The sun streamed through the curtains, casting a warm glow in Bani's room. She stretched, a smile tugging at her lips as thoughts of last night's family dinner filled her mind.
Her phone buzzed beside her, and she quickly grabbed it. It was a message from Veer: "Good morning! Hope you're ready for some fun today. Join us for boating?"
Bani's heart raced as she read his message. She wanted to say yes, but she hesitated. Just then, her chachi, Ritu, walked into the room.
"Good morning, Bani! Kya soch rahi ho? (What are you thinking?)" Ritu asked, noticing the smile on her niece's face.
"Veer ne boating ke liye bulaya hai. (Veer invited me for boating.)" Bani replied, trying to sound casual.
Ritu's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Bohut accha! Tumhe toh jaana chahiye. (Very good! You should definitely go.)"
Bani looked uncertain. "Lekin... mujhe nahi pata. (But... I don't know.)"
Ritu sat beside her, her tone serious. "Bani, maine tumhe dinner par dekha tha. Tum dono ke beech kya chal raha hai, woh mujhe samajh aaya. Tumhara sharmaana, woh meri aankhein nahi chhupi. (Bani, I saw you at dinner. I could see what was going on between you two. Your shyness didn't go unnoticed.)"
Bani's cheeks flushed. "Chachi, mujhe nahi pata... (Aunt, I don't know...)"
"Pehli baar dekha maine tumhe sharmaate hue, aur tum toh hamesha itni confident hoti ho. (I saw you shy for the first time, and you're always so confident.)" Ritu encouraged, her voice gentle. "Agar tumhare dil mein kuch hai, toh kyun nahi ek mauka deti? (If there's something in your heart, why not give it a chance?)"
Bani sighed, contemplating her chachi's words. "Par kya agar kuch galat hua toh? (But what if something goes wrong?)"
Ritu smiled knowingly. "Main janti hoon ki tumhe logon par trust karna mushkil lagta hai, par zindagi ko ek mauka dena chahiye. (I know it's hard for you to trust people, but you should give life a chance.)"
"Main bhi tumhari tarah thi, tough to trust others. Lekin ek baar maine zindagi ke flow ko mauka diya aur sab kuch khubsurat ban gaya. (I was just like you, tough to trust others. But once, I gave life a chance, and it turned out beautiful.)" Ritu said, her eyes reflecting warmth and love.
"Tum bhi deserve karti ho apne prince charming ko. (You deserve your prince charming too.)"
Bani felt a wave of emotion at her chachi's words. "Theek hai, chachi. Main ek mauka dungi. (Okay, aunt. I'll give it a chance.)"
"Yeh hui na baat! (That's the spirit!)" Ritu beamed. "Ab jaldi se tayar ho jao, warna Veer aur baaki sab tumhe miss karenge! (Now hurry up and get ready, or Veer and everyone will miss you!)"
Bani nodded, a mixture of excitement and nervousness swirling within her as she prepared for the day ahead.

As they arrived at the dock, Veer was already waiting with Arjun and Ponky. He looked effortlessly handsome in his casual attire, and Bani's heart fluttered at the sight of him. Why does he always have to look so good?
"Wow, you look great today, Bani!" Ponky exclaimed, grinning widely.
"Really? Is that a compliment or a pickup line?" Bani shot back, rolling her eyes but smiling.
"Combination of both! I'm an all-rounder," Ponky winked, and Veer glared at him.
Arjun nudged Veer. "Dude, why are you so serious? Just look at Bani and relax! You look like you're preparing for a wrestling match."
Bani caught Veer's eye, and he raised an eyebrow, smirking. "I'm just trying to make sure no one falls overboard.Specially Ponky, the brain cells he has makes him at high risk."
"Oh, protective brother you are ." Bani teased back, her heart racing.
Veer shoke his head at her small misunderstanding .
The group climbed into the boat, and as they glided across the water, laughter filled the air. Ponky and Arjun shared jokes, while Gauri and Meera sang songs, but Bani and Veer found themselves naturally drifting toward each other.
"Yeh jagah kitni khubsurat hai, hai na? (This place is beautiful, isn't it?)" Veer said, glancing at Bani, his eyes shining with genuine admiration.
"Bahut.(Very.)" Bani replied, a small smile on her lips, feeling the warmth of his gaze.
Veer nodded. "Achha hai tum aa gayi. (Glad you came.)"
As they chatted about their lives back in Mumbai, their conversation flowed easily. Bani felt a sense of comfort, enjoying the casual back-and-forth.
" What do you do in your free time?" Veer asked, curious.
"Books padhti hoon aur painting karti hoon. (I read books and paint.)" Bani replied, a hint of pride in her voice. Maybe I can show him my paintings one day?
Veer raised an eyebrow, impressed. "Painting? Kabhi dikhana. (You should show me sometime.)"
"Maybe," Bani said, her voice softer, a touch of shyness creeping in. What if he doesn't like my style?
As they reached the middle of the lake, Veer leaned back slightly, looking out at the water. "Aaj mausam bhi sahi hai, na? (The weather's nice today, right?)"
Bani glanced at him, appreciating the simple comment. "Haan, bilkul. (Yes, absolutely.)"
Their moment was interrupted as Ponky called out, " Hey, what are you two doing over there? Come here!"
Veer shot a playful glare at Ponky. "We were just discussing how to save your drowning self, but I guess we can join you."
Bani laughed, her heart lifting. This feels so good.
After their boat ride, the group decided to go for some roasted corn. The aroma filled the air as they gathered around a vendor.
"They look tasty." Gauri said, eagerly taking a bite.
Bani took a bite of her corn, glancing at Veer, who was laughing at something Ponky said. Their eyes met briefly, a moment of understanding passing between them.
"Bani you know I loved this lake" Veer said, a hint of teasing in his tone.
"Oh? Seems like you like everything." Bani played along, her tone light.
"Not everything, just a few special things." Veer replied with a slight smile, his eyes warm. Is she one of those special things?
"Special? I see." said Bani and they both chuckled.
After their snack, Gauri suggested they visit a nearby bookstore. "Aao, dekhte hain tum logo ka taste."
Inside the bookstore, Bani wandered through the aisles, and Veer joined her, casually picking up a book. "Yeh kitab achi lagti hai. (This one looks good.)"
Bani took it from him, their fingers brushing briefly. "Mujhe bhi pasand aayi. (I like it too.)"
"Tumhe har cheez pasand aati hai. (You like everything.)" Veer said, chuckling.
"Bas kuch khaas. (Just a few special things.)" Bani replied, echoing his earlier words, feeling their connection deepen.
"Arey bhai, kya tum dono kisi aur duniya mein ho? (Hey, are you two in another world?)" Arjun interrupted, pretending to be offended. "Baki logon ka koi bhi dhyan nahi hai!"
Veer smirked. "Well tumhare saath rehke mera dimag thak chuka I need a break Arjun ("Well, staying with you has tried my brain, Arjun.")
"Rehne de Mai bohot smart hun meri baate sabko samajh nahi aati.("Well I am too smart not all can understand it.") Arjun countered, puffing out his chest dramatically.
As they continued to browse, their conversation felt easy and unforced, punctuated by smiles and brief glances. Even with their friends around, there was a quiet connection between them.
By the time they reached the sunset point, the sky was painted in hues
of orange and pink, casting a magical glow over the lake. Bani stood at the edge, captivated by the view, her heart swelling with a mix of wonder and something deeper as she turned to look at Veer.
"Yeh jagah kitni khoobsurat hai, na?" she mused, her voice barely above a whisper.
Veer stepped closer, his gaze fixed on her rather than the view. "Well yes but not more than you. "
Just then, Ponky and Gauri appeared, breaking the moment. "Arre, yeh kya chakar hai? (What's going on here?)" Gauri asked, narrowing her eyes playfully.
"Just showing Bani the beauty of the sunset." Veer said with a smirk, throwing a glance at Bani that made her heart race.
Gauri controlling her grin."Oh is that so or something else diiiii."
Bani laughed, trying to deflect the attention. "Main toh bas scenery enjoy kar rahi thi. (I was just enjoying the scenery.)"
"Scenery ya Veer bhai ? (Scenery or Veer bhai ?)" Ponky chimed in, a teasing grin on his face.
Bani playfully nudged him. "Don't be ridiculous!"
Meanwhile, Veer was secretly enjoying Bani's discomfort. He leaned in slightly, whispering, "I can always be the scenery for you."
Bani shot him a look, half-amused and half-annoyed. "Stop talking like that"
"Ohhh why does it makes your heart race."Veer replied nonchalantly, and Bani couldn't help but smile.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the group decided to take a few pictures. Meera urged everyone to pose together, and they huddled close, laughter erupting as Ponky pulled funny faces.
"Come on, be a little serious!" Gauri said, struggling to hold back her laughter.
"Serious? What is that never heard before." Ponky replied, sticking his tongue out.
As they snapped photos, Veer stood close to Bani, trying to steal a moment away from the group. "You know, I never really liked taking photos until I met you. "
Bani raised an eyebrow, skeptical but intrigued."You talk like that to every girl you meet or I am special?"
'Well never .Tumhare alawa aaj tak Veeranshu Singhania ne shayad hi ye kisi se kaha hoga,"("Well never.Till the date Veeranshu Singhania has never talked like this to anyone.") he said, a hint of vulnerability in his voice. "I am seriously Bani."
Bani felt her heart flutter at his sincerity, yet she quickly masked it with a smile. "Acha, toh ab mujhe yaad rakhne ke liye pictures kuch lete hai."
"Bilkul. Par tumhe yaad rakhne ke liye muze photo ki jarurat nahi meri yaade hi kafi hai .Ye chehra main kabhi nahi bhul sakta ." Veer chuckled.
"Ok. I agree you are damn serious.Npw stop with intense lines" Bani said, shaking her head with a smile.
Their playful banter was interrupted as Meera called out, "Bani di ! Come on, pose with Veer Bhai !"
Bani stepped forward reluctantly, but Veer wrapped an arm around her shoulder, drawing her close, making her heart race. "Yeh best couple photo hai! " Ponky shouted, capturing the moment on his phone.
Bani felt a rush of warmth. Is this really happening? She smiled shyly, trying to keep her composure.
"Okay, let's take a selfie!" Gauri suggested, and everyone crowded around.
Veer leaned closer to Bani for the shot, whispering, "Yeh sirf dosti nahi, kuch khaas hai, hai na? (This isn't just friendship, is it?)"
Bani's breath hitched at his words, but she quickly shot back, "Kya kar rahe ho? (What are you doing?)" Her heart raced, her mind a whirlwind of confusion.
"Just stating the truth," he replied, his gaze steady. "Jise tum chhupana chahti ho, main usse dekh sakta hoon. (I can see what you're trying to hide.)"
Bani rolled her eyes, trying to regain her composure, but inside, she felt an electric charge between them.
"Okay, one, two, three!" Meera exclaimed, capturing the moment. Everyone posed, and the camera clicked, sealing the memory in time.
As they returned to the car, Bani felt a sense of exhilaration, mixed with confusion. What am I feeling? She glanced at Veer, who was talking animatedly with Ponky and Arjun, laughter echoing around them.
Suddenly, Gauri chimed in, "Agar aisa hi chalta raha, toh hume bohot jaldi shaadi ke card dene honge. (If this keeps going, soon we'll all have to send out wedding invitations.)"
Everyone burst into laughter, and Bani's face turned crimson. Veer caught her eye, smirking. "Agar tum haan kar do, toh main tayaar hoon. (If you say yes, I'm ready.)"
Bani shot back, trying to regain her composure. "Aap bas in jokes par zindagi nahi bita sakte. (You can't live your life on these jokes.)"
"Par kyun nahi? Yeh toh sabse accha hai! (But why not? This is the best!)" Veer said, his voice light.
As they drove back, the air was filled with laughter and unspoken feelings. Bani couldn't help but feel that today had changed something between them.
Maybe there is something special here...
Veer's laughter echoed in her mind as she remembered the day, and for the first time, she considered what it might be like to let her guard down.
************************************
Later that night, Veer lay in bed, his eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling. Sleep felt like a distant memory, as if his mind refused to let him rest. When he finally drifted off, the darkness swallowed him, pulling him into a world he thought he had long escaped.
He was standing in a grand, ancient hall, its stone walls echoing with distant whispers. The air was thick, suffocating, as if it carried the weight of centuries. Chandeliers flickered above, and then he saw her.
A girl lay in the center of the hall, motionless, her white dress stained crimson. Her lifeless eyes stared at the ceiling, and Veer's heart twisted in agony. He recognized her face, though it felt like a memory from another lifetime. He tried to run to her, but his feet felt glued to the floor, as a strong force held him there .
"No!" Veer screamed, but no sound escaped his lips. His chest tightened, his vision blurred with tears. The world around him blurred, but her pale, lifeless form was painfully clear. As he struggled, a sharp pain pierced through his heart, burning as if someone had driven a dagger into his soul. The pain was unbearable, and yet, he couldn't tear his gaze away.
The hall filled with the sound of distant, haunting cries, echoing in the emptiness. The girl's lips moved, forming a word, but he couldn't hear her. Then, a scream ripped through the silence-a scream of anguish and despair. It was his own voice, reverberating off the walls, raw and heart-wrenching, but he was powerless to stop it.
Veer jolted awake, gasping, drenched in sweat. His heart hammered against his chest, and his breaths came in ragged gulps.
"What was that?" he whispered, his voice trembling. "Why does it feel so real?"
He sat up, running a shaky hand through his hair. I need answers... I need to know who she was... and why I feel this way. A thought crossed his mind, piercing through the fog of fear: "I need to meet that sage."
**********************
The next morning, Veer's mind was still clouded his nightmare. He could barely focus as he met with Arjun and his grandmother, Shanti Devi, who had sensed something was wrong.
"Veeranshu," she said gently, her eyes filled with concern, "You look so tried and unhealthy. You should go to the sage. Only he can guide you."
Veer nodded, "I have to know... I need to understand these dreams."
Without wasting any more time, Veer and Arjun made their way to the sage's place. One of the sage's followers led them to a dimly lit room where Sage Shankar sat, meditating.
The sage was an elderly man, his long white beard flowing down his chest, his eyes closed as if he were peering into another world. The moment Veer entered, he felt a wave of calm wash over him, opposite to the storm inside his heart.
After a brief wait, Sage Shankar slowly opened his eyes, and it felt as if the room itself had come to life. His gaze was piercing, it held a wisdom that was almost unnerving. "Sit before me," he said, his voice deep and steady, as if he had been expecting them.
Veer hesitated for a moment but then sat down on the floor. As soon as he did, the sage placed a hand on his head, his touch surprisingly warm. "I know why you are here," the sage murmured. "Your soul is restless... burdened with memories you do not fully understand."
Veer's breath hitched. How did he know? Before he could say anything, a strange sensation enveloped him. It was as if he was being pulled back in time, dragged into the depths of his own subconscious.
The world around him faded, and in its place, flashes of images assaulted his mind-blood, tears, a pair of haunting eyes staring at him, full of unspoken words. He heard echoes of laughter, now twisted into cries of despair. Veer clenched his fists, his whole body trembling as the memories poured in, unrelenting and brutal. Slowly he remembered his past life.
Arjun, watching from the side, panicked. "Sage, what's happening to him?"
"Let him feel it," the sage replied, his tone unwavering. "These are not just dreams, they are remnants of his past. He carries the weight of another life... and until he faces it, he will find no peace."
Veer's heart clenched as the images became sharper, clearer. "Why... why did it have to end like that?" he choked out, tears streaming down his face. "Why ?"
The sage's grip on Veer's head tightened slightly, grounding him. "Let it out, Veeranshu. Your soul needs to release this pain. You must face your past, for it is closer to you than you think."
Veer cried out, the rawness of his emotions spilling out, his voice filled with an agony that was almost primal. "I failed her... I couldn't protect her..."
For what felt like an eternity, he was trapped in that moment, reliving the torment, until finally, he felt something shift. The pain didn't disappear, but it no longer felt like it was suffocating him. He wiped his tears, his breathing still heavy but steadier than before. "Thank you, Sage," he whispered, his voice hoarse.
The sage's eyes softened, a gentle smile forming on his lips. "Your journey has only just begun, Veeranshu. Use your heart, but do not forget your mind. Justice will come, but it demands patience. Your destiny is waiting... and so is your partner. Seek her, for together, you will find the answers you seek."
Veer felt relief as he remembered someone he has alot to share including his life.He hopes she will understand him and will feel the same this time too.
As he stood to leave, the sage's voice stopped him. "Remember, the past is not always what it seems. You were brought here for a reason, and that reason is the justice you never got."
Veer left the sage's place with more questions than answers, his heart still heavy but somehow lighter. The sage's words echoed in his mind, and a deep sense of curiosity burned within him.
