9. Different paths

Legolas turned when he heard the human jump after, and turned to face him. He signed and walked up to the man, pushing him against the wall roughly and grasping his throat.

"When are you gonna understand? I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOU. I feel nothing."

His grasp loosened a little, as if he doubted.
"I remember how I used to feel about you, and it was painful. I don't want that again."

Aragorn tried to claw at Legolas hands, and eventually the vampire backed a few steps. Aragorn took a few a few breaths before he faced Legolas again, who now stood further away.

"You will never have to go through that again. I didn't knew how you felt, now I do. I love you...Legolas."

Legolas looked at him with a weird look. It contained curiosity, but also doubt. But he looked more relaxed.

"I have a perfect life." Legolas said and crossed his arms.

"I am free."

"I know." Aragorn said, choosing his words carefully.
"And I won't take that away from you. I just want you to know that I love you."

Legolas frowned a little, but didn't move from the spot. His mind was spinning. He wanted to feel, but then he remembered the pain, and then he don't want to feel anymore.
'Aragorn mean it.' One part of his mind said, but the other one screamed 'He's lying. He wants you vulnerable.' 'No, it's Aragorn. He wouldn't lie.'

Legolas frowned deeper and Aragorn's instincts told him to run, but he didn't.

"Feel something Legolas, anything."

Legolas tried to, but he wouldn't let his walls fall.

Aragorn wanted to scare him to feel again, and sighed.
"If you don't you're gonna lose me forever."

Legolas looked straight at him, and Aragorn felt like he shrunk under the intense gaze.

"I love you, and I promise you'll never have to get through that pain again."

Legolas slowly, and doubting, reached out his left hand. Aragorn smiled relieved and reached out his right, but before they could touch Aragorn felt two fangs pierce the skin on his neck. He heard a scream saying 'stop' before everything went black.

"Don't hurt him!" Legolas exclaimed and tried to reach the man. The vampire turned around, blood covering his mouth and chin. He let the body drop to the ground, unmoving.

"I've heard enough. Why do you care so much about him? Didn't I take your emotions away?"

"I don't feel for him, but you have had your fun. Leave him alone." Legolas tried to act like he didn't care, and like he didn't look at the limp body, and it was hard.

"Looks like your emotions are back...love can do lots of things can't it? Well..I'll leave him on one condition." The vampire said casually and wiped his chin.

As Legolas nodded, he smirked.

"You'll let me feed on the queen instead. Then I'll turn your emotions off again."

Aragorn groaned and opened his eyes. He lay in the forest, in the shadow of a tree. As he opened his eyes colours were spinning, until he could finally focus on the crown of a big tree. He slowly sat up and rubbed his neck, and gasped as his fingers were coated in blood.

"You are alright." He heard a small voice, and noticed Legolas sat behind him, leaning against the tree. He looked small, almost ashamed.

"I fed you my blood. You are healing."

Aragorn stared at him, and smiled a small smile. Legolas cared enough to save his life, and even enough to sit by him in the shadow in the middle of the day.

"Thank you."

Legolas nodded and looked away, trying to dodge Aragorn's gaze.

Noticing, the man scooted over to the vampire who was his friend. Legolas looked like he wanted to move away, but he didn't.

"Your emotions are back."

"And I don't like it. One moment of weakness, and everything is back. The wall I had built up fell apart."

Aragorn was a bit taken aback. He has not expected Legolas to actually say anything.

"What pains you?" He finally ask, and Legolas eyes darken.

"My love for you." He whispered and stared into Aragorn's eyes, pain showing too clearly.
The man saw the pain in the blue eyes, and reached to take his hands gently.

"I love you too, and it will work out."

"It won't." Legolas said and unexpectedly stood from the ground, looking down at Aragorn.

"No one will accept it."

Aragorn rose after him, and cradled Legolas cheek gently. The vampire looked like he wanted to move, but once again, he didn't.

"Then let us run away."

Legolas stared into the kind grey eyes, before he looked down. Knowing that Legolas won't say anything, Aragorn continued talking.

"We can live in the woods, you can turn me so I don't need food anymore and we can.."

Legolas looked up in shock.

"No!" He said quickly.
"I won't turn you. Ever."

"Please." Aragorn said and stroked Legolas cheekbone. Legolas tensed at the man's pleading.

"I want to be with you forever."

"But you don't want to be a vampire. It's a curse."

"Not if I'm with you."

Legolas looked into Aragorn's eyes, before he rose a hand to gently comb his hair, leaning his elbow on his shoulder.

"I know you love me..but..I need to live the life a vampire is meant to live. This is foolish.."

When Aragorn began to tear up, Legolas lay his hand on his arm steady, trying to add some comfort.

"You need to leave me..."

Aragorn shook his head, making a tear escape and roll down his cheek.
Rising a hand to wipe it away, Legolas looked into his eyes once more. How he wanted to take Aragorn's pain away. Then a thought hit him.
He could.

He looked into Aragorn's eyes, and concentrated. When he felt control, he began to talk calmly.

"You'll go home to The White city. You'll life happily your whole life..." He choked on a sob as he remembered Arwén won't make it out of this alive, and forged it back his throat.

"You'll forget about me."

Aragorn's pupils shrunk, and Legolas stroked his beard lovingly. He leaned forward and captured his lips in a loving kiss. Aragorn didn't move because of the compelling.

Legolas leaned back, and smiled sadly, tears now streaming down his face.

"Goodbye Aragorn. I'll always remember you. I'll always love you.."

The man blinked, and Legolas was gone.
Looking down, the man opened his fist to revile a small purple flower.

Vervain.

Legolas must have put it there to make sure he remembered it. Maybe he just said it so the other vampire thought that he had sent him away. Maybe he still has hope.

Looking at the direction Legolas ran off, Aragorn let his tears fall free again.

He wasn't compelled because of the vervain, and he heard and remembered every word that came out of Legolas mouth. They hurt his heart, and he raised a hand to press against his chest.

"Legolas!" He called, but got no answer. He knew he could hear him.
"Please! Come back!"

But he doesn't answer. He was not coming back.
So Aragorn did the only thing he could think of, he went back. He would get back, show everyone he was alright, and then he would figure out a plan.
