That's worse. There's a lot riding on that kid's story, Van, so I don't understand why, for the first time in your life, you've decided to play good cop.

Vanessa turns on him with a sudden, blazing fury.

VANESSA
(bitingly, with punctuation)
Take a wild fucking guess.

Ron is confused for a moment, as well as taken aback by her anger, before his face slackens with understanding.

RON
(quietly)
This is about Hannah.

Vanessa slouches back, the fight draining out of her as she closes her eyes.

VANESSA
Of course it's about Hannah.

Ron takes a more sympathetic approach. His anger also leaves him.
