Chapter 13

*Kamal Pov*

I sat there stiffly for a few seconds after feeling the arms around me and then turned around only to crush her to me before releasing the tears which I couldn't stop anymore.

"I miss her so much, Vani. I kept on thinking she will walk inside the house any moment, but I know that it will never happen." I said closing my eyes tightly.

"I... I am feeling guilty thinking maybe I should have stayed near to her without staying away. I missed so much time and always thought she would be with me forever after I get settled down." I added shaking my head.

"It is not a wrong thing to miss her. I miss her too and will miss her forever. However, she would kill both of us if we made sure we are sad and are trying to get stuck in a moment." I heard her voice making me slowly control the tears.

"I do not know how you are feeling at this moment and maybe no one will ever know. It is not an easy thing to get on with the life." She mumbled and slowly moved a little to glance at my face.

"Do you think she will be happy to see you like this? I know her and I can assure you that she must be scolding you pointing a finger towards you." She said in a serious tone and for the first time after many weeks I felt a small smile covering my face.

"My Dad must be trying to make her anger go away and cool down." I mumbled and she chuckled with tears spilling from her eyes.

"That must be happening for sure." She whispered and I shook my head before hugging her again.

"Why don't you go and freshen up?" she mumbled and tried to move away but I didn't let her.

"Just a minute!" I replied and hugged her even more tightly which she returned after a second.

Feeling the numbness near my knees made me remember her kneeling along with me. I released her and sat down properly, which she followed.

We sat like that for a few seconds and slowly stood up. Without saying a word we both walked outside the room and she walked near the kitchen while I got into our room.

We had a very silent dinner before reaching our room and laid down like the past week before drifting off into sleep.

"Can I have a word, Kamal?" I heard a voice and looked up from the coffee in the canteen to see Pallavi after a week from the day she talked to me.

"Yes?" I asked her frowning.

"I am really sorry about yesterday. Will you forgive me?" she asked and I nodded to which she smiled.

"We will meet at our regular table today evening." I said and she nodded before walking away.

No matter what, we never missed meeting each other every Friday and Saturday and go somewhere on Sunday sometimes or take a rest for the day.

"You should have brought Vani too." That's what Girish said the moment I sat down along with Pallavi.

"I came here directly from the hospital and I can't call her to be here as she doesn't know the city much." I replied shrugging.

"Shall I order something for you?" I heard David asking Pallavi to which she glared at him before ordering herself.

"What happened between you too?" I asked them frowning.

"Just a small fight." David said shrugging.

"Remembering about the fight, I think it would be better if you don't behave rudely with Vani." I said in a serious tone.

"I am so proud of you, Kamal. You finally got your brains." Girish said, slapping my shoulder.

"He was rude?" Pallavi asked in a surprised tone.

"I am sorry and I will never be. Why don't we all meet at your house tomorrow and I will apologize personally. It will be good for a nice meeting between Pallavi and Vani too." David said before throwing a glance at her.

"What?" I asked him frowning.

"I mean they both never met right." He replied and I nodded.

"Kamal?" I heard a voice and turned to see some girl walking near to us.

"Rupa?" Girish said and then I remember Vani's friend.

"What a surprise! I never thought I would see you guys. Where is Vani? I have a news for her." She asked looking around.

"She is not here and what are you doing here?" I asked her frowning.

"Well, I thought people came here to eat." She replied so casually that I had to blink my eyes a few times.

"Fine! Seems like you don't have the wit she has. Give my number to her." She said, shaking her head in disappointment before writing down her number on a paper before passing it to me.

"Hi!" she finally said, glancing at Girish before walking away.

"Vani has witty responses?" Rakesh said with bewilderment.

"Do you guys know why was I hell bent on protecting vani? That girl threatened to kill me if I didn't take care of her." Girish suddenly said.

"And?" David asked, staring at him.

"And I like here. So, this number is for me." He said taking the paper from my hands with a grin.

"Be careful with her then." I said before laughing, but then saw everyone looking at me in shock.

"What?" I asked them frowning.

"We never thought you would be back, Kamal. It is so good to see that." Rakesh said smiling at me.

"I think I should go to my home." I said, getting up remembering how I was last week with them and how I was now.

"Sure!" They all mumbled and I smiled before asking them to come for lunch and even stay for the dinner too.

I unlocked the door and got inside the flat to see her reading a magazine and didn't even glanced up at me.

I cleared my throat, hearing which she glanced up, but again stared back at the magazine before turning over the page.

Shaking my head, I closed the door and walked near to the dining table before sitting on my chair.

"Shall I bring water?" she asked like every day.

"No! I met Rupa today." I replied and that got her attention.

"Where?" she asked and I explained about the restaurant.

"We all friends meet there every Friday and Saturday after work and then somewhere out on Sunday's." I explained and she slowly nodded.

"Number?" she asked, extending her hand.

"Girish took it." I replied, to which she frowned.

"You can take it from him tomorrow. My friends will be here for lunch and dinner. Is it ok?" I asked and she slowly nodded.

"How many?" she asked, closing the magazine.

"Four!" I replied and leaned back.

"Four?" she asked, frowning.

"Yes! I forgot that you didn't meet Pallavi. She is in our group too." I explained and she immediately stared at me with a blank expression.

"Then I will leave now." She said getting up and walked near to the drawer where I kept the money needed for any groceries or anything for managing the house.

"Where?" I asked her frowning.

"To purchase groceries to prepare food for tomorrow." That's all she replied before leaving the house without giving me a chance to say any word.

I sighed and walked inside the room to freshen up and decided to sleep early after dinner. Last two weeks I didn't take any leave on Sundays, but tomorrow seems to be a time for lots of rest.

"Did you get everything?" I asked the moment she stepped inside looking away from the television.

"Yes! I will prepare the dinner." She replied simply walking away.

"Can I help you with something?" I asked making her halt in her steps.

"Is any of your friend's allergy for any type of food?" she asked turning around.

"No!" I replied and she nodded before continuing her way towards the kitchen.

"I am going to sleep." I said, standing up and she nodded but didn't follow like before.

She felt my gaze and looked up saying "I need to prepare a few things for tomorrow. I will be late."

"Ok!" I mumbled and walked inside the room before lying on the bed.

I woke up to the sounds from the kitchen and glanced at the clock to see it is near to noon and I immediately got down from the bed.

"Why didn't you wake me up?" I asked, rubbing my eyes and walked towards the kitchen only to stop in my tracks.

"I didn't know that I had to. I thought today was a holiday." She mumbled frowning at me.

"Yeah, it is! But... did you prepare all these?" I asked her and she opened her mouth but immediately closed it.

"Yes!" she mumbled nodding and turned around continuing the preparation while I walked back to our room to freshen up.

"Where are you guys?" I asked, frowning at the door.

"Open the door!" That's all Girish said before hanging up.

"Vani!" I called her after everyone entered and she walked outside holding the tray of glasses with a tired face and I immediately took it from her.

"Vani, she is Pallavi." I said, introducing her and started passing the water.

"Nice to meet you." Vani finally said when we all stopped staring at both of them while they stayed quiet.

"Yeah! Nice... to meet you too." Pallavi said in an awkward tone and I immediately felt guilty remembering her feelings.

I wish I didn't hurt her, but I am sure I never gave her hopes that I like her in that way at all. I just sighed and ushered them towards the dining area where they have to serve themselves.

"But I can do it." Vani protested.

"You look tired and it is not like they can't do that." I said protesting back and had a great lunch.

I stared at the dishes and saw that they all are great, but not my favorites. Damn!
