here for you."
"Jungkookie..."
"If I'm sad, I don't want you to leave me alone. I'll hurt more. I might not be willing to talk much but just having you around will help me." He nuzzled into Jimin's hair making his heart flutter. "We're friends. I want to able to rely on you. Likewise, I want you to be able to rely on me too."
Jimin sighed into the hug, a small smile tugging at his lips.
"Promise me, hyung. You will call or text me right away if you're having a bad day."
Jimin pulled away feeling light already. "What will you do then, big boy?"
"I'll bring chicken and soju. We can both get wasted and binge on some shitty movies all night," Jungkook listed proudly and Jimin burst out laughing.
"Sounds like a plan," he said. "So, what if I'm happy?
"We go out to celebrate and get wasted." Jungkook shrugged as if that was obvious.
Jimin shook his head, covering his mouth to muffle the laughter. "Deal," he mumbled once he had calmed down.
Jungkook regarded him for a moment, then his expression turned serious. "I'm here if you ever want someone to talk to," he said. He shifted on his feet again.
"Same goes for you too, Jungkookie."
The youngest nodded, offering a small smile. "Um...I'm cooking lunch. So...ah, you can shower and come to the kitchen whenever you're ready."
Jimin met his gaze briefly, grateful for the change of topic. "Thank you."
Jungkook nodded and left him to his devices. Jimin looked out of the window. That was sweet. It was a simple hug, but he felt great already. That small chat with Jungkook had left him light-hearted once more.
It was a new day. He sighed again, this time more content as he left the room to start his day with a smile.
"How are you doing, kid?"
When Yoongi had called later that day to check on him, Jimin smiled warmly though his hyung couldn't see it.
"I feel better now."
"Did you eat?"
"I did." The hum Yoongi gave sounded suspicious as if he didn't believe him. "I had two bowls of bibimbap."
"Ha! Now I know you're bluffing. Min, you didn't allow me to order lunch because your stomach was upset."
Jimin chewed at his bottom lip, kicking at the asphalt as he snuck a glance inside the café where Jungkook sat by the corner table, drawing passionately in his tablet.
"Min-ah, you there?"
Jimin cleared his throat. "Yes. Um...Jungkookie cooked for me, hyung," he admitted sheepishly.
"Doesn't that kid goes to his friend's place every weekend?"
"He came early." Jimin's voice softened. He quickly conveyed what happened that morning to his hyung.
"He sounds like a good kid."
"He is." Jimin's gaze found Jungkook again, who was looking around the café as if he was searching for someone and when their eyes locked, he waved at Jimin with a bright smile. Jimin waved back. "Give him a chance, hyung."
"That lamb skewer was for him, wasn't it?"
"Mhmm..."
"You have it bad, Min."
"It's not what you think." He bit his lip, staring at the road. The streets were moderately crowded for this time of the day. There wasn't much crowd at the café either so Jimin thought of baking some cupcakes for the next day. But when Yoongi called he had stepped out to take the call, wanting some privacy.
"You don't know what I think."
"Hyung..." Jimin whined knowing well what Yoongi was talking about.
He just didn't want to go there yet. Not because he didn't like Jungkook but because Jimin fell faster. He had no control over his heart or the emotions he felt. When he fell in love he fell without thinking twice and it always ended up getting him heartbroken.
"He's different though. Not your type."
In the past, Jimin had always shown interest in men older than him. Taller and more mature-looking ones. But Jungkook was none of those. Perhaps, that was what set him apart from those men.
Jungkook was just so beautiful. Both in and out. He had a boyish charm that rendered Jimin speechless every single time. But when he talked he was so mature and wise, always calm and collected. He was playful, funny and loved arm wrestling with Jimin. Yep, definitely not Jimin's type. At least he wasn't before.
Jimin sighed. Who am I kidding?
As Jimin watched the youngest, he couldn't help but admire how gorgeous he was. He had soft facial features with sharp edges, dark brown curls framed his face. It looked so fluffy and Jimin wondered if it was as smooth and silky as it looked to touch. His eyes held the entire galaxy and they twinkled like million stars when he talked about his art. When he smiled, his entire being lit up and his nose scrunched so adorably revealing those bunny teeth. Oh, that cute little dimples. Jimin was often tempted to trace them, run his fingers over his soft cheeks.
Jimin was scared to hope yet when it came to Jungkook he couldn't help the little craving creeping into his heart. Only if Jungkook felt that way too.
He was so lost in Jungkook that he didn't realize Yoongi was calling him. "Huh!" Jimin blinked and shook his head to clear his thoughts. "Did you say something, hyung?"
"Right. I knew you zoned out again. Make sure he's there tonight, kid."
"Hyung...don't scare him. Please."
"More reason for me to meet him properly. I want to make sure he's isn't another asshole before you fall even harder."
"I don't even know if he's into men." Jimin tried even though he knew there was no stopping Yoongi once he set his mind on something. "He doesn't even see me that way, hyung."
"First, you'll have your answer before this night ends. Second, let me be the judge of that."
"Fine."
They ended the call and Jimin stepped inside, waving at Jungkook once more before going to the kitchen. His mind was all over the place, thoughts hay wired. It had been a while since he thought about someone.
"Hey, boss, lover boy is looking for ya." Hannah bumped into his shoulder as he began to set aside the ingredients for a cupcake.
Jimin rolled his eyes. "He's not a lover boy," he gritted out half-heartedly making her laugh. Ever since Jungkook showed up in his café in the mornings Hannah began calling him that.
"Come on, Jimin-ssi. What's stopping you?" She poked his side. "He cooks for you, does laundry, cleans your house, looks smoking hot, and to top it all he's whipped for you. What more do you need? Just bag him already."
"I don't know what you're talking about." He put the mixing bowl on the table and sorted through the ingredients. "What makes you think he's whipped? He could be straight as a scale for all I know."
"Have you seen the way he looks at you?" she looked offended with a hand on her hip. "He goes literally all heart eyes with that goofy smile. It's been two months and he still comes to you to get that damn tie fixed. I'm very good at reading people and trust me when I tell you the boy is whipped." She waved her index finger at him. "And my senses tingle every time you two are together."
"Perhaps, your senses are malfunctioning," he deadpanned.
"Tell you what. My senses never lie. I want a raise if that boy asked you out before this year ends."
Jimin folded his hands across his chest. "No raise or bonus for a year if you failed."
Hannah's eyes twitched and he saw the turmoil in her eyes. But then they heard a knock and Jungkook poked his head in.
"Hyungie...I ran out of coffee." He pouted so adorably that Jimin felt the sudden urge to coo.
However, he had to school his features when he realized Hannah was watching him intently. Jimin's gaze flicked to Hannah whose smirk was now wide. "You got yourself a deal, Jimin-ssi," she whispered grabbing the rag on the counter and sashayed past him and then out of the door.
He cleared his throat, forcing a nonchalant smile. "I'll be right there, Jungkookie. What coffee do you want this time?"
"Surprise me, hyung." Jungkook rewarded him with that bright smile. "Can I come in?" His gaze curiously flicked around. He had never been inside his café kitchen.
"Of course." Jimin took pride in his kitchen. This was one place where he could be happy and forget the outside world.
"Your kitchen is so cool." Jungkook's eyes were wide as he looked around with the same twinkle in his eyes whenever he saw his art.
"Thanks."
If Jimin thought cooking him a hearty lunch was all, he was wrong. Jungkook surprised him even more. When he got out of the shower, the youngest had a steaming bowl of bibimbap ready. He was always a pleasant company and Jimin found himself genuinely enjoying another meal. After that had accompanied him to the café saying it had a nice ambiance for drawing. It was obvious he didn't want to leave Jimin alone. But what touched Jimin's heart was the effort he made just to be there for him.
Jungkook's cooking reminded him of home. The food, the flavor, and everything about it reminded him of things he missed for so long. Having the youngest here was like having a piece of home here and Jimin embraced it with all his might.
While Jimin himself was exceptional in cooking, even though he made his living out of it, there was something when someone else cooked for him. The pastry chef firsthand knew how much care went into that seemingly simple task.
Cooking might be a trivial thing for many, but for him, it meant more than that. Cooking created bonds. From a mother to her children, between friends or lovers, it was such a primal form of affection and nurturing. When you cooked for someone, it expressed how much you cared for them. The sense of closeness it brought was absolutely like no other.
His love for cooking started when his mother handed him the bowl of pancake mix she was stirring and asked if he wanted to help. He was only four and it was his most treasured memory. So the simple act of Jungkook offering to cook on their first night together had caused warmth flood in his chest. The feeling only continued to grow in the coming days.
Jimin was pulled out of his reverie when two arms wrapped around him from the back. He flushed at the gesture, which was also the third hug of the day. After their first hug in the bedroom, Jungkook had hugged him one more time in the kitchen after lunch and before he went to change. It was brief but it was enough to leave Jimin's heart in a fluttery mess.
As Jungkook rested his chin on Jimin's shoulder, innocently humming a song that was released recently Jimin couldn't help the way his heart lurched. He knew that action was casual. He'd seen many photos and videos of him goofing around with the Kim brothers. Jungkook's social media was full of them.
Often at nights when Jimin lay on bed, he spent his time scrolling through his phone. The younger was so full of life and he found the videos endearing. It was how he knew the youngest was touchy with his friends. So it wasn't much of a surprise.
"Are you making cupcakes?"
"Y-Yeah." Jimin tried to act calm but his cheeks were flaring and he had no doubt his face would be red. "I will get your coffee first." He half-heartedly attempted to step out of the embrace but Jungkook only tightened his hold.
"Coffee can wait. Let's make cupcakes."
Jimin's poor heart did that thing again. Did Jungkook even realize how bad this was for his heart? He bit his trying hard to not let the youngest know how flustered he was right now. So he wordlessly set out to mix the ingredients while Jungkook made small chats.
Jungkook continued to ask questions and even demanded that Jimin let him taste the cupcake mix. But he never stepped away even once, just standing there comfortably with his chin resting on Jimin's shoulders. Jimin being the weak soul he was let him do as he pleased. Damn. He'd do anything to see that adorable nose scrunching dorky smile.
"Hey, boss!"
Jimin jumped slightly, head whipping up to see Hannah standing by the door.
"Oh, never mind. I'll come later."
She was gone before he could even respond. As for Jungkook, the boy hadn't even moved an inch, still keeping those damn hands around his waist as if they belonged there. He could already imagine how they'd have looked and right then Jimin realized he was doomed from the start.
There was no escaping the charm of Jeon Jungkook.
