Chapter 2: The Vampire Festival

It had been almost four hours on the road driving to Louisiana but eventually they made it to their destination of Petit Chauve Sourie Ville. It looked like any other small town in America with a few buildings beside each other and other things. Velma drove the van into the town while talking with Fred. Fred turned his head and freaked out when he saw what looked like a teenage boy walk into the road. Velma immediately slammed on the brakes to avoid running him over. The boy fell and at first the gang thought they had hurt him but he got back up. Shaggy and Scooby Doo freaked out a bit upon seeing he was dressed like a vampire.

"Watch it I'm walking here" the boy said before walking off to wherever he was going.

"He should know better than to walk into a road when there is a vehicle coming" Madelaine said with a slightly annoyed tone.

"Maybe he didn't see us until now" Daphne said.

"Did his parents not teach him to look both ways before crossing the road?" Madelaine said with a raised eyebrow.

"Come on, let's go look around" Fred suggested before opening the passenger door and stepping out of the van.

The others all got out as well. Madelaine had to shield her eyes from the bright sunlight when she got out. Due to where their village was located they didn't see sunlight very often because it always snowed.

"You alright Madelaine?" Velma asked, looking at the brunette.

"Oh yes" Madelaine said as she turned to look at her. "Unfortunately where me and Dianna are from you do not see sunlight very often" Madelaine explained.

"How come?" Velma asked.

"It snows constantly, making the sky a dark grayish color," Madelaine explained.

"I see," Velma said.

The group walked around for a bit before one of them spotted something up ahead. Once they got closer they could see it was a festival, however it wasn't an ordinary festival but instead it was a vampire festival. Once Madelaine saw the word vampire she immediately scoffed feeling very offended.

"Is that what humans refer to me and my family as vampires?" Madelaine said as she did her best to contain her rage.

"Well you do drink blood" Annalise said looking at her.

"Because of a blood disease," Madelaine said looking at the doll. "We also eat human flesh as well," Madelaine stated.

"Well you won't be able to do that while we are here unless you want to risk getting caught" Annalise said.

"I know that, which is why I came prepared," Madelaine said.

Madelaine had packed some vials of blood into her luggage so that way she wouldn't become ill. There was enough to last a couple of days since she was hopeful it wouldn't take them very long to get their intended target. Madelaine was confident though it would only be a few days as they had to make sure everything was set.

They walked with the others to the vampire festival before spotting two men standing outside the gate. One was rather large and wore a white suit. The other had a sign around him and held a clipboard in hand. The man in white was holding a megaphone and warning people who passed by not to go inside. Scooby and Shaggy signed the paper that was on the clipboard before Fred came by holding some corndogs.

"Stay away or your souls will be condemned" the man in white said as he looked at the two romanian girls.

"Save your nonsense for someone who actually wants it" Madelaine said in a cold tone as her piercing green eyes glared down at the man.

The man could not help but feel a bit small under her gaze. Of course Madelaine normally had that effect on people. Being six feet tall had its advantages of course. Madelaine walked by him with a smirk on her face. It always made her feel powerful whenever man things shrunk under her stare like that. Just like her aunt Alcina she liked knowing people feared her because they knew she wouldn't hesitate to kill them if they did anything that would displease her. And Madelaine had very special methods of dealing with people who displeased her. The girls went up to the gate where a woman was standing. The woman had short blonde hair, green eyes and wore this old fashioned looking outfit. She also held a stamp in her hand. Her name was Lita Rutland and she was the owner of the festival.

The girls held their wrists out which Lita stamped. The girls looked and saw they were in the shape of bite marks. Before Madelaine could get angry again Dianna brought her friend into the festival where the others were.

Madelaine's eyes scanned over the festival taking notice of the various booths set up. She also noticed the other people who were walking around as they were dressed in vampire attire as well. If her family saw this they would be very offended.

"You must be used to seeing this back home," Fred said.

"Not exactly," Madelaine said.

"Isn't Romania known for vampires?" Fred said.

"I suppose but me and Dianna wouldn't know" Madelaine said.

"How, when you are from there?" Fred said curiously.

"Our home is in a remote area," Madelaine said.

"Oh" Fred said.

"Let's just say if my family was here they would be very offended especially since our bloodline has lived there for centuries" Madelaine said.

"I can understand that," Fred said respectfully.

As they looked around Velma let out a gasp. Sitting at a nearby table was her favorite author Vincent Van Helsing. Vincent was known for his many vampire novels which Velma had read almost all of them. It looked like he was trying to sell some of his newest books. The gang went over and Vincent immediately recognized them.

"Ah the famous mystery Inc gang," Vincent said. He had heard about them due to all the mysteries they had solved over the years.

"It's such an honor to meet you Mr Van Hesling. I am a big fan of yours" Velma said.

"It's nice to see someone who enjoys my books," Vincent said.

The gang talked with Vincent and learned that his newest book wasn't doing so well. People didn't seem interested in him anymore which Velma was surprised by. His books seemed to have done so well in the past.

"People's interests do change overtime" Madelaine said.

"Indeed they do" Vincent said. "And you are?" Vincent said.

"Madelaine Dimitrescu" Madelaine introduced herself.

"Ah a Romanian born I see" Vincent said.

"What gave it away?" Madelaine said.

"Yours is one of the oldest ones I've heard of," Vincent said.

"And one of the most difficult ones people seem to have pronouncing," Madelaine said.

"It happens with all foreign names," Vincent said with a chuckle.

Dianna nodded her head in agreement with her friend.

"This is Dianna Beneviento," Madelaine said.

"A pleasure to meet such interesting young ladies," Vincent said politely.

Dianna smiled a tiny bit. The villagers back home used to avoid her whenever she did have to go outside her house. She'd often get looked at by others which made her even more insecure about herself. So hearing someone say they were interesting was a nice change for once.

Vincent told them about his vampire museum and invited the gang to see which they agreed to. The gang followed him to this old style building. There were some very interesting things on display such as wooden stakes that were used to kill vampires. There was also a special looking crown and necklace which belonged to the vampire queen. Madelaine looked at it. It did look pretty though certainly not something she'd ever wear.

Vincent then showed them his newest addition. He pulled the curtains up which revealed a fancy looking coffin. But that's not what caught their attention rather what was inside. It looked like a real life vampire. Vincent said the vampire was none other than Lord Valdronya the vampire king. This had the gang surprised. Shaggy and Scooby Doo got closer to it so they could get a better look at it. Shaggy looked at it and watched as the eyes glowed a bit which had them running behind the rest of the gang.

"Are they always this easily frightened?" Madelaine asked.

"All the time" Velma said as she was used to it.

"Well that is embarrassing" Madelaine couldn't help but think.

Vincent offered to let them stay in his home while they were in town. At first they were hesitant since they didn't want to be a bother but Vincent insisted and they eventually agreed. Vincent brought them to his home and showed them to their rooms. Dianna and Madelaine of course were paired next to each other. They went inside of their rooms and unpacked their clothes and put everything away. Madelaine kept the blood vials in her luggage so the others wouldn't see. Once she finished she went over and looked out the window. She wondered how her family was doing. Madelaine was sure her cousins were deeply missing her and hoping she would be back soon. Her aunt was also probably worrying about her as well.

Madelaine's mother Milady was Alcina's twin sister. Unlike Alcina though she did not inherit the blood disease however, Madelaine did. When Madelaine was only eight years old, tragedy befell her. Her mother was murdered and she had been the one to find her mother's lifeless body. The people responsible were never caught and the incident was deemed a cold case. Alcina upon learning about what happened to her sister immediately took her niece in. The family was angry that justice had not been given and it caused Madelaine to develop a deep hatred for humans because they not only took her mother from her but failed to catch her killers. Ironic that she would grow up to be a vicious killer herself. However even after so many years Madelaine still could not forget what happened.

Madelaine signed before going to check on her friend. She turned off the light before leaving the room. Madelaine hoped that they would not be here long as she was already feeling homesick. She prayed to Mother Miranda that everything would go accordingly.
