Detective Rita Veder, played by Angela Bassett is the female lead in Vampire In Brooklyn. Rita is haunted by her nightmares and fears that she is going crazy like her mother who died in an insane asylum. The plot of the movie centers around the last surviving vampire from the Caribbean island who arrives in New York in search of a dhampir (an offspring of a vampire and a human). The Maximilian initiates a series of sinister methods to pull the dhampir Rita into becoming his mate. I enjoyed Angela Bassett's character Rita because she is half human and Vampire. She struggles with choosing if she wants to stay human or become one with Maximillian in becoming a full vampire.
