A day off
“Veer... tumhe zeher diya gaya tha.”Bani informed Veer.
Veer’s eyes narrowed in disbelief as he processed her words. “Zeher” He didn’t seem surprised, more like he had been expecting something like this.
Bani nodded, her hands trembling slightly.
Veer’s expression shifted. He stood up and walked towards the desk, his eyes searching through the room for something. “Maine yeh sab pehle se feel kiya tha. Singhania Mansion ke cameras me kuch problem hai. Isliye maine ek chhoti si camera laga rakhi thi hallway mein.”
Bani raised her eyebrows. “Camera?”
Veer gave a small nod, tapping a few keys on the laptop. “Haan, camera. Tum dekho. Shayad kuch clear ho jayega.”
The footage popped up on the screen, and Bani watched, wide-eyed, as Jai sneaked into their room at night, his expression dark .Bani’s breath caught in her throat.
Jai... woh... Bani couldn’t believe her eyes. “Yeh... yeh Jai hai?”
Veer clenched his jaw, his anger rising. “Haan, yeh wahi hai. Main expect kar raha tha ki woh kamina kuch aisa karega.”
Bani’s heart dropped. “Lekin... main toh samajhti thi ki woh mera dost hai. Yeh sab... main nahi soch sakti thi.”
Veer took a deep breath, turning towards her. He noticed the hurt on her face, and his tone softened. “I know, Bani. It’s tough. But tumhe samajhna hoga, woh sirf ek dikhawa tha. Tumhare liye woh dost tha, par uske liye sab kuch bas apna fayda tha. Aur ab... woh galat raste par ja chuka hai.”
Bani’s hands curled into fists as she tried to control her emotions. “Toh kya yeh sab planned tha? Mayuri ka attack... Naag Lok par .. ek distraction... aur tumhe zeher diya gaya tha... sab kuch... Jai aur Mayuri ka plan tha?Haan, sab kuch connected hai. Naagfani poison sirf Naag Lok mein milta hai. Aur antidote... woh bhi wahan se chhupaya gaya hai. Jai aur Mayuri milke yeh sab kar rahe hain. Humare dushman badh rahe hain.”
Bani took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing thoughts. “Yeh matlab... humare enemies aur zyada ho gaye hain. Kuch karna hoga ”
Veer looked at her with a small smile. “Haan. Lekin abhi tum thoda rest kar lo. Hum dono ko ek din ka break toh banta hai.We have been working ourselves so much.”
Bani glanced at him, unsure at first. “Break?”
Veer nodded, his tone more relaxed. “Haan, break. Chalo, ek din ka kuch normal karte hain. Relax karte hai Tumhe thoda time dena hoga khud ke liye bhi .”
Bani bit her lip, considering his words. After everything, a moment of peace did sound tempting. “Theek hai. Bas thoda aaram chahiye.”
Veer smiled, a bit of mischief in his eyes. "Yeah of course sweetheart."
******
Veeranshu and Bani went to Veer's farmhouse near forest where they spend their resting and working and also cooking with each other.
As the evening drew on and the fire crackled softly in the background, Veer and Bani found themselves lost in the comfort of each other’s company. It was strange, how easy it felt to talk to him, especially after everything that had happened. The weight of the world outside seemed to disappear in this moment.
Veer leaned back, looking at the fire. His fingers still gently held hers, the warmth between them providing a quiet reassurance. After a few moments of silence, he broke it with a soft laugh, his gaze turning towards her.
“You know, when I was a kid, I hated being alone in this house,” Veer said, his voice light. “I used to be scared of the dark corners in the hallwaysI’d always make Tapish bhai sleep in the room with me.”
Bani smiled softly, her fingers instinctively tightening around his hand. “You were scared?” she asked, raising an eyebrow playfully.
Veer nodded, his face suddenly softer, more vulnerable than Bani had seen before. “Yes, terrified. I was just a kid. The big house with all those empty rooms... it felt so lonely at night.”
Bani chuckled lightly, her mind drifting back to her own childhood. “I was always the opposite. I never liked anyone near me when I was sleeping. I used to sleep alone in living room. It made me feel peace where i could hide my emotions well .” she said, her voice tinged with a touch of nostalgia.
Veer’s eyes softened as he listened, and he leaned forward,"Do you always hide .You don't need to do that with me.Bani"
Bani looked at him, meeting his gaze. There was a strange warmth in her chest, something she hadn’t expected to feel. “I hide... in my own way,” she said quietly.
There was a brief silence between them, but this time, it wasn’t uncomfortable. It was as if they were both sharing a piece of themselves they’d kept hidden for so long.
Veer let go of her hand for a moment and reached for his jacket, pulling something out of his pocket. “I remember... when I was younger, my mom used to tell me to always carry this with me. She said it would protect me.”
He handed her a small, worn-out coin, its edges slightly rounded from years of handling. It was a simple thing, but there was something special about it, something that spoke of memories long past.
Bani took the coin from his hand, turning it over in her palm. “What is this?” she asked, feeling a warmth spread through her chest as she looked at it.
“It’s a good luck charm,” Veer explained. “My mom gave it to me before she... she passed away. She said it would keep me safe, remind me that I’m never really alone.I don't believe in luck but this coin is special.”
Bani’s heart fluttered at the sincerity in his voice. She didn’t know why, but something about this simple act of sharing a part of himself made her feel connected to him in a way she hadn’t imagined.
“I used to do something like that too,” she said, her voice softer now. “When I was younger, I had this tiny bracelet. Meera di gave it to me. I used to wear it all the time. It made me feel like I wasn’t just alone. That someone was watching over me.”
Veer watched her closely as she spoke, his heart warmed by the way she opened up to him. “And where is it now?” he asked quietly.
Bani hesitated, a sad smile flickering on her lips. “I lost it a long time ago. But sometimes, I still feel like it’s with me.”
"Maybe you can keep my coin after all it has blessings of my mother your saas. She would have loved you sweetheart."said Veer smiling at her
Bani returned his smile while feeling special . Bani realized, in this moment, how much she’d been carrying on her own for so long. And for the first time, she didn’t feel so alone with Veer by her side.
Without thinking, she placed the coin in her palm and handed it back to him. “Keep it,” she said, her voice filled with unexpected sincerity. “It’s a part of you. Maybe it’ll protect you, just like your mom said.”
Veer’s eyes softened. He took the coin back, but instead of putting it in his pocket, he tucked it into her palm again. “No,” he said gently. “I think it’s yours now. After all apne gharwale ki raksha uski gharwali hi karengi na.”
Bani qlooked up at him, the distance between them feeling smaller with each passing second.
“I never wanted to be part of this world,” she whispered. “But... with you, I feel like maybe I can be. I don’t know why. But... I don’t want to lose you, Veer.”
Veer didn’t say anything at first. He just took her hand, squeezing it gently. His voice was full of emotion when he finally spoke.
“You don’t have to lose me, Bani. You never will.”
Bani felt her heart swell, the simple act of sharing their childhood memories—small moments of care—drawing them closer than ever before.
Veer leaned closer, his forehead gently resting against hers. “I’ll always be here. For you. Always.”
And in that moment, Bani realized she didn’t have to hide anymore. Not with him.
