33: The Jewellery Store

The next week, not much changed.

Every night, Taehyung visited all local hospitals to see if there would be at least some blood bags. But of course, there weren't. Which stressed him so much he worried about falling seriously ill at some point. The bare thought of another vampire lurking around this town and being the reason for his exposure made him feel like he was getting choked, slowly but surely.

Of course, Jungkook noticed his disruption and offered him to drink from his blood again every time they met but the vampire hesitated as he didn't want the human to be like his personal blood machine. However, every time he felt himself grow too weak, he did agree on taking few drops, preferably from the wrist. He also showed Jungkook how to apply concealer to cover up a bitemark flawlessly.

Luckily, he had been able to avoid his secret brunette admirer so far, someone he was highly embarrassed to be associated with. He knew people would surely be talking about them and even though he didn't know or care what exactly the rumors were, it made him cringe at the pure thought.

The next few pages of Kim Seokjin's little diary revealed nothing but a collection of vampires' strengths and weaknesses. Strengths such as the hightened senses, the speed and strength and of course the inability to die, along with weaknesses like vervain, fire, the inability to pass thresholds unless having been invited inside. This reassured the both of them, to be honest. They hoped that there wouldn't be any more vile and brutal schemes and murder plans written down in the following three pages.
How wrong they were...

Taehyung had been serious about needing a shopping spree to relieve all the stress these circumstances were giving him. So, on the following Saturday morning, he called Jungkook and asked him to accompany him, which the ravenette gladly complied to. Despite being quite busy with a dance practise, Jungkook thought of an excuse and left early saying there was a family emergency and he had to call his mother. However, Hoseok knew better and since he shared a dorm with him, knew that Jungkook never called his family. But although he was suspicious, he let him off the hook for now.

"So, are there any nice shopping malls around here?," the vampire asked curiously, standing right in the middle of the side pavement and looking around. He and Jungkook had just got off the subway, bringing them right into the middle of the city, close to where Jimin had his apartment. People were walking around all around them busily, all getting off the subway to attend to their own business. He quite enjoyed the vibe. Jungkook shrugged, only having been to one of the many malls here before. And that, only to steal a black obsidian bracelet for Christmas.

"This one? I don't know, I don't go shopping." He pointed right in front of them, a huge modern building with the words 'Hyundai Department Store' hanging in huge shiny letters in its centre.
"You sure look like it. But I do think I'll like this one, let's go." Taehyung grabbed his hand and pulled him right into its direction, the ravenette reluctantly following him.

"Hey! Are you calling me unfashionable?" The redhead stopped in his tracks and looked him up and down quickly. "No, but you wear like the same three hoodies every freaking week. With a face like that, you could pull off anything. I'm calling you uncreative and a tiny bit lazy, not unfashionable." He grinned. "If we ever do this again, I'll have to find you something, too." He kept pulling Jungkook and the two of them entered the department store: chic, shiny, modern and packed with various sorts of people. The ravenette couldn't help but feel a little excited

"Ohh, it's been years since I've been to one of those! How amazing! Where to start?," he immediately started gushing, the human next to him already looking overwhelmed. "You don't look too thrilled. I'll get you an ice cream when we're done." Now, Jungkook snickered.
"An ice cream? How old do you think I am, eight?" The vampire shrugged. "All of you humans are horribly young compared to us so no matter if eight or eighty-eight, it doesn't really make a difference." The ravenette was extremely confused but chose not to comment.

"Now, no time for chitchat! I need to buy some nice Chanel articles, all the Chanel I own is so underwhelming. Burberry would be fashionable at this time of year, too. If I have time, I'll take a look at the Luis Vuitton store aswell. And not to forget, I need some jewellery. Are you coming?," Taehyung blabbered mindlessly, tugging at the sleeves of Jungkook's black hoodie impatiently.
"You lost me at Chanel," the latter grumbled, trudging behind him slowly.

Taehyung had a lot of fun at the department store, seeing all his favourite brands, checking the newest fashion trends and either approving or disapproving of them. Jungkook on the other hand averted his attention on the overenergized vampire rather than the fashion. It was incredible to see someone get so excited over nothing but clothes but he wasn't judging him for it, he actually found it endearing.

As soon as they entered a new store, he leaned against the wall next to the changing rooms, where Taehyung would frequently rush in and out of them and gave his opinion on a few articles of clothing whenever the redhead would ask. Not that he had much of an opinion, Taehyung looked stylish and gorgeous whatever he wore. Subconsciously, he kept smiling and barely stopped doing it. Spending time with the vampire was truly a fun experience.

"Which one?," the vampire asked desperately, holding two pairs of Tommy Hilfinger jeans into the air, one of them a little longer and more high-waisted than the other. The ravenette, who personally saw little to no difference at all, shrugged. "Pants are the trickiest and most significant pieces of clothing, I need assistance!," Taehyung persisted.

Again, Jungkook shrugged. "No pants at all?," he asked carefully, to which the other gasped.
"Oh my gosh, you pervert!," he snapped and dashed back into the changing room to try the jeans on without the younger's advice.
Jungkook, still leaning on the same wall, sighed. "Shit, that came out wrong," he muttered.

About three minutes later, Taehyung came back out of the changing room, wearing the more high-waisted pair of jeans and, along with that, a baby pink beret that made him look utterly adorable. The ravenette couldn't help but smile.
"Yes, I like these quite a lot," the redhead mumbled to himself. "What do you think about the beret? Does the pink clash with my hair colour? I sure hope it doesn't, I remember seeing this strange red-haired mermaid princess wearing a pink ballgown once, the pink clashed horribly with her hair! I hated it," Taehyung rambled frantically, Jungkook looking quite amused.

"Red-haired mermaid princess... You mean Ariel? So you watched Disney movies? I think she looked nice." The vampire nodded.
"Yes, I think so. In the twentieth century, Mina had this horrible princess-movie phase while we stayed in America and forced me to watch movie after movie with her. The mermaid was my least favourite one, she behaved so foolishly! All because of some boy!," he started ranting again. And although he himself might not have realized this, part of the frustration he felt about the Disney princess was, in some way, directed to himself and his own past. "But I'm not surprised you like her, you have a thing for redheads after all. Isn't that correct?"

Jungkook may have blushed a little out of embarrassment. "I do not have a-- Whatever, let's go so you can pay for your stuff," he quickly changed the subject, emphasizing the word 'pay' heavily so now Taehyung was the one flushing. "Will you keep your voice down?!," he hissed, collecting all his new clothing items and strutting towards the counter without even waiting for the human to come with.

After he had 'paid' for his new jeans and beret, Taehyung's feet carried him towards his last destination for today's shopping trip: the jewellery store.
He looked behind himself to see if Jungkook had caught up to him yet, carrying five immense shopping bags that the vampire could've easily carried himself. But since the ravenette had offered to do that job for him ever so kindly, said vampire didn't see why he should refuse.

"Oh, today's so fun!," Taehyung spoke with a giggle, interlocking his arm with Jungkook's arm despite the shopping bags hanging from it and slowing down his pace. "Thank you for coming with me, by the way, it's much better this way. Almost feels like having a boyfriend again. My exes always got annoyed with me for taking so long and I had to carry all my bags by myself!," he rambled. Apparently, energetic and overexcited Taehyung didn't have a sense of shame and loved to ramble out of the blue. This side of him reminded Jungkook a lot of Jimin but instead of feeling weird or awkward about it, he found it quite sweet.

"No problem. Your exes sound like douches, it's not that bad. If I were your boyfriend, I'd have no problem waiting for you to finish." Jungkook blushed hard upon saying that, wanting to slap himself because no matter what, Taehyung could never know that he may or may not have a little crush on him!
The aforementioned did not suspect anything, though. Instead, he pinched the ravenette's cheek with his free hand. "Aww, aren't you sweet?," he cooed.

The vampire almost squealed when he let his eyes feast on the breathtaking visual of the jewellery store, everything glittering and sparkling brightly and jewels in all sorts of colours beaming at him. Jungkook on the other hand felt a bit apprehensive. This was the exact same jewellery store that he had committed thievery in. Sure, no one had been supervising the moment he did it. But what if there had been cameras? And they were searching for him and would now arrest him?

Today, the jewellery store definetely was supervised. Behind the glass counter stood a short and pale man, looking expressionless and wearing a black suit. Jungkook thought he somewhat resembled a cat and his lack of movement made him question whether he was an actual human or a wax figure. Taehyung paid no attention to the cashier but walked around the store with his eyes glittering in admiration, much like a little dog who was chasing his favourite bone. Or a little kid seeing its favourite candy, you get the point.

"Ohh, emeralds! I haven't seen those in ages," Taehyung exclaimed, standing in front of some green jewellery and continuing to walk his way through the store.
"Alexandrites! Mexican Opals! Beryls! Garnets! And pearls!," he listed up, and Jungkook found it incredible how the redhead could recognize every single one of these gemstones but then remembered the grand collection of gemstones that he kept inside his bedroom and figured he had collected them over the years. Maybe one day he'd ask him why or to what occasion.

About ten minutes later, Taehyung walked towards the counter balancing two extremely fragile-looking boxes with a nice collection of breathtaking, dangly earrings inside in his arms, smiling a little fake smile. Jungkook, already being used to his unethical way of payment, just stood by the door and anxiously waited him to finish. Like it or not, this store and his guilty conscience would probably haunt him for the rest of his life.

"Good afternoon, sir. I just came across this beautiful collection of earrings and plan on taking it home with me. How very unfortunate that I left my money at home. I don't suppose you would be kind enough to let me have it for free?," the vampire asked sweetly, his pupils dilating and constricting hypnotizingly as he spoke and pulling the energy from the cashier's eyes and mind...

"I don't fucking think so. You better stop playing games and pay the hell up or I'll have to call security on you," the short male answered curtly, Taehyung taking a step back in shock as he realized that his compulsion had not worked. Was it the lack of blood? Did the man drink vervain?

He decided to try again. "Don't move and forget about this until I have left," he spoke in the same manner, planning on taking the boxes and running out of the store in vampire speed when all of a sudden, the cashier's hand grabbed his wrist in an immaculate speed that he had never experienced befire. Jungkook was also starting to realize that something was going on, looking over to them in worry.

"I gave you a chance. Turns out both you and your little boyfriend are thieves. Aren't you ashamed of yourselves?," the man demanded a little louder, and within a fragment of a second he stood directly in front of Taehyung, looking utterly intimidating and powerful despite his little height.
"I'd stop talking if I were you, or I might do something that will make you regret ever opening your mouth!," the redhead exclaimed, already preparing to snap the hell out of the preposterous man's neck. No way was he going to let himself get intimidated by a mere human!

"If you knew who I am you'd be the one regretting ever opening your mouth. Be careful or next time, I'll kill you properly." A vampire hunter?!
Taehyung was about to ask what the hell he meant by 'killing him properly' when all of a sudden, he felt hands around his head and within less than a second, his consciousness was gone as he heard his own neck crack and before he could react, passed out swiftly.

"Taehyung! What the hell did you do to him?! Who the fuck are you?," Jungkook shouted in panic, running towards the vampire's unconscious body and immediately grabbing his hand to see if he could feel a pulse (if vampires even had pulses!) and glaring at the strange man in half-fear and half-rage. His mind could not comprehend what was going on and he could hear his own heartbeat ring inside his ears.

Said strange man simply let out a humourless chuckle. "But you must know me, I've been giving you quite the fright for the last few months, haven't I? Next time I see you steal anything, I won't be so merciful either so mark my words and watch your fucking attitude. Be grateful that I'm even letting you live."

Before Jungkook could even object in the slightest, he felt his head get slammed into the glass counter next to him harshly and then, his body limply fainted right next to Taehyung's body, his hand still enclosing the vampire's hand.

A scoff could be heard.

"The name's Min Yoongi, bitches."
