21: Mina Meets Jungkook

Mina was not impressed when Taehyung mentioned Jungkook's request of lifting the spell on the alleyway.

"What a crazy jerk!," she huffed. "I can't believe this, I thought we could spend at least one century without some stupid human finding out and being nosy and insufferable!" Taehyung looked at her apologetically since it was basically his fault Jungkook had found out about this, after all.

"Don't look at me like that. It's not your fault, he would've found out about vampires either way," she then sighed, emptying her coffee mug to calm herself down. "Where does that jackass live, anyways?" The vampire thought for a while, not having the best orientation senses except for when it came to forests, strangely enough. He then shrugged, not even remembering how he got back home anymore.

"No point asking, I know you suck at Geography. I'll do a locator spell, do you still happen to have that creepy notepad of his? I could use that well." To that, he nodded, pulling out the brown little book and handing it to her and for no reason whatsoever, almost flushing. However, as she had known him for centuries by now, she noticed this.

"Are you blushing? What the hell did he write inside there that's got you all worked up? Remember, he's the enemy!," she scolded and looked at him provingly, expecting him to speak up. He answered, with the tip of his ears turning to a vibrant scarlet: "He made, like, a whole analysis on me. He must've paid close attention and he noted down basically every little detail there is to me. I don't know, the fact that someone studied me so thoroughly made me feel kind of--"

"Shy? Flattered? Oh dear. This is not a grand romantic gesture, this is problematic. Plus, he's very obviously not taking you and your power seriously enough. Someone has to change that." She opened the notepad and squinted her eyes at the writing.
"Jesus Christ, his handwriting is horrible."

"I suppose that someone has to be you?," Taehyung asked with a sigh, disregarding his friend's comment on the handwriting. She nodded, snapping the little notebook close again and walking around the room to collect a few candles. She snapped her fingers a few times and the candles floated straight into her arms magically. "You have one single weakness, Tae, and that is human emotion. After everything that happened, I know you shut yourself and your emotions off, but with all this social contact after all this time, you're starting to feel again."

The vampire scoffed. "So not true. Also, says the one with the werewolf girlfriend," he huffed, crossing his arms in front of his chest as he watched her set up the candles and move her fingertips over the wicks with closed eyes, small flames erupting automatically.
"She's not my girlfriend. And she's not dangerous, either. Besides, no one can read one's emotions better than a witch can. You're getting fond of these people you hang out with, like it or not. And now shush, I need to do this spell."

Despite wanting to protest, Taehyung shut his mouth and watched the female position five candles around her in a perfect circle, reaching in the air for a map of the city which was conveniently stored in some shelf and came whooshing straight into her outstreched hand.

Now laying the diary on top of the map and touching it, she started chanting an incantation with her eyelids shut, indistinct words of ancient Latin leaving her mouth. All of a sudden, the diary seemed to come to life and moved around on top of the map, jerking around wildly with Mina's hand still enclosing it until it came to an abrupt stop and the witch's eyes snapped open as the candles' flames flickered up several metres and illuminated the living room brightly.

"I got it," she spoke quietly, Taehyung watching her boredly with a champagne glass filled with blood mixed with champagne between his fingers, his slender index finger tapping the delicate glass every now and then.

"Not my fault this takes so long. The easier option would've been blood from a relative of his, but that evidently wasn't possible. Plus, blood makes me feel lousy," she muttered upon seeing his unimpressed face.
"Let's go. I need to speak this fool."

It turned out that Mina, on the contrary to Taehyung, had outstanding orientation skills. She knew which turns to take, which roads to cross and exactly how many miles they had to walk without batting a single eyelash. She was the type of person that could wake up in the middle of a jungle half-dead and still would know the exact way to get out without panicking in the slightest.

Since they were in a hurry, they paid no attention to traffic or street signs whatsoever, Mina simply making car and bus engines shut down with a snap of her fingers and Taehyung simply not giving a damn since car accidents would do absolutely no harm to him whatsoever.

And only about quarter an hour later, they stood in front of a quite simple and modern-looking dorm building. "This is it, right?"
The vampire nodded, trying to remember what the building had looked like but failing to do so. Buildings nowadays all looked the same, it wasn't his fault. But he remembered it looking it somewhat like this.

The two of them entered the building without using a key, Taehyung forcing the door open with his vampire strength easily. And after they had walked up the stairs, they made halt in front of a room with the brass number '901' stuck on its wooden door.

"Here," Mina whispered. Without any sign of hesitation, she knocked on it loudly, pursing her lips. Taehyung's excellent hearing could sense footsteps drag towards the door, however, he could already tell those weren't Jungkook's feet. Alone the surface of the shoes sounded very different from the ravenette's usual footwear, plus, this person walked way speedier than he did.

The door opened, and in its frame stood his roommate Jung Hoseok, his eyes widening and his cheeks slightly reddening when he saw the gorgeous witch stand on his doorstep. "O-Oh, hi," he stuttered. "Can I help y--"

"Are you Jeon Jungkook?," she interrupted him sharply. When he shook his head, she huffed.
"Where is he? I would like to speak with him." Deciding that this situation might be less confusing with a familiar face in it, Taehyung pushed himself next to her and gave him an awkward smile. "Hi, Hoseok."

The brunette looked a tad more relieved at last. "Hi, Taehyung! Uh, I'll get Jungkook for you. Just a second," he muttered, his feet shuffling away from the door. And about exactly a minute later, the vampire sensed the actual Jungkook's footsteps jogging towards them on the apartment's wooden floor.

"Oh. Glad to see you back, Taehyung. So, is it true that vampires cannot enter a home without being invited inside?," he spoke with a little grin as soon as he stood in front of them, completely disregarding the woman standing next to him. Before he could answer, Mina drew attention onto herself by clearing her throat. "So, you found out about the secret, I presume?"

He gaped at her, looking caught off guard. "W-Well... yeah. Wait, are you a vampire too?," he then asked, his eyes lighting up out of excitement. The blonde witch rolled her eyes, shaking her head. "No. But I advise you to take this situation more seriously. Supernaturality is nothing to joke around with, getting involved into it can mean serious trouble. Exposure is a big risk and humans have been our enemies since forever, so pardon me if I'm not too thrilled about this situation. Don't you dare spill anything about our existence," she spoke clearly.

Jungkook, however, did not seem to quite understand how dire the situation was for her. "Wait. Are you the witch who put the protection barrier around the alleyway? Could you lift it just for a tiny bit? That mansion was so amazing, I can't fo--" He was interrupted by Mina stepping forward whilst prodding a sharp finger into his chest.

"I don't think you understand," she hissed angrily. "You and your ghastly family are our mortal enemies, hunting us down for centuries and having an obsession with killing us. Yes, I set up the barrier and no, I am not lifting it for you. Taehyung may not agree with me, but you are a danger to us, especially to him, and the fact that you scribbled some moronic gibberish into some notebook aswell as your good-looking face don't change that." She took a deep breath.

"I think my dear friend wasn't clear enough so I'm here to change that. I advise you to stay away from him. And don't you dare spill a single syllable about this to anyone, or..." With a snap of her fingers, a loud crack could be heard and within a second, Jungkook was clutching his right, now very weirdly bent index finger in pain, a loud groan leaving his throat.
"...This might happen to your neck, too. I'm sorry if this is harsh, but my best friend's safety comes first. Have a nice afternoon."

She slammed the door into his face and the two of them walked outside. The vampire was surprisingly silent until they reached the road again.
"Did you really have to break his finger, though?"

Mina sighed exasperatedly. "Don't tell me you've gone soft for him because he used to be a cute toddler. This was necessary. He could cost us our lives, also, what if he works for his parents after all? He could be faking his kindness, for all we know. Sorry, Tae, but this involves me too. Maybe vampires are the main target, but people love taking advantage of witches, too." Taehyung nodded slightly, feeling gloomy for no apparent reason.

All of a sudden, his phone started vibrating inside his pocket. Excusing himself quickly, he checked the notification rather hurriedly. It was strange how much he got used to this. Using a phone. Like a normal mortal being.

Jeon Jungkook...
Hey, you there?
Uh, please tell your scary witch friend that I'm not a threat. Cause I'm really not.

Jeon Jungkook...
Look, I'm sorry my parents are crazy sickos but I hate them as much as you do, I promise. I actually think supernatural creatures are fascinating, not something to hunt after.
I'd protect them with all my might, not that I have the power, though...

Jeon Jungkook...
Maybe I didn't take the situation seriously enough after all. I was shocked and didn't really think rationally. But magic is just fascinating for people like me, you have to know that.
Y

ou may not remember this, but when I was a kid, you gave me this green gemstone. You told me it'd glow if I felt strong emotions. And you won't believe me how intrigued I was when it did.

Jeon Jungkook...
The more I grew up, the more I told myself it was just a silly fake. But something inside me knew that wasn't the case. Anyways, that was the coolest thing throughout my whole childhood.
All I wanna say is don't feel threatened by me, I may joke around and tease ppl every now and then but I'd never, never tell anyone about you.
Why would I expose the one thing I admire so much?
Sent 3:27PM

Jeon Jungkook...
Oh, by the way. Did you read my notepad?
Fuck, please tell me you didn't.
Sent 3:28PM

You
I did, actually.
That stone was a demantoid, by the way.
Even when you lie to yourself and try to repress your emotions, the stone won't. That's kind of what it stands for.
Sent 3:30PM

Jeon Jungkook...
Fuck. I promise you I'm not a creepy stalker!
Damn it, that's so embarrassing.
Anyways, I'm glad you remember the... dema-something. Gives me reassurance, somehow.

The vampire stared at his phone screen blankly, a strange and unfamiliar emotion washing over him. It felt like a mixture of fear, affection and doubt and he couldn't help but think back, back to what Mina had said before.

'You're getting fond of these people you hang out with, like it or not. You're starting to feel again.'

So far, her interpretations about his emotions had never been wrong before because truthfully, no one could read a person's emotions better than a witch could.
Could she be right, perhaps?

But he didn't want to be fond of them. Not Jimin with his stupid blonde noodle-like curls and his habit of clinging onto his friends and making the most bizarre suggestions that they were all forced to accept. Nor Namjoon with his huge dimpled smile and his overly witty brain making statements every now and them. He was a person Taehyung had his eye set on briefly: Less than a crush, more like a rebound. Though that was definetely over, the vampire had simply just found him attractive. Physical attraction, nothing more.

And of course, not to forget. Jungkook, with his messy raven locks, very expressive eyes and his- how could you say?- randomness. Aswell as his obsession and fascination with the world of the supernatural. But not in a power-hungry, intrusive kind of way. More like an admiring, respectful way. Okay, maybe not entirely respectful. But nearly.

But now that Taehyung thought of it, the ravenette did seem extremely trustworthy to him. But given the kind of people he had to go through in his life, he couldn't afford letting his guard down and blindly trusting and befriending people.

Oh dear. Why was he overthinking this so much? Was he really starting to feel again? He shouldn't, though, he really shouldn't.

Slightly shaking his head in disbelief, he turned off his phone and caught up with Mina, who had already crossed two streets without him, probably already knowing exactly what he was thinking.
