59: Tailing The Hunter
"You guys are being weird. What the hell am I doing here and where are we going?"
A brunette boy looked around him apprehensively, seeing nothing but trees, trees and trees, standing closely by each other so he was completely isolated from the outside world. The fact that the blood red sun was starting to fade more and more into the depths of the dark sky was not helping. Unfortunately, his question didn't receive an answer.
He stomped down on the ground in frustration and stood his ground. "Really, you tell me what you're up to now or I won't move another step further!" Two boys who walked in front of him sighed and turned around, glancing anxiously towards the setting sun.
"It's a full moon, Hoseok. You remember what we told you last time we... talked. We're trying to guide you during your second werewolf transformation. Your first kind of was a fail," Taehyung answered. The brunette furrowed his eyebrows.
"Werewolf transformation. You guys are being serious, huh?"
"You think we'd visit you out of the blue and drag you in here for fun? This is serious, you'll turn into an animal and want to hurt people." Hoseok gasped.
"Wait, what? What the fuck? Is that why I don't remember what I did last month? That one night... what the fuck happened? My memory's been wiped!"
"Well... You'd transform and I came to your dorm to try to explain things to you. You didn't believe me and the moon rose, you turned into a wolf and kinda almost killed me. I think details aren't important here." Hoseok looked outraged.
"What?! There's no way, I'm sure I'd remember something like that!"
"That's the thing. You don't." Now, Jungkook stepped in, urging them to keep going.
"Uh... guys? It's getting pretty dark and we need to find the tree with the chains or--"
"Chains? What in the hell is--" Taehyung and Jungkook each grabbed one of the werewolf's arms and kept walking at a steady pace.
"Luckily Mina taught us some tricks on how to deal with a werewolf. And she borrowed us some of her equipment. Apparently, wolves who've only triggered the curse recently tend to be much more aggressive."
"I'll show you aggressive if you don't tell me what you're up to now. Are you planning on chaining me to a tree or something?!" Hoseok looked infuriated but also a little scared.
"Yeah, that was kind of the plan. But don't worry, you'll be fine at some point. Just as long as the moon's up. Try to control yourself," Taehyung answered calmly.
"Oh yes, because that'll be totally easy. Why me, what did I do to deserve this? I don't wanna live like this, who'd want to?"
"And I have to suck blood, feel guilty about killing innocent animals and can never eat chicken nuggets or instant noodles anymore. Not all of us get what we want, Hoseok. In fact, no one does. Now please cooperate, we're trying to help you here," Jungkook spoke, fastening their pace.
"Wait, what'll happen to me? What will I do?" Now, the werewolf seemed to be panicking. The vampires looked at each other with an apprehensive glance. "Well, you'll turn into a wolf and be under a moon spell. Chaeyoung told me it's pretty painful, especially if it's a clear night, but... You're a big boy, you'll be fine," Taehyung tried to reassure him but did not succeed. They looked up into the darkening sky- not a single cloud in sight.
"What? You said nothing about being in pain! And who the hell is Chaeyoung?," the brunette complained, both of them sighing. This was going to be a long night for sure.
"Our friend. And..." All of a sudden, Taehyung gasped, facepalming himself harshly as a sudden thought struck him, something that he definetely should have thought before today.
"Fuck. Jungkook, we're so dumb. We could've asked Mina and Chae to share the wine cellar under my house with us, where they always go, there's enough room for all of us. I mean, plus the door is super safe and we could just wait outside." Jungkook's mouth formed an 'O' as he thought of the same thing.
"We so need to get better at scheming and making plans--"
"Uh, does anyone plan on explaining anything to me tonight? Wine cellar? Door? I'm slightly confused," Hoseok complained yet again, them getting more uncomfortable by the second.
"You know what? You have a long night ahead of you, might aswell give you a detailed explanation while it happens. We're here anyways, we're pretty much in the centre of the forest and you can't hurt anyone here. I hope." Taehyung smiled, looking up in the sky yet again and witnessing the final glowing ray of sunshine fighting its way through the thick branches before the indigo sky entirely succumbed to the night and an eerie darkness engulfed them.
"What you said earlier, about using your house's wine cellar. Will it really work and will they let us?," Jungkook whispered, his feet dangling from a height of about twenty feet as he watched a brown wolf below them, struggling against two foot chains aggressively.
"At least I think it's a wine cellar. When Mina and Chae moved to Gwangmyeong, they were worried about where to spend the full moon nights since they didn't have the old dungeon at Chae's anymore. But yeah, then we found that old cellar. It never ocurred to me that we could use it, but how about we try it next month? Maybe Hoseok and Chaeyoung can bond and go through it together," Taehyung answered just as quietly, sitting on the same branch and that so closely their thighs were touching.
If you ignored the fact that they were anxiously watching a beast with wild brown fur howling and digging its claws into the earth below it and feeling horrible about it, this might have been a very romantic night. The bright full moon illuminating their faces with its pale light, the stars shining like little gemstones and the two of them sitting up in the air, on a thick tree branch and finding comfort in each other's company as they supervised.
"By the way, I forgot to tell you during that whole Seokjin-fiasco. I had an idea. Or a plan? I'm not sure," Taehyung mentioned. The other turned his head towards him curiously. "Something that'll help us finish Seokjin and his vampire-hate club?" The redhead shook his head, giggling.
"Not exactly. No, it's something I wanted to do when all of this ends. If it ever does. I- I wanted to open a hospital. I've started to think, vampire blood has the ability to heal injuries and treat diseases, that excluding cancer. The only time I've managed to heal someone's injuries is... none. Well, I tried to heal you when Hoseok hit you with his car but we both know how that one went. But... yes. How nice would it be to have a little hospital in which you can treat sickness with a little magic?" Jungkook smiled at his idea.
"You really have changed, huh?" The redhead shrugged his shoulders. "I suppose so. Nearly dying does something with you, that's for sure."
"Same goes for dying, though. I would've never felt guilty for killing an animal in my human days."
"I just keep thinking of all the sick people I've passed all those years. Why did I never think of helping them? Maybe I could have saved a life or two. But I never thought about it. I was always so preoccupied with who was trying to kill me and where I would be safe I never considered people's suffering back then. But this way, I feel so much more fulfilled. The thought of running a facility and making a change... it just makes my heart flutter." He looked down on his lap as the ravenette took his hand into his own.
"I'm proud of you, you know? It's so crazy how much you changed in the time we knew each other. I keep wondering what you were like back then. How many changes you went through all those centuries." Now looking towards the ground again and watching the werewolf struggle against the chains with a heavy heart, Taehyung leaned his head on the other vampire's shoulder.
"More than I can remember. When I turned off my humanity- I don't even remember that part. I'm just glad Mina and Tzuyu got me back to normal." He looked up into Jungkook's face again.
"Please promise me you'll never be so reckless."
"Of course, I promise."

"What the hell is the guy doing, taking a walk to through the forest after work hours? I thought normal people went home to watch Netflix or they'd grab dinner or something!," Jungkook whispered, hiding behind a thick tree trunk. When Taehyung moved next to him and stepped on a branch, he grabbed his arm and pulled him next to him.
"Shh, careful! We don't know if he's still using the vampire compass!" Taehyung nodded, stopping all his movements and simply listening to the man's footsteps, waiting for the distance between them to become big enough for them to start moving again.
It was the night after the full moon and despite having a tough night looking after the werewolf (especially after the moon set and Hoseok turned back), they did not rest and decided to set their mission into motion.
So now here they were, tailing the vampire hunter.
They had originally planned on following him home and breaking into his place to look for even more clues. However, they had a strong feeling Seokjin was not going home.
Just what could he be doing?
"He seems to know his way around here. And I thought I was the only one who knew the forest like the back of hand," the redheaded established, lifting himself off the tree trunk and taking a careful step so they could start walking again.
"Not yet." Jungkook found it too early to move again, pulling at the other's hand.
"Yes, now! Seokjin may be a vampire hunter but he doesn't have vampire senses. I'm telling you, he has no idea he's being followed. We'd sense something."
"How so?"
"Us vampires are hunters by nature, we live through hunting so nature provided us with stronger instincts, nerves, senses, speed and unfortunately also emotions. Now c'mon, or we'll lose him," Taehyung urged, now being the one pulling his hand and carefully setting one foot in front of the other.
"Hold on, I know this place. This is about where I killed my first animal, right?" The redhead nodded. "Yes, you're right. Well, at least it's far away from my mansion. But this is so weird, what the hell is he doing here?"
"Guess we'll find out."
Silently, they kept tailing the luckily clueless hunter, not knowing what to expect. Was he going to do creepy rituals in the forest? Or even better, was he going to a club meeting? A Gloriam Hominum club meeting, perhaps, where all hunters gathered to discuss their plans to obliterate the existence of supernaturals? They felt very much on edge, that was for sure.
However, the truth exceeded all of their expectations and suspicions.
"Hold on, we've been here before. Is this..."
A building came into view, a building they had visited few times before.
"He's going inside. Why's he going inside?"
The building was old and looked slightly creepy due to poor construction. The wooden panel in front of it read 'Huimang Orphanage', few children playing in the little lawn in front of it, wearing cheap grey gowns and tattered, brown shoes. Some were even barefoot.
"Maybe he's trying to help them. Funding the orphanage or something. Or doing some sort of community service?," Jungkook suggested, walking closer towards the orphanage.
"Well, it's not doing much, then. This place looks depressing as fuck, as if they barely have enough money to keep running it." Suddenly, Taehyung gasped.
"Jungkook, Ahjin! Ahjin stays here!" Jungkook widened his eyes. It was true, the little girl they befriended had her home here, as much as she hated it. The first time they met her, she was strolling around the forest in front of it after Jungkook had fed on an animal.
"Okay, this is creepy. Who's he here to see? Not Ahjin, is he?"
The other shrugged. "What reason would he have? They don't know each other and nothing connects them with each other. But he's here to see someone, that's for sure." Jungkook nodded and then nudged him, pointing towards the orphanage.
"What do you say, we go in and see for ourselves? We can tell the matron we're just here to see Ahjin."
Taehyung nodded. "I just hope the kids are gonna be fine. What if he's somehow hurting them?" The ravenette chuckled.
"Kim Seokjin may be a creepy asshole who plans on killing us, but he doesn't strike me as someone who goes to orphanages just to abuse children. After you," he spoke, opening the door for Taehyung and gesturing him inside.
However, they didn't think ahead enough. The vampire felt a powerful force push him back as soon as he tried to pass the treshold.
"Fuck, we haven't been invited in. We can't get inside," he realized.
"Shit, I forgot about that. I guess we just have to wait outside, and--" Just in that moment, someone exited the building and stopped walking right upon seeing them, confusing.
"What the hell are you two doing here?"
