She looks at Mari levelly.

VANESSA (cont.)

Mari seems taken aback.

MARI

Vanessa shrugs and furrows her brow as if this is no big deal.

VANESSA
Yeah. This is what you want, isn't it?

MARI
(quickly)

How...how does the whole thing work, exactly? I couldn't find one set answer online...

Vanessa looks back at her drink.

VANESSA
One of us has to bite you and inject a venom into your veins. Then the disease will run its course in about a week, during which you'll experience fevers, intense nausea, hallucinations, and  have a dislike of regular food while still not being physically ready for blood.
