24: Christmas Eve
And about after two more weeks, it was time.
On Saturday, Christmas Eve came knocking on everyone's door, the entire town's spirits went up and a joyful smile decorated everyone's face.
Laughter could be heard from down the street, people with bobble hats, mittens and warm parkas standing with their relatives and friends and holding steaming mugs of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, punch or perhaps mulled wine. Pearly white snow covered the streets, trees and roofs and even more came fluttering down from the sky. The atmosphere was highly festive and jovial.
Taehyung's doorbell rang at point eleven o'clock.
"Merry Christmas, Taehyung!" A graceful blonde woman stood outside the door, wearing a fluffy Santa hat on top of her head and a shimmery lipgloss in the same shade of crimson red. An also red cloak, decorated with black buttons and white wool and a fitting red, shoulderless dress underneath made her look like a young, female version of Santa Claus.
"Merry Christmas, I gues-- Holy shit, what happened to you?!," Taehyung answered the door with a very disturbed expression on his face. Instead of scolding him for critisizing her appearance, she beamed at him.
And then, he saw why.
Another woman stood beside her, slightly shorter. Also wearing a Santa hat and cloak over an elegant pantsuit, hers entirely in green, she looked around the place in curiosity. Her hair was pink and short, her face adorable and cheery, Taehyung could immediately tell who this was.
"Oh wow, you must be the almighty Son Chaeyoung. Mina's told me all about y-- wait a second, how did she get through the barrier?," he asked in alarm, his blonde friend slightly shrugging. "I lifted the spell on the alleyway for today, I doubt anyone dangerous will try to attack you on Christmas Eve," she spoke airily.
"Wow, that's-- that's... totally not irresponsible. Come inside, you two. Feel free to have some cinnamon tea and biscuits, there's no one else in here who eats human food. I bought a lot, so don't be shy." He ushered them inside his enormous mansion, decorated adequately for Christmas and both women's faces immediately lighting up as they felt the comforting warmth inside.
"Amazing. Us witches do love cinnamon flavour," Mina spoke happily, pretty much floating into the also grand dining room, Chaeyoung coming after her just as happily. Mina seemed to be in an excellent mood today, and he did not waste a single second thinking about why.
The dining room consisted of one huge ovally shaped table, painted in shining black with a red velvet tablecloth draped over it gracefully, pure silver dishes and spoons as well as chopsticks laid out perfectly coordinated. To fulfill the festive mood, the table had been decorated with tiny fairy lights and tealights, glittering happily and cozily. To top it off, there was a mini Christmas tree (made out of plastic) in its centre, changing the colour of its lights every now and then.
"Wow, I'm impressed. You made a big effort decorating this place," Mina gasped, gazing fondly at the advent wreaths hung upon every single door. Taehyung chuckled.
"Ha, you're funny. As if I would decorate a mansion this big by myself. I made the food delivery guys do it for me, luckily they had quite the skill. And the strength. However, I did have fun shopping."
Mina looked aghast. "You compelled the delivery guys? Again? How do they even find your address?" He shrugged.
"Well, since there's a spell on the alleyway, they have to do the forest detour. I just explain the route to them, once you know it it's not that hard. So far no one got lost."
"And who in their right mind would wander through the whole of the forest just to get to your house?" The vampire slightly smirked. "Well, I do have my charms to make them come all the way here." He laughed as she rolled her eyes in exasperation.
"Help yourselves, my dears." He pointed towards the huge variety of cookies and little cakes on the table, Chaeyoung not wasting another second and helping herself to a chocolate biscuit almost immediately. Mina took a huge gulp of cinnamon tea, kind of glaring at Taehyung as she did not exactly approve of his methods.
Pouring himself a glass of sparkly champagne and letting a few drops of blood trickle into it, the redhead's expression morphed into one of pure thought.
"You know, I'm thinking of inviting Jungkook for the day," he contemplated, observing the sparkling liquid. Mina choked on her tea, Chaeyoung immediately patting her back in worry.
"Wait, the Jungkook?," she whispered in confusion, earning a little nod from the witch next to her, luckily having recomposed herself. "Explain yourself," the blonde just spoke curtly.
"He cut ties with his whole family and his best friends all returned to their hometowns to celebrate there. I heard humans who celebrate Christmas alone are very miserable so I thought, why not have him over for a day? He knows about supernaturality and he keeps nagging me about letting him see my cool house anyways," he explained. The witch seemed to check his face for a trace of a joke and sighed when she couldn't find one.
"You must be joking," she muttered, massaging her temples. The girl next to her raised her eyebrows, chewing on another cholocate chip cookie. "I'm confused. I thought Jungkook was the bad guy and someone that needs to be avoided at all cost?," she asked.
"He is, Taehyung is just a little out of his mind," she answered, the redheaded man glaring at her. "Hey! I thought we established that that only counted for his parents. He can actually be okay. Plus, Jimin would ask stupid questions if I let him rot on his own today, he knows I'm staying here," he defended quickly. His friend sighed again and muttered something that sounded a lot like "You're crazy".
"I heard that. And since when you do tell Chaeyoung every single detail, I thought you wanted to keep this private?" She glared at him once again. "She's a supernatural, too. She has a right to know about everything." Mina laid a hand on the arm of the girl next to her, said girl looking slightly caught off guard.
"Oh yeah, I forgot. You're a werewolf. However, I'm still calling him. And please be nice to him, then you'll see he's really different from all his cruel family members," Taehyung then spoke a little softer, pulling his phone out of his elegant slacks' pocket and dialling a number.
"Is he in love with him?," Chaeyoung whispered, observing the redhead running into the living room as soon as someone picked up.
"I'm starting to fear that too, actually. Oh dear, this is a mess. I need to eat something," she sighed in exasperation, a raspberry tart floating towards her with a snap of her fingers and her picking it up mid-air to take a bite of it.

The three of them were very surprised at how fast the ravenette arrived.
He didn't even seem to need any instructions on how to get to the alleyway and not even half an hour later, Taehyung heard the doorbell ring shrilly once again and jumped up in slight shock.
"He's here. Mina, you've met him before. He's fucking terrified of you so try to be nice, please. And Chaeyoung, don't be afraid of him. Once you get to know him, he's cool," he spoke before vampire-speeding into the lobby and opening the door to see the ravenette's familiar face peeking inside.
"Hi. Thanks a lot for asking me to come," he spoke almost timidly, his eyes shining in amazement as he let them flicker past every single corner of his house. His clothes for the day actually looked quite neat and carefully picked. "Wow, it's so pretty here. Just like I remembered it, minus the Christmas decoration. Merry Christmas, by the way." He held a little package inside his hand, handing it to Taehyung wordlessly.
"Oh, don't mention it, it's nothing. I wanted to make... a change and the more, the merrier." The vampire tried to sound as casual and possible but widened his eyes at the little package, not missing the way the packaging had been done a little clumsily but nevertheless, kind of appreciating it. "You didn't have to. But thank you." Jungkook grinned a little.
"Well, see it as a 'thank you' for inviting me." The two of them smiled at each other for a while, before the redhead gestured the other inside with a wave of his hand. "I'll give you something too, before you leave. I just didn't expect this, at all." And before Jungkook could protest, he was already pulled into the large dining room with the two women goggling at him.
"Guys, this is Jungkook. You already know Mina, sorry about your finger but she promised to be nice and she's sorry. And that's her cuddle-fuck-buddy-friend-lover-whatever, Son Chaeyoung," he introduced, both of them flushing as he did so.
"Friend!," they exclaimed at the same time, Jungkook watching the two of them while looking slightly overwhelmed.
"Oh, don't look so shy now. You had no problem kidnapping me and keeping me in your dorm, so talking shouldn't be too much of a challenge for you. Sit down and help yourself, I have so much food I could feed fifty starving military troops with it," he spoke matter-of-factly and pointed towards an empty chair opposite of Chaeyoung, the ravenette seating himself while heavily blushing out of embarrassment as he recalled past events.
"Hi. I'm sorry for all the inconveniences I caused, it won't happen again," he said, ducking his head a bit as he saw Mina literally penetrate him with a blazing glare.
"Knock it off, Minari. He even got me a Christmas present, isn't that sweet? Who wants some mulled wine?," Taehyung asked into the round.
The day actually passed faster than they'd thought, thanks to the little alcohol, all four of then loosened up and the tension became very comfortable soon. Even Mina seemed to take her friend's request to heart and tried to be nice to the human boy despite still finding him to be a threat. She eventually found out he liked to dance, practising with his friends regularly and that he wished to visit Paris one day, both of those being things Taehyung already knew. And of course, his fascination for supernaturality.
It turned out he had some things in common with Chaeyoung: For one, they both seemed to love roast beef and chocolate chip cookies. Both of them were also only children and their parents were insane, supernatural-hating hunters. Lastly, they both planned on getting tattoos when they were older. Plus, they liked reading fantasy books.
Taehyung's eyebrows were raised as he tried to imagine a tattooed Jungkook, him subconsciously biting his lower lip as if trying to scold himself for not even finding that imagination all that bad. Mina shook her head at him as if she knew exactly what he was thinking while Chaeyoung and Jungkook were humming to Christmas carols while admiring Taehyung's luxurious monstrosity of a house.
And when the sun set, the reddish sky darkened into a warm purple and the guests had finished their last piece of warm Christmas pie, Jungkook suggested Taehyung to open his little present. "It's not much," he said. "Just a little something."
Chaeyoung was very supportive of that idea, low-key shipping the pair (unknown to Mina) and suggested they move to the living room.
"Take your time, Mina and I already gave each other our presents," she assured, winking and sitting down comfortably and smiling a little. And as Mina sat down closely next to her, the pink-haired girl whispered something into her ear that made her bite her lip in thought.
"Fine," the witch sighed after a while, watching Taehyung and Jungkook stand opposite to each other, right in front of the Christmas tree. "But just this once." She then closed her eyes and raised her arms, murmuring something under her breath.
And just a second later, the lights were dimmed and the curtains drawn close. Instead, the ceiling suddenly turned into a beautiful dark blue, a couple of stars shining within. It looked as if it had been painted to resemble the night sky outside.
Adding to that, a hundred candles were suddenly floating around in the air, the candle flames dancing like little stars themselves and giving the room a stunning ambience. Jungkook looked up with nothing but adoration written on his face, his eyes wide as saucers and his jaw dropping.
"Chae's idea," Mina simply spoke. "You're a Harry Potter fan, right?" The ravenette simply gaped at her, too stunned to actually speak and simply nodded his head. Taehyung would lie if he said he didn't find his reaction to Mina's little magic trick the tiniest bit funny. And perhaps cute.
When Jungkook had calmed down from his positive shock and Taehyung opened his present, a little gasp left his throat.
"Oh my god. Black obsidians? Those are really hard to get, must've cost a fortune! H-How..." In his hands lay a bracelet, black shimmery pearl-like gemstones enclosing his wrist delicately.
"Well... You always wear necklaces, rings and collars and stuff, but never bracelets. And I was certain you owned jewellery of pretty much every colour but black. I thought this might match well with your eyes," the ravenette confessed shyly, suddenly feeling very dizzy.
"That's actually so sweet of you, I-- thank you so much!" Now, Taehyung full-on beamed at him and without thinking of it much, squeezed the other's cheeks. "Wait just a second," he then spoke, dashing out of the living room in vampire-speed and returning just a second later, also holding something in his hand.
Mina and Chaeyoung simply watched the pair of them silently with round eyes, not knowing what to think, where to watch or what to do.
Jungkook, who was feeling very overwhelmed again, reddened when Taehyung, all of a sudden, grabbed his hand and slipped a ring on it. It was golden, a majestic indigo blue gemstone linen with gold sitting on top of it.
"This is my present for you, then. This one's called Lapis lazuli, it's a metamorphic rock and quite precious. It's been praised since antiquity for its unique colour and-- well, this one matches with your eyes. You could also say wearing it protects you from evil."
"You didn't have to."
Both of them smiled sheepishly, absolutely not knowing what to say and their cheeks aflame because of something that had clearly nothing to do with the heat of the hundreds of candles floating around. They remained silent, Jungkook simply grabbing and squeezing the vampire's hand as a way to say thank you.
All of a sudden, there was a cough. "Uh... I don't mean to interrupt but I'm afraid there's a blizzard outside."
