36: The Necklace
It was late at night when Jungkook walked along the deserted streets with street lights glowing above his head in a dim shade of orange, some of them even flickering dangerously. Only few cars rushed by him every now and then quietly.
He wasn't scared, walking late at night was something he had always been used to, since he was a child. He even dared say it put his mind at ease, seeing the dark sky and streets and hearing the melancholy tunes and low basses blasting through his earphones.
Today had been a stressful day- classes, a dance practise stretched longer by at least an hour and half, showering cold in the dance school because Hoseok wanted to use the only shower inside their dorm today... However, his stress was successfully relieved through a cup of boiling, delicious cup noodles, a cup of milk and the current night walk.
Although he did feel a bit cold since his hair hadn't been dried completely and was still slightly damp.
However, all of a sudden, the most unexpected thing happened.
He was just walking peacefully, spacing out and not thinking about anything in particular, when something- or someone- suddenly stood right in front of him. It was as if the person had teleported themselves right there without any single warning as he didn't see or hear anyone approach him.
He was about to defend himself by knocking the person out with a strong punch to their jaw and a harsh blow through the stomach when he saw who it was. A short, pale man with a cat-like resemblance. Min Yoongi, the Original. Punching him in the stomach surely would not end well.
"What the hell?," he muttered, lowering his balled fist and pulling the earphones out of his ears while glowering at the vampire. The latter did not say anything at first, which thoroughly confused him.
"Um, what do you want?," he asked carefully, the creature in front of him not moving a bit and staying silent. Jungkook sighed deeply, already feeling a bit annoyed. All he was asking for was one peaceful evening, and this is what he got?
"Hello?," he tried, rolling his eyes when Yoongi still didn't answer.
"He still doesn't want to give me the necklace, does he?," the vampire eventually spoke, making the ravenette jerk back slightly. He wasn't planning on hurting Taehyung, was he?
The other's presumption obviously wasn't incorrect, Taehyung was highly stubborn and although he may be starting to consider giving in, he was still nowhere near close. Should Jungkook lie for him? But lying wouldn't get him far, Yoongi was an Original vampire that could probably sense him lying within a millisecond and had the power to compel him to tell the truth. Or worse.
"Uh- Uhm... He's considering it, I think--," he stammered but almost immediately got interrupted.
"So he still doesn't want to. You know, I'm starting to get impatient. If I don't get it by the end of this week, I might start doing some inconvenient things," Yoongi spoke in an unfazed manner, making the human visibly panic.
"E-End of this week? But it's only five days until Sunday, I--" The Original scoffed.
"Sunday? Please. You have until Friday, and I'm being generous here." Jungkook widened his eyes. "But... Why are you telling me this, anyway? I don't have it."
"Because there's no point talking to Kim Taehyung, is there? So I figured you should get it for me instead. How you do it, I couldn't care less. I'll be at my jewellery store, drop it by on Friday, seven PM at the latest." The ravenette shook his head.
"You want me to steal it from him? I'm not doing that!"
"Yes, you are. You shouldn't have much of a problem, it wouldn't be the first time you stole something valuable, would it?" Jungkook was pretty much at a loss of words.
"You saw? But..." Yoongi laughed. "Why didn't I tell the police? You're young, I know young people do dumb things when they're lovesick. I can excuse that much as long as you don't try that shit again. But I can't say the same for your lover, he relentlessly steals and compels whenever he wants to, takes advantage of his powers."
"He's not my lover! And he has good reason to do that, you know?," the younger defended quickly, making the older sigh. "First of all: Yes, he is your lover. You're just too dumb to realize that. And second of all: No, he hasn't. He's a lazy, greedy piece of shit that takes without giving. However, I can't blame him much because I pretty much do the same. But the moment he starts stealing my jewellery is where I stop playing nice. But that's not what I'm here for, I want the damn necklace, so you better start listening to me."
"How am I supposed to get it? It's locked somewhere in his bedroom where I can't get in!"
"I don't think you'd have much of a problem getting into his bedroom, really. Just like I said, I don't care how you do it. Just do it. Do we have a deal?"
"What if I refuse?" The male narrowed his cat-like, blazing eyes.
"Well, Kim Taehyung can say goodbye to you. And his short noodlehead friend, his tall nerdy friend, his blonde witchy-friend, his pink wolfie-friend. And lastly, himself." Jungkook huffed, at a loss of words.
"So you'll just kill all of us if you don't get your sister back."
"That's the plan. I'd get it myself if that pesky Myoui witch hadn't cast that stupid spell on his alleyway. I'd also try getting in through the woods, but she cast a vampire-blocking charm on that one, too. Anyways, I'll repeat myself. Do we have a deal?" Feeling truly torn apart and numb at the same time, the ravenette nodded meekly, even if reluctantly. "I guess I'll try my best. Just don't hurt him. Or me."
For the first time, Yoongi showed something that could almost be called a smile.
"Now, why would I ever do that?"

The next two days truly were a pain for Jungkook.
He couldn't help but anxiously look over his shoulder when entering a new room, turning a corner, sitting through his courses, eating, lying in bed, even showering. He couldn't deny the fact that he was scared of getting attacked out of the blue by the Original vampire.
All these times since Christmas that he thought someone might be following him around and watching him, now he was almost certain that he hadn't been imagining it. Min Yoongi had been keeping his eye on him the entire time, making himself believe that he was being delusional and paranoid of guilt.
Jimin seemed to notice how jumpy he appeared on Wednesday and Thursday, hugging his shoulders during lunch hour and asking him if everything was okay in deep worry. "Did you watch a scary movie? But you never get scared of scary movies!" Taehyung watched the two of them with mixed emotions, not saying a single word. Namjoon expressed his concerns too, explaining that one must have gone through something traumatic to be so jumpy all of a sudden.
Lunch somehow resulted in Jimin and Namjoon bickering about whether it was more realistic to get jumped and threatened by thugs in a dark alleyway or be run over by a horde of wild horses in the middle of the forest (Jimin suggested the latter). How they got there, no one knew.
On the highly decisive Friday, Jungkook was relieved to conveniently receive a text message from Taehyung asking him to visit.

Wondering what must be so important, the ravenette immediately made himself on his way and even forgot about the anxiety plaguing him for the last few days. However, it returned the second he found himself in front of the vampire's doorstep. This was his last chance to somehow nick the necklace away, unknown to Taehyung, and return it to Yoongi. Should he take it?
He was literally risking lives here. Telling Taehyung about it wasn't the smartest idea, what if he got mad, refused and he was left with nothing? But what if he got caught? And Taehyung kicked him out permanently? But what other choice did he have, they all could die within the next few hours!
When he rang the doorbell, it took only few seconds for the front door to open and the vampire mutter "Come in", which he did rather nervously. Weirdly enough, Taehyung didn't even wait for him to properly enter and vampire-speeded from the lobby up the stairs. Jungkook did not understand. Did he want him to come up into his bedroom? Where the necklace coincidentally happened to be?
Jogging across the lobby and up the stairs to follow him, he found the door to Taehyung's bedroom wide open and the vampire sitting cross-legged on the bed, looking like he was in deep thought. Quietly, Jungkook entered the fancy room and sat himself next to him, surprised at how soft the bed was. He felt a tiny bit awkward, not to mention his urge to roam around the room and search for the damn necklace.
"I've been thinking lately. And I felt like expressing my concerns." The ravenette turned his head so he was now facing the redhead's gorgeous side profile. "Thinking about what?," he asked, expecting a long rant about his frustration over Min Yoongi's demands or the tragedy concerning his long-lost friend Tzuyu.
"Well... Actually, I've been thinking about you." Jungkook widened his eyes.
Really? If this isn't just the shittiest timing ever, I don't know what is.
"Me? But why me? Don't you have more important things to worry about?" Taehyung shrugged.
"Maybe, but I can't seem to shake this off. I just need to ask you one thing. I haven't asked this to anyone before." Now, he turned his head too so that the two of them were making direct eye contact.
"Why did you kiss me? Because it's fun? Or why?"
There's a thousand-year old vampire tormenting him and all he cares about is why I kissed him. Oh my god. Why do I find this kind of cute?
"You think I'd kiss you just because it's fun? Of course not! I'm not that kind of guy, Taehyung," he reassured, forgetting all of his necklace-worries and taking the vampire's hand into his own, which said vampire declined by pulling his hand out almost immediately.
"But then why?"
"To be honest, I didn't really think the first time. I know I should have, but I was just so frustrated and the emotions just took over me. The second time, you kind of asked for it." The redhead sighed.
"That's not what I meant. Do you... do you like me? Like, like-like me, or-"
"God, you're seriously asking me this? I-- well, yeah. Maybe, a bit." Jungkook smiled sheepishly which Taehyung returned with his eyes downcast.
"I... Perhaps I feel the same. No, I definetely do. Which is a massive problem!" Suddenly, the latter looked panicked.
Jungkook would've laughed if his heart wouldn't beat so painfully loudly inside his ribcage. "How is that a problem?" Taehyung moved back an inch, still looking panicked.
"Because I can't reject you! If I wouldn't like you back, I could reject you. Now I actually have to think! About commitment, and relationship, and how to move forward. And I just can't do that."
"Hey," the human called softly, moving an inch forward and taking his hand again, to which the vampire didn't object this time. "You don't need to think about anything if you're not ready. I can't even believe you actually like me, I'm gonna need so much time to process this. But I can't resist asking: Are you really considering something with me? A commitment?"
Taehyung huffed. "I don't know, that's exactly the thing. I can't. What if..."
"You still don't trust that I'm a good person? I don't know what more can I do to prove--" He interrupted Jungkook with a wild shake of his head.
"This isn't about you, it's about me. You couldn't handle all the trouble I'd bring you. I could never put you through that! It would never work! Ugh, I can be so silly sometimes, I should have never called you here today! Why, Taehyung, why? Excuse me, I need a moment." After voicing out his entire internal crisis, the vampire left the room without a single noise, Jungkook not getting a chance to speak.
"I wouldn't mind a bit of trouble, actually. If it's with you?," he mumbled to no one in particular, sighing as he let his eyes roam around Taehyung's bedroom. What was even going on?
The bedroom looked exactly what you would expect a medieval princess's room to look like: a canopy bed, old paintings hung up on the walls in golden frames, furniture made out of marble and embellished beautifully and delicately, expensive and fragile-looking decoration everywhere. Of course, he'd been here before as a toddler. The memories came up... And just then, his eyes landed on the windsill. And what was on it.
A blood-red gemstone, shaped like a teardrop and glowing mysteriously, silver garnet surrounding and framing it exquisitely. He did not need to think for a moment what this piece of jewellery signified.
His body freezing entirely, he heard the hands of the golden grandfather clock ticking shrilly in the background, the sound of it driving him insane. And after spending at least a minute blankly staring at the necklace, he decided to take a risk.
So he swiftly grabbed the necklace and put it into his pocket without wasting a single thought about it.
