16: Pyjama Party, Pt.2
"What do you guys know about Kim Seokjin?"
The boys went silent for a while, surprised at his sudden interest in their law & criminality teacher and pretty much having expected Taehyung to ask anything but that.
Jimin was the first one to speak up. "Wait, do you have a thing for him? I mean, he kinda has a family, but he does look pretty cute--" The redhead shook his head profusely, looking panicked as hell.
"What?! No, that's not what I'm asking! He... I think he doesn't like me, like, at all. He kinda glares at me sometimes? And I want to know if there's anything thay could make him hold a grudge against me," he excused himself, the blonde now looking much more convinced and starting to think of an answer.
"And you're not sure he just doesn't like you because you obviously never pay attention in his classes?," Jungkook asked in amusement, Taehyung turning towards him with a piercing glare to silence him.
"That's not true, I do pay attention!" He didn't.
"Well, he's one of a kind, to say the least. I heard some stuff about him from other uni students who get taught by him. There's a possibility of him believing in paranormality. Or supernaturality. Apparently, he started talking about witches and vampires when they asked him about the ancient catacombs in Paris. He said they were actually built specifically for those creatures and they were either kept alive until they eventually died of hunger or burned at stake and their bodies were hidden and stacked up and in there, until they eventually decomposed. His students found it so creepy, they couldn't tell if he's serious or not," Namjoon spoke. Taehyung furrowed his eyebrows.
The catacombs in Paris? How did he know about that one, creepy much?
"Woah...," he just whispered.
"Oh yeah, I think he believes in witchcraft, too. There was this time before you transfered, TaeTae, he said something strange. Something like 'There's no punishment more severe than an angry witch, make her angry and she'll put you through the most painful hellfire you'll have ever felt'. Well, he definetely scared the crap out of us, that's for sure. Sketchy, if you ask me," Jimin remembered. And Taehyung's jaw dropped, there was no way this guy was normal.
"Kind of creepy...," he mumbled.
"Yeah, and that's not all. There was another thing, Yuju fell asleep on her desk once and she woke up to him scolding her. She excused herself saying she felt drained of energy and he responded with: "The only time a student of mine is excused for falling asleep will be if they've gotten their blood sucked by a vampire". I mean, I can tell he was joking. But there's something about the way he says it, as if he means it. Creepy," the blonde added. The vampire was starting to feel sick.
He knows.
"Mr. Kim is actually a distant cousin of mine," Jungkook spoke casually, letting out a chuckle when he saw the utter shock written on the redhead's ghastly face.
Wh-Wha--
"We're not close or anything, but my parents used to visit his house a lot. The only thing I can remember from it are those weird guns stacked up in his living room, he had loads of those. I've always asked myself how they got there, since they're illegal in Korea. I'm not offended if you guys wanna call him weird, by the way. 'Cause he really is." The vampire's jaw dropped.
So the two most suspicious people at this school were related to each other. Why was he not surprised?
He was starting to get desperate for Mina's still ongoing background check on Jungkook. Though for some reason, a small part of him wanted him to be nothing more than a normal, mortal human being with simple curiosity rather than a threat. He did not want to fight him. And he wouldn't have to, right?
"Thank for the info, guys. That's crazy, by the way, I wouldn't never thought he were a... believer," Taehyung simply thanked them, looking over to Jimin who would be asking the next question.
"TaeTae, how old are you?," the blonde with a gigantic blue unicorn head covering half of his face then asked, the redhead blinking at that question. He did not expect this.
"Uhh... Twenty-one," he then lied, hoping it was a believable age for an university freshman. Well, technically it was not all a lie. He'd been twenty-one when he was turned into a vampire, after all. Jimin's mouth formed an 'O' which led Taehyung to believe that he had, once again, screwed up.
"So you're older than all of us, we're all twenty! Except Jungkook, he's only nineteen. He's actually the youngest, which is kinda unbelievable 'cause he looks so big and scary sometimes, amirite? But he's just a lil' fluffball on the inside. Anyways, did you take a sabbatical? A gap year? Both?," the noodlehead rambled curiously, leaving Jungkook, who did not appreciate being called a 'lil' fluffball', glaring and Taehyung in utter confusion.
What the fuck's a sabbatical? When I was young, this kind of bullcrap didn't even exist!
"Umm... I studied abroad for a year, in America. I told you that before. Yeah, then I repeated the same year in Australia. And then, I came back here. My parents really liked traveling overseas," he spoke, Jimin's eyes wide as saucers.
"Wow, that's so cool! You must be rich! And I bet your English is perfect," he swooned, the redhead laughing nervously because that simply was not true. "Oh no, it really isn't. No idea how I made it there." Much to his luck, Jimin did not object any further.
The night continued like that: The four of them sitting on the living room floor on soft cushions with their legs criss-crossed, eating pieces of fresh fruit every now and then and asking each other all sorts of questions that ranged from casual to extremely uncomfortable and embarrassing.
Highlight of the round was Jungkook being dared to ask Taehyung a question and since he felt particularly shameless that night, he went ahead and bluntly asked the redhead if he was a virgin, which the latter responded to with a very elegent 'No'. He'd been stuck at age twenty-one for three centuries straight after all. And of course, Jimin had to really bite his tongue to repress his urge to ask his newest friend about all the details...
Taehyung learned many things that night: Jimin had never been in a relationship for more than three weeks (why was he not surprised?), Namjoon's grades in high school had never slipped below an A minus (again, he was not surprised...) and Jungkook's most regrettable experience was spending his paternal grandmother's eightieth birthday party hiding away from everyone and playing Pokémon Go (whatever in the hell that was.) She had died two weeks after.
Luckily, he wasn't asked all too many questions since making up stories that were only halfway true did make him extremely anxious.
But all in all, he had to admit that this night wasn't as bad as he thought. The people he was forced to hang out with actually could be pretty nice. They let him experience things he never knew he would, and maybe he was a tad grateful for that. Were they perhaps... growing on him?
No. It couldn't be.
Eventually, it was late night and Jimin started complaining about needing his beauty sleep, so they set up their sleeping bags with lots and lots of colourful pillows that the Parks somehow happened to have inside their apartment. And while Namjoon was peacefully snoring, Jimin was curled up into a little ball and Jungkook had half of his face covered with headphones that had slipped onto his face, the vampire couldn't fall asleep.
Harsh surfaces like the Parks' wooden floor made him uncomfortable plus the temperature was too low as drowsiness was something he could only reach with higher temperature, strangely enough. But since vampires hardly ever needed sleep anyways, it wasn't that big of a deal.
So he just sat up with a sigh, grabbing a rose-coloured pillow and walking towards the balcony. Luckily, the door wasn't too loud when he opened it, cool air brushing his cheeks as soon as he stepped outside. Pulling the unicorn hood over his face and gripping his pillow tighter, he made his way towards the railing and swung himself on top of it. And no, he was definetely not worried about falling off the eleventh floor.
Another starry night, the beautiful crescent moon illuminating the whole sky like a huge, bright lamp. It was as if he was looking at a piece of dark and glittery fabric, spread out among the still busy streets of Anyang and Gwangmyeong. A little smile made its way onto his face, his feet slightly swinging and the little human emotion he had still left inside him spreading throughout him like a blooming flower in timelapse. He did love night skies.
But all of a sudden, the door opened again.
"What the fuck, are you crazy? You're gonna fall! You have a suicide wish or something?"
Abruptly, Taehyung turned his head around in surprise but visibly calmed down when he saw the figure standing by the balcony door now stepping towards him.
"Calm down, Jeon. I didn't come here to die and I can take care of myself, I just like looking at night skies," he answered dismissively, hugging his pillow.
I could literally jump down the Empire State Building and wouldn't break a single bone. I've tried before, it's like bungee jumping. Kinda fun, actually. Heights like these can be scary, though.
Jungkook was not impressed, however. Shaking his head in disbelief, he walked up to the redhead still sitting on the railing and grabbed him under his armpits, lifting him up as if he weighed nothing with a click of his tongue.
"Nope, nope. You're not doing this. I can't have you accidentally dying and Jimin's apartment turning into a crime scene."
"Let me down, asshole!," the vampire screeched and tried to pry him off, the ravenette obviously not complying and pulling him onto the ground. Taehyung glared at him angrily but with the pink, fluffy unicorn onesie covering up his entire body, he did not look particularly intimidating. The younger had to laugh.
"What are you doing out here, anyways? It's late." The unicorn-clad male shrugged, biting his lower lip unconsciously. "I dunno, I couldn't sleep. And I wanted to see the stars. Plus, Namjoon keeps snoring, it bothers my ears." Jungkook nodded lightly, watching the flaring anger inside his orbs diminish.
"Do you happen to have a crush on Namjoon?"
The ravenette's question was abrupt and sudden, Taehyung's entire brain shutting down for a brief moment as he had not expected that.
"Uh...." He halted. "Okay, he may be kinda cute. But just because he's visually appealing to me doesn't mean it's a crush. I've lived long enough to tell the difference."
"Jeez. You're, like, one year older and you talk as if you're some sort of stone-old creature...," the younger chuckled. If only he knew.
"But, well, I saw the way you kept smiling at him. You're not really subtle, not gonna lie."
The redhead almost blushed. "Wasn't trying to be," he mumbled. "But what's it to you?"
The younger looked slightly startled.
"Nothing, just saying."
All of a sudden, the vampire remembered something. "Oh my god, didn't you say you once had a crush on Jimin? Do you still have one?" Jungkook visibly tensed at that, his eyes widening.
"Jesus Christ, no. That was just a short and meaningless thing, I just thought he looked cute, the red hair suited him. But it wasn't anything serious, just middle school. He's actually not my type at all, he's so hyper and... ebullient, as a friend I appreciate that but as a boyfriend, it'd drive me crazy. I like calm people, not necessarily shy but calm people. People that can be sassy, confident and playful but not overly obnoxious and self-centered. Or maybe I'm just too picky." He shut his mouth, feeling like he said too much.
But Taehyung nodded, actually having listened to his whole rant. "I know what you mean. No offense, but you two would make a horrible couple. And you're not picky. I remember, I once turned down a guy because he breathed so loudly, it bothered me. And another one because he blinked too often." Jungkook laughed again, already having expected something like that. Judging by the redhead's taste of clothing and accessories, he could already tell that impressing him would be a difficult thing to achieve. Not that he cared about that, though.
The night was calm, along with the still busy car engines quietly running you could also hear the faint sound of crickets' chirps, despite being on the eleventh floor. Neither of the two could comprehend what it was that made them so oddly comfortable with each other all of a sudden, but neither questioned it too much. In this case, they actually kind of enjoyed each other's presence and conversing with one another. And they had to say, they got used to each other.
"Please don't tell Jimin or Namjoon I used to like him in middle school. They're gonna bully me for the rest of my life, can't believe I accidentally told you," the ravenette spoke after a while. Taehyung tore his gaze off the still beautiful night sky and coincidentally looked into the younger's orbs for a second, feeling a little something jolt through him when he saw all the stars glittering inside them, beautifully and calmly. He didn't only have a thing for night skies, he also happened to have a thing for beautifully twinkling eyes. Somehow, they brought him comfort.
He then grinned cheekily. "We'll see about that."
With a playfully annoyed glare, Jungkook pinched his unicorn hood and yawned, feeling himself get drowsy once again.
"We should go back inside, it's late. By the way, don't sit on balcony railings in the future. It's dangerous."
With that final statement, he opened the balcony door again and after letting the vampire enter first, polite as he was, entered the apartment himself and laid himself back in his sleeping bag with his headphones on, feeling slight tingles somewhere in his stomach area as he listened to the calming beats of a slow, cheesy love song of which the lyrics coincidentally happened to include starry night skies.
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
(A/N: hi uwuwu idk if a song like that actually exists because my knowledge on pop music is not very big, as an enthusiastic kpop listener and classical musician (i probably know an abundance more about classical music than western pop music shdjsjsj i'm sorry)
